Ethnic food grocery paradise! Alright, so I'm White. My great-grandmother was hispanic, and she just passed away, and I finally gained access to her recipes! Off exploring I go, and this particular location of El Rancho is my favorite. It is large, clean, bustling, and chock-full of amazing food. They have prepared dishes, both hot and cold, along with tables so you can even eat there if you want! Their fresh produce section rivals the best of the "standard" groceries in town, and I love their wide variety of smoked, dried, and also fresh peppers and chiles. You cannot miss their baked goods section... I just went on a shopping spree for a good week's worth of groceries and could not BELIEVE the prices! Fantastic :) Oh...you must get cheesy corn on your way out! I have no idea what this is about, but there is a stall, and you get the most sweet corn you ever tasted in a cup with 2 kinds of cheeses, butter, and there is hot sauce, lemon juice, and limes for adding to it. Ok so I'm a gringo going into basically Mexican Walmart supermarket only bigger. I would say this is a huge supplier to allot of my favorite Mexican joints. I have now been 2 x I highly recommend bringing your Spanish speaking friend to join you to translate. Today I ordered to Barbacoa tacos with all the fixns. The a chili relanos (sp?) it had an egg fried outer shell and stuffed with a huge block of queso fresco. NASTY no flavor at all and mine was served cold. That's where I took my 5th star away. Then upon my exit I treated myself to some Mexican corn the big cup. Yummy 5 stars however she didn't speaka any Engli like I said bring a friend. Who doesn't love a good grocery store?!? Stumbled upon this gem by accident and love everything they have to offer. Their produce section is very cheap! Everything is fresh! They have a hot food section where you can pick up tacos, and fajitas and various other ethnic foods, ready to eat. Loved the homemade tortillas & chips section too! They have a lovely meat counter where it's serviced by pulling a number so I definitely snagged some seasoned fajita meat for grilling for the cheap! (Shh! Don't tell my trainer) I wandered down a few aisles filled with Spanish goodies and headed to the checkout. Cant say that the workers were very friendly bc no one smiled or asked if I needed help, but I wont complain about that since everything else was fine. After finding this place on Yelp and seeing all the photos, I was very excited to visit this giant Mexican grocery store. My husband and I are considering moving to the Dallas area, we took a trip there to see what living there would be like. One of the factors of living there would be the availability, price, and quality of ethnic groceries. As soon as we walked in, we were very impressed and started taking a few pictures to document this awesome store. We didn't get very far when the general manager came up to us and told us to delete all of our photos. Shocked, my husband explained to him why we were taking pictures and that the only reason we were here in the first places was from pictures we saw on Yelp. Instead of just saying, ok, just don't take anymore photos, he INSISTED we delete them. We reiterated that we are from out of town and not trying to open a competitor store, and if we were, we certainly wouldn't openly take photos on an iPhone. But, he was very rude and adamant that we either delete the photos or leave, saying "i don't know you." We asked to speak to a manager, and were surprised that this rude little man was the manager. He refused to listen to any amount of reason or provide good customer service. Instead, we were escorted out, and then he called my husband an "a**hole." What should have been a great experience, completely ruined our day. The worst part is that this store is a chain, albeit the nicest of the locations, so what's the big secret? Perhaps someone should alert him that there are dozens of Yelpers that violated his rule and posted photos online. read more

Who knew? I've heard from other Louisiana natives that this is a good place to purchase seafood so I decided to check it out while I'm in the area. As I was walking in I was pleasantly surprised at the setup. The bakery section is large and includes every type of Mexican pastry imaginable. There's also a bar with fresh salsa, guacamole and flavored drinks. The produce selection is plentiful and the presentation is nice. Once I wondered back to the seafood and meat section I was in "Ah" at the selection. They carry live catfish that they can fillet for you. There are crabs, shrimp, sausage and everything I'll be looking for to make gumbo including tons of Louisiana brand seasonings. On the way out I grabbed a cup of corn...delish! I was really impressed by this place and was reminded why it's important not to judge a book by its cover. I'll be back! read more

I finally made a trip to El Rancho on Christmas Eve to get some pork to smoke for Christmas dinner, since Kroger's selection was poor. I was much impressed with this place, which sort of put me in the vibe of Central Market, only Mexican style. I ended up buying pork ribs and a pork loin --- and paid 50% less than what it would have cost at Kroger. I'll def. go back. The store was bright and clean. And festive, in only the way a Mexican supermarket can be. I also preferred the getting in and out of it much better than what I've experienced at the nearby Fiesta who's parking lot frightens me. read more

Best selection of foods, great meat and fresh fish department and lots of fresh vegetables

They do their fair share of keeping the place as clean as possible, but if you spend enough time there, you'll see kids opening up the pastry door, grabbing pastries, dropping them on the floor, and putting them back in. All while their parents are too busy chasing down their other children or organizing things in their carts. Small fly problem. The drinks are great and they do a great job keeping them covered. Tacos are good ($1.39). Chicken is a bit on the dry side. Lamb doesn't seem quite so fresh. Tortas are okay. They have tons of marinated meat. I usually see the fajitas run low, but makes me wonder about quality control since they don't seem to be selling the other cuts very often. Haven't had any problems, but plenty of room for improvement. read more

Terrible customer service. I have no tolerance for rude non empathetic service. You have lost our loyalty and I will make sure to be vocal about this to others. I love this place BUT if you do not speak at least a little espanol you are in trouble here if you need to ask a question. I speak "restaurant spanish" so it's ok but even with un poquito = it's hard if you need to ask a question... so be prepared!!! Other than that = this is an AMAZING place for fresh fruit and veggies (displayed like a magazine) and the best chicken salad and shrimp cocktail around. Their meat counter is also wondrful for pre-marinated meats for such things as Fajitas and Tacos al Pastor and Chicken for the grill. If you know how to make your way around the store it's a pleasure to shop here but if you can't speak a little spanish = go to Kroger and pay twice as much for inferior food = or learn Spanish ;-). read more

This is my go to place for fajitas, tablitas, and fresh flour tortillas! Anytime we have a party and grill out at my place, you can rest assured that you'll be seeing me at El Rancho! They always have the freshest meats, and they have the best price on marinated fajitas and marinated tablitas! Can't go wrong when everyone else is charging $6.00+/lb of marinated fajitas, but when El Rancho has them on sale, you can rest assured that I won't be paying more than $4.00/lb! If you want the best, fresh flower tortillas, along with great tasting marinated fajitas at a very reasonable price (when they're on sale), then definitely check out El Rancho! read more

I love going here for lunch/dinner with my wife and then picking up groceries. Home cooks of all backgrounds will find great ingredients to cook with at El Rancho. The cuisine that comes to mind first is Italian food. You'll find many of the non-traditional (to the US dinner table) cuts of meat that will make your Italian cooking much more authentic. Love this place!! Their house made salsas are amazing, and so are their other in-store produced products like tortillas and chips. I also like buying queso fresco and muenster here, the quality is great and it's so cheap (like half the price of Kroger). The elote stand outside is also amazing, I always ask them to hold the mayo and cream and they make it just like I want it. Watch out for their house made red sauce, it's so delicious but so spicy. read more

Feels like I'm in Mexico!!! I been to Mexico many times in the past. I love this place!!! They have the real authentic Mexican food here!!! Not that washed down down nonsense!! Drinks like horchata from scratch not a damn machine!!! I'm in love right now. My mom is from Mexico so I know these types of places when I see them that are 100% authentic. i love the freshly prepared food. i bought a family meal that consisted of roasted chicken, rice, beans, corn tortillas, and salsa. That was the best meal ever! My kids and hubby ate all of it! This is where I'm going when i need an already made meal asap, plus its authentic Mexican food like how i grew up with. Bland barbacoa tacos and watery menudo on a busy Saturday morning. Total buzz kill. The flavor of the food has declined over the last four or five months. The service also has been indifferent several times, which never happened before. Garnishes are everything with menudo - fresh onion, cilantro, fried tortilla chips and shredded lettuce should be added to a steaming bowl of menudo at the table right before eating. I got home and pulled out a huge handful of streaming wet lettuce but no onion or cilantro. There were some cold tostada tortillas to be broken up, I guess. Not even fried, just the Old El Paso from Kroger kind. Six months ago I would have given El Rancho on Coit five stars, hands down. Based on this last visit, three stars, and only because great fresh aguas and licuados and pan dulce. Food and service alone would have been two stars, and not by much. read more

I normally go to a La Michoacana to pick up pre-marinated fajitas or costillas, but everyone's been telling me to go to El Rancho. I decided to give it a shot. What I found was as a true gem. While I like La Michoacana, it's not the cleanest of markets. However, El Rancho was clean and orderly and cheap. They have a great prepared foods section where you can order and eat there. Their bakery is huge and you can smell the delectable treats from the parking lot. Their meat counter is at enormous and you'll have to wait in line, but it's worth it once you get there. It's half the price of any regular grocery store but twice as flavorful. The ribs alone are worth it. They cut it Korean style and you can buy it marinated or not, your preference. Slap those on the grill and in a few minutes you're in heaven. The produce is cheap and fresh, if not a little too fresh. I bought 8 avocados for a $1 but they weren't quite ripe yet. The premade salsa verde is great, but I thought the salsa roja was too smoky. Since I don't speak Spanish yet I'm dark skinned I fit it well but was spoken to in Spanish often. I employed my trusty miming abilities and was able to convey my requests. My comical antics caught the eye of many of the patrons and I was a hit. If you want fajitas, don't go to Central Market or Whole Foods and buy it pre-marinated, bite the bullet and go to your local Latin market. It'll be better and a hell of a lot cheaper! read more

Well I just found out that El Rancho is not a Hipanic owned business. BLAH!!! So I probably wont shop there anymore. They do have the cheapest pricess compared to the rest of the groceries stores. But why not use a different name instead of deceiving the Hispanic Community. read more
