This place has amazing menudo and pozole. My wife ordered the pozole mixto and I ordered the menudo con pata y granos. The salsa is amazing. I will definitely return for more! The staff is on point and very helpful. The only thing that was a bit lacking was the actual building set-up. You have to walk into one half of the restaurant to order your food, and then you have to walk out and walk back k to the second half of the restaurant to sit and eat. There's a window cut out in the wall separating the two halves of the restaurant. I don't know why they don't set up a staff member at this window to take orders. This way, people don't have to walk so much. Just have people walk into the second half of the restaurant, walk by that window, place their order, and then sit. read more

Ive been to the other locations and thought I would love this one as well however the carne asada on my tacos and torta was so chewy and filled with fat that i had to spit it out multiple times. What a beautiful experience I had today! I even got to meet Dona Ana's daughter herself! She is so nice and friendly and so welcoming! It was a perfect Mexican hospitality moment ! Music was great! Anyway had to get the goods to go because I was already over my lunch break and with that being said, the only thing I want to complain about is why in the world did I only get one salsa macha?? My friend kept telling me I must go and try! So when someone is insistent on a recommendation I try to make it happen on the sooner side so I don't forget. He recommended the queso taco plate. I ordered that and also the burrito with birria. The young girl at the register was so friendly and nice. She came around the counter and gave us all menus to look at. My sister wasn't going to order any food because she wasn't hungry, however when she walked in, the aroma of the food was so great she had to order! We all ordered our food to go. You can dine in if you like. They have a separate room with a separate door to go through for dining versus take out. They have a lot of staff so the food we orders to go was ready very promptly. I really enjoyed the tacos with the consume. The consume was very flavorful. In the past, some places don't flavor it enough, but this was tasty. The beans and rice that came with my plate were really seasoned well. I can see myself going back and ordering a huge carton of beans to go. Normally I have to add salsa or hot sauce but I didnt with theirs. I like that they added pickled onions as well. Those are one of my favorite sides when eating Mexican food. My burrito was really good too. I will definitely be ordering that again! It was big and hearty so I can get a few meals out of it. I really liked the red sauce they put on it. They offer green or red. I might try the green next time to see the difference, but the red was delicious. What a disappointment! I always like to support independent restaurants! Especially ones established by women! But unfortunately I cannot endorse this restaurant. I cannot endorse this restaurant as I feel it has the potential to get somebody sick. If a health inspector walked in, they would definitely be cited for some things that include the following: 1. The person who is serving food is also taking away dirty dishes and cleaning tables with cleaner. 2. Water provided to customers is sitting in a container next to chemicals. 3. Flies in the restaurant. Beyond sanitary issues, food is not cooked properly. I was looking forward to their mole and the food was uneditable due to meat undercooked. When I cut into the chicken, the meat was pink and bloody. We returned the food immediately. When we returned the food, nobody asked why or seemed concerned that the food was improperly cooked. The only thing we tried was their guacamole which they charged over 6 dollars for. The container was the size of a small side container. Plus we didn't eat after the first bite due to the horrible taste. The guacamole was solid, almost like it came out of a freezer. We should have returned it , but we were frustrated at this point. As for seating? The place was tight and busy! Not the kind of place that I want to relax at with my dinner. If I ever came back, I would take my food to go. With these health and quality concerns I would NOT come back! Too bad, I was really looking forward to this place. read more

I must confess, I've been here twice already. First time was a Tuesday afternoon sound 2 pm. They were busy but the line moved quickly. I had the chile relleno, with rice and beans. The pepper is stuffed with a Mexican style cheese, battered and fried to perfection. Then it's topped with this chunky salsa tomato sauce. The flavor on the sauce is amazing. Second time visiting we decided to dine in. You order on the left hand side of the restaurant, then you go find a table next door. Once seated, the server brings your drink and they will deliver your food when it's ready. I had the menudo. What I love about the menudo is its tripe, then you can add the pata (foot) and hominy. I know everyone makes it differently, so you have options to make it like grandma used to make. The dish has a deep rich red sauce, tons of tripe, pata, and hominy. It's a large bowl. Served with cilantro and onions on the side. Oregon and dried chili's are on the table. My daughter had the Al pastor tacos. The meat was crunchy, yet tender and seasoned perfectly. Heartening back to their food truck roots (and a building permit issue, thanks to Simi being Simi) you order in one place and then sit next door. It's a little confusing, but it works. But, once you sit and the servers bring your food, any inconvenience disappears with that first bite. It felt like walking into my own kitchen when I walked in for the first time... and I don't say that about ANYONES kitchen. The aroma! the sound! And the smiles! What a welcome to start my morning. The pozole here is AMAZING. I always say homemade is best and that nobody can beat my mom's or Tía Lupe's pozole, but this comes incredibly close. The flavors are vibrant, the spice level is perfect, and the portions are generous. Anyone who knows pozole knows how much time, care, and labor goes into making it right, and Doña Ana absolutely does it justice. I also tried the tacos and was pleasantly surprised. I've had pozole plenty of times, and this one easily comes in second only to the best bowl I've ever had, which was at a little spot in Mexico. That's how authentic and good it is. The food is fresh, flavorful, and not greasy at all. Some of the best tortillas I've ever had, and the refried beans are absolutely phenomenal. The service is just as good as the food, friendly, welcoming, and genuinely happy to have them here in Simi Valley. You can order to go, or order your food and sit next door in a cute little booth. I highly recommend trying them out. Their chorizo with eggs for breakfast is amazing, they open at 8 AM, and the pineapple agua fresca is out of this world. I had so much high hopes for this place . My husband got the pozole it was good . But the toppings on the side like the onion was already slimey and rotten . We told the waiter he took it and never gave us another side. We ordered 2 agua frescas a pineapple (took 10 mins to give us the drink ) and cucumber was ok. I ordered chilaquiles with meat . They brought them out with no meat and when I told the waiter not only did it take 10 mins to come back to ask for my receipt because "the cooks" said the order wasn't wrong . I still waited another 8 mins and literally got nothing till I just went for a refund. Almost 30 mins and got no food my husband and son were already done eating . I ordered 2 carne asada burritos from the simi valley location, but what I received were bean and cheese burritos with onions... almost no meat at all, and the meat it did have was very low quality, nervy, chewy and flavorless. I called to complain, the first person hung up but next time I spoke to Cindy who offered a replacement. The replacement was no better. You'd think I ordered bean and cheese burritos for the price of carne asada. This was the second menu item I try from this place... the menudo was nothing special, i've had better EVERYWHERE. Very pleased that they opened an authentic Mexican restaurant in Simi Valley. I ordered the birria plate, queso birria tacos and pozole. The tacos were very well cooked and the meat very tender. Same with my birria place. The rice and beans that come with the plate had good flavor which is very important. As I mentioned, the meat was cooked good and was very tender, but the consome could use more flavor, it lacked seasoning. The pozole was the star for me! It was amazing. Took me back to my little town in Mexico by the amazing taste of it. I do agree with a previous review. I hope they make adjustments in placing their sanitary items close to foods. I'd hate to have this place be shut down or degraded by a simp fix. It recently opened so be patient with the staff and delivery of food. Tried Pozole Carne which was actually pretty good for my first time having it and the serving size for this was good. I also got the 3 taco plate and had carne asada as my protein. The main issue I have is $16 for 3 street sized tacos, which comes with a very small serving of beans and rice is kind of crazy. I first came here two weeks ago, I got a chorizo breakfast burrito, my sister got the chicken verde Pozole. Both items exceeded expectations. So, I decided to go back today for dinner. The 3 stars are for breakfast/pozole. I got an asada burrito this time and the rice, beans and tortilla are good. But the asada is horribly fatty and full of gristle. I also ordered my burrito without onion and cilantro, which I know the cashier took note of because it was on my receipt, sadly the cook did not read the ticket. They definitely know how to prepare Mexican Food! On the other hand their service sucks, some of there people look like they want to be anywhere but working there! Their staff definitely needs to be trained on customer service. Simple things like asking you if you would like some water with your meal, or can we get you anything else. Mistakes were made around the order process, losing tickets! Condiments on the tables need to be cleaned and filled. I would recommend that they hire people who are well versed in customer service.
