This place is very disappointing. As you drive by Los Angeles Avenue your curiosity is sparked by their colorful exterior and somewhat attractive but small location. As you walk in your ears are assaulted by the extremely overbearing loud music. The restaurant is small and uncomfortable. It is old and definitely needs upgrades. The bathrooms are horrible. I'm surprised that they were allowed to operate with that old plumbing fixtures in there. Sadly the worse part of this business is the food. The portions are small and the food is bland, not fresh. The dishes are definitely Mexican but poorly cooked and disappointing. It is obvious that fresh ingredients are not used in preparing the meals. You can sense it in the taste of the food. My kids didn't even like the stale chips that were brought to our table before ordering our meals. But since they were hungry they ate most of the chips from the small bowl and when we asked for another round of chips we were told rudely by the waitress that there would be an extra charge for a second chips bowl. This place is only suitable to visit if you are drunk and in need to find a place to yell with your drinking friends. This place has a really cool vibe, even with the strict rules imposed by dicator newsom. We always want to support small businesses and really wanted to like this place. Unfortunately this wasnt the case. There was literally no one there when we got there a few minutes later a family of 5 arrived and sat a couple of tables over. Finally the waitress begrudgingly took our order for one wet vegetable burrito and one bean and cheese burrito. simple. the food did come out super fast. the wet burrito was not wet, and they were both cold. Feels like home, where everyone knows your name (And it's not Cheers)! When we do take-out the kids want to walk in with us just to say hi or show them off something new of theirs (rock, hat, you know kids). We visit monthly and they are our first choice for family dining. the restaurant is what you make of it, dress up, dress down (it's not white linen but but boy do they roll out the red carpet with personal greetings, a bucket of beer and food that tastes better then home! We have enjoyed the taco cart, and it is the best in town however recently they were booked on a date as our event. We decided to do the take home catering and they Knocked it out of the park. I had more than 8 separate family members ask us where they were located, raving about the food. It was spot on as usual and tasted like "home". Authentic Mexican food....YES! Great service....HECK NO! Because of the latter, my last visit will be the last time I ever step into this establishment. From the moment my party and I walked in, something just wasn't right. I soon found this translated throughout my whole meal experience. First, the guy who seated us was talking on his cell phone. Fine. There's no problem being on your cell phone when customers walk in. However, it's bad when you continue engaging in the conversation behind the counter, just after placing menus on the table. He didn't even greet us, nor did he ask us what we want to drink. It took him 5-10 minutes before he asked about serving us drinks, and this was after he ended his phone conversation. Here's another example of bad service: My bf wanted to ask for some limes and called out several times to the employees there. There were three employees present - two men and a lady. All three were behind the counter, which our table was right next to. My bf called out FOUR TIMES, and for some reason, they continued to ignore him. I finally shouted TWICE for limes, to which got the lady's attention. She looked at me, turned around, and didn't even say anything. We did get our two slices of limes though. This is where El Taco de Mexico has earned one star: The soft-shell tacos are always delish! This time was no difference. I had two of the fish tacos and two of the shrimp tacos. What I love about this place is they include a heaping pile of meat (whatever it may be) in their tacos. Fish and shrimp are cooked just right, are juicy, and very flavorful! Lastly, this place is definitely a hole-in-the-wall joint. Though I am a huge germaphobe, I can sometimes stand hole-in-the-walls if their food and service are great. El Taco is mine. El Taco was first introduced to me at a school function (SSHS) with their mobile taco cart. They cater events like this, and I was really impressed by their carne street tacos. No one does it quite like they do, and I have built a real affinity for them ever since. When you park in the cramped hidden lot in the back, (you have to be driving East to even really see it) the manager or his family who staffs most of the restaurant greet you. They build a report and remember repeat customers. The place feels festive and always welcoming. Food is cheap and great. My favorite part is actually their red spicy salsa. My first visit on 8-30-22, the food and service was great. Love the cucumber water, refreshing! BUT my second visit on this date 9-3-22, unfortunately dropped my rating of the establishment. The food was still great, but the service not so satisfactory. Our table was ignored for most of the time we were there. Once we received our food, our waitress did not check up on us or ask if we needed refills on our beverages. It wasn't even busy! Only three booths were occupied, including ours! Two other tables were constantly attended to by her and had buckets of beer brought to their tables in a timely fashion. Even after my plate was cleared, she never asked to take away my plate until 20 minutes later! It was apparently clear my plate had no food on it and she still asked, "Are you finished?" I shouldn't let this visit deter me from coming back for the food, but today's experience with the service with the one waitress swayed me to give it an "average" score. read more

I had a bad experience with my first visit a couple of years back and decided to try again. No improvement. The taste is mediocre and the sides are al la carte. Who heard of a combination plate with no sides. One of the items ordered was a child's burrito that was the size of an egg roll. Bacon wrapped shrimp were chewy, seemed under cooked. Right now not feeling like it is going to be a good night, if you know what I mean. While I'm at it, expect to pay close to double what the Yelp menu has listed.
