This has become our favorite Mexican Restaurant close to home. After having spend almost nine years living an hour from the Mexican border, we got spoiled with good Mexican food. Eating at El Tapatio brings back memories of how it was when we lived in Arizona. The food is superb. They've managed to iron out some of the kinks that come with any new business. The service is excellent. The staff recognizes us when we come in and make us feel like family. They are always cheerful and accomodating. When this place first opened it was my secret and favorite spot! It had large serving sizes of very respectable quality for the price. Ever since they renovated the quality and serving size has dropped and continues to decline. I am now getting half the rice, half the beans, and about 3/4 the amount of beef in my burrito. Great menu and the food was very fresh. I have a good appetite and could not finish the portion. Had shrimp quesadilla de Camaron and the shrimp were plump and plentiful. I have been there 3 times. Food was average. The service was good and the food always comes out in time even in the rush hour.

Not quite as good as La Caretta, but it was decent enough. I didn't find the decor as vibrant and taken care of...the booths looked worn, not as much color around. The salsa was on the hot side, which I like, but not as flavorful as La Caretta. Same with the meat. I had a beef and a chicken chimichanga, and it had a plainer taste to it. There was barely any guacamole with it, mostly just lettuce. Maybe I should have ordered the table side kind, but it was pricey for just me eating it. The waiter was really nice and kept calling us amigos, which made us feel welcome. He checked in often, made sure our salsa and chips were full and drinks were not empty. My son ordered chicken fingers to drive me crazy I guess, seeing as we were in a Mexican restaurant, and he only ate his fries so I can't comment on the quality. He did love his kiddie pina colada though, his staple drink of choice when we eat out. The bill was right in line with all of the other similar restaurants. I would definitely go to again if I find myself in Merrimack, as they had a lengthy menu with lots of variety and obviously a lot of loyal customers who swear by them. read more

Great place for lunch. I attempted to go here for dinner a few times, but never wanted to wait in line. Prices are reasonable. Good sized portions. Food tastes great. I've tried many dishes and haven't had a bad one yet. My last couple of times here, the staff was friendly, but the service wasn't as good as it had been in the past. Just enjoyed lunch at El Tapatio! We shared an order of hot wings for an app.. Very delicious .. The tasty spicy wing sauce is served on the side so you can dress your wings with as little or as much as you like. I had to ask for ranch dressing for the cooling factor, but no big deal. Our server was great! I had the fajita quesadilla.. all fresh veggies wrapped in a fresh homemade tortilla with generous amounts of chicken and steak with cheese. Let me preface this by saying I am not a person who writes reviews, in fact this is my first. I also generally love El Tapatio, but tonight was a BIG let down. We go there often; in fact, it's usually our favorite Mexican restaurant, but tonight they let us down. Tonight we sat in the bar, and ordered our usual house margaritas, which ended up tasting like all lime juice. When we complained to the server (2nd time we've gotten ones like this here this summer), she was not apologetic, said it was a mix that she didn't make, and passed the blame on to the bartender, so we sent them back, and had just water. We ordered guacamole (which usually comes out right away) and our meals at the same time, and proceeded to wait much longer than necessary for it, then had to remind the server/bar person about it. Again, she was not apologetic about the wait. The kicker was that after waiting another 20 minutes or more, a different server came over to tell us that there had been a mistake and our dinner order had not been entered. We just looked at him in disbelief! We told him that we come here often & we were so disappointed in the service, lack of effort to make up for it, etc.. I asked to see the manager as we left...and the same guy came back to us and said "You might not believe this, but I am the manager" and he gave a lame apology for the issue with the food. Again, I explained that we eat there often and have never had such an issue. Most aggravating? He didn't even offer to make up for the experience in any way. We left without paying for the guac or drinks, and said we weren't sure if we'd go back, and we were still hungry. We went Saturday night about 7:00 PM. It looked like the place was pretty full, maybe 1 or 2 open tables. We were seated immediately. Queso dip, soft grilled chicken chimichanga, and my pork carnitas fajitas were all excellent. It has been quite a while since I have been here and the last time I was here the food was great. I never do reviews on Yelp but I felt I needed to. It was a Saturday night and the place wasn't that crowded. We were greeted very nicely and was seated on the spot. When the chips and salsa was brought to the table they were lukewarm and stale. We had a second basket brought and again the same. Then my meal arrived. I had the Pollo Asado. Wow what a disappointment. It was a generous portion but the chicken had absolutely no flavor and tuff. The rice was soggy and flavor was so so. Say what you want, but I will stick with La Carreta. Every Saturday night I go you have to wait at least a half hour. That must say something for the quality of food you get there. It is worth the wait and I know when the chips arrive they are always fresh, warm & crisp. There version of Pollo Asado, Pollo Parrella is well marinated,full of flavor and tender. So the only thing I can say is "adios" El Tapatio read more

I heard that a bunch of employees from La Caretta in Nashua opened up this restaraunt. The food is very similar, which isn't bad because La Caretta is good.
