Here is a new entry on my "Worst Restaurants in Queens. The food and service was absolutely disappointing. Everything is very dirty．

Went here for the second time after having a great experience the first round. However, I will never go here again! The service sucks! I wouldn't even recommend going here if your not Greek. The waitresses aren't Greek and they don't take the time to explain the "menu" in a place that doesn't have a hard copy menu! Also with no menu, you will never be charged the same price, for the same dish, twice! read more

I crave this food! This is the spot to eat seafood in the summer! Their soft shell crab is to die for Greek salad fried calamari! I wish I could give Regis place more stars only negative is that it's cash only but this place has been around for a very long time! Either way food is amazing try this place read more

Usually I'd give this place 4-5 stars, however, tonight it seems the service has gone downhill. Our waiter almost didn't even care that we were there. I attempted to order wine with our meal, but he never tended to my request (note to owner: we wanted a bottle $$$). He also never came by ONCE during dinner to refill our water (again note: we were having $8 Pellegrino). We left quite disappointed & in no hurry to return. read more

Saying this place is medeocre is generous. My friend and I came here to have lunch after a coworker of mine recommended it...we shouldn't have listened We were seated and were told right away that they only accepted cash...which is totally fine...I was however thrown off due to them not having menus and only 3 soft drink options. I also had to ask repeatedly for water. Our waitress only checked on us once..I guess chatting it up with coworkers was more important than tending to the only table in the restaraunt..needless to say, we were not happy with our service and did not tip...the waitress then asked for a tip!! The food was only ok...pretty much lacked any unique flavors other than lemon. This place is filthy...the table was covered with paper table covers and if you lift them up, you'll see youre actually eating at a dirty table with clean paper on it...there were also dead and living flies in the windowsills... Because there are no menus, you don't have really have any idea what youre spending which sucks. In the end, I was not pleased with the service and would not recommend eating there. The food here is fantastic, some of the best and freshest seafood in the city. Be prepared for occasionally nutty service and cash only, but that's all part of the charm - so long as you are charmed by that. read more

i love this place-- it's a seafood-lovers' heaven; no menu, fresh fish, cooked the way the chef feels is best-- one time the waitress asked if we'd like veggies with our dinner, and when we inquired as to what they had, she responded, 'anything! there's a grocery store across the street!' it's definitely a no-nonsense, nyc kind of place-- but good food certainly makes this a place to come back to. read more

It's all about the fish. No frills, just great grilled, fresh fish. Grilled octopus is outstanding.

The only reason I'm giving this place 2 stars is because the food is phenomenal. Let's start off with the waitress. She was very cold and rude and did not tell us it was CASH ONLY. When I asked for a menu she said there's no menu but in a very rude manner. She left out half of the menu when telling us the menu. We know this now because we saw other entree's coming out to other tables. She only told us what seafood they had. After we placed our order we assumed that sides were coming with our entree's. I asked her, you forgot to ask me what side order I wanted? She replied sides were not included. This is another thing that she never told us in the beginning. When the food came out she basically slammed the plates on the table and walked right away. Surprisingly, the food was excellent. She did not check up on us once. When we were finished she cleared our table, she did not ask us if we would like coffee or dessert. We waited 15 minutes for our check. When we received our check, the bill was $81 for two shrimp entree's. She didn't give us prices on anything which was a little shady and overpriced to me. We didn't know how much it was going to be until we received our check. The overall experience was not pleasant. If it wasn't for the food being so good I would give a rating of 0 stars. Its a shame because the food was so good but due to the service and the restaurant operation I will never ever go back. Would stick to other seafood restaurants in Astoria. read more

Owner has disgusting attitude towards patrons. We went to Elias this Saturday evening. We have gone many times in the past. When the place is not crowded, the food is good and the service as, at best, acceptable. However, when the place is crowded, the service is terrible and the owner doesn't care how bad it is. Four of us ordered lamb chops. We then preceded to wait 50 minuted for the meal. I got up and asked the owner when we were to be served. The owner said to speak to our waitress. When I said we did and that she had no response, he said then we will just have to wait. 10 minutes later, 3 of us were served the lamb chops. Our waitress said that the 4th will be out soon. Ten minutes later we asked and when she couldn't respond, we asked the owner again. He then told us that he was out of lamb chops. We asked for our bill and was charged for everything we ate (not the missing lamb chops). He then came over and told us that he wasn't charging us for the 4th order of lamb chops. Amazing We will never go there again read more

Been coming here for years and the decline from 5 stars to 2 for me has been gradual. Oysters were tasteless and slimy so we didn't finish. Waitress spilled my glass of water (much of it on ME), didn't apologize, and never refilled the glass. Ownere unapproachable as he was engaged in a QUARREL with another diner. Yesterday we were here, the food was not bad, we odered 4 dishes and the worst part was the waiter brought the dishes all at the same time. An older gentleman greeted us (probably Elias himself) and since the patio was almost empty we requested a table along the perimeter. He refused our request giving some excuse that it was Saturday and the tables were for 4. Later 3 people came also asking to sit along the wall and he didn't let them either. Well they left. I don't blame them. Another trio relented but they were not happy that they couldn't have their first choice of seating. When we left, there were only 2 tables with customers so it would not have made a difference where we sat. But Elias has an eye for the ladies; a couple of hotties asked for a table along the wall and he sat them right down without hesitation. read more

So this place is a classic. It's got a little of the NY "you talkin' to me" flare and a lot of the Greek no muss no fuss get the fish on the grill . . . . food's excellent, as mentioned by another reviewer you need to be confident to get what you want! and people keep saying it's pricey-what are they talking about? We ordered a ton of food in a group of 10 with about 6 bottles of wine and spent $40/person. When going for a simple dinner for two we spend about $60 on 2 entres, a couple sides, and a bottle of wine-it's not the kebab stand on the next corner but it's certainly not expensive! OK first off, the service was TERRIBLE!!!! Our waitress was very rude and unprofessional. She came to the table and started with "Everyone, listen up!" I was scared of her to be honest! We shared several plates. The dishes that are noteworthy are the Calamari, Salmon (not wild, we had both), and Greek salad. Those items were freshly prepared and quality cuts. The Greek salad had delicious pieces of feta cheese. Items that you should NOT try are the chicken kabobs (wayyy too dry and bland), the octopus (so salty, chewy and burnt! It was gross), and Greek coffee ( was not strong and the end of it tasted like dirt!). To top off our bad service, she forgot one of our dishes. When we told her at the end she said "why didn't you guys tell me earlier? Now I will get in trouble with my boss." Then when she dropped off the check, she had the nerve to say "Next time. tell me in advance if you don't get a dish." No comment to that. read more

I have been looking forward to coming here for a while and my friends brought me for my birthday. I was glad we came here because the food was good. We got a greek salad, scallops, and mussels as appetizers. All were very good. For dinner we got a grilled branzino (very good), fried whiting (meh), and the star of the meal, a grilled red snapper. Holy cow, the snapper was freaking amazing. For sides, we got lemon potatoes (good), turnips greens (ok), and grilled zuchini (fantastic). Overall, the food was really good and I would definitely go back for some fish! read more

Update: went back a second time, and got mostly the same thing, except this time they had something I've heard of but never had-- loukoumades. If you've never had these delights, imagine the love child of baklava and beignet: a ball of light deep fried dough, drenched in honey and cinnamon. Absolutely wonderful read more

The food is great. The fish is always fresh. The restaurant, however, could use some renovations. Went there last week and was seated next to the window. The floors and windowsills are very dirty. At 7 pm on a perfect summer Sunday, the line for Kyklades was 90 minutes so we decided to try Elias.The deck is very pleasant and they certainly do great grilled fish. However, when you're paying cash, the uncertainty of what they're charging is disconcerting. It's fine but you don't leave feeling quite as mellow as after a Kyklades meal. read more

my favorite NY spot no frills, no menu, no credit cards. but everything is fresh and tasty. not for fancy people who are going to complain about the lack of decor (i would consider this a plus). have been many times and never had a bad experience. patio is nice and afterward you can head across the street for a beer at the beer garden. make sure to order the fried potatoes and grilled shrimp. read more

Delicious! As others have noted, no menu, but basically, it's the usual suspects so think about what you've had at other greek places and come prepared to order. The greek salad was average, roasted potatoes with lemon and calamari were great. Other aps/sides that looked good (but didn't try) were the house made potato "chips" and the fried cheese. This place is a fish lovers heaven. I go here with Greeks, off the boat italians, and people of all shapes and sizes for a taste of the Old Country. You cannot go wrong with anything on the menu (even a few finicky fish haters loved the lamb kebobs) and its cool thats there is no menu. DO NOT Bring people who want to mull over and discuss with the waiter all the options, just ask for what fish are available and order, it will come out great. I go with the octopus as an appetizer and always try a different fish for a main course with the potatoes as a side. Don't forget a salad too! Worth a trip. read more

I use to absolutely love this restaurant until I looked it up on the Department of Health's website. The rating is terrible due to how many violations it has. I was shocked, disgusted and disappointed. I'm waiting for them to get back up to par because the food is delicious! Good luck and go at your own risk. read more

My 3 stars are only about the food. In fact the service is horrible! Well, one waitress in particular, Georgia. She barely takes your order and does not bother to check on you after all. It is a shame considering that the food is good. Another bad point is the absence of a written menu. I took a bus over there from Manhattan near Columbia and had a delightful lunch. Three lamb chops of nice size and fries. The Greek bread and olive oil was also a nice addition. The pricing was very reasonable, and the service was fine. This is my third time there in about 2 months. Each time I have been well satisfied. read more

Never going back. Surly owmer/manager who told me "no credit cards". "What?" (i couldnt hear him as he mumbled). "NO CREDIT CARDS" in an angry tone, not even looking at me. The wait staff seemed fearful of him. Hectic place, near collisions of wait staff and customers. Sloppy looking interior. So hectic as to make you feel anxious. Food only OK. There should be large signs about no credit cards, didnt see any and this and owner/manager pissed me off. This guy did not act as a pleaseant host, but seemed more like a slave-driver . great food, ok service , best fish in NYC

I came here on a Saturday night and I thought the place was okay. It's definitely got a different business model than most restaurants I've been too. There were no menus and the waitress just listed everything off. I felt a little rushed like they wanted me to eat and then leave. The food was okay. We ordered the taziki(sp?). and it came with shredded mushy cucumbers instead of crunchy cucumber cubes I'm used to be served elsewhere. The calamari was just okay.. it wasn't as crisp as I expected. The roasted lemon potatoes weren't really roasted.. they tasted like they had been boiled instead since they didn't have any browning marks. The fish, I ordered the monkfish, which was overcooked and slightly rubbery.. but the cod was good.. it was flakey.. flavorful. I don't think I would come here again. Not to mention, a fight had broken out in the other room with chairs being knocked over and loud screaming between parties. and none of the staff did anything to help the situations while other diners just stared. read more

Went to this restaurant on a Saturday night and was very surprised to discover that it wasn't very crowded and had pretty much emptied out by 9:30. After eating there I can understand why. The food is not very good for the most part. This is primarily a fish restaurant, but when i looked at the display case, I noticed that the fish did not look very fresh (the eyes of the displayed fish were not shiny, as they should be when fish is fresh). Nonetheless because it had such good write-ups, we stayed. We ordered the green salad, which was laced with dill and feta and was very good. That was the highlight of the meal. Things went downhill from there. As mentioned in other reviews, the bread served at the table was stale. We ordered a carafe of white wine, which was awful and we returned it. We tasted the red wine before ordering another carafe and it was equally bad. (if you go, bring your own wine) We next had an order of small white fish, which are served fried and eaten whole, heads and all. Not bad, but could have been crisper. The St. Peter's fish was not very fresh and tasted muddy. Lemon potatoes were good, however, and tasted quite as lemony as they should be. We also ordered "horta," steamed greens with lemon, which we were told were dandelion greens (I never had dandelion before and was quite excited to taste it). What arrived was a plate of overcooked, soggy, and tasteless greens - inedible. Such a disappointment. If you want good, fresh Greek food, I would skip this restaurant and look for one that has a long line of knowledgable eaters even after 10pm. read more

they do what they do and they do it well. i think elias gets the consistency aware for greek seafood in astoria. been many times throughout the years and by golly i've yet to have a disappointment. soft shell crab, fried squid, red snapper, tilapia and monkfish all were memory stand outs. yum i want some right now! read more
