The waiter is super slow, didn't even ask if we need anything; no one was adding water unless we ask for it; waited to get the check for like 20mins cause he didn't even come to our table, and it's not because he was too busy because the tables are not full. Don't be fooled to think that because there are pictures of England decorating the walls that this pub is a good place to catch a soccer match. We asked to watch the game and got sat next to a TV that was showing something else. After asking numerous times to get it switched we finally grabbed the remote ourselves to discover the remote was broken. Then the worse part- never got water, coffee was horrible,15- minute wait for a bloody mary, 30-minute wait for eggs and in the end we had to find our server near the POS to pay the check. read more

This place was connected to the lobby of our hotel, so we decided to give it a try. We had the Bruschetta Chicken Sandwich and the Hot Turkey Sandwich. Both were very good and we really had no complaints on the food. The only thing that was annoying was the long wait time for our food when the restaurant looked as if only 25% of the tables were occupied. Very inexpensive and VERY GOOD FOOD! read more

We were traveling and this place was near out hotel so we decided to try it. The food was fine but in my opinion, the service was exceptional. So exceptional in fact, we ate 3 meals here over the course of our weekend. We had different waitresses all 3 times and all of them were efficient, friendly and extremely nice to our toddler, which we deeply appreciated. I cannot get over all of the poor reviews- I understand when it's busy it is mobbed. That said I have never had a bad meal or a watered down drink (I don't think...) nor have I ever felt ignored. All in all I always have a great experience here and get takeout on occasion during lunch. read more

We stopped in here because it is connected to our hotel (Club Quarters). Our server was very friendly-- gave us out-of-towners a lot of tips and tourist ideas. Had a veggie omelet and it was perfect. Great place! read more

We dropped by for a quick bite today around 3 PM. I had some great fish & chips (plenty of good tasting fish, non-creamy cole slaw & a very tasty tartar sauce). Reasonable pub food, but I like the environment. Yes, it can get rowdy, but hey, it's a pub. If you happen to be working downtown, it's a convenient location within walking distance for happy hours after work. Otherwise, if I have to drive, I probably wouldn't have come here. It's impossible to find street metered parking in downtown Boston, and you would have to park in garage. read more

I have run large (100-person) travel events since 2010, and I can tell you that I have scoured the entire Boston area and have never found a 100-person event venue as affordable, accommodating, and friendly as Elephant and Castle. I have held FIVE large events there over the past three years, and will keep coming back for more! read more

Oh no E&C, what have you done?! I fell in love with the chicken fingers and honey mustard probably 5 years ago in Chicago. When I found out there was one in Boston, my office started going there for special luncheons and were all very impressed. Well, my office recently moved closer to E&C and were excited that it could be our new regular lunch place...well we hadn't been there in a year...and things have definitely change. The décor, ambiance and beer are still top notch, but the change in the menu did not go well. My beloved chicken fingers and honey mustard that I have always raved about have been replaced with obviously frozen chicken and fig sauce?? What? They didn't even have any other options for dipping, and the fig sauce was weird, kind of spicy Asian. My co-workers were not impressed by their choices either. The chicken pot pie apparently has a spicy gravy, not liked by my friend. Another co-worker got a entrée salad, which was very small, side salad size. The sliced steak sandwich also only got a so-so review. I'm not sure what was wrong with the original menu, we were always happy with it. Unfortunately the good service and ambiance isn't enough for us to frequent the pub without the food to back it up. read more

Went here for my first (and last) time. It was evident within 5 minutes they have no training systems in place. Our waitress was new and fairly hapless; too bad she had no support from management. Granted everyone has a bad day/ night at work, but I'll be willing to bet this is the norm here rather than an exception. When we asked what was on draft, the waitress turned and squinted at the taps (I don't know, I probably would have written them down). We had two incorrect (separate) drink orders and an incorrect food order from staff other than our waitress dropped on our table (followed by bewildered walking away staring at a receipt). We probably should have just drank what they gave us though, as it took an excessive amount of time to get anything, To add insult to injury, when I checked my bank statement, apparently my card was run 3 separate times, for which I now need to deal with the bank. Given the plethora of other decent options in the area, there is absolutely no need to waste your time/ money on this place. The hot pretzel that I eventually got was good. read more

"Meh, I've experienced better." is definitely fair. Writing a fair review is a challenge with how our evening went when we visited for a portion of our Bachelorette party for a lucky lady. We arrived 2 hours early before Paint Nite, we made the hostess aware of our time commitment. We were seated right away, but then 20 minutes went by before one of the other bridesmaids went to find out what happened to our waitress. There was more of a long wait for water, then more of a long wait for an appetizer and an apologetic waitress. More and more time went by before a few of the bridesmaids cancelled their dinner orders because it was already start time for Paint Nite and there was still no waitress or food to be seen. My blood sugar began to crash and the manager was very helpful to help advert a health crisis by bringing out something to help it out. Lots more happened, but the manager was kind enough to apologize, let us know it was an unusual night for him and his staff, and he comped our bill. What food we did have there was really good. The poor waitress seemed like she was on her first night with a first job and simply seemed overwhelmed, so I left her a $10 tip for her efforts and hope her experience goes better. All in all, I'm pleased they at least tried. We ended up going to Cheers across town where we were squeezed in as the last sit-down meal of the evening. Lesson learned- never try to squeeze in dinner at any busy restaurant before an event like Paint Nite. I learned later there was also a mystery dinner downstairs...double-whammy!! read more

I only got takeout for lunch so I cannot say much about interior conditions and atmosphere. It is a very well put together place. A rustic design, very warm and comforting. I got the bacon wrapped meatloaf. The meal was very good. The seasoning in the meatloaf was flavorful and complemented the meat very well. There is a beef gravy on it which is also tasty. Now that being said, it isn't served as the traditional slices of beef. It came as 4 small patties (picture sliders) wrapped in bacon. Not very filling. Even though the first impression was just average, it won't deter me from going again. You can't judge a book by it's cover and you can't judge a restaurant by 1 meal. I'll be back. read more

We got drinks quickly but then waited for our apps for about 30 minutes and got our main course 5 minutes later. I got a burger. Seems to be something fresh out of the Costco freezer section. No flavor. The bacon on the burger claimed to be peppered, it was just fatty bacon. Fries were OK. The Thyme Less drink I got was just watered down tequila. It claimed to have strawberries in it. I got none. Now for ordering. We ask for their hibiscus honey drink. They were out at 8pm at night. They were also out of the truffle parm chips. Their traditional poutine was not. This place is very close to my office so my coworkers and I go here when we are uninspired to venture elsewhere. The food is quite good, however the service is terrible. First of all they have an asinine rule where you cannot sit unless your entire party is there. For rush hour I can understand, but at 11:00am on a monday when the place is deserted, this makes no sense. Yet they strictly enforce it. Ive been here probably 5-6 times and each time we have had a terrible unfriendly waitress. It's actually a running joke among my coworkers: food is good, waitresses are awful. This is not a restaurant I would recommend to tourists if they want a good dining experience in Boston. read more

We stayed next door in the Club Quarters and the Elephant and Castle was definitely the highlight of our stay. With all the delicious food options available in Boston, we found ourselves coming back to the E&C. The food is amazing and so well priced. I've been here a few times and have always received good service - quick, friendly, and attentive. Ya, it's not gourmet, and the waitstaff won't stop running long enough to conversate with you like many other restaurants but they really know how to take care of their guests. The food is generally good too. I love the fish n chips, shepherd's pie, and desert. Skip the chowder though, it's a little bland. The list of beer is extensive too and they also have several functions rooms downstairs that can accomodate more than 100 people for parties and events. If your in the area definately check this place out. read more
