Fun fact: my family and I have been going to Islands since my daughter was in kindergarten. She is now 19. It has been with us through many birthdays, celebrations, and gatherings with school friends. This is our first time trying the Irvine location, and it has become one of our favorites. Islands Irvine is located inside Marketplace Plaza, and was not surprisingly busy when we arrived Sunday evening. What was a pleasant surprise is that we were seated almost immediately. Quick and friendly service truly made our visit enjoyable. The food was amazing! As always, we ordered their cheddar fries (our absolute favorite). Hubbie also ordered their bluenami burger with onion rings. We couldn't resist and ordered chicken tenders and Oreo shake. Everything was so fresh, and although the onion rings came out a bit late, we can tell they were right out of the oven. Also, their shakes are the best! Never too thick, but so rich in flavor. The quick service, fresh out of oven food, and our love for Islands made this trip very pleasant. Came here on a Saturday afternoon. We were able to get a table right away even though the restaurant was busy. We ordered grilled chicken breast sandwich which was very salty. I also ordered the spicy buffalo chicken wings, small tortilla soup and a double cheese burger. We also got a kids meal of Mac n cheese and sweet potato fries. I need to add more burger pics. It's been a long time since I updated my review. Islands is my go to spot when I want a nice simple burger. I always get the bluenami medium well on wheat. Fries with honey mustard. Sometimes we get onion rings or sweet potatoe fries. Both great. Beers are always good because they come in the coldest frosty mugs. As a lover of bleu cheese, I ordered my go to - Bleunami burger. I always ask for an extra side of bleu cheese crumbles. I upgraded my side to cheese fries, and to slack my considerable thirst, I added a root beer float. I would come here just for the root beer float, it's magical! I haven't been to an Islands in forever and I'm happy to report that this chain is still a great place for burgers and fries. We came for happy hour and it wasn't hard to find an open seat. The main reason we came was to try out their fun new Margarita Flight ($15). It comes with 4 flavors: classic, prickly pear, passion paradise and watermelon. They all tasted good but the best one was watermelon. Their happy hour menu consists of $3, $7 and $9 appetizers with most of them being $9. You can't go wrong with cheddar fries. I've always liked the size and crispness of their fries. But the best thing we got was the beachside sliders. You get 3 tasty sliders topped with caramelized onions and crispy onion strings. The spinach and artichoke dip was alright but the portion was so small and not worth $9. You should check out their happy hour if you can make it on weekdays between 3- 6:30pm. The only small hiccup was that my sister's order was entered incorrectly, which caused a bit of a delay in her food arriving. The staff caught the mistake right away, apologized sincerely, and quickly fixed it. It was just a little disappointing that the rest of us had nearly finished our meals by the time hers came out. A fun themed chain restaurant for burgers. There is decent parking in front of the restaurant. They have mostly indoor seating with regular tables as well as bar seating, but there is also some outdoor seating available. The food is decent and the burgers were cooked exactly as requested. The spinach artichoke dip was a fun appetizer to start the meal. It came out very warm was very cheesy. The fries come with any burger and they have a very good crunch to them. They give a decent amount of toppings for the burgers and they were cooked medium as requested. The fish tacos had a very thick and hard batter. The fish inside was a little bit dry and the taco overall was a little bit dry as well. It had okay flavor, but was definitely not my favorite. We were informed that they are no longer able to offer Kona pies as one of the free birthday desserts, so we opted for the chocolate lava. The brownie was nice and warm with several scoops of ice cream on top. It was a very good dessert and is definitely made for sharing. read more

got the hula burger, maui, and the tuna sandwich. honestly pretty decent and the atmosphere is nice if you want a chill and casual lively dinner. i like that their burgers are pretty easy to eat, and you can slice through with a knife really easily so you don't have to get your hands dirty at all. one complaint though, is their straws. i tend to bite my straws and the straws that they serve breaks so easily and the broken pieces can scratch your lips. also, once it's broke, it doesn't work anymore. read more

My friend wanted to go to Islands, so I went with him and another friend. The server was really nice and attentive--made sure we had everything we needed and got our order right. I ordered the Maui Burger, and my two friends got the Malibu Burger and the Big Wave Burger. My burger was just okay--nothing special. I felt like the flavors could've been better. The friend who got the Malibu Burger said it was "edible, not that great" and joked that In-N-Out would've been a better option. The other friend who had the Big Wave Burger said he actually enjoyed his. All the burgers came with fries, which I did like. We also got chips and salsa with guac, and that was pretty good too. My friend and I asked for ranch for the fries, but it had a bit of a weird aftertaste. Overall, I think I'm done going here. Just didn't hit the mark for me. read more

One of the worst restaurant experiences ever! It is 8:06 sat down at 7:18 pm the restaurant was clearly trying to close as they had no forks and would get one when ready. Fish tacos all breading and burnt 42 people in the restaurant and they decide to start closing the bar breaking it down tapping off beets and all liquor. We used to really enjoy Islands. Esp the one on Barranca. The Tustin Marketplace was a disappointment. The server was nice enough but... The table we sat down at was wiped & left wet & smelled like mildew. The floors were dirty! The menus were greasy.! The bathrooms were filthy & had no paper towels replaced! The meals came out but forgot salads & fries on all 4 orders & brought out late after we asked about them. Also when ordering & given choices instead of fries - we ordered the mixed vegetables & salad. When we looked at the bill, we charged $2.50 for each & more for the salad. We make really really really good burgers at home so we had pretty high expectations for islands. It was good - definitely not great. I got a classic cheeseburger. The bun was hard, the patty lacked flavor, and there was barely a sprinkle of Lettuce on my burger. We also ordered the fries with cheese and bacon. We paid $3 extra for bacon- literally there was 12 pieces of bacon on the fries. For the price we paid for these fries (I think $14-15 total) there should have been A LOT more bacon and green onions. I asked the togo specialist for ranch as we ordered curbside. They forgot the ranch so I had to go inside and ask which defeated the whole purpose of curb side as I didn't want to get out. I want to give a great shout out to Arianne (sorry if I am misspelling your name!) who helped us out Halloween evening during happy hour. She took on our table of 7 easily and seamlessly. We asked for drinks, water, food, and she put them out and never forgot a single order. It was a great time! I came in kinda late at 5 pm and they were able to put us inside a booth in the corner. Islands fries are great. The teriyaki burger is my favorite. The shore bird is also good. They have soda on tap which is much better that soda machines IMO. The service staff is very friendly and keep your glasses full of beverages. Came here on Friday evening around 5pm to try their happy hour. It was a busy evening but were able to find a spot at the bar to sit at. I had read that happy hour is only available at the bar or the patio but the patio was closed because it was raining. Regardless, we were seated and we decided to try a few things on the happy hour menu. We tried their beachside sliders with fried onions and it was tasty. I thought they were really good. The cheddar fries were ok. I wish they made cheese sauce instead of melted cheese but they were still good. Paired well with the side of ranch. We also tried their chips and salsa and added the large guacamole. The chips and salsa were good. The guacamole was not the greatest. You could taste the onions more than anything. There were big chunks of onions in it. Wish it came with slightly more salsa for the large amount of chips they give you. Overall this was a great happy hour to enjoy. After hearing rumors that the chain will be closing - we decided to stop by and have lunch. It was quite busy and it was about 15 mins before a table opened up for us. The menu is the same as it was for the past few years. I was feeling brave and picked the chili burger (Pipeline). My goto is usually the Hula. We got an order of nachos for the table and the truffle fries. I decided to share my basket of fries that came with my burger thinking the fries were bottomless (like most places are now) But they are not - when I asked for another basket, the waiter told me there was a fee.....fine. The nachos - they skimped on the chips. THE CHIPS!!!!!!!! The cheapest part of the nachos!!!!!! My Pipeline was good - but it did not satisfy my burger craving for some reason. Honestly, the best part of the meal, was the fries (just remember they're not bottomless). The service was slow and while the waiter was nice and friendly, the lunch crowd had thinned out and the waiter should have been quicker with the drink refills and the soup refills. I never understood why most of the TV's were showing old surf clips. I think it would be better if they had live sports on all of them. Just a thought. If you've ever been to Hawaii, you'll notice that the only folks that wear aloha shirts are the hospitality employees and the tourists. This is true at Islands lol. I asked again to sit at the larger booth as Chamber Members would later arrive. He said no. This continues to happen at this location. They're LOADED with salsa, guac, beans, cheese, tomatoes, jalapeños... and my hack is to get a side of their steamed veggies which includes broccoli and carrots, and then dumping that on top as well. These are a childhood staple for me and it's nice to know their quality has not gone down over all these years. Their happy hour prices and options are also quite affordable. We have been going to Island for at least 15 years and so disappointed with some of the changes. We have always chosen Islands for Happy Hour but over the years so many less food options. Went last night and ordered a glass of Kendall Jackson and was told there is no longer Happy Hour price on this wine, only for the house wine, Copper Ridge! That wine is awful! I will be going over to Lazy Dog where I can get a glass of J Lohr for $7.00 and a better selection of food for HH. I understand all about the economy but if you want to bring people in you need to offer something to get them in. read more
