I have never had anything that was bad or average at Eleven. The best steak I ever ate came from here - it was a beef tenderloin that had this exceptional crust on it... I have no idea how they did it, but I have tried and failed numerous times to re-create it. ~ However I did have their eggs benedict and I still think mine are better when I do it right :D It is a very nice restaurant with an upscale feel to it, but they don't require a dress code which I love because I prefer not to dress up anywhere. "Eleven" has become our place for celebrating, because we feel so pampered by the ambiance, food, and waitstaff. As the food changes seasonally, the menu always has some surprisingly delightful elements. We went for our anniversary in August, and peaches were a featured item and were used in creative ways: both in the golden beet salad and the amazing peach mousse dessert, pictured in this review. The "je ne sais quoi" in the salad was a sprinkling of toasted coriander in the pistachio pesto. Yes, it's that attention to culinary detail that keeps us returning. I had a Big Burrito gift card burning a hole in my wallet for a few years now ... so on a recent visit to Pittsburgh, I decided to finally cash it in at Eleven (one of the only restaurants in their group that I had not yet been to). I easily made reservations for me, my husband, and my siblings. Located in the Strip District, it's easy to get to from the city or the burbs, and we were grateful to find easy street parking close to Eleven. When we arrived, I was shocked at how large the space was! I had no clue there were multiple floors and private rooms - you can certainly pack a lot of people in. We were seated on the top floor, which was a bit more secluded and nice. The ambience is dark and moody, but it also felt very classy and had some speakeasy vibes to it. Definitely very on-theme decor and furniture! The menu at Eleven is compact, which I always appreciate as it helps me make decisions easier. The menus are rotated based on seasonal items, and I love that they use locally sourced products for nearly all their main ingredients. For cocktails, my sister and I both got the Pears Well, which we enjoyed - loved the purple color and the touch of peppercorn accompanying the fruit. My husband and brother both went for the Manhattan, which they both enjoyed as well. For meals, I opted for the pork chop (very unlike me!) - featuring figs and a squash puree, it felt right for the time of year (winter) and it hit the spot. I loved the inclusion of the figs to give a touch of sweetness, and the pork was nicely cooked - I don't often get pork out, so I was very pleasantly surprised at the preparation! My dining partners all similarly enjoyed their meals! Overall, we had a great time at Eleven. It's definitely on the "finer" end of the Big Burrito group, and a solid option for a quality meal in Pittsburgh. Of course, the prices reflect the quality and the locally sourced ingredients, which is my only "complaint" - although I would much rather pay for a meal like this. Wow. This place was phenomenal. The location was great. They do have a valet, which was $6. I felt bad for the one guy working, though. And the vibe was welcoming. The food? The breads: raisin sunflower, sourdough, and a sea salt focaccia. All great. The raisin sunflower was my favorite. Nothing was more overpowering the other. The sea salt focaccia is salty for sure. They had a wide range of different wines and cocktails that I think everyone can find something they like. Everything was a fair price. The appetizers were a grilled chicken skewer with Tahiti sauce and it was good, but that vegetable tempura? Wow. Delightful. It was a maitake mushroom and they are so good on their own, but batter it and fry it with a spicy mayo sauce? So good. The salmon was cooked to a perfect medium and was flavorful and juicy. The salad was also fresh and everything worked well together. The corn gave it a nice sweetness with a bit of a crunch. The Romano cheese was earthy and salty that really brought all the flavors together. A perfect blended salad. The dessert trio consisted of a chocolate cake with espresso icing, a cookie butter tart and a cream puff. That chocolate cake? Heaven. I really enjoyed that the most of the 3. They were all delicious though. And all different too. The cake was a more dense and rich dessert. The cookie butter was a more sweet and creamy dessert and the cream puff was a nice light and fresh dessert. Very well done all around. The wait stage was EXCELLENT. Booked dinner here while in town for literally one day on the way to KY from NY. The bread to start was so yummy --- butter was perfect room temperature with coarse salt on top. Two pieces of focaccia, two whole grain with cranberries, and one sourdough. All were awesome and for just two people, a big serving!! Our server, Katya, was very friendly and knowledgable. To start, my husband ordered a Manhattan (very well made), and I ordered the Salty Dogz (a gin based cocktail). I appreciated Katya's honesty when she mentioned that many diners are not usually happy with that cocktail. I opted for their Sazerac instead, which had a hint of watermelon-peach cognac to distinguish it from a normal Sazerac, and I was very pleased. For our appetizer, we opted for the pea and pancetta arancini (rice balls). There were three on the plate, a little larger than golf ball size. Perfectly crisp on the outside, without being a super thick 'crust.' The risotto inside was delicious- perfectly cooked. The pancetta was right in the center of the ball, so you didn't necessarily get it with every bite, and it also wasn't super overwhelming. The spices atop the arancini were a delicious paprika and drizzled with a truffle honey. For the main course, my husband ordered the braised short ribs with a smoked polenta. It was cooked so well - so tender and melted in your mouth. Very good dish. He had a glass of the Smith & Hook Proprietary Blend (red) and loved it. I'm so torn on my salmon-- it was served with peas, lobster, and asparagus -- all were SO delicious. The salmon was cooked perfectly - I asked for it to be cooked more on the medium side. Unfortunately it was very salty - that was my one complaint. I had a glass of the Bila-Haut Grenache Rose and really liked it. We decided to skip dessert, but each had a glass of Graham's 20-year tawny port ($15 each). We were also given two little bites of dessert on the house -- basically a homemade mini Reese's peanut butter cup. A nice touch! $165 (before tip) for 2 cocktails, 1 appetizer, 2 entrees, 2 glasses of wine, and 2 dessert wines. The restaurant is pretty, but a little disjointed. I think it's obnoxious when the hostess won't seat you unless your entire party is present so this was a nice gesture. I was in town for work, which just happened to be on my birthday, so I stopped in for a special dinner at Eleven. I learned about this place from social media, it was referred to me by someone I trust, who knows the food scene in the Allegheny/PGH area. I got here around 8PM and it was packed, but I was able to find a single seat at the bar. I tend to enjoy dining at the bar when alone, as the bartenders usually chat and do a great job with keeping up with dinner and drink service and this was no exception... There were three bartenders and each were interchangeable, meaning they each gave great service, like they were the primary server. I love when restaurants offer team service like this! I had a glass of wine while deciding what to order, which was nice and their menu had plenty of nice options, which made it hard to decide what to order. I ultimately opted for their Hanger Steak & Fries and the steak's temp was prepared perfectly! Only issue was it had slightly too much finishing salt on it. The fries were outstanding! Their table bread is also excellent! I opted for their dessert called Banoffee Crème Brûlée, which is described as a mix of everything from crème brûlée to banana cream pie... it was amazing and definitely shareable, even tho it appears small. It was my first time and first night in Pittsburg for work. The restaurant was next to my hotel, so I tried it. They were opening, and the bar was free. I had the pleasure of meeting the bartender Aus, who wasn't only a phenomenal bartender but a great ambassador to the city. She asked me a few questions about what I liked and gave me some recommendations to check out in the area. I was only here for a beer and an appetizer, so I couldn't provide any dinner recommendations, but meeting Aus tells me this is a great place to have a great experience. Brunch Dreams Come True We decided we wanted to do brunch pretty last minute on Sunday. We checked the Nook's waiting list & it was wild. I'd also been wanting to try Eleven for so long but figured they'd be booked up, and they were online, but we called and got a table! They offer an appetizer, entrée, & cocktail for $39! You also get a bread plate (ours had banana bread muffins, croissants, & mini biscuits with cinnamon butter + jam) so it ends up being 3 courses + a drink. It's a great value in my opinion & the menu was so good it was hard to decide what to try. Everything we got was delicious. The Smoked Salmon with the mini everything bagel, cream cheese & toppings was great! The eggs Benedict with prosciutto was perfect, with the arugula side salad. And my French Twist cocktail was beautiful & tasty! My husband got the salmon app as well and a lovely rolled omelet. We'll have to go back soon to try more! They're located right at the beginning of the Strip, close to downtown, and the space is very large & impressive. We were seated upstairs and had nice, attentive service during our awesome brunch! So, I went back with high hopes as usual. Especially since I had such a great time during my last visit. I wish I could say the same for this visit. We ordered the veal meatballs and scallops for an appetizer and they may have been the best part of my meal. For my entree, I ordered the salmon. I'm an avid salmon lover and was very excited to see what Eleven would do with the dish. The piece of fish itself was cooked well but the dish as a whole lacked the complexity of flavors the other dishes had. Needless to say I was a bit disappointed. I've gone to Eleven a few other times for special occasions, but this was my first time for brunch! My friends have raved about their prix fixe brunch on Sundays. For $35 you get choice of appetizer & entrée, and choice of fresh juice or brunch cocktail. My friend made a reservation for 3 of us at 1 pm on Open Table and put in her credit card numbers to hold the reservation. When I arrived at the hostess stand they could not find her reservation. I'm not sure what the issue was, but they didn't have it on their computer. I asked if they had a table for 3 and then replied no. I was obviously disappointed, but then they said the bar area was first come first served. Luckily there was one 4 top table open at the far end. I am so glad we were able to get a table. The bar area was more casual than the dining room, but it had the exact same menu so we were happy. Our waiter was friendly and brought a nice bread basket to the table. It had croissants, blueberry muffins, and mini biscuits served with honey butter and a jam. The mini croissants were my favorite! They were so buttery and flaky. For my prix fixe I started with the brunch sangria (cava rosé, brandy, chardonnay, pink cranberry, basil, berries). It was really delicious! I ordered the oysters as my app (served with mignonette, and ELEVEN hot sauce). The hot sauce was my favorite. I put a few drops on each oyster. Where else in Pittsburgh can you get 6 oysters as part of brunch menu? The oysters were large and buttery. They were amazing! For my entree I picked the Roasted Red Pepper, Mushroom, & Goat Cheese Omelet served with fingerling potatoes. The potatoes were the star of the entrees. They were smashed and must have been fried twice. They were so crunchy and crispy and seasoned well. I really enjoyed them. My omelet was good, but honestly wasn't anything really special. I probably wouldn't order it again just because of my preference. My friends enjoyed their sticky bun (brioche, cinnamon-sugar glaze, orange, pistachio cream), salad (radicchio, arugula, little gem, red pepper goat cheese, lentil vinaigrette, tapenade croutons), Fried Pickle Brined Chicken (cornbread, Brussels sprouts, Granny Smith apple, lemon aioli, hot honey) and Prosciutto Cotto, Caramelized Onion, & Pleasant Ridge Reserve Omelet served with fingerling potatoes and sausage. I took one of my closest friends to brunch at Eleven this past weekend. Our server, Mikayla, was edgy, helpful, and patient. Brunch is currently a $39 or $42 (if you prefer a dozen Fisher's Island oysters) prix fixe menu. The $39 option includes juice or a brunch cocktail. Pittsburgh strikes again with some excellent grub at reasonable prices! Eleven serves modern American fare and while the menu isn't huge, what they do, they do very well. The decor here is fun but sophisticated and you feel like it belongs in any hip part of a big city. Food here is excellent. Their complementary bread is top notch with the cherry rye taking the cake as an incredibly creative and delicious bread. Oysters were fresh and fairly inexpensive (by NYC standards at least) and the house hot sauce was a perfect combination of sweet and spicy. Mushroom salad was also very well done with a slightly sweet and creamy sauce that complemented the roasted umami flavors. The beef short rib on polenta and romesco sauce was cooked perfectly - tender braised beef was complemented perfectly by the strong and tangy romesco sauce. Desserts were also strong as the banana cream pie was the winner with their perfectly caramelized bananas sitting on top of the cream filling which was utterly delicious. Service here was top notch and friendly. Prices are very reasonable for the quality of the food (maybe I need to stop eating out in NYC so often) so its hard to find fault with anything here. Our group got oysters, and tried all of the cheeses. They had a sea salt focaccia bread that so good. For dinner, I ordered the ricotta cavatelli and the squash truffle butter and sage bread crumbs on the pasta and mushrooms was incredible. For dessert, I had La Pistache which came in a stemless wineglass which had what I think was a chocolate on top. When this was brought out, the top layer is melted by a warm orange caramel. Since we came on a Monday we basically walked in without any trouble of getting seated, and decided to go with the tasting menu that had us sampling many different varieties of fish and beef. I believe the tasting menu is seasonal, so I'm not sure if there's much point to going into too many details about the specifics, but my main impression was that the fish tasted very fresh, and that I ended up feeling like the food quality was better than Altius, which we just ate at the day before. Eleven is just a consistent and go to restaurant for solo dining, groups, dates and events. Solid service and fresh ingredients with a variety menu of diets. Rarely ever an issue here. They have new hours after Covid opening at 5pm. The bar scene is always great here. Meet new people, join the locals and chat with transient travelers. Always a good place to go solo for that reason if you want to chat it up. Their pastry menu is to die for also. Incredible pastry chef. Great wine list, never disappoints or there isn't a substitute option that is just as good as the sold out bottle.
