Mapo Tofu - 4/5 Very spicy, but the flavor was excellent and the tofu was silky and perfectly cooked. Sweet & Sour Chicken (Korean Style) - 2.5/5 It was good, but nothing really stood out. I'm not sure what made it "Korean style" since it tasted more like a classic Chinese sweet and sour chicken. Golden Shrimp - 5/5 This was everyone's favorite. The salted egg yolk flavor was just right, and the shrimp were fresh, juicy, and cooked perfectly. Truffle Fried Rice - 3/5 It smelled amazing as soon as it hit the table, but it felt like it was missing that smoky wok hei flavor that really makes fried rice stand out. Soup Dumplings - 4/5 The soup dumplings were juicy, flavorful, and delicious. A solid choice. Overall, we had a good meal with friendly service. Goes to show they don't mess when it comes to flavors. The Salted Duck Egg Tofu is phenomenal--only complaint is that I had to share it. Otherwise, I would've finished it all alone. Love seeing an all tendon dish. USA needs more of this. Yummy, chewy texture. Very tasty broth--reminds me of Vietnamese pho. The workers are so kind and playful too. The online menu was not updated to reflect the menu they were serving in house while I was there, and that still seems to be the case now. We were excited to try happy accident mumbo hake w/soy bean crisp, which was a delight, the mapo tofu gnocchi, which tasted like it sounds, the grilled prawns in a herbaceous green sauce, which had good flavor, and the whole grilled squid with squid ink lo mein, which was probably the best bite on the table, but one that is obviously easy to like. I was quite surprised that the baos were not as well executed. The surf clam bao in particular was very chewy and hard to eat as a whole. The pickled mustard green fried rice was also overly greasy and not salty enough. Since we were seated in the backyard we found that our servers didn't come over to our tables often, and they also seemed overwhelmed when we were able to make eye contact, so our meal ended up being much longer than we planned. It was exciting to see Eddie Huang himself perched at the bar counter in the front of the restaurant, wearing his signature buddha jade pendant. It seems he's often there, because I've had friends report seeing him there on other nights as well. I think he accomplished what he set out to do, which is to put together a creative and ambitious menu with dishes I haven't seen elsewhere, in a lively space that feels very inviting and appropriate for St. Mark's.
