When we arrived we were seated right away and our waitress greeted us within a few moments. She came back after a couple minutes asking if we were ready to order and we asked for a couple more minutes and ended up waiting around 10 minutes for her to come back and take our order. It wasn't busy in the restaurant at the time, so there were only about 3 other tables. Service started off strong but declined as the night went on. We got our food quite quickly and it was good! I got chicken, cheese, and rice (basic I know) and the chicken was wonderful and my only suggestion would be more queso. The chips and salsa were also phenomenal! Some of the best I've had! We haven't been here in over a year, because they consistently leave toppings off their meals. However, we decided to give them yet another chance and go for 2 for 1 margaritas. I ordered a taco salad and of course they didn't put guacamole on it. I pointed it out to the waiter and he offered to bring us a small guacamole and charge us for it. Really?? We just moved to Murfreesboro from Southern Nevada and we were already missing Mexican food, so we decided to try El Toro. The street tacos were great, the smothered burrito was also quite good. The tamale was ok. Rice and beans were very tasty as well. I ordered a margarita from the menu but was told they only had beer, which was disappointing but not a heart-breaker. The service was outstanding. We will try some other local Mexican spots but we'll give El Toro another try in future. read more

It's a ok spot to go for dinner/lunch. But service isn't very quick. We were waiting over 20 minutes for our waiter. Food maybe good but still we shouldn't wait almost half a hour for our waiter to come by. We had to get one of the managers to finally come, our original waiter never came by till we got the manager . The manager was very nice though and handled the issue. Ate here for trivia night and the food was bad and 1 hour after leaving my whole family got food poisoning. Bad start when you wait 10 minutes to be seated and workers are passing you and acting like you don't exist or say: hey we'll be with you in a second or a simple be right there. So we're thinking- do we just seat ourselves? We start walking around and another table mentions they just had to sit down and get moved because no one sat them and then they got mad they sat themselves. When we finally got seated there was no silverware, server was hardly present and was extremely blunt not allowing us to finish our sentences or express our needs. The nachos were a pile of meat on top of tortilla chips with cheese- no lettuce tomato or sour cream or any toppings and asked the server about it and she said you have to ask for each item to be put on it- ( Just a heads up!) I asked for the Jamaica fresca and got mango instead.The flan was horrible- they both looked different, one looked like the traditional flan and the other was spongey looking and cut like a cake slice. Both had completely different textures from each other and shapes. It makes me gag thinking about how the dishes they came on gave off a weird smell. I don't think it was washed. They just opened so they are still getting there stuff together, but overall I was unimpressed. The food by itself was probably 3.5 stars however the 45 minute wait that was only suppose to be 15 minutes didn't help. The only reason we were sat then was because I had gone and asked what the deal was with the wait twice. The idea of the restaurant is pretty cool, but the decorations are pretty cheesy. Drinks were cheap, that's a plus, but we couldn't get refills because the waiter wasn't around much. I might try it again in a month or so, but probably not. read more

Service was awesome. Chips tasted like grocery store quality. I ordered an dish that came with four different enchiladas and it was just okay. I was expecting more in regard to the flavor since the enchiladas were listed as a signature dish on the menu. I loved the margaritas though! They had to be my favorite by far here in Murfreesboro. Wow! This place rocks. Extremely large menu and very diverse. Brand new! Big table next to me talked about how this was the second time this week, it was only Wednesday!! The chips were fresh and salsa good...not overly salty or spicy. The best thing was the "homemade Guacamole"...yeowser! It was FRESH and very chunky... not mushy. Good Luck staying in business. We walked in and found a table in the bar area. We were told we had to check in with the hostess and the bar was not open seating. We went up front to the hostess and was told that it would be 20 minutes or so. I told them we would sit at the bar and order a beer until our table was ready. Believe it or not we were told we could not sit at the bar because they didn't have enough staff to get us a beer. This is the best California style Mexican restaurant in Murfreesboro. A step above Chuy's and miles ahead of any other Mexican restaurant. We tried El Toro on a recent Friday night and overall felt the experience was lackluster. There was a wait which we anticipated of a new spot on a Friday night. However; after seeing multiple families who arrived after us be seated we were told that our name had accidentally been skipped over. Although the hostess apologized, we watched as two other parties were seated ahead of us in spite of what had just happened. After we were seated service was friendly but very,very disorganized. Food runners repeatedly attempted to deliver plates to incorrect tables and the dining room staff seemed overwhelmed. Refills were difficult to come by and the chips were borderline stale. When our food did arrive the order was correct and the portions were huge BUT nothing was hot and everyone felt their food was quite bland. The menu consistently noted different seasoning methods and spices so we were surprised that even the basics like salt and pepper were missing. Typically I would give a restaurant experience like this two stars but because it is new, our server was excellent and the prices are low given the portion sizes I am going with a three star review. We may try them again after they've established themselves more but I do think they are going to have to make some big changes if they hope to succeed. Went to El Toro recently with friend for lunch the was good and they had great margaritas but the service was horrible the waitress seemed bothered to have to serve us we asked for extra chips and she didnt bother bring it to us. First, the salsa. It is NOT salsa. It tastes exactly like pizza sauce. I ordered a fajita burrito with red sauce instead of the cream sauce. Well, that red sauce is the pizza sauce. No enchilada sauce. The chicken was good, but the steak was nasty. Too chewy. My meal was supposed to come with beans and rice, which never came. I ate the chicken out of the burrito. The waiter finally came to only give us the check, not to check on the food. I ordered a second margarita (the ONLY good thing abut this dinner) and it never came. Sour cream never came either.
