I really like El Pollo Loco as a go-to option when I'm on the road or don't feel like cooking. It feels like a healthier fast-food choice, and I usually have a great experience here. The chicken is hot, the sides are fresh, and everything tastes solid. The girl at the counter was really nice, friendly, and professional. There was also a coupon available, which was a nice bonus. I ordered a full chicken specifically because I wanted two chicken breasts. When I got home, I noticed there was only one breast and three thighs instead. It's not a huge deal, and I'll still come back, but when you order a full chicken, especially at that price, it's nice to get exactly what you asked for. We've driven by this place so many times and finally decided to give it a try. The app wasn't working for us, so we ended up having to go inside to order and figure out the menu. I almost deducted a star for the app experience, but that wasn't on this location, so I decided not to. Once we were inside, the manager was really kind in ensuring the app offer worked and our order was correct. We both got pollo bowls with modifications and the bowls came out hot, well seasoned and correct. The amount of food is less than say a chipotle bowl, but I preferred that as it was more than enough without being overwhelming. The pico was fresh and flavorful and the chicken was juicy and well seasoned. The food came out quickly and the restaurant was clean. Can't believe I've lived in Tucson for 13 years and never been here. I was nearby having my windshield replaced and grabbed lunch while I waited. Nice menu with lots of healthy choices. I opted for the 3 pc chicken (dark meat). It was ready super-quick, under 1 minute! Absolutely delicious! The flavor was good, chicken was just a little dry for dark meat, skin reasonably crispy (not as crispy as KFC), the salad was nice and the beans were exceptional with a little kick to them. But, the thing that really set EPL apart from others is the side dishes and condiments. The pinto beans are always flavorful, The Cole slaw perfection. The rice is exactly perfect every time. And the pico is fresh and well balanced. After having spent the past three years on the East Coast and Florida, I've tried every kind of competitor and none of them even come close. And as I assembled me hand made burritos with grilled chicken, pinto beans. Cole slaw and pico de gallo a ritual I've been doing for nearly 40 years now, even with all the buildup in my mind, every bite delivered that familiar pop of flavors that I crave anytime I'm away from the west coast! I feel it necessary to re visit my review of this restaurant. Previously I rated El Pollo Loco 5 stars. I stopped in for a quick bite to eat after the gym around 7 pm. Not really late but and still early enough that they should have been paying closer attention to detail. Still the same slow response to getting the food out, which is ok since the food up until this evening had been exceptional. I ordered the usual 2 avacado burritos, and added a deluxe chicken soup. Half way through the first burrito I had to spit the food out 5 times due to chicken bones. This is a very serious problem as a digested bone can cause serious health problems. Due to this I never picked up my second burrito. I switched to the deluxe chicken soup, which at first was very tastey with large chunks of chicken, canbage and other veggies. Half way through a "large" bowl I bit into a large chunk of boils fatty skin. This is another complete turn off. It will be a long while before I go back, I will monitor the reviews and see what others have to say before I dexide if they are worth another shot. This review was for today's visit at 11:00 AM on a Monday. You'd figure that lunch is about to start so the food should be pretty good and fresh, right? Not so. The chicken was burnt and shriveled. Our order was two-2 piece combos, one white, one dark. Mine was dark. The pieces are an absolute joke, yes, picture included. Thigh, especially, was so dry, it does not count as a full piece. Beans and rice, neither had any flavor, rice dried out. NOT at all worth what we paid. We were asked if we wanted plastic ware, yes, we wanted it, but did not get that or napkins. Good thing we took it home. Also ordered churros. Had I not asked where they were, I would not have gotten them. Employees that pay attention would be great, from overcooked and dried out chicken (it's literally in the name), to bland, dried out sides, to giving the customer what they ordered AND paid for. (5/24/2020) Im passing through Tucson today from California ordered through the el pollo loco app for delivery. As I said I am from out of town and was staying in a local hotel today May 24th 2020. At approximately 7:00 this evening I ordered a 12 piece meal with three sides avacado salsa, plates and utensils as well as a large loco salad with extra cilantro lime dressing. Upon reciving my order I had no plates, no salsa of any sort and a completely dry bowl of lettuce with no dressing on the side or on the salad. I called the store and a female answered who said she apologized and would make a note on my "account". I told her Im from out of state passing through so that wouldn't work. She than said let me put you on hold and check with my manager. After 7 min on hold we got disconnected. I attempted to call back 55 times in 17 min to nothing but a busy signal. When i did get back through the same woman answered the phone and when i told her my problem and told her i had previously called she stated that she had attempted to call me back and didnt know why we had been disconnected. I found this amazing because at no point did she get my name or my phone number or even my order. That being said she said they were to busy to send someone to correct my order but i was free to come pick up what I was missing myself. Again I explained to her im from out of town and the reason I ordered delivery is because I had no way to get to the store myself. She than continued to tell me well you could have someone come get it for you and I told her thats what I already paid for was for someone to deliver it to me. I asked her if there was a way to at least get a partial refund for my order since my salad was just a bowl of lettuce had no salsa and I had no way to eat any of it without plates or utensils being i was in a hotel.She than asked how I had ordered. I told her through the El Pollo Loco app. She proceeded to tell me well they were to busy to send anyone out to correct my order and there was no manager available to speak with to refund me any part. The only thing she could recommend was messaging through the app and hope someone got back to me. Never have I been treated with such rude customer service and just blatantly disrespected and disregard. To have someone tell me basically come get it yourself or we cant help you is just rude and not a way to keep a customer. This review is for this location only. I use to go to El Pollo Loco about 4 times a week. I moved to Marana and this is the closet location. Rude employees and 2 very bad experiences. They also make their own rules about what they can and can't do. For example, I always order a certain burrito and make it a combo and sub the chips for a salad. It's a dollar more but that is understandable. Now all of a sudden at this location only "they can't do that". It's fine, I won't be back and have actually found some better alternatives near by. They have niceties like fresh sliced limes, avocado available as an add on if it's not included with your dish and a fresh salsa bar. The service is good. The premises are clean. The cashiers take and check orders and the manager is right in there pitching in. There's also a $5 menu which includes a drink with the meal. El Pollo Loco's is delicious, though very inconsistent; this is why I only awarded three stars. The first time I got it, there was so much hominy and chicken, it was awesome. The last time? It was mostly broth with a small handful of hominy, and maybe 10 small pieces of chicken, and it needed salt, lime juice, and green salsa to bring the flavor up. I suggest this place works on consistency. Also, this place has Mexican hot chocolate, which I love. Service can be spotty. I've always received the correct order, but the staff can be aloof and disoriented, and they can take quite a while on orders on occasion. Purchased my order. Waiting in line for my order, I noticed an elderly woman approach the counter. Her husband had ordered for her. She explained, but he ordered the wrong items. She ordered three of avocado tacos, but he ordered three different types of tacos for her. She just wanted to know if she could get the right order for her herself. She was under the assumption that her husband had placed the order for the right items. The gentleman behind the counter after for the tacos that she had purchased, and she gave them to him. He insisted that her husband had ordered the wrong item for her, but that they would make the right order for her. She stood their content waiting for her order for about 10 minutes, when the manager came up to her and told her she was going to have to pay the difference for the tacos. Now I'm not saying on a normal basis. This would not bother me, but this is obviously an elderly couple, who have a hard time hearing and speaking. That the manager would take Mercy and go ahead and just give her the tacos. What's $3? After all? The manager was quite rude to the woman and I had had enough and walked up and said I'll pay for the difference for the stranger because we do not treat our elderly this way. Bottom line. So I just drove there ten minutes ago, and the older lady in the drive-through and on the speaker was extremely nice. Best customer service I had anywhere and the food is bomb. Fed my family today after they helped me out with a major job at home and we picked up a Spicy Chipotle burrito for the son-in-law, a cheese quesadilla and guac for the littles to share and L & I split a 3 piece combo (2 breasts, a wing and two sides) which was more than enough for us. T devoured his burro and the kids loved their quesadilla but then again, what's not to love about a quesadilla. L & I chose the corn and pinto beans as our sides. Both were really good and the corn is lightly spiced. The littles split an order of churros and they were actually quite good (snuck a bite). I usually love El Pollo Loco but my experience after dealing with the "Friday Night" crew prompted me to write this review. I will start by saying the food is excellent, but customer service was NOT good. I ordered a meal for my son because it had all his faves, including avocado! When we received the order and I started feeding him, I realized there weren't any avos so I went to the front to tell them. A man working in the kitchen area said "Where did the avocados I already put on here go?" Basically accusing me of lying for a couple extra slices of avocado. He said it to another employee who smirked about the avocado conspiracy theory I was obviously trying to pull over on them.
