Javi's Mexican Restaurant The sign on the side says "authentic Mexican food" It's in the middle of town off one of the traffic circles and close to City Hall and across street from the Police Department. Javi's looks like a cool, old Mexican restaurant but once you step inside you'll find yourself in the middle of a Las Vegas style sports bar. Loud music and gigantic screens with various sports and a restaurant that wraps around the bar. There's booths along the walls but the rest is tall boy bar seating. Fortunately the menu is large and the food is good, though our chips were stale. The service is good too. No, actually the service was great. We loved the food too. Stopped in and was glad to find the fine Mexican food at low prices compared to San Jose. Lucia the waitress took care of us with a smile. The food was great and came out fast and hot. I had a simple meal of one crispy shredded beef taco, one crispy shredded chicken taco. Both tacos were tasty and I loved the way the shells were light and crisp! The salsa they serve had just the right amount of kick and I liked the texture. They also serve a dish of beans and cheese for dipping-what a treat! The waitstaff was pleasant and efficient on a Friday afternoon. I'll be back when traveling back and forth on 1-5! read more

Javi's is amazingly consistent. I have eaten at several of their locations from Modesto, Turlock, Oakdale and Patterson plus a few others over the years. The portions are excellent for the price and quality of the food they serve. It's nice knowing you can expect the same flavor without a lot of deviation. I have an above average appetite and I always leave with my appetite satisfied and then some. You can't go wrong with Javi's, they're a staple to the communities they serve. If I could leave a 4-1/2 star rating I would. Javi's is a Mexican Comfort Food restaurant, they excel at what they do. They have a clean upbeat atmosphere, the staff are attentive and courteous. The food, this time, was very disappointing. Absolutely flavorless and all proteins were overcooked. We have always enjoyed coming here, but I don't think we will return to this one. As for ambiance, none really. The music was so loud that our server could barely hear us. She finally had someone turn it down. It is NEVER good when they bring one person in the party their dinner and then wait another five minutes before bringing out the next one. There were three of us, so when she brought out the second dinner I asked her about the third one. I asked her if it was ready. She said it was, yet it still didn't come out immediately. Went here over a year ago and will never go back. Sure the plate is big and full of food if your hungry. It lacked flavor, what is it with Mexican restaurants that over power the food with cumin?! Atmosphere , service , food & drink correctness and food quality. Ok, the atmosphere, music was too loud our server had to have it turned to hear our orders. The food came out with long gaps between orders.,one drink order was wrong with no adjustments. The food order for guest #1 , fajitas (beef) had no seasoning and dry , guest #2 meat burrito was spicy but no preference was asked, guest #3 all grilled chicken was a combination of cooked ok and overcooked with very little seasoning. 5 stars for EXCELLENT customer service. Bryant and Dora took care of us at the bar. There was seating available in the dining room, but we took the two seats at the end of the bar. This location just opened so everthing is new and clean. Lot's of football memorabilia, mostly from the Raiders and 49'ers. Plenty of seating and room for large parties. Restrooms were clean and stocked. Plenty of parking on the street, there is a lot behind the location and neighboring streets. This is just what downtown needed. Started with a jalepeno margarita and a modelo on draft. The beer mug was so cold, beer was refreshing. My husband enjoyed the margarita, just enough fresh jalepeno flavor. Chips and salsa were brought out as well as a bean dip. Dora made sure our drinks were refilled and was patient while we decided on what to order. Bryant surprised us with a drink on the house, and we enjoyed the other patrons at the bar. I have to say, the menu is extra! There are so many choices, I am sure you can find something you like. They also have a kids menu, as well as senior (55+) specials. There are happy hour choices at the bar, I believe it said 12P-9PM for happy hour. My husband got 3 crispy beef tacos. He said they were good, was impressed with the shells, they didn't fall apart as he ate. I ordered the shrimp enchiladas with green sauce. The corn tortillas were great, green sauce had great tangy flavor with just a hint of heat. Both plates came with rice and beans. Big portions sizes and the plates came out hot and fresh. After a long day on Sunday, my wife and I decided to go to Javi's Mexican Restaurant in Patterson. We've tried it before and we really weren't too enthusiastic, but we were hungry and really nothing else in Patterson on Sunday night. The place was packed, and I have no problem for waiting, but they were understaffed. Felt bad for the girls. Ordering our food. I got the wrong order. I ordered enchiladas with green sauce, it came with red. I was so hungry. I didn't even complain cause I didn't wanna wait. Another half an hour to get my food. But I did get my food. It had absolutely no flavor. No salt on the table, and the meal was just bland. After only eating half of my dinner, I was presented with the bill of $116. They gave me somebody else else's dinner ticket. We had two meals at $22 each. When confronted about the overcharge, the young lady said that she would take care of it. She came back and said that it would take 2 to 3 business days to clear this up, off of a debit card. The refund would be $67 she told me. If there was any problems to come back and they would figure something out. I figured something out that night... Get into your cash drawer and give me $67 and we're all good. No manager in sight. I wanted to like Javi's and we give it a couple of chances. But we are done. I heard there's a great Mexican restaurant in Newman and Gustine. The one in Gustine is an old burger joint, but they've really up their game. Traveling through to Monterey we stopped and got food there. It's always to go, but it is well worth a stop. I think it's called Castillo's Taqueria. We will not go back to Patterson for.Javi's, that ship has sailed. #BuyerBeware. read more

Every single person I have talked to says they love the food, but I have been there a few times and the food always tastes "off". The chili verde tasted like it just came out of a can. Interesting what they did with the old Pizza Plus building. The seating is kind of strange but it works for the most part. They have great sports bar if that's your thing. Lots of tv's so everyone gets a good view. I've only tried the beef taquitos and they were delicious. I'd definitely recommend and will go back for sure. Service was great! Our server was a familiar face from another spot here in town so it made our experience even better. Overall I'd give it 4 stars. Only reason not 5 is the seating. Other than that go for it!
