I found this place randomly searching for gyros. The reviews and pictures convinced me to bookmark this place. Stopped by on a Friday night. The place has a Greek/Mediterranean dine in vibe with wall-art to match. Ordered take out and was told it would be about 15 minutes since everything is made to order which I'm totally cool with. Ordered two shish Taouk combination ($21 each) which is the chicken shish kabob and gyro meat combo with pita sliced, rice and salad. It comes with salad dressing and garlic mayo sauce, very tasty. The portions are huge and the meats solid. Had to get a side order of tsatsiki sauce ($1.50) since I was having gyro meat which had a mixed yogurt texture, it was alright, taste wise. The garlic Mayo has more flavor. Overall it was a solid meal. We came here thinking it was a restaurant but it's more of a take out place. They said it's BYOB but they didn't even have a wine bottle opener. The hummus is good, the baba ganoush was also good. We got the chicken platter. It was a large portion. The rice was good and the chicken kababs were cooked well. The garlic yogurt sauce was probably the best part of the dish. Finding a good Gyro is hard in my area, so when traveling I check for Greek restaurants that have them. Stopped in on a Saturday, and Stefanos was not busy. Ordering was fast as I knew what I wanted, a Gyro sandwich, and it promptly arrived. Gyro was decently sized with a different flavor to the meat as they use charcoal to get more flavor. I found the Tzatziki sauce to be too mild though. Selection of beverages is wide with various sodas, waters, and teas available, but they also have fountain drinks. This place is a 3.5, but what bumps them up to a four was the very attentive service. The lady at the counter was very good, even instructing me how to eat a Gyro as many people do not know. Absolutely terrible service. Walked in and no one is there - shades between the kitchen and counter are disgusting yet I was told to sit by the door. Quickly I realized this was a COVID warrior with her virtue signaling double mask nonsense. Then she proceeds to spray all the tables but the one by the door with some chemical (and doesn't wipe it up). The half used napkins, old Dunkin Donut coffee cup and strewn papers on the first table didn't exude the sterility cellphone employee was trying to signal. But back to the food - pretty simple order, no onions, no tomato, easy on sauce... in less than two minutes (meaning the food was already sitting there), out comes a soaked paper plate, filled with sauce and loaded with onion and tomatoes. "Yeah you can pick that off." While still talking on her cell phone and only partially acknowledging my presence. No thanks I'm done, refunded money quickly and I left. Good luck to the owner - with employees like that you're gonna need it. I went to Stefanos this past weekend with my family/ party of 8. When we came in we were the only ones in the restaurant. At first I was starting to think that this might have been a bad idea since no one was there. There one one lady working the front who took our order and super friendly. As our appetizers came in, more people started to trickle in which made me feel a lot better about suggesting this place to my family. The appetizers were great and when our entrees came in, they were even better. A few of my family members ordered the gyro sandwich on pita bread. She showed them how to properly eat the gyro by pressing the sides together, taking a bite and pulling the wrapper along the way. I was kind of shocked at the fact that she litteraly put her hands on my dad's food and proceeded to show us the proper way to eat a gyro. She did however say her hands were clean but in my mind, I really don't need you touching my food! Throughout our course of the meal, the restaurant became PACKED! With people dinning in and many people taking out. All of this with just one worker/server at the front. She managed the whole store and got everyone their orders, so props to her. When it finally calmed down we asked for the check. She never gave us the bill that calculated the breakdown cost of our meals but instead just told us the total cost. The price seemed a little higher than expected so I asked if she had already included tip, since we didn't see the actual check. She did say she added a 15% tip, which was fine, we added a little extra since she ran the whole restaurant alone. Overall, the food was great. This is my favorite Mediterranean place in the country, it truly is on another level. Get the kofta combination plate with cigars (lightly fried cheese). Either come hungry or share the plate. Hands down the best place if you are looking for real food, real ingredients with a touch of love. If I am ever in the area again, this is on the top of my list. If you are in Harmon Meadow, do your body some good and fuel it with diary or gluten free options, like the foods available here. The lentil soup was perfect and very hot! The green falafel had spice and were not greasy. The salad was a bit over dressed, but the grilled chicken and garlic mayo was delicious together. The pita here is quality. The owner waited on our table. She said that her late husband was the chef and together they ran the restaurant. Her mother was there having lunch. The owner said that she brought her mom up from Florida so that she could take care of her after having taken a recent fall. This is a true American family story. Sofia's is normally my go to for Mediterranean food when I'm in this area, but I was in walking distance of here so I gave it a try. The restaurant is take out only, but the lady working out front was very nice and helpful and my order didn't take long to wait on. The portions were great like most gyro places, but the pita bread tasted old and dry and the meat was a little dry also. The hummus tasted ok but not tons of flavor. I was hoping it will be a big plate with only hummus and baba ganoush because initially we planned to take only hummus dish. Also, it came with 4 small pieces of pita that wasn't enough. Definitely not worth $14. My husband gyros plate looked nice except the meat. I asked him if he liked it and he said "It's ok". So I assume he have had better. This little gem is hidden in a shopping plaza but this family owned restaurant has been around for 20+ years and wow- if you want a well made, flavorful gyro without having to feel guilty eating it then this place is for you. She is going through great lengths to insure that your food, table, chairs, credit card machine and anything you may touch is sanitary. Their shrimp is so deliciously seasoned and the garlic mayo sauce is killer. It comes with a side salad and pepperocini (love), and rice or french fries. I been trying to be healthy so I got the rice. We also got hummus with pita and they threw in this extra buttery bread that reminds me of something I had in Puerto Rico lately. The hummus is soo goood. Sometimes I'm really like 'eh' when it comes to hummus in general, but I'm a fan of Stefanos. Let me begin by saying I never even got to try the food. When I got to the place it was empty, that should have been a tell sign but it really isn't because you never know. The lady that was there was unfriendly to begin with almost felt like I had to pay her to get a smile. Then we stared looking at he menu which was ok, and then ... well the plates jump from $15 to $30 for a difference between chicken or beef. We still ordered 2 plates because my mom and sister where not really hungry and they are picky and don't really like to try new things. So she tells us is $2.00 more to share! Im still questioning how can that even make any sense in anyone's mind. I never asked for extra food, if it is the extra dishwashing liquid they are worried about then don't give me extra She oran my just have 2 bites from mine, and we'll I just don't get it. Can anyone really give you a legit reason for this charge other than we need you to buy extra plates even if you don't eat them so we will make up this charge to force you to order more. The thing is when business create charges that are so obviously abusive and hostile towards the client one has to make a choice: Do I suck it up and give into this or do I stand up and just say nope I'm not eating here. So I just said no I'm sorry this is unreasonable, and the lady actually surprised me and said no problem have a nice day. Not in a rude way, she was just monotone.
