Good size portions of tasty dishes we ordered: grilled chicken enchilada and beef burrito. At 5 PM on a Tuesday, we were seated in the bar area. A server brought quickly a basket of hot crunchy tortilla chips with red salsa. We ate all the chips and another basket of chips was brought to our table by our server. The restaurant has a relaxed atmosphere. I noticed diners were single, couples, families and large groups. My next visit will be to try the Happy Hour offerings. read more

That was the best cheese enchiladas with rice and bean combo that I have had in a long time! Our waiter, Richard, was friendly and great about checking in through out our meal. We like eating at the cantina, where the music playing over the speakers is fun and lively. Also highly recommend the pumpkin bread pudding, available for a limited time. I'll admit I couldn't taste pumpkin, but definitely got the fall spices. It was soooo delicious. I just finished eating my leftovers and am sad that it's now gone. Can't wait to come back again! Came here for happy hour and it was OK. The bacon-wrapped shrimp were tasty and the dipping sauce was good, too. The sirloin quesadilla is huge and the meat is on the chewy side, but overall OK as well. The chips and salsa are not very good but you'll eat a bunch anyway. The room is loud and the service can be kind of slow, too. There are better Mexican restaurants in Pasadena than El Torito, but if you want some cheap-ish Mex that's not too too bad feel free to hit them up for happy hour. read more

Went to El Torito Saturday night to celebrate a 69th birthday. The service was excellent, but the FOOD was absolutely magical. Grilled chicken salad like I have never eaten before. Giant serving, so there is a second meal there for me. The Watermelon and Cadillac margarita's were really tasty too . . . not big enough tho ;*) Our waiter, Richard was extremely accomodating and very welcoming and efficient. My friend came up from San Diego and she had worked at this site when it was a Casa Maria in the 80's . . . it was a neat experience for her too ! read more

I visted This location with my Family and I had the greatest experience/service from a staff member by the name of Christopher Greer. He went above and beyond to make sure we had a delightful dinner and all our food and drinks were delicious! Christopher made Us feel like family members of his own. We will definitely be returning back to this location on a regular because of the amazing customer service we received. I love El Torito. I am not from the area, but when I'm here visiting family it's always our first night dinner. The food tastes great and I look forward to it every time. Our first hint of the night we were gonna have should have been overhearing workers talking about how management should have called in more people in to work. I came tonight and man was I disappointed. We had a decent size party, but nothing ridiculous. We ordered and then were completely ghosted for a long time. Our chips were empty, our drinks ran dry and we just sat and sat. Finally there was a refill on these things and we were assured our food was coming out. The first two dishes came out after a wait of 20 minutes and were completely cold. The next two people's dishes came out another 10 minutes later. At least the food was hot for the second round of people. My son ordered a kids meal, and got his dish after everyone was just about done, BUT IT WAS THE WRONG MEAL!!! He had to wait again for his actual order and he was eating after the rest of us were done. For a kid meal, it was a total bummer to have a 10 year old wait for so long for burger sliders. Our server was apologetic and I don't think it was his fault, maybe a kitchen issue. Just a bummer issue for a place we've come to for so long. read more

It was unfortunate that the waiter refused to wait on us when the host was seating us. He told the host not to seat us in his section because he already had a large party there. He looked overwhelmed. It doesn't seem appropriate to do that in front of customers.Thankfully, the host sat us there and found us another waiter who was very polite and friendly. read more

Had a great experience at El Torito's Sunday brunch! The food was delicious as always and I loved that it includes bottomless mimosas. I like that they bring out the orange juice separately so you can put as much or as little ;) as you want. They brought out a churro pancake that ended up being one of my favorite parts of the meal. Then we order an almost $20 salad and it came with about $2 worth of lettuce and rotting avocados. More rotten avocados on the sides. This cannot be a bowl of soup. We got here around 2pm, and we sat at the bar. The bartender forgot to give is a menu, and the manager noticed us and asked if we decided on a drink but we haven't since we never got the menu so he finally gave us the menu. We got our drinks and it didn't taste like there was any liquor on there, and mind you, I'm a lightweight. I ended up asking for another shot of tequila. I ordered the tacos vampiros and that was great. Unfortunately the service was really slow, they seemed short staffed on a Wednesday afternoon. read more

There is something wrong with this location. Saturday night at 9 PM when they do not close until midnight-- the ambiance felt like a dreadful hospital environment, The lighting is all whitewashed led light, And the server is the host AND waiter, HE is the only one serving the entire restaurant... On a saturday night.... Like it's a diner in the middle of a desolate ghost town.... super freaky vibes... and the host/waiter had us wait 15 minutes before making contact w us so we left....he tried to argue about us leaving, which is my perogative...if the customer service is lacking. No water, no chips after 15 minutes...I couldnt risk waiting two hours to get my food. Very poor management, operation, very rude and unattentive service, very greedy and cheap to have only one man serve as a waiter and host as busy as it was....totally bizarre. It felt like knott's scary farm last night.... and the walls so white w creepy white LED lighting it feels like a hospital or an unfinished project And they do not employ anyone and they treat you like it's a government facility.... But what truly sets El Torito apart is the service. Despite being packed during a busy Christmas party, the manager took the time to make us feel special and ensured we had everything we needed. My wife was craving Mexican food, so I suggested El Torito, as it's been over 30 years since I last visited this chain restaurant. Once tasting their food, it tasted more westernized than I recollect and the atmosphere was not festive, at least during lunch. The wait staff were good, but not the greatest I've had, but that's probably because it was a lunch time meal. I'm now going to search for the best Mexican food restaurant for 2024 as my New Year resolution! read more

The waitress snootily informed us that, oh she didn't take the time to explain it to us because it seemed obvious, but it's not buy one get one free immediately and you can share it with someone else. It's buy one, then once you drink it, you get another one. But if someone else at the table wants to drink it, they will charge you for another margarita. That is very dumb and it was very sneaky and convenient how the waitress didn't explain what it meant. Then, to top it all off, they include a 20% gratuity on parties of 6 or more, and they have the audacity to ask for additional tip! Make sure to check your receipt. We didn't leave a single extra damn dime for this place. Firstly because they already took their 20%, and secondly because the service was absolute trash. Would never recommend coming here, and I hope some better restaurant replaces this one on Colorado soon.
