I remember when this location first started, it was basically a grill behind a counter and a few rough wooden picnic tables, covered by an awning, but holy smokes the food was so good! Now, it is a very inviting location with comfortable seating inside and beautiful decor. The fact they put this much effort in tells me they care about the full experience. Everyone who works here is so very nice. Last time I was in everyone was checking on my dad, who is definitely older and has a bit of trouble getting around sometimes. The service is super friendly and they are fast, but not like "hurry up and eat and get the hell out" fast. I noticed a lot of families, sometimes three generations, all hanging out and having a nice time with great food. Speaking of the food, OMG! I have eaten Mexican food all over (several cities in the homeland included) and this is some of the best I have ever had. Some of the best food in general. The menu weighs about as much as a dictionary, there are so many choices. They even have vegetarian and gluten free options. I had the Pollo Al Chipotle last time. It was one of the best things I have ever eaten, not just Mexican, but just in general. We had a hankerin' for Mexican food & ended up here. We pulled up and used the drive thru with its menu spanning the land, sea and air. We ordered two entrees - an enchiladas and asada quesadilla and taco, and received aluminum encased meals with plenty of chips and salsa. The portions were huge (leftovers were enough for 2 meals), and the food was decent. Would rate the food 3.5 stars, but the service bumps it up to 4 stars. OK, so four years ago I gave this restaurant a one star review because my entire family got food poisoning and I broke out in hives from whatever they put in their food. Today we decided to retry their food because in the past, we've loved their food so we wanted to give it another try, the service was mediocre. The food was very plain. My daughter loves rice and beans and she said it was not good at all. When I tried to correct her when the plate came out she kept repeating that I ordered the wrong item and then proceeded to show me that she had written it wrong on her note pad. What a great find last evening while visiting Yakima. My "go to" Mexican Restaurant for years was closed and another restaurant had taken its place. I opened up Yelp and found this restaurant was close by with great reviews. So off we went and arrived to a friendly welcome and choice of seating location during the Covid concerns. A great Cadillac Margherita with chips and salsa were a great start to the awesome meal. I had chili verse and my wife a beautiful huge burrito. Generous portions allowed for leftovers coming with us for another 2 meals. The corn tortillas were hot, fresh, thick and amazing. We will be back, dinner with that high end margarita and hot tea and tax was $45, so very reasonable and well worth the price. While we were seated we witnessed numerous employees cleaning and disinfecting tables, booths, menus etc the entire visit. We felt very safe in this regard. Employees were masks and gloves both. Really delicious! Thick, substantial corn chips and tomato-forward salsa. Their seafood chimichanga was a heckuva nice surprise! The fish was fresh and tender, with real crab, scallops, and shrimp. The sauce was a bit thick and reminiscent of a Pepto-Bismol color, but still very tasty. The Fuerte burrito was massive. That sucker will feed a small village... or just you for four meals; great flavors, tender meat, and a tangy red sauce. The real star was the margaritas. Holy smokes! These are fantastic!!! They're strong, so hold onto your britches and drink slowly! Great food! Great service! Outdoor seating was also very pleasant, even with the strong winds. Two thumbs up! read more

I ordered take out and once I got home, we noticed our child's lunch was missing. I called and they explained they were sorry and that the next time we ordered a kid's menu item, to give our name and it would be free along with chips and salsa. The next time I called, about three weeks later to order lunch, I mentioned our last experience and how we were to receive a free kid's menu item because it was not given to us after paying for it. Well, back and forth over the phone (and who I'm assuming is the owner) they said they would not honor giving the kids item for free. Upset and confused, I gave my contact information as they wanted to follow up with the staff who was working at that time with the understanding someone would call me back. Well here we are, weeks later and no one has followed up. After 8 years of eating here with friends, family and coworkers of nearby businesses, I will no longer eat here and I will tell everyone I know not to as well. It's such a nice problem to have to be able to not have a go to Mexican spot because there are so many good options in the area! In the same vein as many of the prior reviews regarding Mexican restaurants, El Porto. De Pepe is another great spot dishing up really solid Mexican cuisine. We came here on a lazy Tuesday evening after hearing some good things about the place. We found yet another awesome spot! My wife and I shared the molcajete which was absolutely delicious. It was heightened by the fact that it was not only flavorful, but also presented very nicely. The stone bowl that comes out just below the temperature of lava is always a crowdpleaser. Something here that I hadn't seen previously is they actually included bits of cooked cactus in it. Made for something a little bit different and was very nice. One serving was plenty to feed both my wife and I. The kiddos had tacos and an enchilada, both of which were solid. Perhaps the most unexpected thing that came out of here were the beverages. They've got the standard Mexican beer choices, but they did a very nice job with what I shall call ancillary beverages. Arroyo Rogers, Shirley Temple, their version of a Creamsicle in about 45 other familiar, but out of the ordinary drinks were available. Our five and three-year-olds we're very excited to be introduced to Mr. Rogers and Mrs. temple, and they came in a good size glass. Not the sort of thing that you go back for if the food is bad, but since the food here is good, it made for a nice little treat! The folks taking care of us were all very nice, attentive and very pleasant. This is definitely a spot that we will go back to. You should probably try it too! read more

i came here to meet and visit with my gf who lives out of town and I hardly get see her. of course I was happy to see her and was very much full of PDA with her. we sat outsid and ordered ONE happy hour drink and then when I was given my second drink, it was HORRIBLE .... I told them it taste like peptobismol (I swear it did) and instead of them correcting my second drink they came back with the bill !! and said they were unable to make me another drink, that I would have to pay for it ....AND that they were refusing to further services us!!! I personally felt like this place was in no way taught how to handle customer complaints for one , for two learned customer service skills since the waitress walked away while I was talking ... plus I felt very discriminated against..... didn't feel this place was LGBT friendly.... at all.. I have NEVER been treated this way in my life for complaining about a drink that I NEVER ONCE refused to pay for??? They treated me so unfair and unlike anything I have ever experienced before I felt the prejudice in their looks and I am so disappointed that the manager wouldn't even show her face after my girlfriend (who runs a hospitality business herself ) requested to speak with her. Never a doubt that the food will be hot, delicious, filling, satisfying, and delivered with a smile. Some of the best mexican food I've had in a long time!! I ordered asada enchiladas with rice and beans. First off, everything was delicious and in large portions! Enchiladas were perfect, but the thing that really caught me was how delicious the beans were! The best beans I've ever had. Lol usually when I eat Mexican food the beans taste more or less the same and are not the highlight of the meal. These were just delicious. I currently live in Portland and was just in town for work, but ugh! I wish I could go back. Also, the service was great. I ordered food and it was ready in about 15 mins for pick up. This is a decent little taqueria west of downtown Yakima. It's housed within what I'm assuming is an old fast food joint, although it's fast food past is not evident with all the funky dope Latin art and flavor adorning this joint. I grabbed a booth, and was welcomed by a very nice (& cute) server. She hooked me up with a menu, and yes, this place has a full bar. I first pounced on a margarita, BUUUUUT [i like BIG "buts"] I had to track my server down and change my drink to a sangria. How can you say no to sangria!? I chose wisely [I'm smart like that], because this was some potent homemade sangria! For food, their menu is fairly extensive and has some very authentic taco truck/taqueria (i.e. non-gringo) options. I go weak in the knees for al pastor (I love pineapple juices dripping over my meat---yeah, I'm insane). So I went with the Taquitos Al Pastor. This was a full meal with my taquitos served under broiled green onions = YUM (take a look at the photo I snapped). Now I stopped here before going to Yakima's "Salsa En Calle" summer concert on the street. I was a bit lethargic when I showed up to salsa dance, but I was good to go after a few songs---I was fueled up on the best grub to hit the dancefloor/street with! Love this place! Me and my boyfriend go here daily. I usually order pork enchiladas with rice and beans and let me tell you, they never fail to disappoint! You also get a huge mug of horchata or Jamaica that it's impossible to finish. I ordered the 2 enchilada meal and she ordered the chalupa and enchilada meal and honestly one plate woulda fed us both. The portions are huge and the food was very excellent. Now I'm usually the type that takes about half of my meal home from restaurants depending, but in this case the food was so damn good I could not stop eating even tho I wanted and needed to. My friend and I have been going to el porton de Pepe for months now, usually 2-3 times plus with other people. I have always highly recommended it to everyone . Tonight has changed my opinion drastically. We ordered drinks and they were horrible, ridiculously sweet and not like a margarita at all so we sent them back and I asked mine be remade and my friend didn't feel lucky so she did not want hers made again. The waitress came back and told me that since it was made, the bartender refused to make it again without charging me for a second drink. After words were exchanged she finally did bring me another but it was awful. Food arrives. We both ordered extra crispy quesadillas and both were so undercooked that they had to be eaten with a knife and fork. The waitress ignored us the rest of the time we were there.. When the checks came, the drinks were on there and we had to speak with the head waitress to get them rEmoved. It was a bad experience from start to finish.' I was craving some Mexican food during one lunch break so came here while I was out on the road. Went to the drive thru (which had a broken system) so I ordered right at the window. Got the pollo asado salad since I know pollo at least meant chicken. When I got it, I got a bag of chips and salsa which I was not expecting (and found out a pleasant surprise!) As for the food itself, the tortilla chips were fresh made as was the salsa. Salsa had some nice kick, which I like, but if you're looking for a "mild" one, this one ain't it! The salad was pretty standard but there was broccoli in it? In a Mexican salad? Weird..but hey more nutrition never hurt anybody. The chicken was laid out on top of the salad with some cheese underneath. It was grilled nicely, had a good amount of spice (not too much) and could taste the citrus it was marinated in.
