My daughter Brandy and I were looking for a place to have lunch in the Inwood section of Manhattan and she chose this restaurant. Iiana, was the only waitress at this time and she had several other tables to wait on, yet she didn't fail to check and see how everything was and if we needed anything else. Brandy's dish was the chicken scampi with linguine. The menu says shrimp scampi, but she requested chicken instead. I had chicken francaise with linguine, seasoned with garlic and oil. Both dishes were good. I frequent my visits in the Dyckman strips for years now, but for whatever reason never stepped foot into Il Sole. Went on a Friday night after work to catch the happy hour which consisted of $6 Sangria, Margaritas, and I believe some beers. Me and my friend had the sangria to kick off then later on the passion fruit margarita. We sat at the bar and was serviced by the AMAZING bartender Gabby! We were soo impressed with her service as it's rate to find within the surrounding establishments. She was very attentive to us and made us feel comfortable throughout our whole stay. We did order some appetizers which hit the spot too. Overall, great customer service, good ambiance although small, but cute. Good for small groups and music not too loud that allows for conversation. I would definitely go back and recommend to others. I look forward trying some of the entrees. read more

It's 90 degrees today and I wanted to try a restaurant that I've never tried before. I wanted something light but filling and fresh. I saw some of the dishes that people were enjoying and while dining at il Sole and thought why not?! The outdoor seating on Dyckman was PACKED but I saw a table opening up and swooped right in the menu had two "QR" codes one for Il Sole (which is Italian, I thought it was seafood) and the other is Sa Tacos, so again, why not?? Let's do a lil' of both!! I ordered Tinga tacos as a starter and the grilled salmon for an entrée with a side of sautéed spinach and mashed potatoes. Everything was amazing!!! Exceeded expectations. I really like the ambiance of Il Sole, i really liked this place to be honest, so I will explain why I didn't give 5 stars belowwwww... Me, my partner, my twin and her partner joined my cousin and his girl here last Saturday night (daylight savings night unfortunately). First thing I have to say, this is probably one of the safest restaurants around Dyckman. The owner walks around through the night to make sure everything is perfect for everyone one, which is awesome! While we were on line to go into Il Sole, another guy ahead of us on the line seemed to be a little too drunk and started an argument with the bouncer. Of course, the bouncer didn't let him in and explained to all of us that he's responsible for letting people in and couldn't let in a person who seems to be intoxicated prior to the entry plus a problem maker. I felt really good by his actions. We didn't order food due to we had gotten there around 1 am and we had come out of a restaurant. Because the time was to advance an hour ahead when it marked 2, the waitress advised for us to order two pitchers of Margaritas instead of one because once 3 hits, they usually don't sell more drinks. We did as she said. We had a lot of fun. Drinks were LOADED!!! Really strong but really really good!!! Now, the reason I gave it 4 stars although I had a great experience here is while our waitress was being polite enough to serve all our drinks. She was also grabbing our straws by the top, that part that you put in your mouth to be exact. I tried to grab mine because my sister and me were disgusted by the fact that she was doing that and she kind of confronted me and told me she was the waitress and she was the one giving the straws to all of us. I couldn't tell her she was doing wrong cause she had this "I know it all" attitude but didn't enjoy watching her do that to us and can't imagine how others feel if she does that to others as well. I had Mac and cheese lobster and my friends got ravioli lobster and penne alla vodka everything came out delicious. The one thing I would say is that some of our foods were brought out first then the others. And the service was not as fast but they only had one girl working multiple tables. I came here for happy hour because I've heard from multiple friends that this is the best place to be. It was a nice Tuesday evening( 7pm) and my girlfriend and I came to have a dinner date. The happy hour menu immediately caught my eye. Sangria for $5? Pizza for $10? Like how could I not order anything else ! I opted for a white sangria which was very refreshing, and I ordered the ricotta pizza. The pizza was cooked to perfection and the cheese was really good. My friend ordered sliders and fries which was also really good. Both orders arrived in a timely manner. The overall ambiance is very uptown, if you've never been to dyckman expect loud music playing in the background. If you're not for music then I wouldn't recommend this neighborhood. I happen to love dyckman especially in the summer time ! Lastly I want to add that if you're a hookah smoker I suggest coming here. The hookah is only $20! Our hookah stayed lit for a little over an hour and was prepared very well, the hookah didn't have that horrible after taste and was very smooth. I would most definitely come back again with friends. I have nothing but wonderful things to say about this place! We had our son's first birthday party here last week-- everything was amazing! The food, the space, and the staff. The food was outrageous!! Our guests raved about it. Everything from the house salad, to the penne alla vodka, to the chicken scarpariello was so well flavored and seasoned. Sandra was so incredibly accommodating with the menu; I am gluten free and have several food allergies, but she was able to have everything prepared to meet my needs (the whole spread was made GF!). In fact, we had come there for dinner one night a couple weeks before the party to try the food, and she literally had one of the staff go to the store to buy the GF pasta and flour for me. I was so touched. Also, some of our guests were vegan, and they were able to prepare a special dish for them that was not included on our menu, which was totally above and beyond. We had the whole restaurant to ourselves, which was really nice and perfect for our party size (we had 50 guests including children). They put away any equipment/wires that were not necessary for the party to make it more children-friendly, which was really nice. The location is also excellent-- being so close to the HH parkway and Harlem River Drive made it super convenient for our guests coming from NJ and LI. Sandra also helped us out with finding parking for our large group, which was awesome. And last but not least, the staff was so kind and courteous; all of our guests commented on how nice everyone was, and how well everyone worked together as a team. This restaurant has so much potential. Service during the day is great...but in the evening/night...not so much. Decor is beautiful. All white. Bathrooms are always clean. Every time I've gone there was a dj playing reggaeton & hip hop/reggae. They offer hookah in the evenings ($30 cash only). On Tuesdays they have an all night happy hour starting at noon I believe...it gets incredibly packed. Ok now on to the food. Eggplant rollatini is what I usually get here, adding shrimp sometimes. Very good. Cheese ravioli - so good! Salmon- pretty basic grilled salmon & slighty overcooked. Penne ala vodka with shrimp- Ok Cod with mash & asparagus- fish was definitely overcooked...so dry, mashed potatoes needed salt, asparagus were...asparagus. This place has gone down hill. Before pandemic we ordered often. It was delicious at some point, not sure if they've changed chef or have new owners, because its definitely not authentic Italian at least it's not anymore. It's salty and seems canned or bottled tomato sauce. Mozzarella cheese on garlic bread is sprinkled on and never have we ever had it served like this. We received our penne allá vodka over creamed didn't even taste nothing like it but my husband was hungry and ate what he could. I know good food and this is not the first time ordering from here we've tried ordering several times in the past year and still are disappointed. We have even tried dining there and yet service and food have never reached our expectations. Even though I have recently been just reviewing we're personally big critics on food good or bad. I give this place 5 stars because of the workers. Staff should be retrained and taught how to greet patrons, bring water when asked and check in on their tables from time to time. I came in on a Saturday early afternoon, the waitress who attended our table was just busy speaking to the other employees by the bar. I had to "disturb" her chat at the bar, and ask her after 20-25 mins waiting for my entrée, if she can go check on the status. Guess what? She came right out with my plate, meaning my plate must have been sitting back there but the staff was too busy chatting to notice. I've been here during the day, early evening and during late nights. The best time to get good service is during the day and early evening. When we arrived to get seated, I noticed a sign that says: "2 Hour Limit". I never seen a sign like that at a restaurant. It gave me an uninviting vibe. The sign will give bad business, because Dyckman is mostly latino family oriented. If I bring my 6 cousins and 6 aunts to come eat at this place, we will need more than 2 hours to eat, chat, and enjoy our time. The service DURING THE DAY, is good. My cousin suggested for us to come here for Sunday brunch because their food and drinks were good. Our brunch included an appetizer, entree and I believe the drinks were unlimited for 1.5 hours. First off their brunch is all off, hardly any egg options. It's mostly pasta and burgers; I got the burger which was dry and not tasty at all. The drinks were all watered down and I decided to stop drinking them since I was getting full of water with them. They're probably popular for dinner because I will never return here for brunch. It should've been a sign when there was only 2 other tables with people in there.
