I've been staying in the Coarsegold area since May and in search of my favorite Mexican restaurant. So far this is it! I ordered the taco salad and it was delicious. I saw the verde chili verde wet chimichanga on the menu and asked the waiter if they could do it with the chile colorado. The waiter told us yes and it was one of the best I have ever had. Ordered the carne asada burrito and it was so big that I had a save half of it. It tasted great and was obviously fresh and hot. I came during the lunch rush and was still able to get my food pretty fast. There are TVs playing baseball and football which was nice to watch as I waited. I will definitely be back. read more

We came to Madera today pretty suddenly ( our son was out here practicing robotics and dislocated his shoulder! We ended up trying to find a place for dinner on short notice and Yelp came to our rescue This place is right next to the gas station ( for the win - we had to top it off). It has a cozy homey feel and the hostess and the servers were super friendly. They started us off with the free salsa and chips which were delish ( we asked them to hit us with more spice and they happily obliged). I got the Chile Relleno which was alright ( honestly I have had better) BUT the home made corn tortillas and the chicken fajitas sealed the deal for us - if we are ever in Madera again we will definitely hit up this place. I recently moved to Tesoro Viejo and I've been enjoying breakfasts at The Liberty Cafe and noticed this Mexican restaurant. Tonight, I came in by myself and ordered the 2-item plate with a cheese enchilada with green sauce and a crispy shredded beef taco with R & B. First, the chips and salsa came and they were awesome. Then my meal arrived looking beautiful and smelling great. The taste didn't disappoint. I'll be trying the chili rellano next time. Great family restaurant! read more

10/21/23 Getting breakfast for tomorrow! Ham breakfast burrito with egg whites & jalapeños added with hot sauce on the side ordered. The worker was kind and said it would be ready in 15 minutes. I went in to pick it up. Nice, little restaurant. Calm. Tv up on the wall. Lots of seating. Booths & tables. Safe & clean. Greeted and the order was almost ready. Took the family here tonight as I was craving cheese enchiladas. The place was practically empty so, we figured service would be prompt. It wasn't. We waited over 10 minutes to get our guacamole and chips, the server said, sorry I forgot as he delivered it. My enchiladas arrived and were just warm. Many Mexican restaurants deliver your food on a hot plate, this place doesn't. The enchiladas were not only luke warm but very bland. I suppose that's due to the sauce which was more like a ranchero sauce you'd find on a chile relleno not a smooth and tangy enchilada sauce. Super disappointing. First time here, Sis and family have been raving about this spot. I must say the staff are super friendly. I had a chance to interact with Jesus who was our waiter and Alex who was also working tonight, both were super friendly and attentive. Sis raved about the chimichanga but I got the burrito and soon regretted it. I ordered rice, beans and cheese with avocado inside. The burrito was okay but the contents were not hot and as I kept looking over at Sis and saw the steam coming from hers I was more and more disappointed. I was going to just accept it but Sis spoke up for me and Jesus was kind enough to bring me a chimichangas instead. This is the first spot I've come to that offers vegetarian chimichangas. I was pleased but one complaint is they do not have any mild salsa so I had to request pico de gallo. I also ordered the mini flautas (cheese) w/guacamole. Nothing major to write home about but the guac is DELISH! Bro-in~law ordered the green sauce carnitas enchiladas w/boiled beans and was very pleased. Food is authentic, tortillas better than most, and value great. They appear to do a lot of take out business, but we usually dine-in and always had a good experience. This place is good. But... it could use some better management in regards to service and being ready for everyday business. Also extra help to take phone orders and/ or to check on patrons. I know that keeping people employed and staying afloat financially is difficult these days (even if your employees maybe relatives). The only drawback is there could be more fillings (i.e. more onion and cilantro) and radishes are needed. As a birria expert I give it a strong 8 on the birria scale and a 9.4 on the all food scale.
