In a time where everything seems to increase in costs, I find myself looking for staples in the community that: offer good value, support local, has a great story and is dependable. I find that at Luzita's. The food is good and it doesn't break the bank. hey're also pretty fast. Unlike some other shops that are way more expensive and take long to turn orders. . On top of this, they are really active in the community and give back. Who can't appreciate that? Especially to the Lowrider culture and life style; which I've been around all my life. I have never had a bad experience here and like the food. My litmus test for all tacos shops are rolled tacos and carne asada burritos. You'd think it's easy to produce these two but SO many do it wrong. Luzita's offers something very familiar to me and I can count on them to be consistent; regardless of who's working the kitchen. We will never come here again. I ordered a chips with guac and cheese (nachos style) for $6.10 and a carne asada burrito in a bowl (same as a burrito without the tortilla for $10. Both items were very small portioned and skimpy on the guacamole. Super disappointed. read more

Been going to this spot for 10+years. Im talking about since I went to the middle school next to it. This place never misses! It's always soo good! They're California burritos are fire! Tortilla and meat always have good flavor. The roll tacos have a good amount of meat in them! Crunchy and fresh. There salsas have flavor and are spicy! I recommend this spot 100%. Any good reviews this place has, I'm sure it's from the people that belong to the car club that the manager has. This place is the worst taco shop I've ever been to in my life. The unfortunate thing is it's also the closest to my house so sometimes I just gotta suck it up if I wanna save on gas.Nothing but tortilla!!!! it's not even that good. The service sucks and the ambience sucks. The only reason why these people are still in business is because there's a school right next to them and all the kids getting off school have to go there for their afterschool snack.... I'm not gonna lie they're red hot sauce is fire! It's really really good. With that being said I got one of the easiest to make and most popular burritos in SD, the California burrito. The best carnitas in CB. My husband and I LOVE their carnitas burrito. This is one of our "go-to" places to eat.

This a great local taqueria that has homemade tex-mex/mexi-cali food. The chimichanga is definitely a highlight item for me personally, but I've had the shrimp/california/asada burritos, asada fries, pork tacos, and all of it was good. Highlight? This place is seconds away from house and it's so convenient when I'm starving and don't feel like driving. I've been coming here since it opened around 2002 and going strong. AAhhh, high school memories. Anyway, the restaurant is spacious, has a restroom, green and red hot sauce and the prices are fairly reasonable. On the weekend they have menudo. Yum! The overall food quality is OK. It doesn't suck and its not great. The tortillas always seam to get cold fairly fast. I prefer the skinny french fries over the the thicker ones and that's probably why I'm not to fascinated over they're Cali burritos and carne asada fries. I have only been there twice and i won't ever return to this place.. Yesterday i ordered a California Burrito and it was an average size so i went back today for the 2nd time ever.. What a big mistake. Burrito was ready, got it and went back to the Construction site.(Didn't check burrito til i got to mu job). Was about to eat the burrito and notice it was the SKINNIEST BURRITO i have ever seen in my life.. Paying $6.31 for a burrito i got robbed. The cook shouldn't even be working there. How was i suppose to return it when my lunch wad already over as soon as i got back and i was really hungry.. Now i will drive 10mins further and pay $1 more for a better burrito.. Not how I remember this taco shop. I started coming here about 5 years ago. I don't visit frequent, but my recent visit was not how I remember Luzitas. For $8 I always get the Cali Burrito with the soda. The burrito has definitely shrunk & barely any meat in it, majority was fries... also, the cheese or sour cream was old, it had a sour/expired taste to it. I didn't even eat half of my burrito. Lolita's is getting tired and staid. The apple cart needs to be upset. Where is Lucy Ricardo when you need her? A competitor arises and bares it's teeth. The bite is yours and the fight is for your dollar. Simple and filling, Luzita's. Like many other taco shops I was initially unimpressed with the place the first time I tried it. Time went on and I ran out of PATIENCE and I came here again. Now, the crew that runs the place has stepped up their game and are contenders. The beans are not memorable. Not to say they are a flavorless paste, they are not. It just seems to lack the richness of a fifty percent lard content. More Rex means more flavor. San Diego Classic Car Club dudes display their "babies'" pictures on the walls and ride herd on the high school and middle school kids. There were no less than three "New Haircut" style douchitos with a middle school girl in her uniform still that I didn't have to speak with about their inappropriate and disrespectful behavior on a Friday night. As I walk in there is a bunch of boards laying on a fooseball table. It was either a an open storage area or in the process of remodeling. Either way it should not be there for customers to see. The carne asada burrito was quite tasty and filled with a good portion of seasoned meat. The cheese on top of the rolled tacos, though, looked dry. It would have looked more appealing if the cook had melted it a bit on the rolled tacos. Service was friendly and respectful. It wouldn't take much to spruce up the place to make it more appealing and bring out its potential. Come on Luzita's, get crackin'! read more

I came by Luzita's in the middle of October 2012. I was substitute teaching at a nearby school and needed something fast. I ordered the shrimp burrito and it was decent. I docked them 2 stars for the following: I am a germophobe and I always wash my hands before eating and when I went to wash my hands the sign on the bathroom said, "for employees only." What! What is a germophobe to do? I took my order back to the school. I also docked them a star because the inside does not look that nice. For not a lot of money they can make the inside look more appealing. I will def. come back because the food is fast and good. read more

Wow. "The green salsa will curl your hair!" one of the patrons warned us. no kidding. Awesome! This place is well worth getting off the freeway (805?) to seek out and get your taste-buds pleased. I know that I will be back. The clerk knew the menu, and was happy to recommend food that he knew we would like. What a gentleman! I enjoyed an order of the best rolled taco's of my life. We also had some really nice Cali' burritos made with some serious freshly fried fries, and very lovingly cooked-to-order Carne Asada. Everyone loves it when the fries are fresh and not soggy--Gracias, Luzita! It's refreshing that it took the cook a good 10 minutes to prepare the order. From the dining room, we could hear them in the back, cooking their asses off. Thank you for not just scooping out some grey, soggy beef out of a steam tray like so many taco shops do. This was clearly freshly grilled carne -- Delicious. We didn't need it, but I love that they have a bathroom.. how many taco shops one these days? Clearly Luzita's is suffering a mid-life identity crisis.... are you a wholesale furniture liquidator? Forget the broken video game uprights... how` about a serious juke box? Customers will love it. A few house-flies flapping in vain against the front window distracted me a little. Clearly that is some kind of health code violation. Really, a simple "air-door" curtain on the front entrance, and some fly control lamps would solve this problem. Hopefully there are already screen doors on the back kitchen? Its not even fly season yet here in May... so hopefully they will take care of this problem soon! A self-serve soda fountain and a nice parking-lot or out-back patio would go a really long way. What happened? Their Cali burritos were the bomb. I used to come here once or twice a week since HighSchool 07'. This place started going down hill when the prices went up a couple of years ago. A cali with a soda was $5, now its almost $8 with less meat and sourcream and more fries. It really tastes like pure potato. read more
