This is a small family run business. They serve very authentic mexican food. I have been here a lot and really enjoy it. In general, they could use an influx of cash to do some upgrading/remodeling. And, you are likely to be served by a younger family member who isn't a 'professional' with years of experience waiting tables. Those would be the only downsides. What you get is very fresh food that is very authentic. Mexican food styles are all over the place and most are excellent and unique. So, I don't get into the "this is the best mexican ever" routine. El Taco Naco is definitely among the best authentic mexican food I've had. They have an extensive menu but I usually get three or four tacos with sides. So this is a place you go if you are not in too much of a rush. The staff is small and appears to be family owned. Waiting here is to be expected, however the food is quite impressive. The tortillas are handmade and the food always tastes fresh. This is not your everyday Mexican restaurant. They do not give free chips and salsa and Unfortunately have No Alcohol sales. Not a hole in the wall! I was expecting such based on the other reviews, but this place was amazing! Yeah, the building is old, but they keep it very clean inside. We were prepared to get our food to go, but it was so cozy in there and nice to get out of the bitter cold weather so we decided to stay. :) Pupusas? Hell yes. I didn't know whether or not I'd be provided with saurkraut, but I was and was very happy about it! These pupusas had mozzerella cheese in them - yum! Tacos? Another hell yes. They are only a dollar and VERY tasty! I got a chorizo and an asada. No chips and salsa, but the waitress brought us some chips and a cheesy bean dip that we added guac and hot sauce to. Mmm! Been here three times now and feel confident giving it a proper review. It's really good. Just be aware this is a really small hole in the wall place. Your basic Mexican food shack so don't go in expecting a full restaurant service. They are not catering to Caucasian-Americans as evidenced by the large specials board written only in Spanish. I'm ok with all that because the food is stellar, in the main. I've had three different tortas, all really good especially the barbacoa. Always loaded with meat and difficult to finish in one sitting. Pupusas are also excellent, hard to go wrong with melted cheese in a corn meal pocket. Comes with the traditional kraut and mild red sauce. The tamales were unbelievable, but they don't have them all the time. Just the right balance of corn masa to fillings for me, which is more meat than filling. They actually have some seasoning in the masa so it's not super bland. Cooked just right so parts of the masa are firm and chewy while still creamy next to the meat. The pork was good but the chicken was better as long as you can handle spicy. Chicken tacos were the only disappointment I've had there so far. Chicken was pretty dry. I like the fact that the same two older women have been back in the kitchen prepping away really food from scratch every time I've been in there. Either hand forming tamales or chopping vegetables for their stews. The food is as good as anything else I've had in the Atlanta area that does this kind of thing. I had a poor experience at the restaurant. It was my first time and I won't be going back. When I walked in, the woman was talking on the phone (she was on the phone the whole time I was there), and she kept the phone at her ear when she asked me a question. I thought she was still on the phone so I didn't answer. This appeared to annoy her. After delivering our meals, she left my table unattended for almost the whole time I was there. When I asked for more water after having an empty glass for 5 minutes, she brought me one, but not my guest who also had an empty glass. We had to ask for utensils, and when she finally brought the check, she wouldn't hand me my credit card back until I had signed the receipt. This made me feel like she thought I was a criminal and was going to run out. Frankly, the service was so poor, I almost wish I had! The food was just ok - nothing special. I won't go back. Went in for the first time & just got their regular tacos--pastor, asada & chorizo. The tortillas are handmade and served warm with a tiny bit of crispiness on the edge. The meat was good, if a bit greasy, and there was an ample amount of it. They top the tacos with the usual onion and cilantro and serve with a small piece of lime for each taco. Hot (red) and mild (green) sauces are available & were good. The tacos were a little more expensive than other local taquerias, but they have more meat, so it's a good trade. As I walked in the place felt cramped and dingy, the person at the counter seemed preoccupied (although I was the only one waiting for service) when she finally did acknowledge me she was dry and un friendly. I ordered Vegetarian Nachos which tasted bland and the beans were the worst. After I walked outside I realized cheese sauce was needed because the nachos looked dry. I went back in to ask for some cheese sauce and to my dismay, I was told they don't offer any kind of cheese sauces or dip. I left black out and then realized, I should have asked for salsa... so I went back in for a third time and asked if they had salsa. The person at the counter made me wait for what seemed like forever b4 acknowledging me (no one was up there but me AGAIN). Finally I asked her if I could have salsa. She asked how many I said 4 (2 reg. and 2 guacamole style), she got the salsa then proceeded to charge me for it! I stopped her and asked if at least one or two came free since I had just purchased the veggie nachos. She said yes, you get two free. I said then why are you ringing them all up? She shrugged took 2 off the bill and sat them on the counter ... no bag nothing, and went back to ignoring me. I asked for the manager and she replied that he was busy... I politely asked her to go get him please. Needless to say he came out and was worse than her ignoring my presence speaking in Spanish to a customer who had walked up behind me then disappeared back into the kitchen... never even acknowledged me... CRAZY. I told her the service was bad and she then began to back peddle saying he didn't speak English. Sigh I was very patient and even tempered during my entire visit... I called this restaurant for lunch delivery to my job which is 2.2 miles away. I gave them my work address and was told it would be delivered in 10 mins. Forty-five mins later, I get a call that the address is too far away. I indicated that I was only a short distance and had no means to pick up. I was told to hold and then I was hung up on. This is as good as it gets. I have visited many Mexican restaurants that claim to serve authentic Mexican food and it is the American version. This restaurant really does serve authentic Mexican food. The tacos come in two sizes, mini and regular. I order 4 mini tacos to see which one I like the best and they were all great. The burritos are a meal by itself and hugh. There is no space in these burritos. They make their own chips and serve them hot from the kitchen... OMG... they are plain but I put some hot sause and salt and I could have sat down and ate chips for dinner, they were so good. The Flautas are big and delicious. The nachos are for 4-6 persons and they give your a BIG plate. I love their sopes and cost is really cheap. I can eat two of the sopes, and chips and be under $8.00. This is a family business and it is one of the hidden gems of food in the Tucker area. After you visit this place, you will not want to go back to the American version of mexican food. Nice little hidden gem near downtown Tucker; very authentic mom and pop feel. The papusas are magical! Just think of a pancake-like batter filled with pork skin and cheese! All tacos are exceptionally authentic as it gets from pastor to carne asada to barbacoa to pollo, but if you can make the lengua tacos just as good as the rest then you know it's a great spot! El Taco Naco also offers a plethora of other options that makes you feel as if you were really at grandma's house in Tijuana. However for me, an order of a lengua taco, chicharon sope, and papusa would definitely be worthy enough to be considered one of my "last meal" choices. Highly recommend to anyone looking for that real Mexican feel and not that Taco Bell-esque vibe (nothing against Taco Bell, though). My husband and I ordered the four fried tacos. Mine was stuffed with chicken and his tacos were stuffed with soft beef. They were topped with lettuce, guacamole, fresh sour cream, and beans and rice on the side. We ordered two drinks: fresh mango juice and pineapple. Don't expect the juice to be super sweet.
