My friends and I randomly found this place and found that it is a great place to get some drinks and tasty Mexican food. Though their name says "To Go", this place is actually a sit down restaurant with a decent amount of seating. The food is actually authentic and has items like pozole, tortas, tacos de birria and chilaquiles. And best of all, they have a "happy hour" special that is all day and every day. Margaritas (frozen or non frozen), palomas, and mojitos are all $6.

Pretty pleased with taco Tuesday here. I had carnitas, chicken tinga, beef, whatever was $2! It was a really good deal. 5 tacos for $10. I didn't get anything else but I'm sure the drinks are good too.

I made a point of going yesterday to check out Astoria's newest Mexican restaurant, El Rey Del Taco, for their grand opening. I think most people are familiar with their taco trucks (which can be found parked all over Astoria) so it's nice to see that they now also have a brick-and-mortar location. The restaurant occupies the former La Tienda space on 31st Avenue and 32nd Street. There's a nice outdoor set up in front and inside there are plenty of seating, along with some very cool looking hand painted murals on the wall. For their grand opening, they were doing a special promo of $2 taco/$5 everything else. I ordered 4 tacos (carnitas, chorizo, al pastor and bistec) and one chicken quesadilla. The tacos were all pretty good although I would say the bistec meat was slightly tough. The carnitas and chorizo were nice and flavorful. The tacos were made with handmade tortillas and topped with avocado cream sauce, cilantro, and onions. As for the quesadilla, you can opt for either corn or flour tortilla and it has crema, guacamole, lettuce, tomatoes, onions, and cilantro. It was delicious. Unsurprisingly, I found the food at the restaurant to be better than what they serve in their food trucks. Prices are practically the same so I'm thinking I'll probably skip the trucks and just order from their restaurant from now on.

It ended up being the best decision we made all night. Emily, our server, was nice, attentive, and took great care of us. The food was just as fresh and delicious as at the taco stand at the QNM. The purple corn tortillas were incredible, the chicken was hot, juicy, and flavorful, the steak was delicious, and I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed the mushroom taco. The restaurant has a fun, authentic Mexican vibe with colorful décor, a great playlist that really adds to the atmosphere, and it's honestly a cute spot if you want to snap a few photos. Everything was made fresh, and we'll definitely be back!

Im glad that I chose to stop by on a Sunday afternoon. I'm glad it wasn't super busy as there was only one waitstaff member handling everything. She was really nice, attentive, and knowledgeable about the entire menu. I went with a friend, and we started with the Ceviche de Cameron, which was fresh and flavorful. Since it was cold outside, I was craving something warm. I got the sopa de pollo, which was a large chicken soup. It hit the spot. I also tried one taco since that's what they specialize in here. It was so large and they gave it in a blue tortilla. I was so full by the end. I would definitely come back to try more from the menu.

Pretty much any and everything here is a hit so depending on your level of hunger the tacos, a sandwich, burrito, quesadilla, or nachos all make for good options. I'm a big fan of the alambre sandwich generously filled with chicken, al pastor, steak, green pepper, onions, and cheese and topped with chipotle mayo, avocado, and lettuce and the steak burrito smelled so good that I couldn't wait to get home and start on it so I took Queens Blvd all the way home and couldn't wait for red lights so I could savor another bite. A shining Sunnyside gem with top quality eats for late night cravings! Highly recommended!
