A friend of mine insisted we try this place after he saw their sign. "What could be better than a place called 'The Taco'?? Come on!!" There wasn't anything on the menu that resembled what you see at most taco stands. There was a beef option with some sauce, a ground beef choice, and chicken with sauce. We ordered the beef and chicken, and got a ground beef hard shell taco. The two soft tacos were gross. The meat was just ok and drowned in weird sauce that neither of us recognized. Also, they gave us a few packets of something called "Heinz Taco Sauce." wtf? Seriously?? My friend said their homemade salsa was pretty good, but I didn't feel like trying it by then. I had the Chorizo and Egg Breakfast Burrito the other day and was surprised at how good it was. It wasn't the best but better than i expected. Usually Chorizo is greasy and oily but this one was not. They need to fire all of the young workers here they play too much in the drive thru not listening and just giving us whatever they want too. I asked for an enchilada dinner I get home and it's a burrito with bean and cheese rice all over it. I came to get a refund and this rude girl working the drive thru wants to argue about it instead of giving me my money back. I told her I just came to get my money back I don't want to argue. She tells me I asked you but you was on your phone. I told her I said it at the drive thru speaker how can you see me on the phone. Blaming me instead of returning my money. I then told her I wasn't going to complain or leave a review but now I am because of that fonky attitude! I am so disappointed eating here. It seem to be a landmark of San Pedro's eating spots. Just yesterday was my first time eating here and they screwed up my order after repeating my order. I should preface this by letting everyone know that there had been a 13-14 year gap between my visits to El Taco. I am a native of San Pedro, and I remember eating here fairly often. I was a pretty picky eater as a kid, so bean and cheese burritos were the norm as far as me venturing out in my food choices. That being said, when I ate there recently, I decided to go with what I knew of the place, considering that I really enjoyed it all those years prior. I don't know if recipes changed, or if it was my pallet (I'm definitely leaning towards the recipe), but I found the food to be bland and lacking in the flavor department. The beans were very dry and tasted like they came from a can, and the tortilla was also dry and not as soft as you would expect from a mexican restaurant. I've had a similar experience at an El Taco here in Phoenix. I had no idea any other El Tacos existed, so I had to give the one here a try, and was disappointed (as, come to find after my visit to the original (to me) location, the restaurant's food tasted identical). I had no idea my beloved San Pedro El Taco would be equally disappointing. All that being said, I'm not disavowing this place. I would give it another shot and choose something else off the menu. I just came here since I had a craving for a bean and cheese burrito ( which is a staple of my weekly diet) and I choose here since it has a drive through. I decided to grab a few of their el taco specials tacos for me and my wife. The bean and cheese was okay, but their famous taco was filled with what tasted like gristle. Like leftover meat that has been reheated 10 times over the last week and mixed with rice to give it more substance. I've had street tacos in TJ that tasted way better and that were more probably healthier then this. I literally had to spit out the first bite after giving it a taste( i should have known by the smell) it was grotesque. Have always came to this location since I was about 4 years old. Always get the same thing since, a Combo quesadilla! So good with red and green sauce and little chunks of meat. It just gushes out hen you bite into it because they always put so much into it. Really great, especially if your getting their taquitos too. Its definitely not authentic mexican like many say, but it is genuinely good. I don't like their bean and cheese cause it is very bland, but if you get it order with extra cheese and red sauce. Its a very old school spot, many locals come here, and many visiting also. Tiny parking, but trust me you'll always find people sitting in their cars eating El Taco in the lot. El Taco in San Pedro's food is actually half way decent. Too bad their morning and early afternoon staff are not customer focused. I use to frequent this place a few times a week, mainly to order a breakfast burrito. There is a couple who run the place in the morning. The man said the lady cook is his wife, not sure if that is true or not. English is their second language, so if you go through the drive thru, chances are your order will be incorrect. I tolerated his rudeness only because this place is right down the street from my home. Well, recently, I had enough. I won't be back. A few weeks ago, I went by at 7:45AM and pulled up to the drive thru menu. "Hello, I would like to order a breakfast burrito. On the burrito, I ONLY want eggs, bacon and potatoes, nothing else please." About five minutes later, the lady cook opens the window to the drive thru. "You did not tell me to add cheese and I did. Now I have to make it all over again". Window SLAM. Two minutes later, the man opens up the window. "You did not tell her to hold the cheese and by the way, look at the hours. We open at 8AM". First of all I keep reading what a ghetto experience everyone had...I come from Lennox so this is Palos Verde to us. I'm picky when it comes to Mexican food cus nothings better than momma's....But this place will definetly have me coming back.
