We recently moved to the area from phx and have been looking for a good Mexican spot. We were overjoyed by our experience at El Tapatio. Authentic, incredible service, and a huge, detailed menu with a great selection of vegetarian and special dishes. What stood out was how busy it was in here, but how fast and efficient the service was. Every single worker was busting their butt but with smiles on their faces. The portions are HUGE! I got the tapatio enchiladas which are 3 different enchiladas and it was delicious. My husband got the Mexican Molcajete, and it was incredible as well, and again, huge portions! We had a 10/10 experience at this restaurant and cannot wait to come back.

The food and drinks were very passable albeit refreshing after a long drive from Boise. That being said I would have expected much more reasonable pricing given the quality. The beer in Marg was the highlight and I think that's the 9 hour drive talking. Lowering my review to 1 star. The owner claimed that they are not the restaurant I visited as they are in Flagstaff. I'm very much aware they are in Flagstaff and I included a picture inside the restaurant but he still has the nerve to deny it. Very distinct artwork. Odd that the self proclaimed manager doesn't recognize the inside of his own restaurant.

Carne asada was very good. Portion were huge, and all food was very good. It's really smoky in the restaurant due to the kitchen being open, but overall we really enjoyed it. Service was friendly as well.

Okay, this place is legit authentic Mexican food honestly the best I've had in Arizona. And the best part? They have white queso, which I haven't been able to find anywhere on the West Coast! The staff is super friendly and the place is clean. 10/10 recommend.

OMG. Where to start... the service was TOO LEGIT TO QUIT and our waiter had a wonderful whistle when he was delivering the FAJITAS!!! My wife and I got the carne asada taco plate and the child verde. Both were delicious and made us feel fuzzy inside. Good margs, good music, staff, and great vibes all around 10/10 will come again (hey! That rhymed ).

Such an amazing find!! I had never seen my fajitas set on fire table side before!! I was worried it would be burned but nope....it was absolutely perfect!! It was so fun seeing this show around us during our dinner too!! This is a must stop if you are in Flagstaff or traveling through!! The cups and salsa were delicious too!! It seemed to be one of the few busy places and I completely understand why.

This was a quick stop and wow!! Truly one of the best Mexican restaurants I have been to. It was easily the best service I've received in probably the last year. The food was outstanding! The chimichanga à la crema sauce was easily one of my favorite dishes I've had in a long time. The cheese dip was in a moderate sized dish, larger than most places I've been in the past.

We were sat at a large comfortable booth upon entering. The tables and chairs are hand painted and sealed. It makes for a nice atmosphere. Service was prompt and our Cadillac margaritas came out quickly along with complimentary chips and salsa. The shrimp cocktail was huge and had tons of shrimp in it. It was delicious. Hubby had the Quesabirria tacos and I had a mix of three different tacos. They were all tasty. The broth with the birria was excellent. Our waiter didn't hurry us and let us finish our margaritas without trying to rush us. So glad we chose El Tapatio for our Mexican food dining experience in Flagstaff.

I was traveling through Arizona and heard that this place was very delicious. So I decided to stop by. I ordered the Enchilada trio. It was really tasty. The sauces each had their own unique delicious and bold flavors. I accompanied it with a refreshing and creamy horchata drink. It had the right amount of cinnamon and sweetness in it. This Mexican restaurant was definitely not watered down as some are. Everything was authentic and good quality. I would definitely order this again. The service was very good. And the place inside is very lively and welcoming. I highly recommend this place when you find yourself in Flagstaff, Arizona craving Mexican food. You will not be disappointed.

On our last day in Flagstaff my husband and I decided to try this place. I'm vegetarian and gluten intolerant and found that I could get the fajitas. Upon entering we were greeted warmly by 2 people. Our waiter was also friendly and attentive. My husband ordered the carne asada lunch platter. He LOVED his meal. The portion of meat was small but according to him "delicious". I ordered the fajitas with corn tortillas. It came with the usual rice and beans. Assuming they were cooked with animal fat I didn't eat them. Sadly, my fajitas were just okay. I'm used to fajitas being peppers and onions but not this time. It was broccoli, mushrooms, carrots and some green vegetable I didn't recognize. There was a scant amount of peppers and onion. The seasoning was good and for a vegetarian I do eat lots of vegetables but I was a little disappointed. They are clearly doing something right because the place was pretty full. This is not a restaurant I would recommend if you are plant based or gluten intolerant. Next time we're in Flagstaff my husband will return and get the dinner portion. read more

This is a review of the new location near Bashas off Humphreys.. Disappointing trio combo deep fried chile relleno was not good and over fried didn't realize it even was going to be fried or I would've not gotten that. The chicken Chalupa dry, the shell it was served in tasted greasy no flavor, pork enchilada dry. The pork is chunky instead of shredded no cheese , rice and beans average nothing special. Stopped by on our last day of vacationing in the Flagstaff area. We found this gem on Yelp. I ordered the Chili Verde Burrito w/rice & beans plate, my hubby ordered the Burrito de la Casa (it's huge!) We both were pleasantly filled with expectations and delicious, culinary perfection. I'm giving 'El Tapatio 6' five 's for the following: 1. Food (I felt like I was eating food from my abuelita' house!) 2. Service (great wait-staff, attentive) 3. Ambiance/Decor (colorful) 4. We were up at NAU again to drop the girls off for Labor Day weekend and wanted a meal together before we headed back down to Phoenix. We felt like some authentic Mexican food and saw this spot on Route 66. When we walked in, this restaurant was bustling with activity and had lots of families at tables enjoying meals. The doors were propped open and it was a little smoky. I think some fajitas or something more serious may have caught on fire. The Coconino County fair was going on and we saw a lot of carnival prizes. We wondered if we would be seated anytime soon. We were seated immediately I was surprised at how friendly and accommodating the service was from the start. The smoke cleared quickly and so did any doubts I had about this place. The moment I was completely won over was when my daughter ordered a coffee. The wait staff here has a very good sense of humor and I'll leave it at that. If you order a coffee, you might get lucky. They have some nice classics on the menu, which is easy to read, big, and laminated. My menu was very clean. They also bring out complementary chips, salsa, and pickled cabbage. Surprisingly the salsa brought out to the table was just a tad spicy. Usually restaurants have a basic tomato salsa. This was a nice surprise. I was in an enchilada mood and they had plenty to choose from. We ordered: - Unsweetened Ice Tea - Coffee (best coffee ordering experience!) - Enchiladas Suizas - Burrito de la Casa (Hubs says it's GOOD!) - Veggie Chimichanga (five stars from daughter) - Nacho Supreme The food was brought out hot and quickly on very large plates. They serve you large portions and the food is also done very well. Hubs said he liked that the food was not over salted. I really loved the refried beans. You can tell they used lard and I was loving the taste. I asked for them to hold the rice on my dish because of a rice sensitivity and it was done without question. I was served a delicious enchilada plate and I just had double the beans instead of the rice. If you want "cleaner" beans my daughter got the cholesterol free whole beans with her veggie chimichanga and said they were really good too. My kids are extremely harsh critics and always complain that I give too many stars. Therefore, I was shocked when my daughter looked up and said "five stars! " lol I think that says a lot right there. My kids were raised on authentic Mexican food and are very picky about what they are served. There's a men's and women's restroom near the front entrance of the restaurant for customers. There's plenty of parking in a private lot. In summary, don't pass this little Mexican spot as you travel along Route 66. It put us in a great mood to start our journey down the 17 in Labor Day traffic. read more

Incredible flavors! Monster margaritas! Great service! I tried four of the five different entrees our group ordered, and they were all great. Staying in Flagstaff and searched for a Mexican restaurant and this place come up. We were not impressed at all. We ordered and our food was out in like 5mins. I ordered a bean tostada. I'm GF so my choices were limited. They put flour in the their enchilada sauce. Why??? growing up my Nana never used flour when making homemade enchilada sauce and neither do I. I couldn't not even see my tostada and couldn't even pick it up. I had to search amongst the mess. My husband got the mole enchiladas and did say they were pretty good. The rice was just ok and the beans were good. But we won't be coming back here. Will try somewhere else next time we are in town. read more

OK, let's talk crispy Rellenos! I've had chili Rellenos my whole life and sometimes I'm not thrilled with the egg platter that goes around them. But I'll Tapatio does not disappoint with wrapping it in a crispy flour tortilla and all the wonderful sauces they throw on there plus rice and beans on the side, oh my goodness I've been here so many times but 99% of the time only get the crispiest! I'm sure the rest of the food is great also, I see it all over the place when I go in there and all the smiles! But I can't get myself to order anything else! This feels like a chain. Yates like it, too. Not a bad chain. But abuelita isn't in the kitchen. I've been to a few places where she was, and you can tell the difference. The food was fine. Not great, not bad. But they didn't really stand out from numerous other Mexican joints. Portions were large. Service was good. I wouldn't object if someone wanted to bring me back here, but I wouldn't make a point of it, either. Just an average experience. read more

Everything about this place was amazing. It was super busy on a Friday night and were seated about 15 min after we came in. I love the atmosphere of this place and all of the colors and artwork literally on every table. We ordered the chimichanga and enchilada plate that came with all 3 sauces and they were humongous! We literally had enough food to feed the both of us the next day. Of course we had to get a house Margarita and it was pretty strong ngl. It was the perfect drink for our meal. Our waiter was so sweet and full of energy, always calling us chicos when he came to see us. Also chips and salsa were free! This place was super busy so you know it's good. As long time El Tapatio #9 patrons, we absolutely love this restaurant for the quality of the food and the friendly family atmosphere. We recently discovered the newly opened El Tapatio NUMBER TEN at the top of the hill by the Bashas Grocery Store right in the middle of town. WOW! At El Tapatio, we pride ourselves on serving authentic Mexican dishes in the traditional Jalisco style with customer service designed to make you feel at home. Aside from all the entrees you can expect from your favorite Mexican menu, we have an assortment of appetizers and delicious drinks in our full bar for you to enjoy, as well. Our roots as a restaurant are in Colorado, but we've been fortunate enough to be able to expand into Arizona this year with our newest location in the heart of Flagstaff on historic Route 66. Established in 2017.

We are a family-operated restaurant that has its roots in Grand Junction, Colorado. We opened our first restaurant back in 2002 and have been expanding ever since. Our dishes are carefully cooked and flavored in the traditional Jalisco style. When you dine here, we work to make you feel at home!

Meet the Business Owner: Manny G.

After opening our first restaurant back in 2002, a food truck in Grand Junction, Colorado, we were overwhelmed by the support we saw from the community. We were fortunate enough to be able to open a second location in 2007. Since then we've been expanding to meet the demand of Mexican food lovers all over the state and have most recently opened a location in Arizona. We hope to see you here soon!

We were intrigued enough that we visited MartAnne's the very next night for dinner. That was on a Tuesday at around 6PM and it wasn't too busy the entire time we were there. House Horchata ($5.99) - This drink comes in a giant 32 oz Ball jar with tons of ice. Per the server it's made with milk and condensed milk, no rice milk at all. It's rich, thick, creamy, sweet, filled with earthy notes of vanilla and cinnamon. There's so much spice included that at some points, there's almost a gritty feeling while drinking. It's perfect for a hot day after hiking. Buckwheat Pancake ala carte ($4.99) - Buckwheat pancakes are something we've never seen before on a diner menu in the past. It seems to be pretty common around Arizona, so we had to give it a try before leaving Flagstaff. This one's pretty big, almost plate sized. It's really moist, fluffy, bouncy, and light with a slight sweetness and a certain earthy flavor. It's moist enough that it sticks to the ceramic plate it's served on. The pancake is somewhat crumbly due to the low gluten content of buckwheat, although I believe they use a mix of buckwheat and wheat flour to give some more stability. It's bluish grey in color with black specks of ground buckwheat throughout. It's dusted with powdered sugar, but it's not a ton, making the pancake not really sweet at all. The pancake comes with a small cup of their cinnamon honey butter. It's not mixed that well, leaving it mostly unhomogenized with streaks of honey and spice through the softened salted butter. Tamale ala carte ($4.99) - MartAnne's offers two types of tamales - the first a red chile beef, and the second a green corn and cheese. We went with the latter, which is a homemade tamale with a somewhat looser, coarsely ground masa shell surrounding an interior of yellow sweet corn kernels, a bouncy and somewhat spongy block of Oaxaca cheese, and a fragrant green chile. There's a slight sweetness throughout and the tamale overall is easy to eat. Chilaquiles, Xmas, Fratelli ($17.99) - This is a monster sized plate of a mishmash of ingredients. There are three things as essentially a base layer. Firstly some Mexican rice that's tender, moist, and fluffy, totally unlike the more common dry and and compact version. My guess is that they skip the initial frying step that helps keeps the starch together. It's quite fragrant and has gives a bit of heat. On top of the rice is a layer of hash browns. The potatoes are tender on the interior, griddled on one side to give a delightful crunch, although there's some acridity that develops. Another third of the plate is covered with chili beans - tender pinto beans that are well salted and seasoned. Then there's the eggs stuffed in between layers of corn tortilla chips, smothered with sauce. I went with the Christmas combination of red and green sauce, followed up by the Fratelli-style pork green chile. The green sauce is fragrant and vegetal, while the red sauce is more smoky. The pork, which is cut into chunks, on top is a bit tough and dry but there's more than enough sauce to make up for that slight demerit. Finally, there's a small mound of I believe jalapeno peppers, cut into small neon-green colored pieces. Some pieces are spicy, some are mild, all have a vegetal pepper taste. I found the food at MartAnne's to be pretty good. It definitely hits the spot after hiking all around the area for most of the day. Bathrooms - Two individual rooms, one for men, one for women. Note: MartAnne's charges a 3.5% credit card fee. This is labeled on the menu.

Take any of the high ratings for this place with a grain of salt. We found it to have very mediocre, commonplace Mexican food (that restaurants in Flagstaff like MartAnnes do far better) and terrible service. Last time we decided to give them another chance (on an admittedly busy weekend), we were told it would be 30-35 minutes. 45 minutes later we were still way down the list and we, along with other people getting frustrated by the mismanagement, tried to find out what was going on. Staff basically went back and forth with each other (in Spanish) instead of addressing us directly and no one seemed to know what was going on. No apologies were issued whatsoever. This is the best Mexican food I have had in a long time. Like another reviewer suggested I ordered the Dragon margarita and it was delicious! The servers were so friendly and took a genuine interest in interacting with our kids. But the huge omg moment for me was seeing crispy chile rellenos on the menu. I have be searching, searching! for a deep fried relleno as most places do not prepare them this way. And let me tell you, it was worth the wait. Wish I lived closer to Flagstaff so that I could frequent El Tapatio regularly, but we will definitely be back! read more

Favorite Mexican food in Flagstaff! Everything on the menu is spectacular! Their relleno's are excellent, especially the crispy rellenos! Best beans and rice in town. Similar to the old Casa Bonita that is now Cane's chicken. Their margaritas are the best, unbelievably tasty. Service is lightening fast. Mario was our waiter and he was awesome! This food was amazing! We saw the reviews and figured we would give it a try and were very happy we did on our vacation! I recommend the fajitas trio, and we loved the chips and salsa, and bean and cheese burritos. read more

I really enjoyed my meal and service so much we went back a few days later. I'm looking forward to going back and trying another option from the very large menu. In the mean time I've tried to tell as many friends as I could to go try it out. read more

We had a great meal tonight at El Tapatio. We had fantastic service from Erika. The portions are HUGE! I had really delicious mole enchiladas and the kids had tacos al carbon. My husband had fajitas. We would recommend all of it. We'll be back. read more

Don't waste time and money bland food ok drinks, just go 2 minutes back is Salsa brava 2 minutes in front Agave both with great food and drinks. read more
