The ingredients are fresh and the grilled chickens you see being cooked behind the counter are seasoned well. Service is good. On my last visit I had the avocado chicken taco and chipotle burrito. My son and daughter had the three-piece chicken with two sides. Their sides were macaroni and cheese and broccoli. My daughter also ordered a taco that through the app it was requested not to put the sauce on there, which they did, which she did not like and overpowered the taco as well as make the tortilla soggy. The vegetables had no seasoning. The macaroni and cheese, according to them was worse than the box stuff from Kraft. I had the cheesy chicken and rice bowl, which was average at best. I also had the shredded chicken taco, that was probably the best thing outside of the salsa itself. Five, and the shredded chicken taco a three. My wife had the shredded beef stuffed quesadilla as well as the avocado chicken taco. Both were average. I like the thickness of the chips, however the flavor was non-existent. I had high hopes for the new items that were on the menu, but was let down. Don't think I'll get the family to try this again. Not sure about me. read more

The food is always delicious this was my second time eating here and the service was not as great this time around. We received order in the drive thru and as soon as I grabbed the order she said "did we forget something?" I felt as if we were being rushed to pull off when she said that and lo and behold they forgot my salad order. Had to go in store and as I was letting the young man at register know that they forgot my salad in a nice way, they yelled from back we making it! Like it startled me and as I walked out the door someone made a remark and I heard snickering. Not cool at all. Terrible service. I pulled through the drivethru and place an order for one chicken salad. She just took my car, charged it, gave it back and said park on the side and wait for the order. I parked on the side and it took 15 minutes for the order! Nobody pulled through the drivethru in the time span I spent parked waiting for the order. She had terrible attitude. Went to the drive thru a couple times now and the ordering process, speed and food have been great. Very tasty food and I like how new this place looks. In CA they always kinda look run down. This California-style Mexican grilled chicken chain has arrived in Richardson, replacing a shabby 1980s Chevron station. When we lived in LA, we went to El Pollo Loco frequently. In 20 years the chain has really changed - and we are not sure for be better. It used to be a straight grilled chicken place with a very limited and straightforward menu - chicken on the bone or chicken in tacos, with delicious red salsa cruda, rice and beans. Easy peasy. Today's EPL has an expanded menu with a lot more choices, and some fusion items. Chicken mango tacos? Nah, thanks though. It all looks like they are borrowing ideas from other concepts to reinvent themselves. There are build-a-bowls a la Chipotle, and a fresh salsa bar a la Moe's Southwestern Grille. Not sure how we feel about that - we loved EPL when it was itself. I avoided the new items in favor of my old EPL fave: grilled chicken and charro beans. That was just as awesome as we remembered. The charro beans are delicious, and I got broccoli instead of rice (which I always thought was blah). But the star of the plate was the chicken - crispy skin, moist and tender meat, and a lively spice rub that took us straight back to LA :) The chicken build a bowl was good and reasonably healthy, with rice, charro beans, chicken and avocado (additional charge). We also liked the new fresh salsa bar, even though the red salsa we remembered has been reformulated into a cooked salsa :(. The green avocado salsa was okay, but needed salt. El Pollo Regio's is MUCH better. Pico de gallo was fresh and added a nice zing to our meal. The only issue we had was getting to the restaurant - the access is difficult at a very busy intersection, and we did not like that we had to cross the drive-through lane to enter the restaurant. It looks like maybe EPL was shoehorned into a strangely-laid out parcel, and so we will probably not come here as often as we went to EPL in LA. 4 stars read more

This location is new to the other ones and hopefully they all work for the same company brand ! I'm so happy they are expanding their brand into different cities. A native from Mexico and going to Los Angeles and then Arizona knowing they have el Pollo loco in all the locations is just amazing . The staff here is amazing they answered all my questions and even the manager today see how my food was . Sure enough the is manager from another location which I visit also.
