Hmmm... let's see. Zero stars if I could. Epically horrible. First, I've patronized this location multiple times prior. It's a small joint, basically takeout and delivery. Has typically been decent. This last was absolute $hit. Lemme elaborate... Wifey got the classic chicken salad w/balsamic dressing. Far from classic. Loaded with iceberg lettuce and I mean loaded. The least expensive inclusion in a salad. That said, while it is supposed to come with cucumber slices, it did!!! All 3 of them. Lettuce was obviously not entirely fresh as there were soggy limp leaves throughout. The grilled chicken was dry and tomato slices were about an inch thick. The tomatoes and dressing were the best part of the salad. Wifey refused to eat the vast majority of it as thoughts of salmonella and psyclosporiasis began to dance through our heads... On to my "Maria's Salad Burrito w/shrimp" and an avocado "extra". (For a mere $3.50 extra I might add). When they advertise "with shrimp" understand they are being literal. One effing shrimp in the entire burrito. ONE. O.N.E.. ONE... As for the avocado, it too was virtually non existent. Maybe 3 little fingernail sized pieces. This was honestly one of the worst burrito experiences I've had in Southern California, and that's saying a lot considering how many great Mexican spots we have here. I ordered two shrimp burritos and two steak burritos and specifically called ahead to make sure the steak was fire-grilled, not the rubbery, boiled type of meat some places use. The employee assured me it was fire grilled "steak" That turned out to be completely false. Shrimp burritos: Good luck finding the shrimp. Mine was basically a tortilla full of spicy rice, bell peppers, and onions. I kept digging through it wondering where the shrimp were. Steak burritos: Even worse. The steak was exactly what I asked them NOT to give me; chewy, gummy, low-quality beef that was nearly impossible to chew. Definitely not fire-grilled steak. It tasted like the cheapest meat they could find. To make things worse, the burritos were overloaded with spicy rice and peppers, while the actual protein probably made up 20% of the filling at best. Instead of quality ingredients I got a tortilla stuffed with rice and a few scraps of meat. I wouldn't even serve this to dogs. Extremely disappointing and absolute waste of $60 read more

I don't know what went wrong? I ordered one crunchy chicken taco, chicken enchilada combo plate and a shredded marinated chicken burrito. So I ate the taco first to run the risk of it getting soggy from the doordash delivery. It was okay. Now the burrito.... so it was combined with beans and rice . Everything was mushed together and there was NO taste/flavor with the chicken. The beans had absolutely no flavor and the rice, well it was just rice. Almost $65 wasted on tasteless entrees. My wife's enchiladas were bland and covered with alot of sauce and cheese. But even that couldn't help the meal. First time picking up food last night. The El Padrino burrito, which was swimming in their red sauce was a tragedy. That much sauce isn't an issue, but it's hands down the worst totally bland ZERO spiced sauce I've ever had in my life. Milk has more flavor than that red sauce, which made a carnitas burrito sad. If this simple red sauce is the best this restaurant can do, run, don't walk to somewhere else. read more

I first visited this mom & pop Mexican spot on a recommendation from my barber, Naz, (who happens to work a couple doors down from Pronto's). His advice definitely came through - as I've been a Pronto's regular for years now! The taquitos (loaded with guac and beans), burritos (both dry & wet), chicken soup, and even the salad (steak & black beans) are all winners. The restaurant offers both indoor and outdoor seating - and if you go with the latter, you'll have a lovely painted mural of nostalgic American history to gaze over while you dine. Nice mood and atmosphere! Pro tip: In spite of this winning lineup of Mexican staples, make sure that you don't overlook the fresh-squeezed juices at Pronto's! The food is good. It has taste and is clearly fresh made. The "crispy tacos" are not crispy. They are grilled fried, not deep fried so there is NO crisp. The marinated chicken has very little taste. They put veggies in their rice, I am not a fan. The albondigas soup I paid almost $8 for, was a one cup portion with no broth, 3 meatballs and lots of rice. On 10-9-25 I placed an order for delivery from PRONTOS on Western, I ordered El Padrino Burrito with pork chile verde and two large Jamaica Drinks. The issued I had was with the drinks, they forgot to put the safety stickers they put across the drinks and I had to TOSS THEM AWAY! So, for that reason WAS NOT SAFE To DRINK ! Of course couldn't enjoy my food without the DRINKS! I called the Restaurant and asked to speak with Manager or Owner, I was told they weren't there And that the owner- she hardly comes in. At that point I left my name and phone number and asked to have the owner call me! To this day I have not heard from her. You would think she would have the courtesy of calling me back! It's expensive and the steak was awful. Dry, old meat that was like eating tree bark. I was constipated for 2 days because the steak was so old and dry. They could've at least warmed it up or tried to make it delicious by cooking it a little bit but it was a bad experience. The bean, cheese and rice burrito was good. Aren't the best restaurants those family owned and operated ones you stumble in on by chance when you are out of town? Work takes me out of the city sometimes and I often give myself the objective of finding and trying some new place and yesterday? Well, I was pleasantly surprised by the family owned and run Mexican restaurant PRONTO'S inconspicuously set amidst other restaurants in a mart facade in San Pedro... I walk in and am greeted by one of the proprietors, Marylou, who patiently answers questions about the expansive menu hovering over the cash register. Pronto's serves up traditional Mexican food like burritos but also seems to have distinguished themselves by their "Combination Plates" and "Mexican Favorites." It's 11 AM so I'm hankering for breakfast and opt for the huevos rancheros plate, what looks to be a deal at $10.49 before tax. Marylou comps me a cup of coffee as she can tell I'm not one of her regulars I notice streaming in as the lunch shift begins and I take a table in their comfortable and airy dining room. What arrives is, well, you can see the pictures, but it's a festive and colorful plate of eggs covered in their house made sauce and cheese, served with breakfast potatoes, rice and beans. I use flour tortillas and chosen salsas from their regularly maintained salsa bar (see picture) and set to eating a savory breakfast of huevos rancheros. This is good stuff, the eggs prepared just right, soft but not too runny in the middle, and the sauce just has that twang of reduced tomatoes and is not overly seasoned or jazzed up. They let you do that with your salsa choices. The food is great and I eat every bite, love the hot green salsa! The potatoes are tasty and well cooked but were not warm, as if they were set off to the side and were just ladled onto the plate before the dish was prepped or delivered my way. A minor complaint. Time and time again I find some of the best restaurants are those that fly under the radar, ones that are family owned and operated, exist somewhere off the beaten path and, as they pass savings onto their regular clientele, they survive the challenges that face the restaurant business and prosper decade after decade. Pronto's, established in 1984, is just such a restaurant and it's a little joy to eat there. read more

I've been coming here since I was a kid. The food is consistently great. The service is always perfect. That being said, they had a customer - a very rude old man today. He was impatient and inconsiderate, making the girl at the register cry multiple times. The response of the staff was amazing, they didn't further engage with the rude man, nor did they talk bad about him. They rallied around their own, let her take a well needed breather and break.. and continued on with excellent service with a smile. It was nice to see the community and to see them take care of their coworker. I hope that girl who cried knows she is loved and to not pay attention to a holes like that old man!! read more

Just want to update since my last post was during the pandemic when the salsa bar was gone. This is hands down my favorite Mexican food in San Pedro/RPV area. When I crave Mexican food this is what I'm craving. I get the california burrito with chicken or carnitas, wet with green sauce. It is So good and it feeds me for 2 meals. I love their fresh pico de gallo too. The green sauce is so flavorful and delicious. If you like cheesecake, grab a slice for dessert. It's not something I would usually order from a Mexican restaurant, but wow!!! read more

It's hit or miss. A couple of the menu items are good, most are mediocre. Another star deduction for indifferent standoffish service from some of the servers. Then there's the random hours, which don't match what's published, so it's not surprising for them to be closed even if you show up an hour before closing.
