El Ranchero Taco Truck has been in this lot for at least past 9 years and I have never had a bad experience. All of their tacos are excellent. Their salsas are also delicious. They do need to update their menu and pricing, it's sort of all over the place. Everything is cooked to order so it takes a minute to get your food but it comes out piping hot every time. They have a decent sized seating area that's lit up at night. You can park pretty much anywhere after the smog shop closes. There are occasionally homeless folks sleeping around the other side of the building so I wouldn't wonder around the parking lot. Stick to the food truck and seating area and you'll be fine. read more

Amazing spot! Stumbled across this food truck while driving by. It's a little hidden and behind an automotive service business but if you find it you won't be disappointed. We ended up trying several different items from the Menu and I must say 5/5 for me and my taste....the adobada was definitely my favorite and there mix of salsas where very good as-well. My brother & i went there for lunch. My brother ordered a deluxe breakfast burrito and was charged for one. He ended up getting a regular burrito and not the deluxe. When we went back to ask for the right burrito the cook was visibly mad. She gave an attitude to us and the he own cashier. We heard the cashier tell the cook that she told her it was a deluxe burrito and you could tell she was mad. We were able to get the replacement after waiting around 20 minutes. I ordered a trio of street tacos from this food truck. I had the a "al pastor" which was incorrectly labeled as "adobada", a carne asada taco, and a beef birria taco. All three tacos were quite good, but my favorite was the beef birria taco with guacamole. The beef was flavorful and had a good amount of juice in it. It was bliss with guacamole which you have you have to ask for apparently. The Al Pastor was tasty but the meat was a little tough given it was not sliced and chopped across the grain. They use a more traditional light green creamy avocado sauce on this taco and it was good. The carne asada taco was good too. The meat was well seasoned and had slight smoky flavor. They put a good amount of meat in the taco too. They guy at the window and the gents on the griddle had good senses of humor. The tacos were $1.90 each. read more

Delicious, authentic Mexican street tacos! I visited San Diego just last week. I asked my friend to take me on a personal taco tour, and this was out last stop. This place has been relatively solid for me. My go to's are adobada mulitas or the adobada tacos with 'natural guacamole'. Carne Asada tacos and mulitas have been relatively good too. One of the few spots I have found tripe tacos but I normally take those home to broil the tripe a little bit more to get a crisp crunch. I asked them once to make the tripe crispy and all I got was char. Nonetheless, on its good day, can be a close resemblance to a Tijuana taco. What has been consistently frustrating has been that they always run out of birria consome (broth). I like to order 2 birria tacos and a consome but they seem to always run low on it. A good spot to grab a taco or two, but it does start adding up as the prices have increased often from their time there. read more

I've been here a few times & it's ok. I would come back. The service is friendly & fast. It's affordable too. Their tacos can be hit or miss at times, sometimes they can be a bit dry but even then the tacos are still good not great but good. My favorite item here is the Carne Adada Fries, they are GREAT! I would come back for that & a taco De Cabeza which was my favorite taco there. The Carne Asada fries were on point, it had melted white cheese & guacamole on the bottom & the meat was nice & tender. Ask for extra meat on it, it's a $1.50 extra but well worth it. They also have a little pot of hot beans that you can help yourself too when waiting for your tacos. And they have Tripa tacos, that's hard to find in San Diego. Over all it's a good taco truck & worth a try & worth coming if your near by & have a craving for some mini tacos. Good tacos, especially the Birria. Only downfall to this taco truck was the pot of beans sitting right next to the FREE salsa bar that they expect you to pay for. If you want customers to pay for beans, why place them outside of the taco truck beside the free salsa bar under the tarp where people can easily access them just like they would the free salsa bar? It would make sense to have them located inside the taco truck and order them while your ordering your tacos. Worst part was they were rude about it. Like people are supposed to know that the beans you have sitting out by the free salsa bar are for SELL? Not to mention, that's a health code violation to have food your selling out in the public access area. You don't know what people or unattended kids are doing/putting in the beans, or if they are even being properly heated. I don't think I'll be back. read more

I (unfortunately) moved away from Chula Vista in 2009 to Riverside county. Finding good Mexican food is rare up there so when I come down to visit, I'm sure to hit up my favorite places. I got birria, my mom got cabeza and my niece got adobado. OMG! It hit my taco craving spot and I cannot wait to be back. They are not stingy with their meat and the young guy that took our order was super friendly. All of the tacos were good, the salsa selection was perfect and my chamoy y mango raspado is a must have. Seating is limited on a busy day (I imagine) and don't expect a quiet meal being that the freeway on ramp is right next to you. When the food is good, I don't mind. Finally tried this place 10/29/2021, food trucks are so tempting. I have lived in Chula Vista for years in the past and support every local business. Having said that CV has Tacos el Gordo for adobada tacos and this place although decent just is a couple steps below with the flavor. It seems the adobada marinade they use just doesn't penetrate the meat and is lacking a few ingredients. The prices, portions seem legit. But the flavor just doesn't hit the spot since us locals are spoiled from T el Gordo. This place is quick, neat, and seems to have steady clients. But unless a new recipe arrives I'd rather spend the extra money for the real deal at Tacos el Gordo. Just my opinion. read more

Nice and quaint inside, there is outdoor seating as well which is perfect since I love bringing my dog. On the weekends they have a little cart out front to serve street tacos, definitely will try next time! The menu is quite big with a lot of options for vegan all the way to meat lovers but the staff is there to help with recommendations! They genuinely care about you here. They give you a bowl of chips and salsa while you wait and it was the perfect amount t of heat (you can definitely see some seeds so you know it's a bit spicy!) I ordered the potato rolled tacos ($6.20 after tax) tryto be on the safe side for my first time here. I liked it but I wish they cooked it a little longer so it was crunchier. This place isint all that great to me. The tacos de vapor suck they don't taste anything like tijuana. The tripa are all right...kinda needed more salt, the asada is ok. The lengua is good but would be better if it had salt and some chile verde. I do like the salsas and that they offer beans and grabanos but the food.. probably never again. Was really disappointed.
