Ok, this hole in the wall deserves all the good things because it is so good in every respect. We had just landed in Ontario Airport and were very hungry. My husband was craving Mexican food. We looked on Yelp and this place was close by so we thought we'd try it... so happy we did. We arrived just as another large party had just gotten seated, but they quickly accommodated us and took our drink orders. The nachos are green and yellow. Thin but well-salted with a choice of a zingy tomatillo salsa or a fresh tomato salsa. The horchata was cold, cinnamony and refreshing. We got a bowl of guacamole, and that was a great addition to the chips and to our tacos. I had the battered fish tacos while my husband had the grilled fish tacos. The tortillas were fresh and warm. The chipotle crema sauce was tart and flavorful. The toppings crisp. I wasn't a fan of the rice and beans... too much dried chili powder/paprika for my taste, but the tacos were the real highlight of the meal which made up for this. The tacos and the service. I haven't had better service in a restaurant in I don't know how long. Everyone on the staff worked well together. They made sure we had plenty of chips, drinks, checked on us regularly, and apologized for the time waiting due to the large party they were serving. We were in such a pleasant environment we didn't even notice time passing. This is a place we definitely will come back to and to which you should go to. Yum!! I tried Tio Alex's burritos today (sausage/egg and steak/egg) and they were both delicious!! They weren't too greasy and all of the ingredients tasted homemade. Their red and green salsa are so good, but not spicy at all. The salsas were all flavorful and the Guamole is out of this world. It was the service and the staff. Like they knew us, and accomodations were over the top. How refreshing. Now all the dishes we ordered were A+. My grandson ordered the fish tacos and they were the best. Flautas were very meaty. Chili verde burrito was beautiful and delish. Stopped by here after my kids picked me up from the airport. I had read a magazine recommendation about their Nopalitos tacos, and since I had never tried this type of taco before, I decided to check them out. I ordered the street tacos with rice and beans--Barbacoa, Carne Asada, Carnitas, and Nopalito (cactus). All the tacos were generously filled with meat or cactus. I can see why a vegetarian would enjoy the Nopalito, but it wasn't for my palate. The Carnitas stood out the most--I'd order just that next time. My son had the Taquito combination and really enjoyed his meal. My daughter-in-law ordered the cheese enchilada and beef taco combination. She wasn't a fan of the enchilada sauce but thoroughly enjoyed the taco. The owners were very friendly. I would definitely recommend and return! read more

We were in the neighborhood and found this place through Yelp with great reviews. We were hesitant to go in the restaurant when we saw it from the parking lot since it was in a very dark and secluded business building. We were greeted as soon as we walked in. The restaurant looked small when we walked in and it was packed inside. You have to order first at the register and then sit down at a table. They do bring your food to you and refill your drinks. We had waited for a while before we got our drinks but they did come by to refill them when we asked. You do get complimentary chips and salsa while you wait for your food. The guy who took our order was super friendly and very helpful. He recommended the California burrito with carne asada. We got the burrito with the fries on the side. The burrito was huge! But it was mainly flour tortilla and not so much meat. He did bring us some extra guacamole which was super nice of him and it was delicious. The chips didn't taste fresh as it was sitting under a heated lamp. The salsa verde was the bomb and way better than the red salsa. The carne asada lacked flavor and the cheese inside wasn't even melted so it was just hard chunks of cheddar cheese. There was barely any sour cream or guacamole inside the burrito so I'm super glad he brought extra out for us. The highlight of the meal was their fries. Omg, I don't know what seasoning salt they use on their fries but it is to die for! Honestly, I would just go there for the fries. We noticed that the restaurant actually had another side but they didn't open it up that night. They use it for when they have Sunday brunch buffet and if there's more people. The side we sat at was pretty small and had about 6 tables. Since it was full that night, we had to sit at the side table. The poor guy who took our order at the register did it all. He handles the ordering and register, he brings the food out from the kitchen, he refills your drinks, he cleans up the tables, and takes care of the takeout too. He was running around doing everything. He deserves a raise cause he was doing everything with a smile! My frustration was with the lady, who I think was the owner, she was just chit chatting away while he was busting his butt doing everything. She came by to refill our drinks maybe once and barely helped him out. We saw a couple walk in and they waited for a while to be helped while he was bringing food out to people and she stood there talking to a couple at a table for about 5 minutes. She should have stopped talking and helped those people who walked in to help out her employee. I would hate to work for a boss like that who just walks around talking when it's busy and doesn't help out. If she doesn't want to help out then she should hire another employee to do it. The food was mediocre and the restaurant was too cramped so it was not comfortable at all. The service we got from the guy was amazing but the lady ruined my first time experience. El Tio Alex is a family owned/operated restaurant and catering business. Alex and his wife, Marisa, are the most gracious hosts, and their food is quite delicious. They have two indoor dining areas, and occasionally utilize the outside community patio area for special events. Plenty of parking available in a private lot. FOOD: We started with the Queso Fundido appetizer ($10.95 cheese only, $14.95 with chorizo), a small side of Guacamole ($5.95), both were okay. For our entrèe, we shared a Molcajete ($37.95), which included grilled steak, chicken, shrimp, chorizo sausage, and cactus, all swimming in a delicious red sauce. It was served with two plates of rice, beans, guacamole/salsa fresca, and warm corn & flour tortillas. The menu says that the molcajete is for two, however it's plenty big, and the three of us had no problem sharing, with some leftovers. This was truly a feast for the eyes, ears, and palate! I did have one minor issue with their "to go drink policy". I had ordered a fountain soda ($3.50), which comes with free refills, however when I asked for a to go cup to take about half of the soda that was already in my glass with me, I was told that they don't do that. Something to do with the people that come in from the business park. I've got to imagine that they provide cups for to go orders, so why not for dine-in customers who want to take the remaining soda with them? Other than that minor complaint, I highly recommend that you stop in and give them a try. read more

I stopped by in the morning, super friendly staff, and deliciously prepared asada and pastor. A coworker recommended this place and since I was up the street I decided to stop by. The lady at the register was super helpful and friendly. I love me some amazing customer service. I ordered the shrimp taco plate that came with rice and beans, asada, carnitas, and pastor tacos. These were some really really delicious top tier shrimp tacos and a very large portion I was so full with one taco I ate the rest of the food later that day lol The carnitas were really tasty and moist these were my favorite. The pastor was good but if you don't like large chucks of pineapple maybe ask for them on the side or not at all. I was not a fan of the asada tacos, I seen many reviews in regards to them but sadly those were my least favorite, meat was bland and I have had amazing asada elsewhere. WOW. FIVE STARS!!! I came here expecting a simple breakfast burrito to-go, and got SO MUCH MORE! Firstly, the staff is so nice! The lady who took my order over the phone was polite and gave me an accurate wait time of about 20 mins. When I arrived and received my bag, I was SHOCKED by the weight. Anyone who regularly orders breakfast burritos knows that a HEAVY burrito is usually a GOOD sign. I opened my container in the car and WOW! Inside was -Giant breakfast burrito with GREAT flavors (and they didn't skimp on the spinach which I appreciated!) -3 mild salsas (2 red 1 green) and guess what- they were actually MILD!! For those of us who can't handle our spice very well (guilty), I'm often "defeated" by the spiciness of even mild salsas, but at El Tio Alex, the salsa is just that, mild. And I loved it! And now for the unexpected items that came with my order -Seasonal fruit (watermelon and honeydew melon) -SO SWEET and juicy!! (Just realized it mentions fruit as a side dish on the menu. I must have missed that so it was a pleasant surprise to me!) -Complimentary chips -pico de gallo + cabbage I could not get through my entire burrito it was so filling! And the flavors were delicious. I will DEFINITELY be returning to this cute restaurant the next time I'm in the area. The nachos were ridonkulous! All their food is big portioned and the delicious. Marissa, the owner, is so sweet and down to earth. The wait staff is all friendly and helpful with the menu or any questions you have. We were attending the JW regional convention at the Toyota Arena and came here after. Randomly found this place since we were going to TopGolf that afternoon and we wanted something different from TopGolf bar food. Don't get me wrong, I have enjoyed food at a variety of TopGolfs, but Mexican food sounded good and had a visitor with me from The East Coast. Not much around TG as it is in an industrial area. As I heard someone say, "people only come to Rancho Cucamonga for the mall and TopGolf." It's really what I heard while walking into TG later that afternoon, so haters just chill out. Found this place after stopping at a nearby Thai restaurant that smelled like rancid oil when we walked and stilled smelled like that as we turned around and walked out. Appears that el Tio Alex was newly open and was in a business park. It was about 1:00 and it was not too crowded. We were seated immediately and the nice woman staff member gave us menus, took our drink orders and set down chips and salsas. Chips and salsas were delicious and we we're hungry so we scarfed up the chips and before the basket was empty a new basket was put in its place. Filling up and we had not even ordered yet. Menu has lots of choices but I was in the mood for a plain ol' bean and cheese burrito. I like them wet with tomatillo sauce and cheese on top. My dining partner had never had a wet burrito and was not sure what it was until I explained to him. He thought it sounded good and ordered the same but chose red sauce since it was the mild one. I swear the waitress walked in to place our order and then turned around in the kitchen walking out with our burritos. It was freaky fast (that sounds familiar). The plates were very, very hot and the cheese was bubbling. These burritos were enormous and we could have shared one with three people! After letting them cool a bit, I sliced into mine and the beans and cheese oozed out like yummy lava from a volcano. Steam was also pouring out so I did what any normal, red blooded American man would do, I put a big old heaping fork full straight into my mouth. DAMN, that's hot! I almost had to spit it out, but instead bared the pain until it was cool enough for me to chew and swallow. After the blisters on the roof of my mouth settled, I was able to taste one very good bean and cheese burrito. The sauce was good as well. I gave it the old college try but only put down 1/2 of the massive burrito before I was stuffed. (damn chips and salsa!) Also I did want to swing some golf clubs without burping up (or worse) refried beans. Since we were going to TopGolf for several hours we did not take the burrito remnants to enjoy later. Bummer. This is my favorite spot in Ontario and my wife and I have been here 5 times. The food is absolutely excellent and the service is usually good. Sometimes the owner (Marisa) can be a bit abrasive as you begin your order, but after we order, she is usually friendly and attentive. Today, I was driving Uber all day in the rain and it was still coming down heavily when I got in the restaurant. When I got inside, Marisa was helping someone else and she politely said, "I'll be right with you in a minute." When that person was done ordering, instead of saying "Hi, how are you?" since I have been there on multiple occasions, she bluntly asked, "What can I get for you?" And I told her I wanted the taco and enchilada combo. Next blunt question, "Beef or chicken?" After having a rough day, I responded somewhat strongly, "Beef!" I apologize that I couldn't have been more patient, but I also believe Marisa needs to get out of owner mode once in awhile and be a bit friendlier when taking orders especially when there's a torrential downpour outside and people aren't feeling great. I will still continue coming here. I still love this place. Next time I will be my normally patient, friendly self and let Marisa do her job even if she comes off abrasive but doesn't mean to do that. read more
