Las Tortas Locas is a chain of nine fast-casual restaurants in Metro-Atlanta featuring quality Mexican food. BuHi features two in Atlanta (near Clairmont Road) and in Chamblee. It has a nice seating area and many patrons dine in. There is a great salsa/condiment bar in the center of the restaurant for people with varying taste buds, although it is mostly catered to heat seekers. We ordered the Torta Mexicana, Carne Asada Taco, Taco Al Pastor, Chicken Burrito, and a Huracha. I personally recommend the tortas, as they are all savory and comforting. The roll was toasted and tasty on its own, and there was an appropriate amount of meats, vegetables, chihuahua cheese, and avocado. I am not a fan of avocado or onions not grilled to death, but both added value to the torta. I also love creamy white cheese. The torta is flavorful without a trip to the salsa bar. The tacos were good, but in my opinion, they were standard fare for BuHi. I ordered the Taco Al Pastor with white cheese, which didn't add to the overall flavor in the way that it did for the torta. I found the burrito lacking in depth of flavor and probably would not personally order it again. I appreciate the burrito's wrapping, which makes it easy to be hand held and enjoyed without minimal mess. The huracha had the perfect amount of sweetness, and I highly recommend it to combat the heat level of the salsa bar. I am looking forward to trying more of the tortas, including the Toluqueña and Norteña.

What makes good COVID-19 pandemic takeout food? Tortas. They pack and travel well, and they're tasty to boot. Las Tortas Locas gets a solid four stars out of me. This is a local Mexican restaurant chain specializing in tortas (Mexican sandwiches) that are consistently delicious. They serve other Mexican food too like tacos, burritos, and quesadillas. The portions are filling, the prices are affordable, and orders (made fresh to order) are served up reasonably quick. At the time of writing this review, there are nine Las Tortas Locas locations in metro Atlanta. This is location #11 (I believe locations #5 and #9 closed). You can find it on Buford Highway in "Buford Highway Plaza," the small little strip mall with Lee's Bakery, Com Vietnamese Grill Restaurant, Mi Pueblo Latin supermarket, and a Chevron gas station. It opened in early 2015 and replaced El Senor Taco (https://bit.ly/2wb1LED), a small taco shop I was a fan of. This is a worthy successor. There's another Las Tortas Locas location that's part of the Buford Highway corridor just a couple miles up the road in Chamblee: Las Tortas Locas #3 on Chamblee Tucker Road at Buford Highway (https://bit.ly/3bJtZp8). I've eaten at a few Las Tortas Locas locations now and can say I'm a fan. These restaurants aren't very big, but not tiny either. I guesstimate this location can seat about 30-40 customers at a mixture of tables and booths with a couple mounted TVs for everyone's viewing pleasure. The setup is fast-casual with digital menu displays and an open kitchen. During my visit to pick up dinner last week, the kitchen had a trompo with a healthy amount of fresh, delicious-looking al pastor meat (rotating spit-grilled marinated pork). It looked mouthwatering. There's a self-serve salsa bar and, if dining in, you bus your own table. Of course, with this pandemic going on right now, the salsa bar is closed and dine-in prohibited. Currently, booths are blocked off and all chairs have been turned upside down and placed atop tables. When ordering, be sure to check out the paper menus they have posted next to the counter. There's a $6.49 breakfast menu and other specials advertised that you won't find online nor on the digital menu boards. Breakfast items include chilaquiles (fried corn tortillas topped with red or green salsa and various toppings), huevos rancheros, huevos divorciados (like huevos rancheros but each egg has a different sauce, hence the "divorce"), huevos con chorizo, breakfast burritos, and molletes (kind of like the Mexican version of Italian bruschetta). Specials include menudo (Mexican spicy cow stomach soup), available Friday-Sunday (only $5.50 each), papas bravas (sort of like fries), and fish tacos. The regular menu features over two dozen kinds of tortas, all priced at $6.59. This is certainly a good value when you consider the sandwich sizes, ingredients, and taste/quality. Outside of tortas, offerings include tacos (eight kinds) priced at $1.99 each (except for the lengua/tongue taco, that's $2.99), "gringas" quesadillas ($5.19 each), burritos ($5.79-6.59 each), huaraches ($5.69 each), consome ($3.99 each), flautas ($6.09 each), and sides like chips and cheese dip ($4.79). Pretty decent selection. To drink, they have aguas frescas behind the counter -- horchata, jamaica, tamarindo, and mango ($1.99-2.25 each) and serve Jarritos brand Mexican soda. Finally, they have a lunch menu with $5.99 taco combos and tacos salads, chicken taquitos ($5.79), and pambazo (a simple sandwich made with red pambazo bread, $4.99). I picked up a couple carnitas (pork chunks) tacos for a friend at $1.99 each. Las Tortas Locas' tacos are authentic, served hot off the grill on two soft corn flour tortillas with chopped cilantro and white onion. Another friend picked up some carne asada (grilled steak) tacos (same price, $1.99 each) and queso fundido y chips (cheese dip and chips) at the aforementioned $4.79. I ordered the following tortas: * Cubana - ham, smoked ham, sausage, scrambled egg, white cheese, lettuce, tomato, avocado, jalapeno * Nortena torta - milanesa (breaded steak), Chihuahua and fresh white cheeses, lettuce, tomato, avocado, jalapeno * Mexicana torta - carne asada (grilled steak), ham, fresh white cheese, lettuce, tomato, avocado, jalapeno All three tortas were yummy. If I had to pick a favorite, it would probably be the Nortena torta. I've had it as well at the Chamblee location and it's one I keep coming back to. The combination of milanesa and cheeses is just so satisfying. The Cubana torta is one that I've ordered at various restaurants around town. It's fun and filling because it comes with a lot of different ingredients like hot dog. As for the Mexicana torta, it's great too. Savory and comforting. My favorite ingredients in all the tortas were the avocado and fresh white cheese. All tortas were neatly wrapped in paper and conveniently cut in half which made eating them easy and relatively mess-free. The staff was polite.

Las Tortas Locas is a fast food style Mexican restaurant, which, so far, has not Americanized many of it's menu items. This is probably because most of the customers who come here are Hispanic. This Las Tortas Locas location is off of Buford Highway, but isn't easily seen from the road because it's tucked at the far end of a small strip mall and partially hidden by a gas station. The free parking lot is small and shared by a few small businesses, and, at times, it could be a challenge to find parking. Don't expect anything highfalutin here. It's straight forward and simple Mexican food here, so don't expect free chips. Service is generally good here, although the person taking orders at the front counter can slow things down by getting chatty whenever there is a Spanish speaker ordering. Customers order at the front counter and then find a seat at any of the available tables or booths. This place doesn't have a big dining area inside, and there isn't anywhere to sit outside, so you may have to order your food to go if there isn't a place for you to sit. It doesn't take the kitchen staff very long to make your food (unless they're completely slammed with lots of take-out orders), and someone at the pickup counter will call out your number in Spanish. I absolutely love the giant beef flautas (flautas gigantes de carne) at Las Tortas Locas, and that is exactly what I ordered. Giant flautas look like a taquito, or rolled taco, only they are a little wider and certainly a lot longer. The outside is made with multiple corn tortillas, and I ordered mine with beef filling. The order comes with shredded lettuce, avocado, tomato, queso crema, onions and shredded cheeses. It's basically two giant flautas covered with a nice sized side salad. It also came with a small cup each of red hot sauce and green hot sauce. For me, the red hot sauce is a lot spicier, so that was my go-to, only I had to ask for two more cups so that I could dip my flautas in them for every bite. Mmmmm! I also got a lime Jarritos, which took the spicy hot sauce sting out of my mouth for a second or two. I also suggest getting the horchata, a sweetened drink made with rice and cinnamon for the same mouth-cooling effect. Prices are reasonable, and the food is delicious. I'm a fan!

    Torta Texana

This place is a hole in the wall (albeit with a massive billboard pointing Buford Highway visitors in the right direction). It's authentic, quick, and delicious. The Texana torta was fresh and well balanced, with a strong enough consistency to be filling without being too messy. The horchata was second to none in Atlanta, and the whole meal was less than 15$, even with some street tacos thrown in! The variety of salsas in the salsa bar was a great bonus, and all of them were really fresh and delicious. I would highly recommend this spot.

I had to think a bit about whether this was a 3 star or 4 star, but wound up rounding up because of price, which is very reasonable. The tacos, I'd say the fixings are fresh, and overall they seemed authentic - corn tortillas (not my personal preference), well constructed. One of the three tacos I tried, which I think was the carnitas (could've been Al Pastor), I enjoyed more than the other two, but I may just like carnitas as a rule. They were overall a little bland, necessitating contributions from the salsa bar. The Horchata was a bit too sweet, which overpowered the spices that usually define it. There was a lot of turnover, a modest line, and the place was on the dirty side. All that said, the food was a good value. The parking was ample, though there is a gas station somehow shoved in the middle of the lot. I'd go back, but only if I was passing by - not make a separate trip - and I might go with a burrito instead of tacos, so as to have my preferred type of tortilla.

You can find this location of Las Tortas Locas at 4005 Buford Hwy Ste H, Atlanta, GA 30345 in Chamblee - this is the shopping center to the north and behind the Chevron Station near the top of the hill across from Plaza Fiesta. Parking can be rather competitive as the very popular Lee's Bakery AND Co'm are in the same series of shops. You may need to park towards the front (on the Lee's side) and walk a bit. I've visited several Las Tortas Locas, this one used to be the very good El Senor Taco but has since converted to this very authentic Mexican chain. My favorite sandwich here (Tortas is Latino for sandwich) is the Campesina (grilled steak, Mexican sausage and peppers) but on this occasion I met up with my Buford Highway Restaurant Crawl group so we explored more of the menu. The great thing about going with a group of adventuresome diners is that everyone is willing to explore and share so you can sample a bigger portion of the menu. Las Tortas did not disappoint... We ordered: * 3-Tacos - one each of Asada (grilled steak), Pastor (marinated spicy pork) and Pollo (grilled chicken) - these were all yummy, served in a traditional steamed double soft corn tortilla. Las Tortas has an awesome spicy green sauce on their salsa bar - it pretty much goes great on anything. * Loca Salad (chicken) - Romain lettuce, charbroiled chicken or steak, tortilla strips, pico de gallo salsa, tomatoes, cheese and olives (left off the olives) with a side of rice. I thought this good and surprisingly filling - it's also a great value, as there's a lot of food in the basket. * Tortas Campesina - grilled steak, Mexican sausage and peppers, with a side of fries - this was delicious as always * Tortas Texana - grilled steak, bacon, bell pepper and white cheese You order at the bar and then wait for you number to be called in Spanish - you might want to brush up on your numbers as you can be missed when the place is busy - ask my how I know? Service here is good but nominal - you basically get what you need. The food here is super cheap - you can basically order two items for about the cost of a single meal in most places. The only negative is the parking - in comparison with the other Las Tortas Locas this is one of the better in regards to flavors, service and condition (the worst I've experienced is the one near the corner of Chamblee-Tucker and Shallowford Rd). Fish taco, carne asada, and al pastor tacos

After a failed attempt to eat at Lee's Bakery (since everyone and their mothers decided to also get pho on the cold wet day), we ventured into Las Tortas, where I made sure to promote the fish tacos to everyone. Las Tortas Locas is like another Don Pedro, but smaller and somewhat less organized. Food came out of order, for whatever reason, I'm not sure. My favorite tacos are hands down the fish tacos and the carne asada. The fish tacos came out inconsistently, with different garnish and some without the same sauce. However, my fish taco came out perfectly. The steak was perfectly seasoned and cooked. I also had the al pastor, which paled in comparison to the fish and steak. There is a good sized sauce bar with condiments and sides for your tacos and Tortas. I noticed red and green sauces, which I decided to try. Note that the green sauce is not the avocado cream hot sauce that it appears to be - it is actually really freaking hot because it's jalapeño. The red sauce is very tasty, though and goes well on any red meat taco. I'm glad we chose Las Tortas over Lee's Bakery - cheaper, takes credit card at any amount, little to no wait for seating, and some fresh tasting ingredients. I'm glad there are other locations around Atlanta, which makes for easy access to fish tacos at any place, any time.

Carne Asada, Barbacoa and Chirizo tacos

If you want to get out of your comfort zone and enjoy some authentic Mexican tacos this is your place. After a day of bowling, we decided an early, easy dinner was needed. It is in a very small shopping plaza on Buford Highway. We both ordered 3 tacos, no sides nothing fancy. We each chose the Barbacoa which a flavored steamed steak, Carne Asada (always try those) hubby a Chorizo and myself Pollo (chicken). The staff were pleasant. Food is prepared fresh and is picked up at the counter yourself. Extremely tasty, authentic Mexican tacos and at 1.99 each other worth every bite. Barbacoa had a nice flavorful and mouthfeel that was infused with cinnamon and other spices simply topped with onions and cilantro and double corn tortillas, Pollo was topped with cheese and lettuce. Meat was a bit more dry but it is chicken. I added a lot of salsa to this one. My favorite was the Carne Asada again a simple top of onions and cilantro. We tried all four salsas and our favorite was an avocado, tomatillo blend. Be warned the reds are hot, really hot. They have a good menu, Tortas are obviously on there but I am trying to avoid bread. Lots of sides to choose from as well and a salsa bar with other items. We didn't see anyone make it eat those and since most signs were in Spanish we didn't try them. So far, best tacos in Atlanta for us but I want to try others and find that 5 star. This could be it, we will see if I update.

Taco pastor with added pineapple and cheese Green pepper crema from topping bar

Wow couldn't make up my mind. Got the torta asada Sandwich and taco pastor with pineapple and onions and cheese as extra. Best taco that I ever had!!!! They have a topping bar where I added hot peppers and a green crema sauce. Awesome!!!! The asada sandwich was very good but taco was much better. It was an abundance of flavors This place is great because you can order individual tacos. You are not forced to order three like most chains require. Very hard to find but so worth it. Couldn't have done it without yelp !!!!

Discovered this gem today while running an errand nearby. I was craving tacos for taco Tuesday, so did a quick search of tacos nearby. Las Tortas Locas popped up and after peeking at the menu it sounded exactly what I was looking for. It is located in the same strip as the popular Lees Bakery and Com. I thought about getting some tacos and a bowl of pho...next time! The menu offers a variety of tortas, tacos, burritos, quesadillas and specialty plates. They have a spot of chicken and pork going in the kitchen, so I knew this was going to be good! I was there for tacos, but because the prices were awesome I also got a burrito : ) The chicken had great flavor and was hot and juicy! I love how they use fresh corn tortillas and double them up for the tacos. The burritos are also a good size and come with rice and beans, what a surprise! They had a salsa bar with fresh salsa and veggies to help yourself to. I'm happy to learn that they have 2 other locations. This might my new taco spot. That chicken is definitively something to crave. 3 chicken tacos and a chicken burrito loco for $12 and some change. What a deal!

Really good torta. We split the "Mexicano", it was really good. Can't wait to go back for much more; taquitos, tacos and burritos. Also, very clean and efficient.

Fives across the board…read more Casi Cielo is incredible. The space is warm and beautiful without trying too hard, and the crowd was hip and well dressed. Definitely a place to be seen and eat well. There's a parking garage but it was full when we got there, so we did valet, which was surprisingly affordable. Service was wonderful. Our server was attentive, helpful, and super knowledgeable about the menu. As for the food, we got: Aguachile de Pescado, which was insane. Super fresh, bright, citrusy, ceviche-like with perfect texture. I would go back just for that. The Hamachi was clean and bright. That avocado sauce tied everything together and gave it some depth without overpowering the fish. The Pork Belly Tostadas were crispy and rich with that smooth avocado mousse and sweet mango salsa balancing it out perfectly. Finally, the bone marrow with steak... so good. I had seen pictures of it before I came and it did not disappoint. The steak was incredibly tender. They bring blue corn tortillas and suggest making a taco with the marrow, steak, and avocado. It's great that way. But honestly, the marrow and steak stand perfectly on their own. Whole experience was excellent. Easily one of my favorite spots in the city now.

Right when we walked in, the staff complained to us that we hadn't called ahead to have a "smaller, special menu" crafted for a large party. To make matters worse, they loudly announced to the whole table right off rip that they wouldn't split checks separately--only an even split. It felt incredibly rude, lazy, and unwelcoming. The irony is that the large group size wasn't even an issue; we staggered our arrivals and the patio was completely empty. The kicker- my brother in law ended up paying the whole tab at the end anyways! so all of that initial laziness & nastiness for NOTHING! Throughout the night, the service felt incredibly rushed and stressed. While we were still eating our appetizers, the busser was aggressively trying to clear our plates because the mains were coming. Our server was very short with us the entire time, which was confusing because the restaurant didn't even have a stressful vibe. She recommended a main dish to me that I really didn't care for, though I will say the salsa was unique and probably the best part of the meal. Shoutout to the one staff member who was actually friendly, but overall, this is not the kind of place where you leave feeling like you had a nice restaurant experience- at least I personally didn't.. Too bad we didn't just go to C&S next door which we always love. Regardless tho, my sister had a blast, but that's entirely because she has a wonderful crew of great friends, not because of Casi Cielo.

Here's a breakdown of what we got each time. 1st visit - El Rey Del Taco Parrillada It's meant to be shared with two people, and comes with a pound of beef ribs, your choice of chicken or al pastor meat, six shrimp wrapped in bacon, with melted cheese and chorizo, plus tortillas and charro beans. It was just as delicious as it sounds. 2nd visit - Tacos The pastor con queso and the shrimp al pastor with cheese, onions, and al pastor sauce. You're welcome. 3rd visit - Fajitas Fajitas Texanas, with steak chicken and shrimp. There are 7 different combinations of sides that you can get. We got white rice, salad, and charro beans. This can also be shared, which my wife and I did. Speaking of the charro beans, they have the best beans I have ever had. For drinks I got the supreme regular mango margarita. My wife got strawberry. Both great. Service Food came out fast, but other than that the service was a little slow. Our waitress was nice, but it did seem that she forgot about us for a little while. The food was so good that I forgave it, plus at the end of the day I got everything I needed. Verdict If you're looking for amazing food and drinks, this is absolutely the place to get it. It just might end up being your favorite too! Until next time!
