I thought all small Mexican chains were the same. I was proven wrong by El Torazo. We went because of a 2 for 1 margarita special. Enticing, until you receive a bad margarita. But a bad drink on special doesn't deserve a 2 star review. The food was the real problem. I love when we're served with free chips and salsa. But I'd rather pay for quality than receive trash. Thick chips with no salt. Not sure which generic brand it of the bag, but really unacceptable. It doesn't stop there. The chicken was edible, but not quality. Did not appear to be fresh, and definitely want juicy. Seasoned cardboard might be the best descriptor. So, why 2 stars and not 1? The people were excellent! They may not have been the most attentive during our visit, but they were quick when we ordered. Sometimes do quick we couldn't finish the request lol. That said they were nice and hard-working. I believe they wanted us to enjoy ourselves. There are a lot of small Mexican restaurants. My recommendation is to drive 5-10 minutes to another one. read more

My family had appointments in the shopping area that El Torazo sits and we thought queso, tacos, quesadillas, and burritos sounded like a satisfying dinner. My favorite part of the experience was the service. We immediately secured seating, had a server greet us, and chips and salsa carried to the table. Their style of food is going to boil down to preference. Their salsas were unique and the grilled chicken offered in the tacos and quesadillas were seasoned. Without toppings of sour cream or salsa, the chicken came across as peppery; however, adding sauces helped cover up that taste. After comparing the same items I've eaten at other restaurants, this spot would not be my preference for Mexican; however, the crowd was strong inside and on the patio. This place is usually really great, but tonight's meal was pretty abysmal. Had to send cold food back after waiting almost 30 minutes for it. It was bland and uninspired, and my mother didn't enjoy hers either. To add insult to injury, two people waiting for food in the lobby were blasting videos and music out loud on their phones. The environment was already noisy enough - this was just so distracting. When will a restaurant step up and ban the use of devices out loud? Noise pollution is real. read more

My husband, brother-in-law and I came here completely on accident. We went to the wrong location but decided to stay put. I'm glad we did. El Torazo had such a good vibe. I attended a retirement party here. They have a large room and the back where we sat comfortably. The staff was amazing. We about 30 or more people there and service was impeccable. We were also able to split the checks as needed which is rare nowadays. Food was good as well read more

We visited El Torazo Mexican with a birthday group of kiddos on a Sunday night. I had called earlier in the day to make sure they were open but never reached a live person, so we just showed up. Fortunately, they were able to seat our table of 7 immediately. The restaurant is located in a shopping center right off the expressway, easy convenient parking out front. When we arrived we were immediately greeted at the door and shown to a table in the middle of the restaurant. It's typical Mexican fare, similar to most of the larger chains here. We started with queso and they brought two baskets of chips. The white queso was good, and the chips were refilled frequently. The kiddos ordered from the kids menu and had the pizza, tacos, enchiladas and cheese quesadilla. Kids menus is under $6, which is great for a big group. Kids were all happy with food, except for the pizza which was missing the sauce. My husband and I ordered the combination plates. I chose the beef hard taco and cheese chili's relleno and my husband ordered the tamale, relleno and tostado. We were thrilled with the relleno and it didn't compare to El Nopal, which is covered in cheese. It was okay, but a bit soggy. For dessert we ordered the churros which were a huge hit with the kids. Overall it was a quick and easy Mexican meal, but probably won't be back. Will stick to our tried and true favorite, El Nopal. read more

We just missed their Saturday"Lunch Hour" menu but the regular menu prices seemed reasonable. basked on warmed chips brought with two salsa bowls(complimentary). Wasn't spicy but good. We ordered the white cheese dip(queso which tasted a bit bland but still good?) one some vegetarian plate, other son soft tacos, wife Chile Plablano stuffed with cheese and i combination enchilada and Tamal. Everyone loved their meals and I also tasted their food. Much better sides with flavor than typical rice and black beans or refried beans. The manager/owner realizing my 10 year old birthday even brought out a small ice cream with candle and staff and him sang and played instruments. I also ordered the "Fried Ice cream" which everyone loved. Bottom line I love this restaurant and Staff is 5*!!!!!!!! That's a lot coming from me. even day after I'm still SO impressed with food and service. Definitely coming back soon for Lunch. For 4 off dinner menu and dessert was $55. We've been eating at El Torazo for 16-17 years. We love the owner, Gustavo. His whole family has worked there at different times. The food will keep you coming back. My favorite is the Burrito Supremo with steak. My husband loves it too, but the chicken version is his absolute favorite. The service is always excellent. Even if the owner is working in the kitchen. If we have a special request like no onions, it comes that way. All of the servers are wonderful. Cinco de mayo is our favorite day to go so we can see all of the extra decorations. But comes to think of it, it's always beautiful inside. The restaurant is always the correct temperature. Everyone is happy. Despite the name, you won't receive any bull here. This place has what I like to call "comida del barrio." It reminds me of the food you eat at neighborhood gatherings where your abuelo slow-roasted a pig and everyone grabs tortillas and just goes to town on the meat and salsa. No fancy frills, and nothing outrageous; just good, solid Mexican food that you can count on to fill you up with satisfaction. The tostada was my favorite item; so fresh and bright and full of flavor. Their homemade habanero salsa was the perfect companion and should not be hidden from the menu - that stuff is hand-made from scratch, daily, and it's phenomenal. The tamal was quite good; well-seasoned and the masa was stuffed full of a healthy portion of the shredded, saucy chicken. Delicious! The pork carnitas were my least favorite, but only because they were slightly dry and under-seasoned. With that said, they were still very good, but I could tell they were perfectly cooked at one point, and may have just sat around too long. The meat was soft, tender, good quality, and plentiful - just dry and needing a flavor kick. The chips were lackluster, desperately begging for salt, but that habanero salsa would win a trophy anywhere. We were pleased with our meal and the service was outstanding. I find most of the "tex-mex" restaurant chains to be about average. We stopped here for a late lunch last sunday, and I was quiet shocked about the level of execution and taste of my meal. I expected an "average" burrito. Instead I received a burrito that was very well wrapped and filled with supreme quality chicken (0 fat, not wet chicken). Covered in their awesome queso. El Torazo's is pretty much just like any other average Mexican restaurant in general, but the good thing is that average Mexican restaurants are usually pretty good. It's a tiny place hidden in Middletown by the liquor stores, but don't let that stop you from coming in. It's very nice and clean on the inside, and one thing that really stood out was how friendly the staff are. Very smiley and attentive, which is always nice to have. :) One thing's for sure, you cannot come here without getting a margarita, adults. I highly recommend a Raspberry one, a flavor hard to find anywhere else but is DAMN good. They're drinks are a little bit smaller than your average, but still great. I ordered the Super Burrito, which was a lot smaller than I had imagined. Good, but I was hoping for a little more "super" to it. Great choice if you're around the Hurstbourne area. read more

I was very pleasantly surprised by my first visit to El Torazo-- it was so delicious! There was no wait for a table, and the server came right to us when we sat down. There are a lot of choices on the menu but not overwhelmingly so; they boast the typical fair of Mexican restaurants. I ordered the carnitas and my boyfriend ordered the arroz con pollo. Both of our meals were spectacular! It is hard for my boyfriend to find his dish (basically rice, meat, and cheese sauce) at Mexican restaurants so he was very happy, and I've never ordered carnitas before but I'm so very glad that I did! Our waiter was very attentive and friendly and the restaurant had a nicer-than-average ambiance that I appreciated. We definitely feel like we've found a hidden gem! I don't know what kind they are but they are So Cripsy and Fresh! I also tried their Drink called - Horchata. I had seen a friend order it a couple of times and today I just had to try it. Aside from that they have lots of food options which include anywhere from deep fried with queso to a grilled lighter portion. I typically I get the Camarones a la Diabla ($13.95). With this place being 2 doors down from one of our favorite spots- Shalimar- it hasn't gotten our attention enough to try it until this past weekend. We were just really craving Mexican. The menu is pretty standard so I ordered shrimp-a-la-diabla which is my go to at most Mexican spots. It was standard- and good- but nothing special. I did like that they had skinny margaritas on the menu and I ordered a pretty big one. Tasty! Daniel had chorizo enchiladas and a Pina colada which he said was good.
