I stopped for lunch , scanned the menu on the wall. Ordered a burrito, the menu said $14.95, was charged $17.95, which I didn't notice until I paid the bill. Pointed out the over charge, was asked where I got the menu from, I told her that I scanned the one on the wall right next to my booth, she informed me that the price has gone up, but that she would send a manager over. Visited during lunch time yesterday 9/20/22. Server was rude when asked about sitting outside. We asked about drying off a table, the server said, "Wait, I am busy." Later, the server came outside with an attitude and started drying off a random table without asking us where we wanted to sit. When we told the server we wanted to be seated at another table, the server sucked their teeth, did a rapid wipe and left. The chairs and tables were still wet. After that unwelcome treatment, we decided to spend our money at another restaurant in downtown Lowell. This is a good spot for after work margaritas and chips. The staff have been there for a long time and are always welcoming. The last time we ate here, we sat outside on the sidewalk. It was great to be able to sit outside and unwind with a margarita. As far as food goes, I typically order a steak quesadilla. The steak is well seasoned and in good proportion with the amount of cheese. Last time I ordered the house margarita and wasn't too impressed so I'll stick to my passion fruit margarita from now on. Third and last time I go to this restaurant. They offer you cheese for the nachos and it is not on the menu and they charge you $ 6.99 for a small plate. Its not about money but they must notify the customer before offering it. Second, I left them $ 15.00 tip for the waiter to treat me rude just because the frozen margarita looked like juice and I only asked him to be more consistent. Best Mexican food we've ever had! We had a party of 8 last night and every one of us feels the same! From the salsa with the chips to the Chimichangas to the Quesadillas, Flautas, Taco Salad, Carne Asada etc... And the Margaritas... Best Mexican we've ever had. The service was phenomenal, too! I haven't been going out lately but was craving Mexican and thought why not support a local business. The food: I ordered a shrimp chimichanga that came with rice and beans, lettuce, sour cream, and guacamole( I wish I took a photo of the half a teaspoon or so they served me). The chimi was soggy and barely had any shrimp in it and the rice must have been from the pervious day( you know how rice gets hard when microwaved? Yeah). Also never got the chips and salsa the server mentioned while seating us. Terrible all around. Later that evening I started feeling nauseated and it got progressively worse, I was sick for TWO days. Almost every weekend, we try to find new places for us to try out and for this particular week, we decided we didn't want to go too far for food. Right in downtown Lowell, we found this bright colorful Mexican restaurants with some traditional festive style decors. This place seem to have decent reviews so we gave it a go. Tacos de Adobada- Spicy pork has a nice little kick to it. It's juicy and tender and the vegetables in each taco were very fresh. I enjoyed it. Enchiladas Suizas- Flavorful and delicious shredded beef inside these tortilla rolls topped with sauce and cheese. **Both dishes were served with rice and refried beans. Overall Service: When we got in, they pointed at the table in front for us to take our seats but it wasn't cleared off yet. We waited and the gentleman apologized as he ran over to wipe down the table for us which was a bit awkward because we were just standing there. I'm not sure why he didn't set us at another table since it was a quiet night for them. Owell! Let me be clear and mention that the reason I gave this restaurant only three stars is not because the food didn't taste good. The food wasn't amazing and I was sort of surprised because basically everything on the menu is a minimum of $14. I got a soda along with my three taco meal which made it a $20 lunch! I rarely ever spend more than half of that, and I usually get a lot more food for my dollar if I do. My brother in law got the Camarones al Potro which was also very good. The service was awesome I should've asked for the waitresses name she is the only girl there. This was my first visit to El Potro. But this will not be my last. I was here for a quick consultant meeting with a client. The patio was open as well as the inside. Since we are under the whole COVID-19 situation, we sat outside. The restaurant has QR code's on the table that show the menu. Pretty smart to avoid having to decontaminate menus. We ordered a veggie taco plate and a steak taco plate in addition to the chips, salsa, queso, and guac. The plates came with rice and beans as well. The entire meal was exceptional and the staff was personable enough, but, they realized we were having a meeting and operated very quietly and courteously. The overall experience was great. They even have a WiFi code available and a power outlet by our table so that I could plug up my laptop. Here the thing, the service here is FANTASTIC. Super nice dudes and very attentive. The problem however was the food. We ordered the chicken tortilla soup and it was VERY runny. It was literally like seasoned water. It needed salt and pepper as well. I wouldn't recommend the soup to be honest. For an entree I ordered the mole enchiladas. The enchiladas were BARELY covered with the mole sauce. At first it looked unappetizing, but after biting into it I was thankful that it wasn't covered with the mole because it tasted like grinded up lentils and tamerand. There wasn't anything special about the mole. I was really bummed out but hey, maybe they have other stuff that's good? Love El Potro! They are often busy, so you might find that high traffic times come with a bit of a wait, though I tend to show up during downtime and walk right in. The staff here is always great, just so friendly and chill. They totally contribute to the lax vibe of the place. I've never had a bad meal or margarita here (the margarita menu comes with an extensive list of tequila options!). My cousin and I do tend to have a favorite though, we just can't say no to the fish tacos! They are delicious! I recommend getting Jarritos soda while there as well. It's a sweet, fruity drink made with natural sugar, and every flavor I've tried so far has been great. Great food, attentive servers, BUT they don't make their margaritas from scratch which is a total bummer. If this restaurant was in a more scenic and more spacious location, then I would give it 5 stars. We ate outside which was nice, but the bustle of downtown Lowell is not always so easy on the eyes. Patio seating was functional, but nothing like the "authentically decorated" interior. Tables and chairs were like you would see on your neighbor's suburb porch. We figured we could do some decent people watching while we ate, but not really. We were actually seated so close to the sidewalk/fence divider that you could be brushed up against by a pedestrian or waiting patrons (no waiting area except outside) accidentally. The inside seating seemed good, but it was hot and sticky indoors so we opted for the latter. Overall a pleasant and yummy experience.
