Eleanor's is the neighborhood speakeasy. Go into Muss & Turner's make a Northeast beeline from the entrance to the back corner, open the cooler door, take a right down the hallway, and then another right past the bathroom, and you will be dumped into Eleanor's -- Am I still in Smyrna? Or did I enter Narnia? But actually, it practically is too cool for Smyrna. Along one side of the dark room is cozy lounge seating, and then on the other is the bar. You can order food from Muss & Turner's, but Eleanor's is open usually an hour or so later after the kitchen closes. Crowd is a mix--some young professionals in the area, and then maybe some folks in their 40s. The night before the SEC championship, practically half of the bar was Alabama alumni. They have a standard specialty cocktail list with a dozen or so house drinks--but I will say the Moscow Mule's ended up being cheaper than I thought they were going to be ($8), I'm not sure if they were having a special though. My only complaint is the way that they handle checks and tabs. They swipe and then hand your card back to you, and then if you are at a table there is a separate tab for the table. If you are with a friend, they might put you on the same tab and then say they will divvy it up at the end of the night. If all of this sounds wishy-washy, it's because it is. I feel like everyone should just have a tab, let the bar keep track of the cards, and then close at the end of the night (like every other bar). Both times I've been here, the tab didn't come out correctly on the first time. I've been to Eleanor's twice. Once by accident, and once, just the other night on purpose. The first time was while waiting for a table at Muss & Turner's. We had no idea it was back there. Honestly, you get the feeling that they are leading you to where they are going to hide your body. It's a long walk through a "freezer" door and a little maze. Speakeasy is what they call it. Exactly. Aside from that, it's a cute little bar. Definitely little, with only a handful of tables to sit down at. The bar itself is nice and long so getting a seat there isn't impossible. The decor is dark and upscale. No pool tables (they wouldn't fit anyways), dart boards, or jukebox. Just a calm place to have a drink. Drinks have ample pours, and the wine list is very good. As far as bars go, this is a pretty nice one to have to wait for a table at. We liked enough to go back and just have a couple of drinks, this time after dinner downtown. read more

The speak easy theme is a nice gimmick and I like bringing people here and and not tell them it's a speak easy. I love the look on their face when we bypass the hostess stand and go through the freezer door. All the food I've had here has been very good. I've had the burger here a few times and it is excellent. I also had the pork skins (not my choice) but it was also delicious. I'm not a pork rind fan but my brother ordered it and I'm so glad I got to try it. The jalapeno infused vinegar that comes with it tastes incredible! I almost took the guys had off when he tried to take the vinegar away when we were done with the pork rinds. It was that good. The drinks are unique and very well made. It's a little pricy but not really out of the ordinary in Atlanta. read more

So much fun at Eleanor's. Went recently for the Sunday Ramen night and was not disappointed. The rest of my crew ordered from the regular menu but I loved getting the opportunity to build my own ramen bowl. Noodles were cooked just right with a bit of bite on them and egg had some good creaminess. Definitely will be back for some Sunday night ramen deliciousness! read more

Very eccentric, local, and fresh menu. Technically, we sat in Eleanor's but the food was from Muss & Turner's. Our group enjoyed the wings and Charcuterie appetizers. The beer choices were also diverse and tasty. Our dinner plates ranged from the burger, chicken & dumplings, to the pork loin plates. All were delicious though the chicken & dumplings was a smaller-than-expected portion. Great vibe and atmosphere! read more

Went here on 10/26/18 w/ my gf and our two friends we are in town visiting, their suggestion and it did not disappoint!! All of us enjoyed a Brown Trasher or two, the signature drink, a smokey bourbon cocktail with just a hint of maple. I ordered the Mussalata, a savory blend of Italian meats and cheeses, topped with Calabrian pepper tapenade and piquillo pepper aioli, both of which have the delicious sandwich a complementary tasty kick / zip. Fries were meh, but I'm not a fry guy, so factor that into your own opinion as you will. Had a bite of my gf's Phillystine, and next time I'm here I'll have a tough time picking between those two sandwiches. Loved the decor and vibe of this speakeasy within Muss & Turner's, will be a must stop each time I'm back in town. read more

With its speak easy theme, I have to admit Eleanor's has become one of my favorite "nicer" bars. It's small, dark and somewhat quiet which makes it a great place to hang with 1-3 friends. Although I have seen groups here, it would not be an ideal group place for me. The drinks are usually pretty Good though on the pricey side. There were two bar tenders working there before who were amazing with the drinks. I had wine and beer the last couple times so I am not sure about the new staff. I would suggest the Cumberland Blvd. There is a really nice beer and wine selection. If you know wine and beer you will find that the selection while OK is a bit over priced for what you are getting. But I guess it's the nature of being out. The food is also pretty good. The wings are a must try. They come with a cucumber yogurt sauce which is very light and tasty. I am not a fan of beets but did enjoy the beet humus. It tastes likes beets but feels like humus. The Burger is really good choice if you feel like having one. Overall the food is worth trying. The Mac and Cheese seemed to bed missing a little flavor last time I was there and was a bit too sweet. Don't have that be the first thing you try if you are making an assessment. The mussels can be left in the kitchen. I ordered them last night and must say I was really disappointed. The sauce had very little flavor or UMPH to it. The mussels also did not taste fresh. It had that strong oceanic flavor. Over all the food is Good. Just pass on the mussels . The service is nice as well by the way. read more

I finally ended up in here. A few times now, all in a row. Unfortunately divergent experiences. The first time my girlfriend and I hit it up after dinner at South City. Sat at the bar and had a great time. They have a good list of both hard and harder drinks and the bartenders are social and know their stuff. Food wise its M&T food so you can't really go wrong. For this experience I would give it 5 stars. The second time we did a happy hour after work with about a dozen people. This was, at best, a 3 star day. The food was the same, the booze was the same and the difference was we sat at the tables. We might as well have been on a deserted island. Service was spottier than a cell phone on MARTA. We had to give up and just keep going to the bar any time we wanted a new drink and/or snack. And its not because they were busy, it was before the dinner rush and the place was half empty. 3rd time, back at the bar and excellent again. So basically just belly up to the bar. Or don't, why would I care? Just leaves more room there for me. As for the bar itself, I love the layout and the concept. Its a more casual take on the "speakeasy" and not a craphole full of smoke like the most famous one in town. Its quite dark, if you have old eyes bring a flashlight. Its intimate/small and well decorated. The customers who hang out in there all act like its a real tight knit group and are very amiable, its an easy place to make new acquaintances. Im going to have to find an excuse to rent out the private dining room, it looks like a nice place to have a family get together. read more

I think the secret is out! Living in Smynings, this is one of our go to spots for dinner. For the most part, we always have a wonderful experience. There's been a couple of times where the service could be a little better (at the tables). This place is usually pretty crowded depending on the night of the week, but we've never had a problem getting a table or a couple of seats at the bar. The bartenders are my favorite here! They're very passionate about their job and are always open to suggesting a drink for you. Old Fashions are A+ here. As for the food, we always order the wings and Pommes Frites with the mayo sauce it comes with. Every fish I have ordered from here has been tasty as well and of course, you have to try their burger at least once. read more

After a recent renovation, their space has evolved - greatly. M&T still has the same great vibe... but, all of the sudden, now there's "Eleanor's @ Muss and Turner's" - As I decided to call it. Eleanor's, named for one of their major inspirations, is a departure. Enter through a "freezer door" - walk down a dimly lit hallway - make the turn: You're in another world. It's a low-light departure that offers a full bar and menu with the same style M&T is known for. Inside, you can decide what day it is; what time it is - and, if you like, where it is. Like I said, it's a low-light environment. Personally, I love spaces like this. It's a small space but, it has an interesting decor that doesn't force itself on you. Simply: Relax. Enjoy. I think you'll like this new addition. Mind you - as of this posting - 11 May, 2012 - it's very new. But, I'm sure they will evolve this space again and again. I think it's cool. My friends and I ended up here after my birthday dinner at South City. I thought it was very cool that we went through fake freezer door to the back where the bar is. Like others have stated it's got a very speak-easy vibe to it. I like old timey stuff so yay. We sat in the curved booths and some table a chairs. The drink menu was small but you can also order other things you like as well. However I was dissapointed when they didn't have Deasarono. I should have prefest any amoreto would've been fine. Anyway I thought the drink menu was very inventive. I would love to come back here. I think it would be great for a first date. read more

The bar was so cool, we decided to scoot over to a larger table when it opened up and stay to eat dinner there. The difference between the bar scene and restaurant is like night and day - literally. It is very dark in the bar and dimly lit by votive candles on each table. When you emerge back into the restaurant, you have to squint, it's so bright. Our hostess told us it was louder in the restaurant so we were glad we stayed put. I tried the Corpse Reviver that had absinthe in it. I could barely taste some liquorice but the drink was mostly citrusy and very refreshing. read more

The atmosphere here is absolutely perfect. Dim lights, rustic but modern decor, comfortable seating. The food is great, no "bar food" to be found. The cocktails are out of this world! Shaun, the bartender, can make anything you can think of. I've been on multiple nights where he was working, both on a date and with a large group of girls. Each time he was quick with delicious creative drinks, ideas for pairing with our meal, and was always helpful and attentive. I went here few months back but never write a review. We entered through the cool refrigerator door into the restaurant. For drunks we ordered Bloody Mary's, which was very good. I also ordered s drink that the bartender freelance it was a bit sweet, but also good. We both ordered the grilled chicken sandwich, which was made in the Green Egg!! BEST chicken sandwich I've ever had. I don't eat bacon , so o got mine without and it was delicious. Not filled with extra sauce or dressing. Just smoked and seasoned well. Plain and very tasty!! For starters, I LOVED the fact that this was a hole in the wall (or freezer) literally... just as everyone has already mentioned you simply walk straight past the hostess stand and into a candle-lit freezer. When you walk out, you have the feeling you are in a wine cellar. The lighting is very dark and intimate and it has a very "secret, underground" feeling like a 1920s speakeasy. It was a very quiet, laid back atmosphere and OMG those drinks! The cocktails were unreal. We met up with a few friends for drinks and munched on the satiable fries and had the rabbit rillette. The menu was based on Muss and Turner. It was delicious! Note the service wasn't the best, but it is definitely not a get in-get out spot. Eleanor's is a super neat, tucked away bar in the back of Muss & Turner's (similar to a speakeasy, but no password is required). I've brought my boyfriend here for a date night and have also went out with my girlfriends for cocktails on girl's night, too. That being said, the atmosphere is great for a fun date or night on the town. You can still order Muss & Turner's food until a certain time and eat down there, and the cocktails are amazing! The servers really know their stuff as well as the bartenders, and they're always super friendly and nice. I would suggest this place to anyone looking for a neat environment to enjoy great company and drinks! read more

Thank goodness our friends showed us how to get back to the bar, because it's certainly hidden (as a speakeasy should be!). Make sure to come before 10:30 when the main restaurant closes.
