Happy hour buffalo wings
Liz B.

A casual restaurant with good happy hour deals for shareable apps! We tried many small dishes during happy hour, with my favorite being the chicken flautas. They were very crispy and came with an addicting sauce. I would definitely skip the street corn next time, it was way too sour and almost inedible. The new chicken wings were also not my favorite, the wings were on the smaller side and they were also too tangy for my taste. I went on a Saturday afternoon for happy hour, and it was pretty empty. Our waiter was great and came around frequently to refill our chips and salsa.

I came here with my son for Taco Tuesday -- $3 for any taco. Choice of meats were beef, chicken, carnitas, and pork with pineapple. The taco bar looked pretty good. A server warms up the tortillas and fills them up with your choice of meat. You can add your toppings. One disappointment was that they don't offer rice as an option for topping. While it looked good I thought everything was a bit dry and salty -- it makes some sense since the meat is on heating dishes for the whole evening. The carnitas weren't dry, of course, but they were pretty salty ... Again, that makes sense, since they're simmering for hours, though it doesn't change the fact they're salty. There are a lot of servers and they're friendly. But service was still pretty slow. Maybe I'll try something from the menu next time. But I'm not doing tacos ... Even though they were cheap.

Sadly May 31, 2026 brunch service was the last day of service for this El Torito location as the manager came around letting us know it was their last day of service. Rumor has it that the property owner for this entire complex has other plans in mind as Gulliver's next door is also closing end of June. Went in for one last El Torito Sunday brunch and it definitely did not disappoint. It was great to see the staff giving it their all even on their closing day. I was surprised to see they even brought in the mariachi band for one last hurrah. All you can eat brunch buffet plus mimosas/sparkling wine for $39 ish bucks before tax and tip. What a great deal! They had everything from traditional breakfast items to tacos to an omelette station and salad/soup bar. So much to choose from. Only 4 stars because you could tell the inside of this place was very run down. Seat cushions were starting to peel, sky light windows were dirty, etc. but seeing they're closing, I guess I shouldn't expect them to keep things up at this point. Thanks for the memories and the affordable Mexican food!

Came here for Thanksgiving brunch and was really happy with our choice. At $43.99 per person for the holiday buffet, it's one of the more affordable options we found - especially for a holiday. The buffet had plenty of variety, so everyone in our group found things they liked. Service was good and the staff was pleasant throughout our meal. Perfect spot if you want to skip the cooking and cleanup but don't want to break the bank. Would definitely consider coming back for future holidays.

Very nice location the food is was amazing. And the service Roberto gave us was top notch! He was very attentive, polite and helpful. He went above and beyond, we came for my sister's birthday brunch and Roberto kept making sure everyone was comfortable especially the birthday girl. We had a large party and Roberto made a special accommodations for us to sit all together with plenty of space. The mariachi group was great, plenty of options in the all you can eat brunch, there was something for everyone. Parking is plentiful, and the rest of the staff was also very attentive.

El Torito is located off MacArthur Blvd and Michelson Drive across the street from John Wayne Airport. It's a good spot to stop at if you're hungry, you want to avoid the premium prices restaurants inside the airport charge, and you have time for a sit down meal before catching your flight. If half stars were an option, I'd rate them a solid 3.5. I recommend visiting on a Tuesday between 4-9 pm so you can take advantage of both their happy hour menu and Taco Tuesday. At the time of this review, El Torito is serving up street tacos with your choice of chicken, carnitas, al pastor and/or steak for only $3 each! I wouldn't expect the highest quality Mexican food but I will say their food is consistent. They also offer great buffets during the holidays you'll def need to make a reservation ahead of time for. Buen provecho!

I drove past this place on the way home so made it a point to stop in for a lunch date. I loved that they had table side guacamole so we decided to share that along with a taco platter. The guy brought over the cart to make us the guacamole but will say I was a bit underwhelmed with the flavor. The tacos were okay but the meat was a bit dry so had to add a decent amount of salsa to each of my tacos. Lunch was okay but I don't know if I'd go out of my way to return.

Happy hour options are a GREAT bargain and delish! Highly recommend the mini tacos (4) and sopes (3). Drinks not bad for the discounted price, and Happy Hour is EVERY DAY until 9 p.m. venue is a little dated and is showing its age, but staff is very friendly and hospitable.

This El Torito is a staple every time we come back home while visiting from Florida. The restaurant is always clean, the host/hostess is always friendly and helpful and the food is amazing. This trip our server was Connie- she was kind, attentive and helpful, if only all servers were as good as her. Cant wait to come back on our next visit!

The ambiance alone makes it feel like a whole experience, not just drinks. We tried a few of their specialty cocktails, all super well done, but the real highlight was our server John. He was amazing -- attentive, fun, and clearly knows his drinks. At one point he made us an off-menu cocktail that was STRONG (in the best way) and honestly one of my favorites of the night. And the attention to detail?? He even let me borrow his hat for photos so I could fully commit to the camping aesthetic 10/10 for the vibes. Overall: such a cute, unique spot for a night out. Perfect for something a little different, a little playful, and definitely memorable. Would absolutely come back -- as long as it's this kind of camping.

Overall, the food, drinks, and atmosphere were great, but unfortunately the hostess experience kept it from being a full 5-star night. I had a 7:30 reservation and arrived at 7:35, but waited nearly 10 minutes before being acknowledged. The hostess was quite rude and told me we had lost our table because we were "late," even though I had been standing there waiting to be helped. She eventually seated us at a dirty table and the overall interaction felt unprofessional and unwelcoming. Thankfully, our server Omar completely turned the night around -- he was kind, attentive, and very helpful. The manager Dave was also amazing and made sure we were taken care of. The food and drinks were excellent. The cocktails were delicious, the hummus with warm pita was fantastic (definitely ask for extra bread!), and the melted cheese with toasted bread was a highlight. The fries were uniquely cut and perfectly cooked, and the calamari was top-notch. The view and ambiance make this a great place to relax with friends over tapas and drinks. I would come back again for the quality of the food, the beautiful setting, and the wonderful service from Omar -- but I do hope management addresses the front-host experience, as it really sets the tone for the evening.

You can make reservations on Yelp, and there is also a Yelp live wait list. We visited during happy hour (Tuesday thru Friday from 4pm to 6pm) to take advantage of their food specials. We had the coconut shrimp ($12, but $7 during happy hour) which are always good. We also had some fries ($7, but $5 during happy hour). They were good and a generous portion. She wanted to try the vegan (cauliflower) salt & vinegar wings ($14, but $9 during happy hour). They were breaded and fried well, but had very little flavor. There was just a light sprinkle of a salt & vinegar seasoning. More salt and a dash of malt vinegar on them, or a side of malt vinegar would have made them a lot better. The happy hour food was a good value and got something in our stomachs. My first cocktail was the Wilderness Badge (Tequila, Lemongrass, Basil, Bergamot, Lemon, $17). This was by far my favorite. I love Italicus liqueur and this drink had great bergamot flavor up front with a light basil flavor from the basil infused tequila. It was very balanced and I would have never guessed this was a tequila based cocktail. She started out with the Sasquatch Sighting (Jamacian Overproof Rum, Cynar, Mango, Molasses, Lime, $17). This was balanced, with a light bitterness and light sweetness with mango flavor. Next, I tried The Lost Camper (Demerara Rum, Thai Green Tea, Pineapple, Coconut, Lime, $16). It was a pineapple bomb with a hint of coconut. I didn't like it at all and actually sent it back. I did think the skeleton arm and hand swizzle stick was cool. It is served with the hand at the bottom, but I took the picture with it sticking out. Instead, I had the Black Sands from the regular cocktail menu (Bali Hai Pineapple Rum, Diplomatica Reserve Rum, Pineapple, Orange, Guava, Lime, Coco, charcoal, $18). It is served with a flaming lime and sugar cube. I've had this several times and love it. It has a great funky complex flavor. Next, she had the Naked & Afraid (Mezcal, Campari, Smoked Pineapple, Serrano, Passionfruit, Lemon, $17). This was really good with a great complex mix of smoke and bitterness with a little heat. She gulped it down, and I was lucky to get a few sips. We decided to share the last new cocktail, the Scouts Honor (Vokda, Peach, Mandarin, Orgeat, Lime, $16) so we could say we tried them all. It looks nice with a bright orange color, but it was very sweet and peach forward with a hint of orange. Our server Crystal was great, very friendly and provided great service. We started collecting mugs recently, and we bought the Belly of the Beast Monstro mug ($62) to take home. BOTB is their Pinocchio themed speakeasy in the back (separate reservation required). They also have several other Stowaway branded mugs available. This visit was definitely better than our last few. As far as the five new Summer Camp cocktails, two were excellent, one was good, one was ok, and one was not good. The food was good, and is a great value during happy hour.
