This place 10/10 - options top tier, crowded bc hellooooo good food, service exceptional, flavors on point, aqua frescas - actually authentic. Oh, & the extra home made salsas & topings are such a plus I guess we got blessed because every Monday through Friday until 5 PM it's buy 2 get 1 free. When you get a Agua Fresca, it's free refillables. Loved everything about this place!

For my first time going, I've won a giveaway on Instagram for a $50 gift card for this place and it was a treat! There were many meat selections for tacos and a salsa bar. I was amazed how it was even as take out. As for my second visit, I was greeted with welcoming and helpful staff. The service was amazing. The food was delicious and because I follow them on Instagram, I knew about their buy 2 for 1 price deal during weekdays 10am-5pm. I'm definitely coming back for more.

Got here right before the dinner rush and so glad we did because it got busy very quick. This is a place where you order straight to the cooks and once your food is served you go to the counter to pay. We ordered 2 papa loca; 1 asada and adobada, 4 tacos and 1 vampiro. Everything was delicious from the tortillas to the meats. We were very impressed by the adobada. Place is very spacious, plenty of seating inside, outside and they also have a drive thru. Everyone was friendly and patient when taking our orders. Definitely a must try and will visit again when in the area.

This place took over the old Tacos El Gordo on H St. The meats are well seasoned and a lot of protein options for street tacos, mulitas, vampiros, and fries. There's a salsa bar. They also make their own Agua de Fresca. A little on the pricey side but what isn't in this economy? Staff is friendly. Parking can be challenging.

Im so sad to give this place a low rating review... I loved the place! The service was so good! But the food gave me the worst runs and pain, I never get sick so it had to be something bad to make me hurt like that. Everyone working there was very very nice, I loved the selection, they have really nice salsas and toppings! Also the tacos were so good, so it pains me that I got sick. I am not so sure if I would go back and give them another chance because I'm too scared :( maybe in a few months.

Came here after a long day at the zoo. Was debating to try this place or tacos el franc. Not the best I've had in SD but pretty good. It's street taco size. Glad I tried it but if I'm in the area, I'd probably try another taco spot or go to el gordo which is the best in the area in my opinion.

One of the best tacos I've had in San Diego! I tried three different meats- carnitas, suadero, and asada. All were delicious, but the carnitas stole the show. The meat had a perfect crisp, almost like chicharrón, yet tender and juicy with every bite. I also tried the horchata, which was creamy, sweet, and full of cinnamon flavor. We'll definitely be back for more!

Taqueria by El Prieto (TEP) is located where (1 of 2) Tacos El Gordo (TEG) used to be located in the area. The other TEG (was 2 of 2, now the only one in the area) is about a block away on Broadway. So how did we end up here if TEG is just down the street? For whatever reason, TEG was closed! It was shocking... we were not sure why they were closed on a Monday night around 7pm. The hours posted says they were supposed to be open. We thought maybe they had some sort of emergency and didn't have enough people to work, but honestly, not really sure what happened. That is what brought us to TEP. We thought we'd give them a try because we were in the area already and were craving tacos. This place wasn't as crowded and we were able to find parking. That is already the opposite of what you tend to experience at TEG. We quickly glanced at the menu and were ready to place our order. There was no line... we placed our order of tacos and paid at the cashier. They have a similar set up to TEG where you order and pay at separate places. The tacos passed the eye test and it was time to dig in. Both the carne asada and adobada were good. All the ingredients tasted fresh and the carne asada was seasoned and tasty. I also liked the adobada, but overall, I didn't think the tacos were as good as TEG. The place is clean and there is plenty of seating because this place doesn't get crowded like TEG. The service was good, employees and cashier all friendly. Parking wasn't a problem. When it was TEG, you were rarely able to find parking in the lot. Would we return? We would probably return here to TEP only if for whatever reason TEG is closed. The tacos here are good, but not TEG good. 4 / 5: Tacos 4 / 5: Service 4 / 5: Cleanliness 4 / 5: Overall

3.5-4. 4 only due to good salsa bar. Out of our way but wanted to try due to good reviews and recommendations as we usually go to TJ tacos up in Escondido. We ordered asada, adobada, and lengua tacos. Adobada was the best among the 3 but only just a solid 4. The meat was super flavorful and juicy but the overall toppings itself were ok. Asada was tender but not very flavorful and no smoke flavor. Lengua was by far the worst. It was tender enough but it also lacked flavor. I did like their salsa bars though. Salsas were very good. Overall quite disappointing for the drive we had to make and the overall lack of flavor and quality. Service was fine and ok amount of parking. Not a huge restaurant either so not a lot of seating.

My cousin took us here in lieu of a taco restaurant we originally wanted to try since they were so busy. She said this place was really good. I remember this restaurant used to be a tacos el gordo. Similar concept to tacos el grodo. When we arrived there was no line. There was plenty of seating. The staff were so friendly. My party ordered a few adobada, cabeza, asada, tripas and buche tacos. The tacos were loaded with toppings and a good portion of meats. The tripas were crunchy, just the way I like it. The adobada was so flavorful. The tortillas were so delicious! This resturant did not disappoint. They have self serve condiments and drinks. Would definitely recommend and will return.

We decided to visit after a tik tok video on their weekday bogo deals on tacos. This place definitely did not disappoint. We got the adobado, tripas, and carnitas tacos. The customer service with the cooks was so welcoming! The food was amazing and I will definitely be back. Can't beat the buy one get one free deal!

We got this spot recommend by us from a friend. Right when you walk in you are greeted, by hospitality and smell of the food ! I started things out with their adobada tacos (pork) and they hit like crazy !! So good ! I also got the baked potato with the carne asada on top ! A must try ! My buddy got the lengue tacos and loved them. He also got asada tacos and said they taste just like tj tacos ! We shared the Cabeza quesadilla which was also amazing ! We each got the chocoflan and also yummy. They have different Auga frescas as well. Restaurant was clean and service was great which is a plus !

After hearing about this place for years finally had a chance to try it. There are two locations, this one is more inland in a mall type area with some peripheral parking spaces around. The shop has a handful of tables to sit at, and also does take out. The staff are super friendly. The food; 1) carne asada tacos: 4 stars, $4 each, good portion of tender meat albeit have had more flavorful at other shops, good portion of guacamole, and corn tortilla. Definitely super solid but adobada is better 2) adobada tacos: 5 stars, $4 each, nice portion of well seasoned, tender meat topped with salsas and surrounded by corn tortilla, similar style to tacos el gordo albeit with more meat per taco, more sweetness to the meat, and more tender meat. Really good! Overall this place is super solid. The Adobada especially is the way to go!

It's no secret that San Diego has tacos in…read morespades and being so close to the border, you'd think that a quest to find the perfect taco would be as simple as rolling down to the nearest taqueria. Except, it's not quite that simple. Many beloved staples have gone downhill, while some newer spots that might boast things like a Michelin mention or multiple locations ranging from TJ to Vegas contain more hype and gristle than tender meat and substance. Enter Chula Tacos. Chula is, and always was, the type of place that makes you forget that you're not actually in Tijuana. While part of me misses their OG Market Street location, seeing them with brick-and-mortars feels hard-earned and well-deserved. This location on Palm in IB is relatively easy to access from the freeway, but parking can be tricky. You can safely assume that it will be busy and you will either have to be very lucky or be willing to find a spot on the street. Out of all the times I've been here, it's always been crowded enough that I've never been able to find a table inside, but I enjoy sitting out on the patio next to the ahumederos. The first thing that hits you walking through the door is how amazing everything smells. The queue to the cashier takes you near a window showing the kitchen where you can see the Chula Tacos team making fresh tortillas, slicing meat from the trompos, grilling up jalapenos, nopales, onions, labio, and tripa. For me, it's not so much a challenge to decide what I want, it's more a challenge to keep myself from ordering everything. My usual is four tacos: two asada, two al pastor (but I've heard that I should also try their world famous keka). The tacos though? Perfection. Every time, the asada is the juiciest and most tender I've ever eaten, the al pastor is succulent and flavorful, and no taco in front of me is long for the world. At $3.50 each, every one of them is absolutely loaded. Three would honestly fill me up, but I always want four. After getting burned by spots that ask around 75% more and deliver anywhere between 25-50% less, Chula Tacos feels like an absolute godsend of a Tijuana-style taqueria and I can't see any other contenders being my go-to. So, when I say "Tacos will fix me," what I mean nowadays is "Chula Tacos will fix me."

Every item we ordered was packed with delicious flavors and made fresh. One thing that stood out was their attention to detail with to-go orders--they provided plenty of condiments, including a variety of salsas, cucumbers, radishes, and peppers, which really elevated the meal. The highlight of the menu is the Keka Taco. It is incredibly delicious, loaded with flavor, and so filling that it can easily satisfy even the biggest appetite. The only downside to this establishment is the limited parking, which can make picking up your order a bit challenging during busy times. However, the amazing food and generous portions more than make up for the parking inconvenience. If you're in the area, the Keka Taco is a must-try!

At first I gave them a great review & last time not so great due to prices & portions. Well now over the years their prices are better than other taco shops & portions have gotten bigger. Tho they only have 3 tacos on the menu, Carne Asada, Birria, Adobada, they are good & they have one of the better Birria soup/broth in SD. Their carne asada is one of the best in SD, so juicy & soft I love it, their Birria taco is good too but I prefer their order of Birria or broth & their Adobada is ok just a bit too marinated for me. They also have burritos, tortas & Mullitas & I recommend the Carne Asada form in those because I believe they have one of the best Carne Asada meats in SD. The customer service is really good, cooks are cool & fast & the girls on the register are really nice & the place is always clean. And you know the best part, they have a dispensary/weed store next door so you can buy a joint & go smoke a joint in your car & then walk here & get a few tacos & Birria broth, now that's a perfect breakfast or lunch, tacos & weed go hand & hand baby :) Overall a good little hole in the wall taco shop if you don't want crazy long lines & good service & good tacos & Birria meat or broth this is your place. Tacos El Cino - A Must-Try for Adobada Vampiros…read more One of my favorite taco spots, hands down. I've tried a million places, but the adobada vampiros here keep me coming back. Think of it as a tostada sandwich with cheese on both sides, onions, cilantro, guacamole, and perfectly seasoned adobada meat. Unlike other spots where the tortilla is overcooked or turns chewy, here it's always crispy--adding a satisfying crunch to every bite. The salsa is a standout, too. There's a unique spice in it, maybe cumin, that I can't quite place, but it's delicious. They also offer a green salsa and a habanero salsa, which I'll have to try next time. The slightly sweet adobada pairs really well with the savory salsa, making every bite flavorful and balanced. I also tried the adobada keto taco--just in case I ever decide to do healthier Yelp reviews. It has all the same ingredients but swaps the tortilla for a cheese shell. Surprisingly, the shell held up well with all the toppings and had a great taste, just slightly less filling.
