Monterrey Mexican Restaurant is a chain of restaurants primarily located in the southeast, with several metro Atlanta locations. Blending Mexican, regional American, and other Latino cultures as early as the 70s, many of the metro restaurants are some of the first Mexican restaurants to open in their respective ATL bubbles. All restaurants are known for their fajitas, margaritas, and use of fresh ingredients. Over the decades, I have regularly frequented the Tucker location (close to Northlake Mall). It is one of my go-to spots for celebrating, reconnecting, venting, and exhaling. I've laughed, argued, and cried sitting in one of the back right booths. Service is on par for a casual restaurant. If you drink, plan on spending a couple of hours. Their margaritas, sangrias, and sangritas are not for the once-in-a-blue-moon drinker. Over the years, I've developed a sensitivity to triple sec that keeps me from drinking non-craft margaritas. Fortunately, there are other tasty beverages on the menu (i.e., paloma). Monterrey has lunch specials that carry into the weekend. My go-to order is the fajitas. I also enjoy their enchiladas, chicken tacos, and chimichangas. I can eat 2 bowls of chips by myself with their amazing salsa and queso dips (I love mine with jalapeños and chorizo, but my order depends on who I am with). read more

I love this place! I live 25 min away but will drive all the way here despite there being other options closer to me. The food is great and the servers are incredible. I love the patio but the inside is great too. I love the cozy lighting. I always get tacos and they've all been great. Good portions too. Monterrey has been on a declining slope in service and food consistency for many years. About the only aspect that improved is the ambiance, which was the result of a dining room makeover, with nicer seating, wall decor, and better lighting. Unfortunately, this does not make up for the other problems. Once upon a time, Monterrey was the go-to place in the area for good quality Mexican food and great value. There was an excellent manager, too, but he's been gone at least 6 or 7 years. Since then, service has become very spotty (you can be forgotten for a long time), food is highly inconsistent (same entree is good one night and badly prepared two nights later), and the tables and floor can get kind of nasty. This is still a popular place due to location and relatively low prices but I wish ownership would take a look at the operation and make some major improvements. read more

We made reservations for at least 15 people from Emory our office is located nearby. When we got there at 12 they already had our tables setup but they were adjoining so one of my coworkers asked if they could change the tables, no problem at all they went above and beyond to accommodate us. The complimentary chips and salsa was good the waitress was quick to take our order of appetizers, drinks and our meals. It took a minute for some of the food to come out which I expected because we were a large party plus others were there as well. My peach Margarita was delicious. Once my food arrived I dove right in because I was hungry, let me say I was not disappointed it was delicious! My food was hot and just exactly what I ordered. Service- we only had one server but she did a great job accommodating all the different "spirits" . I would most definitely visit this restaurant again whenever I'm in the office working. read more

We went to Monterrey Mexican Restaurant for dinner. The waitress was very nice. I ordered Coke Zero. I drank my glass with 2/3 Coke Zero remaining. Our waitress came & brought me another Coke Zero. Excellent. We ordered Cheese Dip, Chorizo Street Tacos, Hard Shell Ground Beef Tacos & Taco Salad with Ground Beef. Everything was outstanding! We will definitely come back! read more

Where do I start? The chips were not fresh and broken little chips. The medium Cadillac marg was $19. I ask to have the shot of grand marnier that is the whole idea of a Cadillac on the side and they charged me $2.75. For what? . Salsa verde that tastes jarred was another $1.50. $88 for 2 ppl having one entree and one drink seems excessive for lunch. The food was ok but not excellent enough to come back. read more

HORRIBLE FOOD AND HORRIBLE SERVICE! STAY AWAY! This is the worst Mexican food I have ever had in my life. The food was just gross and not fit to eat. I ordered a chicken quesadilla and guacamole. The guacamole was green slime. It was obviously commercially prepared that came out of a container. The chicken in the quesadilla appeared to be canned chicken meat. It tasted awful. The refried beans were slop. The entire quesadilla was very soggy. The chips were stale and like cardboard. The service was also equally horrible. I waited 20 minutes for a waiter to take my order. When the gross food finally came, the waiter threw it on the table and ran without asking if there was anything else I needed. She never returned to my table after that, not to check and see how the food was or to ask if I needed anything else. She never even brought my check. I had to go to the register and tell them what I had. To make this dining nightmare even worse, the restroom was NASTY! I felt sick to my stomach after I left. STAY AWAY! DO NOT GO TO MONTERREY'S IN TUCKER. THEIR FOOD IS ONLY FIT FOR THE GARBAGE CAN! They certainly do not deserve even one star. IMO, Their star rating is in the negative numbers! read more

This place always seems busy but we get good friendly service and the food is reasonably priced. We love Taco Tuesday.

The first time was good. The second time we went with our neighbors, we had issues with the wait staff serving us. We came for an early dinner and ordered alcoholic drinks along with the regular menu. He just took our order, dropped it on the table, and when we asked for something else, he acted as though we were disturbing him. We started to get up and leave the food, but we were hungry. Seems like the service is on a declining slope from prior visits. The food was OK, not as delicious as La Parrilla's. This could be a more popular place based on their location and competitive meal prices. Attentive service & good food are a necessity. read more

I love Monterreys Mexican restaurant! There are multiple locations around the Atlanta area to visit. They are not all the same but they are mostly all good!! The staff at this location is very polite and friendly. They constantly check on guests to ensure they are providing great service. Lots of parking available but can get full on a Friday night or weekend. There is inside dining and a little outdoor patio area which has heaters during the winter time. I wish I could give a 0. They tried to give me old food. I ordered the fajitas with steak, shrimp, and chicken. I swear that was old judt loke the decor... old. It didn't even come on the small cast iron skillet!! I ordered a FROZEN margarita... it was wayered down and far from frozen. I sent everything back! The server brought back another margarita or, more than likely, the same one and looked like what appeared to be generally ale in the glass. It was sent back. Better the El Del Taco; oh my goodness! The jumbo margaritas are 27ounces of pure deliciousness, and they do not skimp on the alcohol! Steak Fajitas were plentiful: they do not charge extra for additional veggies to be added. Queso I would order a large ($8.00), but a decent size to serve four adults. They do a complimentary birthday shot and hat, with song; parking was not stressful at all. This is my new favorite restaurant in Doraville, so will return. read more

Where do I start. The service was terrible and the food yikes... we had rib eye and was so bland. You would think Mexican flavorful...nope! We had to ask for everything and still never got our salsa. The staff hanging over our booth chatting about hating being there, yes I am gringo but I know the language. They were just hanging over our booth while we were eating and staring at us...so unconfortable. I even said hey you guys standing there you might as well take a seat... and the comment I got in return was sorry we can't we have another hour to work. Are you kidding me? I was being facitious. Them hanging there and still did not bother to get our salsa! Our server yawning, he was bad I had to keep on the hunt to ask for water etc and so was my first experience was also the last. It was just bad and I would not go back. The steamed vegi was from a frozen bag. My soup was ok but overpriced @8.25 not even offering tortillas or cilantro...this place is so gringo and so unauthentic! On top of it you would think a Mexican restaurant would have margarita special but they were 12 bucks! No way Jose! I went down the road to QT and got a bottle of margaritas for 10 bucks! My husband and I have been going to Monterey's for years! The food is always really good...however, ever since Saul left, a couple of years ago...we cannot get a decent server! Simply amazing. I came for the first time last week and have been thinking of the food since! The hostess was so sweet and accommodating- took my to go order and made sure everything was perfect. Arroz con Pollo and, I had no idea, it's Taco Tuesday! Tacos (beef/shredded chicken) are under 2 bucks! The beef is what I got before & loved it so I got it again...loved it again! I saw my waitress I had before and she said hello, thank you for coming back! The restaurant is brightly colored and just right, not an over the top, gaudy American-Mexican décor restaurant. The place was buzzing, but not too loud. The parking lot is really big but it was packed! I am accustomed to eating authentic Mexican food. Thought I would try this place out. Ordered beef taquitos and chorqueso. There was about 2 inches of grease floating on top of the queso. See photo. The guys inside tried to convince me this was normal. Who is going to consume 2 inches of grease? How is that normal? The taquitos had absolutely no flavor, whatsoever. Worse than frozen. Go to La Parilla or anywhere other than this dirty, dingy place. A total waste of money. read more

I've come here a couple of times with my mom after we stumbled across this little gem in my neighborhood. I LOVE the margaritas at this place. They are huge and they pack a punch. I usually get the house margarita while mother likes the mango. For appetizers, waitstaff usually brings out a bowl of chips and salsa, but we also ask for a side of quest dip. It's pretty good. Nothing extraordinary but good all the same. We both get fajitas. I like the shrimp, steak and chicken which is always way too much for me to eat. Next time, I will try the tacos! Also, another mention is that this place stays pretty full which says a lot about the quality of the restaurant and the service you receive. read more

I was not greeted by anyone when I entered the restaurant, but the couple that came in behind me were greeted. They had to tell them that I entered before them and that they needed to help me first. I then placed a to-go order. When I came back in to get my food again no one said anything to me. I asked one of the many people standing around if that was my order sitting in front. One of them looked at the receipt, and walked away without replying. I guess they sensed that I was about to reach my breaking point when someone asked to see my receipt. Of course, it was my order. I tried Monterrey for the first time yesterday. I stopped in for the lunch specials & I ordered a burrito, taco and rice and beans. The food was good. It was exactly what you would expect. Nothing stands out, but it's prepared and cooked well. The location itself has a well designed eating area as it allows the waiters & staff to view the entire restaurant and assess patrons needs in one glance. The one complaint I will address is the men's bathroom... It was disgusting. The staff could have been a bit more friendly & welcoming as well. 3 stars. read more

Never to Return. The food was simply awful. Refried beans heated in the microwave to point where edges in bowl are hardened & burnt. Flavorless chicken fajita quesadilla - they seemed to use baked chicken without seasoning and horrible street tacos flavored only with the burnt grill crust potentially from lack of cleaning.
