Came here for Happy Hour with a large group of friends, and we took over the place. The space was small and cozy with colorful, cheerful decor with royal blue and yellow color schemes, and books all around. I ordered the Italian Sandwich from the Happy Hour menu, which was $12. This also came with fries, which was a nice surprise. The Italian sandwich consisted of salame piccante, bresaola, mortadella, prosciutto cotto, tomato, fresh mozzarella, basil, as well as olive oil. The bread was nice and soft, while the ingredients were well seasoned and came together beautifully. Fries were thick cut and satisfyingly crunchy, full of potato goodness. Service was good, but a little slow. There was only 1 person taking orders and he was very friendly and was able to provide separate checks, which was impressive. Prices were reasonable as well, even on the regular menu. I would definitely return to try the Steak, Branzino Del Meditarraneo, and the El Tanque Platter (to be shared with 3-4 people).

Michael and Renny were great hosts. This place has amazing food and the service was good even though we had a very large group reservation. The drinks were on point - my favorite was the Mezcal Negroni. The decor was warm with intimate lighting. They feature the coolest bathroom in all of Dyckman. Highly recommended for all occasions.

I tried this place for the first time. The service was good. Attentive. I tried the Pizza Bianca it was yummy. I wish it was a little hotter but it was good. I tried the bread pudding dessert w ice cream it was delicious there was a nice crowd and music playing but you were still able to have a conversation. El Tanque is located in Inwood and has mainly italian food with a Dominican twist. They do weekday happy hour till 7pm in restaurant, 9pm in the bar on food and drink. I had two pizzas which were light and delicious and a sangria and limoncello spritz I will make sure to order again. While the bartender wasn't aware of our 16-person reservation, he let on no surprise or annoyance. Instead, he jumped into action and came up with a plan even if it meant him having to juggle 16 people's orders on his own. He was never rude or let on any kind of attitude. He was patient as people reviewed the menu and truly made us all feel taken care of. We ended up staying long past happy hour. He knew what each person had and even let us all pay separately! Unheard of! I have sent friends since then and they all have commented on how hard the staff works and how much they clearly want to please. My friend is librarian and fell in love with the decor. There are so many small touches you can tell the owners took their time to make this neighborhood restaurant just right. It is one of my new favorites and I can't wait to go back! Michael at the bar was also our server and did a great job handling my group. THANK YOU, Michael and the other staff that later came to help!

I loved everything about our visit to El Tanque Trattoria Bar. From their food, the drinks and their amazing service, thank you to our host Adonis for that. I had their famous Spaghetti Carbonara and my husband had the Penne A La Vodka, both dishes were incredible. We both had "La Boheme" cocktail and let me tell you, it was superb . We also tried their Creme Brulee and it was perfect with just the right amount of sweetness to it. I will definitely return to try their Dominican Power Pizza that looks so delicious. I 100% recommend this restaurant.

Such a fun and unique restaurant concept. Dominican and Italian food somehow work perfectly together here. The atmosphere is beautiful with moody lighting, colorful decor, and a gorgeous bar area. Loved the Italian-style shrimp with tostones, cheesy eggplant parm, four formaggi pizza, and squid ink pasta with shrimp. The Jungle Bird cocktail was great, and it was my first time trying an orange spritz which I highly recommend. Also don't skip dessert -- the warm bread pudding with chocolate ice cream was so good. Definitely one of the more unique spots I've tried in upper Manhattan. read more

This place is easy to miss when walking by, but such a gem in Inwood! The food is soooooo good and the portions are generous. Their food happy hour is $9 which is perfect for stopping by when i'm too lazy to cook, haha. From the super cute books on the ceiling to the awesome bartender Michael which makes the vibe even more chill, this place is a must! It's a perfect, fancy enough for a sexy date and relaxed enough for a casual pop in. read more

I can't say enough good things about this place! Michael made our night with his amazing service and top-notch drinks--he really knows how to make you feel welcome and taken care of. The chef is just as impressive--the food is absolutely delicious, with a perfect blend of Italian and Dominican flavors that's hard to find anywhere else. Their happy hour is a gem in the neighborhood: not only are the drinks affordable, but they also have a great variety of food options (which is rare around here!). Literally stumbled across this place and beyond happy that I did! I was in the verge of being "HANGRY" ! I Was seated and served quickly. I also asked the the bartender Michael to whip me up something and it was mouth watering. I ordered a brushetta and a skirt steak and it didn't even NEED a steak knife. It was juicy and tender. Everything tasted fresh and cooked with good ingredients. I inhaled the food and drinks quickly so no pictures! This will definitely be my go place from now on!! Found this jewel of restaurant on a Saturday night. Hostess and waitress seated us right away and took our drink orders. Ordered a pizza, Mexican hamburger and side mixed green salad. I recently dined at "El Tanque", with a group of friends and the experience exceeded my expectations. The ambiance was inviting and the atmosphere was very intimate. The service was impeccable and not once we had to get our server's attention because he was always paying attention to our table and offering recommendations. I must say that my favorite part was the food. The presentation of the dishes were a truly feast for the eyes and portions were generous. Ps. I love to visit restaurants and share my opinion with the world. It was my first time visiting El Tanque, and I loved everything from the welcoming staff to the fantastic (hood portion) food. If you're looking for a place where you will get the best food and drinks, this is the place for you! I love going to places where they value the opinions and suggestions of the customer. The recommendations provided were also great. The waitress, Aimee, was AMAZING! She was very attentive and constantly checked in to make sure everyone was well. Lastly, I'll say that the ambiance was everything and more. If you don't mind enjoying great food, incredible drinks, and a reminder of Italy, you've got to visit! PS. I went here for my birthday with my family. The food so good. The service needs some tweaking because I'm a vegetarian and my cousin a vegan. They didn't know what that was and kept offering us meats and other things like that. I came to this restaurant at the invite of a friend of mine. The ambiance was lively even for a Thursday night and their food was delicious! It is a mix of Dominican and Italian flavors which truly impressed! I also had a few of their drinks and they had this watermelon drink that was so refreshing def my fave of the night! After a few years, I moved to a smaller firm with Southern roots, where the culture was more humane, the work gave me greater autonomy, and I produced some of the strongest results of my career, even within an industry still governed by fear, greed, and status. Inside, the red booths, low lighting, generous spacing, and hand-painted monkey murals made lunch feel ceremonial without becoming stiff. The room was timeless and handsome, with polished service, quality food, and the subtle assurance of a place where you could be proud to bring someone important. I especially remember sitting in one of those booths with two mentors, each only a few years older than I was and therefore close enough in vintage to feel relatable, trustworthy, and genuinely within reach. One had entered my life after I left the larger firm and helped me understand an earlier chapter that had also ended abruptly and, at the time, felt deeply unfair; the other had guided me through the smaller firm where I finally found a more sustainable way to work. Over that long lunch, I introduced them, we discussed several promising ideas, and for a moment my career seemed to have reached the point where relationships, experience, and opportunity were finally converging. One of those ideas consumed an extraordinary amount of my time and energy, and I believed it might become the foundation of my next chapter. Instead, the arrangement eventually turned on me, the role I thought I had earned never materialized, and the business itself sputtered. My professional life, financial footing, and pride all collapsed just as COVID was beginning. Then Monkey Bar closed in 2020, which made the ending feel almost unnervingly complete: the restaurant, the city, and the version of myself built around New York finance all went dark at once. For years, I experienced that ending as devastating and unfair; now I can see it as wisdom delivered through an unnecessarily rough process. The restaurant's later revival by a Chicago hospitality group feels fitting because it still honors tradition and ceremony while allowing the old forms to evolve into something healthier, looser, and more current. I have not been back since that lunch, but a return now would feel like visiting the museum of my past, not reclaiming a life that asked too much, gave too little, and finally lost its hold on me. As someone whose palate is split 50/50 between Western and Chinese cuisine, I could manage only five bites at most. If you have a palate that prefers 100% Chinese food, proceed with caution on this dish. Friends ordered sides of mac & cheese and mashed potatoes. These are dishes originally meant for low-income Americans to fill up on cheaply; there's no limit to how good they can be, but also no floor to how bad they can get. Both were on par with the average quality found in upscale restaurants. Honestly, these are two dishes I would never order myself. To sum up: the atmosphere was great. It's also hard to get a reservation; the place was packed when we had lunch at 2 PM. Aside from that monkey bread, I didn't feel like anything else justified the price or offered something you couldn't find elsewhere. I don't quite get the hype. Perhaps I just didn't order the right dishes; maybe next time I'll try the burger and the steak.

I recently visited El Tanque Trattoria Bar, and I had a really enjoyable experience. The mix of Italian and Dominican flavors makes this place stand out, and every dish we tried was full of flavor. My favorites were the Prosciutto Crudo e Rucola Pizza, Dominican Power Pizza, Lemon Pasta, Rigatoni alla Bolognese, and the Dominican Empanadas. Everything tasted fresh, and the cocktails were just as good. The staff was friendly, and the atmosphere made the whole experience even better.
