Walked in to a friendly hostess and was seated rather quickly. Had a homey feel with wait staff bustling around delivering fresh chicken and veggies to various tables. After we were seated Nathan greeted us and explained the menu, and returned with our drinks and big bowl of Salad w/Italian dressing and homemade biscuits. The salad was fresh/crisp and the biscuits w/honey, oh my melt in your mouth goodness! I ordered the catfish. Oh so light and crisp coating of cornmeal and fried to perfection. My husband got the chicken fried steak. Nice light coating and fork tender to cut. Topped with the creamy white gravy made it so good:) All the veggies, salad and biscuits you can eat with a protein of choice (5 to choose from), makes a great, fairly inexpensive night out This is a nice family friendly place and worth a trip! The mediocre: obviously the business model is generous with sides but it's clear most of them are canned/not made from scratch. Creamed corn was pretty runny but still one of the tastier options. Green beans were quite mushy, and the beans were super watery as well. Conversely the mashed potatoes were SUPER thick and therefore hard to eat a lot of, even when mixed with the gravy. Others mentioned that the fried chicken was pretty salty. My husband was able to finish off the chicken fried steak I had leftover when I brought it home, which was nice. $25-ish after tax and tip to feed two adults is pretty good in this economy.

I tried this restaurant after waiting anxiously for them to open. I arrived and gave my order in the drive thru and things went flawlessly. The order was right, food was great and service was quick. At the window the girl told me that they had sent people from California to get the store up and running. I really enjoyed the meal! The second time it took several tries for the person to get my drive thru order correct due to the traffic noise. Come to find out, the corporate people had left and returned home. Oh my! What a difference. Why they would put the speaker next to a busy intersection instead of the side of the building where there is nothing is beyond me. Finally she got it right and after I got home I found that there were no tortillas even though I had paid for two orders. The third visit was no better. I had to repeat my order to the employee several times again. Not because of traffic, but because she was simply not very bright. I asked for a two piece chicken combo with white meat, mashed potatoes and cole slaw. Had hard is that? I ended up having to give it to her one step at a time. What is wrong with this generation these days? They are just not very smart. She finally repeated it to me. I should have learned the first time and checked my bag before I left the window. The chicken breast had NO skin at all, and we all know that is where the flavor is. The Diet Coke was 100% flat! It tasted like it was poured the day before and left sitting out. I see no reason to give them a third try and am very disappointed in this store. I had high hopes, but won't be giving them another chance. Well after deciding to give them yet another chance, I went again. They are suppose to open at 10:30am. I went at 11:00am and found that they were not open at all. Their reason for not being open was "Sorry for your inconvenience". No real problem, but apparently they just didn't climb out of bed in time. I went to KFC, who opens at 10:00 and they were happy to sell me all of the chicken and sides that I wanted with no problem. Goodbye El Pollo Loco!
