Chimichurri Steak and Picnic Chicken Tacos with side of guacamole.

Awesome food, great service and ambiance is very nice and clean. The food value was better than many places around the area. I got two tacos and a drink for $10 and added guacamole for $3 and the tacos were plentiful and loaded.

I ordered the brisket queso and that was delicious. The chips were perfectly salted as well. For the tacos I got the Mexicali shrimp which was good and fresh- and then the birria tacos which came as a pack of two. The only downside is that the meat and Birria broth weren't that spicy/flavorful.

Chicken Tiikka Masala Tacos super delicious, a little in the spicy side for me but I love them. Light crispy yummy Blue corn chips and queso a must! And my son is a fan of their Red Velvet cake. All to go...3x in 2 weeks! It's an obsession!

Love this place!! The tacos and the tots were absolutely amazing. They even had a kitty showing up the staff is super friendly and attentive, it was my first time trying velvet taco so the guy definitely steered me into the right spot. I've also tried the mexi-Cali shrimp bowl which was awesome. The outdoor patio is nice to sit at and they play awesome music which is a huge plus. Will definitely be back

Gourmet tacos yes please many to choose from. You can take some of the items off of each taco if you like, but there's so many to choose from and they're all very good.

Velvet taco! It's been years but glad I stopped by and came here for a margarita but ended up having the bowl meal for two! Steal!

    Horrible Margarita

My wife and I stopped here for dinner on a whim. It looked very nice from the outside. When we went inside, it was very cold, like a meat locker. We were surprised that is was not a sit down and order restaurant from the exterior appearance. The interior layout is very much like a fast food restaurant. My wife ordered a couple of tacos with a side of guacamole and chips and a margarita. I ordered a chicken tikka bowl. The presentation of the food was visually adequate but that's where it ends. My wife's tacos were not very good. her margarita came out of a box, it was horrible. Even the guacamole wasn't good. The chicken tikka bowl was very spicy, which is fine by me. However, the food was cold, and the tikka was very grainy and pasty. The girl who took her order, did it wrong and we were overcharged, when this was discovered the manager did take care of it and refunded my card the difference. I would say that the service was subpar and the food is very overpriced. When we were done with our food, which was so bad we couldn't finish it, we went to get a couple of refills on our drinks before we left, and the manager asked how everything was, so we let her know as diplomatically as we could, and she couldn't care less, she actually had a smirk on her face, she was very insincere in her reaction. Also, by the drink station, they have a painting of a woman eating red velvet cake, which is a little suggestive and a little inappropriate I feel for a family restaurant, if it was a bar no big deal but a place where people bring their kids to eat, I thought it was a bit much. Overall, not a good experience, we won't be back.

Never would I ever think I would like such a simple taco place. Literally pass by it every single day but never went inside because it just looks so simple and more like fast food such as Torchy's. But, wow! Saturday brunch over time and I decided to hop along and was not disappointed. I got their slow-roasted angus brisket and left wanting moreeee. I appreciated their background music too. Very chic and hip for a midday outing spot with friends! Unfortunately, I ate before my phone again (when I go out with my friends, I completely forget my photography side of me!!!!!!).

I've never experienced such disappointment with Velvet Taco until today. Food: Substandard and cold upon delivery! I was outdone, look at the picture as it speaks volumes! You're already paying more than the menu price by choice when delivered, not an issue, however; I have a few simple expectations that were not met. Presentation and quality are two that were not met today.

Really good and inventive tacos, every location of this chain that I've been to has been very solid. My one complaint is that they give you the tacos on this little stand, and then you sit at tables that have slats in them, so invariably your tacos drip out of the holder and through the table, so watch your knees. Pro tip: ask for a tray to put everything on, your khakis will appreciate it.

    1. Service - We only dealt with Amahia (the cashier) in the front, and she was friendly and nice. Her attitude makes a difference. Great job hiring her! 2. Price - $5 to $6 a taco. It's not Taco Bell prices, but it's worth it. 3. Ambiance - Modern dining area. Wood tables, stools, and chairs. There is an industrial style look. Great place to hang with friends or family. 4. Food - For Tacos, I recommend their SPICY TIKKA CHICKEN, and their SMASH BURGER. The smash burger is not a real burger, they just have burger ingredients in a taco. It tastes like a burger! One cool feature is that you can pre-order online and pickup at their drive-thru window. It's not a typical drive-thru where they take your order as you pull up. I agree with another reviewer that it is not a Torchy's Taco, but that's why I like it. The flavors are definitely not salty. Instead, you can taste the richness of all the individual ingredients. 5. Cleanliness - Dining area was clean. You also clean after yourself as you would at a fast food chain. Restrooms are a bit dated with old hardware. They can work on modernizing this area for a more pleasant experience for all their customers.

For anyone that grew up…read moreor previously lived in SoCal or Baja Mexico, this is a much provided relief from the usual tex-mex cuisine in the Houston area. I chose 3 specialty tacos, the Mar Y Tierra, Baja Shrimp and the Ensenada. I was hoping to find Baja style tacos as great as the ones I used to eat regularly in San Diego. So does this place live up to the hype? Mar y Tierra - the first taco I tried and it was really great. Very colorful as far as presentation. Lots of steak chunks and I loved the thickness of the homemade corn tortilla. 5/5 Baja Shrimp - this was good as well, but pretty standard and not on the same level as the other two. 3/5 Ensenada - comes with 2 tortillas to accommodate the large piece of fried fish, really good taco as well. Maybe breading was slightly on the salty side. Seemed to be beer-battered. 4/5 I also added a fountain drink. During my visit their sodas were down 2 options, no coke and no iced tea. They did have horchata and jamaica flavored drinks on their fountain machine, so I wasn't too upset about the lack of iced tea. I ended up getting the Jamaica drink. The service here was not the best, especially the unfriendly cashier, but aside from all that, I came for the food, not to make friends. You order at the counter, find a seat, get some sauces and garnishes from the salsa bar (mainly for take out customers), and they will bring the food out to you. The ambiance is okay. They have an end cap in the shopping center so the space has plenty of natural light. Decor is black, white and then colorful with a couple of blue and red accent walls. Chair cusions are also colorful, along with colorful flowers at each table and colorful art work. They also have an Instagram worthy wall for those interested. Their chairs and tables are lacquered and a little worn. Not sure if they're supposed to be like that or not. They do have 6 beers on tap and have 4 different bottled beers too...so they really are true to their name; however, I didn't order any.

But you can park across the mall street and walk over, just be careful when crossing traffic. Inside the place is beautifully decorated with culture and colors. Enjoyed that about the place. We checked in and promptly got seated, our initial seating was next to a window, but also next to the waiter order entry computer. Between that and my friend sitting in a wicker chair that has seen better days because she was falling into it, we requested to be moved. Our next seating was better with standard seats, but definitely crowded all around between the tables and waiters squeezing thru, made you feel packed like sardines. I get they want more patrons, but it feels a bit suffocating having everyone so bunched up like that. So much so, that when the tables behind me requested their meal that comes with a fire presentation, I felt that on the back of my neck, I wondered, Am I having hot flashes? No, just the fire blazing closely behind me. Additionally, the noise level is loud where I could barely hear my friend across the table or the waiter talking to me, I had to ask to repeat what he said many times. Our waiter, Christian, was very friendly and attentive. Since it was our first time dining there, we had questions on some items since this wasn't TexMex nor Mexican food that I had tried. So much so that if you like grasshoppers, you can have them added to your guacamole or some other offerings. I wasn't feeling rebellious enough to have tried that, so we passed. As an FYI, chips and salsa are not complimentary, you have to order them as the Salsas & Tostadas, you're provided with 3 different salsas, each with its own spice level. The main thing for me is that our main meal lacked flavor/seasoning. I got the Enmoladas (Mole de Rancho) which were smoked chicken enchiladas. Served with a side of Swiss chard. They tasted fresh, but when it came to a punch of flavor, we got none. The chard was not specifically something I enjoyed nor finished eating. We requested salt, which we didn't want to do, but adding the salt to the Enmoladas helped bring some flavor. Saw they have a brunch offering and would like to return for that and try some of their other drinks.

The previous dining experience before this one, was not good, but I didn't post about it. I was really hoping it was a one time issue. The chips were so greasy you feared eating them for getting sick. The manager acknowledged how bad they were, and said they had an issue with the supplier. He said rather than not serve chips, they decided to serve them. They were inedible. Also the once delicious salsa has gotten watery. After my food arrived, I sent the taco back because the shell was the same as the chips. So greasy and the taco poured grease out of it. This last trip, the chips were better, but still very greasy and tasteless. The nachos I had would be about the quality of Chilis. No refried beans. Most restaurants layer refried beans, cheese and meat for SIX almost $20 dollar nachos. The chicken fajita meat was dry, and the beef was not good. A few bites were not edible. Another note- The once delicious tortillas were super thick and gummy. The manager came by and I explained everything to him . He didn't have much to say and didn't really seem concerned... other than taking off $2 of the bill. Which I do appreciate! It's still a beautiful restaurant, just sadly the food has changed too much for it be a top place for me.
