Best Chicken Taco Salad I've ever had! I love the whole beans & shredded chicken. I get Ranch for my dressing! Very yummy!

First time we tried this we had a bad experience with the food being over cooked. The second time we ordered a simple Flautas meal and they gave us the incorrect items. Finally we tried to give this place a third chance not thinking anything and three of our meals had hairs. We try and not let on time ruin a good experience and forever tarnish the reputation and we never leave a bad review unless its this bad. Well today did it for us... one looks like a dog hair for sure and the other is a brown gold curly hair. We hope places like this take action and do better for the community because the food looks good but issues like this need to be addressed. read more

Very tasty and reasonably priced. The sauces are a "must try." Ordered as take out and I was extremely satisfied.

They are easily close to the same quality as the brick and mortar. Which is to say really good. You can order online or over the phone and they'll bring it directly to your car when you arrive. When I have a time constraint and want great new Mexican food this is the place I go. read more

I was planning a surprise party for my wife's 80th Birthday and the timing of the food was a huge part of being able to pull it off in the middle of the afternoon. These folks made everything simple. The food was all good and hot and supplied in trays that were perfect for putting in the oven to keep it all warm and delicious. The quantities were more than ample and all was very well prepared. Their food is good but I've had very little consistency in terms of pricing and preparation. On three different occasions I was charged a different amount for the same plate of food ranging from $8 to $11. To my knowledge they don't have any kind of daily special. Sometimes the sauces were incredibly spicy and sometimes they were completely bland. A few times my food was drowning in sauce and others there was barely any. (Again, this is for the same items on different occasions) The tacos could be filled to the brim or limp as a wet envelope. First time enjoying the patio at El Sombrero Express. Lovely overcast day is perfect for patio lunch. Really busy inside and several outside diners like us. Ordered rolled taco plate and El Sombrero tacos with beans n rice add on. Delicious The salsa there is on of my favorites: not too chunky, good heat and cilantro but not overpowered by garlic. The guac was slightly chunky, lightly spiced and yummy. Sour cream cooled down the heat enough for our corgi/doxie mix to try everything. Rolled tacos here are Always great. Recommend them anytime. Filled with seasoned beef and nicely crunchy but not over fried and brittle. It should be said the beans and rice here are one of the reasons we come back. Try them with the red chile carne, just that and a tortilla. Comfort food right there. The El Sombrero tacos are a soft corn tortilla street taco-type dish. Filled with very spicy chopped beef, onion, jalapeno, lettuce n cheese, these made for a great hot bite with the salsa on top. Bring on the sour cream. Had the bean and rice add on for small additional charge because, well, see above paragraph. More than we could finish as usual. Great leftovers in our future. Should have reviewed El Sombrero Express sooner as it is one our favorite quick food places. The combo plates are awesome and the tostadas compuestas are a regular choice for one of us. I recommend the veggie tacos too. They usually have agua frescas too so grab one. Call ahead and order for take out too. read more

Whats so express about this place? We wait 40 MINUTES for a plate of enchiladas and a couple of tacos. I expect this wait at a fancy restaurant not a place that markets itself as quick service. My bro and I wanted to order online first but they run their online orders through a Facebook app. I ain't making a transaction through a goddamn Facebook app. I park and he goes in and texts that its crazy busy. Whole place was full. I watch other people pull up and get bags of food within minutes. Order ahead get food ahead. I get it. Bro finally comes back and says the place filled up, emptied and then filled up again while he was in there. Shitty thing is is our food wasn't even warm. Just visited yesterday, during their first week open and I was very pleased. They had a substantial amount of the food that they carry at their other locations, and my wife and I were able to get it in under ten minutes. My El Sombrero tacos were delicious, and they were nice enough to roast some jalapenos and add them in the tacos at my request. My wife's rainbow enchiladas were equally good, if you like rolled enchiladas! I prefer flat enchiladas, and was happy to see that they carry those too! All and all, a great experience. It is nice to have a good quality Mexican restaurant (with the ability to do take-out) that is close to home! Welcome to the neighborhood, El Sombrero!! Note: They have drive-up spots that appear to be used for call-in orders. From what I could tell, they will bring the order directly out to your car. Food was rather slow and wasn't all that good. Tried it 2 times and both times it took around 30 minutes or more to get food. This is an "Express" version of their regular restaurant - I really don't get the significance of "Express" here. The chile con queso was like melted cheese wiz and wasn't all that great. The tacos were bland. Stuffed sopaipillas tasted like the meat was seasoned with Taco Bell seasoning. Just not that good. The steak tacos were more like fajitas with bell pepper and lots of onion - and tasted like it was seasoned with way too much pepper and some Italian spices. The nachos didn't have the queso sauce, barely any cheese at all. The "salsa" had an odd taste that seemed more Italian than anything. .. Bleh. Did I say overpriced? The above items all taken together cost over $70 (1 was 2 orders of tacos). read more

We have lived in Las Cruces over a year now, and we are still trying out Mexican restaurants. Two of us ordered the folded tacos. They were greasy, and the meat was gritty. The rice was very salty. The one who ordered the gorditas was satisfied with his food, but was not that impressed. We will stick with the other Mexican restaurants in the area and not go back. I originally rated this eatery in January, but yelp apparently wasn't fond of my initial write up so I will rate it again since I have eaten here at least once a week since my last yelp posting. :) I am thrilled to have an El Sombrero in this part of town. Even more convenient is the carside service offered. You can actually dine in the restaurant, walk in to pick up your order, or utilize carside pickup. What could be simpler than pulling in to a parking spot and staff coming out to you?! In addition to carside pickup, I have used the online ordering option. The menu is easy to navigate and when I found french fries not to be an option on a kid's meal, I mentioned it to management and the on line menu was corrected the same day. Service is great, and the food is delicious and consistent. I find El Sombrero salsa to be the best in town, without fail, and it is the same at Express as it is at the Cafe. The best part about Express? I can finally get El Sombrero on SUNDAYS! For those having get togethers, bulk items can also be ordered. This is truly my favorite restaurant in town and I would highly recommend it to anyone wanting to try authentic Southwestern Mexican food. You won't regret it! read more

This is my favorite to go style Mexican food restaurant in Las Cruces, while there is an area within the restaurant to eat on site I prefer to order to go and have it brought out to my car. The to go packaging is good quality and seals very well so you don't have to worry about any salsa/pasole leaking on the way home. The crispy chicken tacos with pleanty of salsa is my favorite meal here, the pasole is also AMAZING if you're in the mood for hot soup. My only complaint is that sometimes there isn't enough shredded cheese on the tacos so I usually as for extra. read more
