I have enjoyed coming here for Taco Tuesday for sooooo many years, even celebrated my birthday here last year. I am not sure what happened since then, but I don't think I'll be coming back anymore. I recently went for Taco Tuesday and sat in the cantina. What happened to the good vibes?! No TVs were working, no DJ was playing, NO SALSA w/ your chips?! Instead they gave me.....BEANS?! The taco bar garnishes were so slim and the tacos were meh. The Happy Hour menu prices have gone up. The kitchen staff who brings out the hot food was very unpleasant to guests from what I could see and hear. The bill comes out, what is this "SURCHARGE FEE"?! STARS FOR MY SERVER ONLY, BECAUSE SHE WAS NICE. So many groups of people I watched walk in and right back out. I am so disappointed, almost heartbroken, as another IE staple has gone down the drain. Every once in a while I wonder why I don't eat at El Torito more often, and then I come back and remember exactly why I've been a fan for so long. The food is consistently delicious, but if I'm being honest, I'm just as excited for the chips and salsa, although it's way too easy for me to fill up before the main course arrives. The team at this Ontario location always does an excellent job of making you feel welcome and well taken care of throughout the meal. Another thing I appreciate is that it's usually easy to get a table, even when other nearby restaurants have long waits. Lunch is definitely worth it here! For a price of $19.50/pp for the lunch buffet, my husband and I were able to have unlimited sides, tacos, (cheese) enchiladas, salad, and dessert. First time at El Torito and honestly... it surprised me in a good way. Came here with a group of coworkers and friends and ended up spending most of the night at the bar. The vibe was actually pretty fun. They had a live DJ and a dance floor, which turned it into more of a nightlife spot than I expected. The crowd was interesting too. You had people in their 20s all the way up to their 50s, but everyone was just minding their own business and enjoying themselves. No weird vibes, no drama. Music was decent. A mix of rap, oldies, and Latin music. Nothing crazy, but enough to keep the vibe going. Food held its own. Chips and salsa paired perfectly with drinks. We ordered tacos and sopes to share and they were pretty solid. Not life changing, but definitely did the job for a night out. Shoutout to our server Rosa. She did a great job taking care of our group and made sure everything was going smoothly the whole time. Definitely appreciated, especially with a bigger party. Now here is where it lost some points. The Mexican candy shots. Way too sweet & sour and barely any alcohol for $13 a shot. I ordered 10 thinking it would kick the night up a notch... yeah, not really. I realized I haven't been giving El Torito enough credit for what it serves. I know it's a very common chain restaurant, so I honestly wasn't expecting to be impressed--but I was pleasantly surprised. I had a couple of gin and tonics, which were really good, and ordered the shrimp and crab enchiladas. I was a little hesitant because, let's face it, this isn't fine dining--it's El Torito. But to my surprise, the enchiladas were extremely good, and so were the drinks. Sometimes you don't need fancy--you just need good food, good drinks, and an enjoyable evening. El Torito delivered exactly that. Definitely recommended for a casual, enjoyable night out. Three stars from me is a good rating. I'm very particular and have high expectations when it comes to food, service, and atmosphere. To earn four or five stars from me, a restaurant would have to exceed my expectations in all three areas. I don't give those ratings easily. read more

I'm not a big fan of chain restaurants, but this location holds a special memory for me. This restaurant's hosts a Mother's Day buffet that my mother absolutely enjoyed. The food was tasty and the service great. So, it's been some time since I have been to this particular El Torito, but the memories were still vibrant in my mind and even more so since my mother"s passing. We were there celebrating my sister's graduating from college. We were promptly greeted at the door and shown to our table with little delay. The restaurant has an old-style Mexican decor of large chairs and lights that have the representation of candles. The server was prompt but a bit stiff and mechanical. All-in-all the server did an okay job. I had the combo platter: cheese enchilada, crispy chicken flautas, chicken tamale, beans and rice, and it comes with signature sweet corn cake. But let me start with the chips and salsa. For me, the meal begins with testing how tasty and good the chips and salsa are. The salsa was closer to a Pico de gallo and watery. The salsa that came with the meal was sweet, the sweetest salsa I have ever had in my life. I had a small bowl of tortilla soup. I use to make this soup and do not recall potatoes in the mix , and I served it hot not just barely hot/warm. The food was presented as "hot", but the food itself was barely warm. It was sad to feel the nostalgia slip away as a sampled the chicken flautas. They are not sweet, but the crispy flautas were acceptable, but I asked for jalapeños to have some spice and heat to the meal, the cheese enchilada was decent and, much to my surprise, hot. Somehow, they managed to find the oldest corn tortilla and was hard on the edges and difficult to chew to make the enchilada. Now, I'm a cheap drink and rarely have alcohol when I go to dine unless someone else is driving, but the mango margarita was mild, tasted like mango and absolutely devoid of alcohol - keep in mind that it says a lot from someone who cannot get past one drink without feeling sleepy. El Torito has lost that family, cultural style connection that I so Fondly remember them for. The spicy favorable food that was always better than chain style food, but tonight, I had a Luke warm sweet meal, and skip the sweet corn cake that is served as a lump of sugar cake. Just recently went there to pre-game for my sister's birthday. We went for margarita Monday. Our waitress was nice and sweet. We ordered the wings and the chorizo tacos and they were very good. My sister order enchiladas, food was good per usual and hot as always. I had heard of this location in the past, but I had never been here. We get this location catered to my work and their food is always good. Their cheese enchiladas are my favorite for catering! A friend was visiting and decided to have lunch here while we waited for top golf. There was no wait and were sat right away. They have a very spacious sitting area, outdoor seating and the bar area that has a dance floor. My bf and I had their Cadillac margaritas from happy hour. I ordered steak quesadilla and it was delicious! My bfs shrimp enchiladas were also very tasty and the shrimp perfectly cooked. I submitted a review a couple months ago as I was not pleased with happy hour being removed from weekends, shortened during the week, some items removed and others having the price changed. I submitted it in part because a waiter suggested it, saying El Torito pays close attention to Yelp reviews. However, I have since realized management only responds to outstanding reviews and not to complaints/2 star reviews. I have also emailed corporate with no response. And El Torito is the only restaurant I'm aware of that charges a surcharge on every bill; many restaurants did this during the height of Covid as those were difficult times for many businesses, but they were soon removed. The happy hour menu has changed and not for the better, less choices higher prices, the guacamole with Chicharrones had chunks of fat, not regular Chicharrones. The taco Birria used to be 3 tacos now is only 2 tacos and higher prices and poor quality. The street tacos over priced and not very good. We also ordered from the regular menu, took another extra 10 minutes to bring the food. This happened during the World Cup games. Now I know why this place was almost empty.
