I had mixed feelings about our visit to Elicious. We were told the wait for a table would be about 15 minutes, but it ended up being closer to an hour. Once we were seated, it took another 10 minutes before our waitress came to the table, and about 40 more minutes before our food arrived. As for the food, there were definitely some highs and lows. The pancakes were outstanding--light, fluffy, and probably the best thing I had. My dad ordered the seafood omelet, and it looked amazing. He said it tasted just as good as it looked. On the other hand, the grits lacked seasoning, and the salmon croquettes could definitely use more flavor. I also ordered scrambled eggs with cheese, expecting the cheese to be mixed throughout the eggs, but instead it was simply a slice of cheese placed on top and partially melted. The staff was friendly and courteous throughout our visit, which I appreciated. However, as a culinary school graduate, I couldn't help but notice that the front-of-house operations seemed a bit disorganized. Better communication and more efficient service would make a significant difference to the overall dining experience. Overall, it was a mixed experience for our table of four. There were some dishes we really enjoyed and others that fell short. I'm on the fence about returning, but I haven't completely ruled it out. I was craving shrimp and grits so I came to Yelp to find a place. This place had mixed reviews and decided to try for myself. Its right off Florissant and the parking lot is tight. There is additional parking on the side alley way which is where I went. As you enter they have classic hits playing and of there is a wait (which we waited about 15 minutes), they give you a buzzer. I looked online before I arrived so I knew exactly what I wanted. Mimosa was good! The server was nice and the food came out in a decent time. The fish was crispy and delicious. This was my first visit. It was very crowded. We made reservations for 6 online for brunch and when we arrived, the receptionist said they were not taking reservations that day. Hmm. Not sure why they did not show that online, however, because it was Saturday, we chose to wait it out for 45min. The restaurant is a nice size. The entrance had more high chairs and bar, which they were not serving anything from there. The parking was crammed, we parked across the street on a lot. We ordered the chicken and waffles, grits and fried pork chops,biscuits and gravy, toasted ravioli with sauce and salmon patties with grits. It took a while for the food to arrive. It all looked and presented well. The chicken was seasoned well, not too salty and crispy. The waffles had no flavor and was not as crispy or crunchy as I would have liked. My eggs were lukewarm. Our waitstaff was very busy and we did not see her as much as we wanted, so I decided to keep them, however, I did not eat them. I was told the salmon patties were dry and the grits were pretty good. The toasted ravioli were good. The biscuits and gravy was good. The pork chop was a little overcooked. The coffee was delicious. The overall experience was nice. My daughters and I made a reservation and went here for brunch. There ample parking available in their lot. They have a nice lobby/waiting area. They have 2 nice size dining rooms. Our server was very friendly. We had a variety of items from the menu and everything we had was nicely seasoned and delicious! The pork chops, the croquettes and the chicken were so good. Things started off poorly as we stood at the hostess counter for 5 minutes before being seated, and they were not that busy. Once seated, things could not have gone better. Kiki was our waitress and she is the bomb, attentive, nice, well spoken and empathetic. Menu is select southern soul food classics with an Elicious twist. My family and I decided to try Elicious on a Saturday morning. There was a wait but it wasn't bad at all. We loved that the waiting area was very spacious. The host Sly, was very personable. We loved his rhymes and words of encouragement. Our waitress was very friendly and efficient. She offered great recommendations. My husband ordered a Bloody Mary to start. He said it was good but that he preferred more spice to his. My daughter ordered a hot chocolate. Theirs is made with water and she prefers them with milk but she said it was fine. For meals, I ordered the Southern catfish breakfast. The catfish had good flavor and crisp. I loved the breakfast potatoes. The pancake was fine. My only recommendation would be to wait a bit to bring the warm syrup and butter. It didn't take long to get our food but because the syrup was brought so early, it was no longer warm. My husband ordered the Famous southern style pork chop breakfast. He said the pork chop was well seasoned, crispy, and juicy. He liked how well seasoned the breakfast potatoes were and that the pancake was good. My daughter ordered the Mississippi biscuits and gravy. She opted for fruit instead of breakfast meat. She enjoyed her food but said she could have used a little more salt in the gravy. Overall it was a good experience. While I wanted to love this place and support a black owned business, some things weren't so good. 1. We waited for our food for almost 2 hours. While they were beyond appropriately staffed and did have 4 servers catered to a busier table who had a party of 10, I still don't understand what happened. I will say the restaurant wasn't that busy to the point the staff was slammed and I still can't see why there were that many servers to one table instead of disbursed. 2. While our server was very cute and kind, we didn't have basic things such as water, napkins and silverware. Also, the silverware was plastic but everything else was actual plates, cups, glasses. 3. The food was mediocre. I ordered the chicken and waffles and the chicken wings were seasoned well and was delicious! Waffle was not. My boyfriend's food didn't look good for me to try and comment. This was my first visit but not my last. I went with the biscuits and gravy on a cool spring morning. These may have been the best I have ever had. The biscuits were soft and flavorful. They were topped with a sausage gravy that was absolutely delicious. What really made the flavor pop was a sprinkling of green onions over the top. I can't believe the difference these made. The staff was a treat in itself. I was given a "proper greeting " according to the man who showed me to my table. He delivered a beautiful, poetic message with a little blessing included. This establishment opens at 10, we got there at 10:30 and it was already packed but for a good reason the owner greeted everyone at the door and signed them in for the tables. All of the waiters and waitresses were professional, friendly, and thorough! My sister and I came here for brunch, and really enjoyed ourselves. The food, THE WARM SYRUP, the mimosas, the attentiveness of the waitresses, the super clean bathroom etc were all phenomenal. I'm only taking away one star because they got our order wrong in the beginning, But they made up for it and who doesn't make mistakes?
