I was craving shrimp and grits so I came to Yelp to find a place. This place had mixed reviews and decided to try for myself. Its right off Florissant and the parking lot is tight. There is additional parking on the side alley way which is where I went. As you enter they have classic hits playing and of there is a wait (which we waited about 15 minutes), they give you a buzzer. I looked online before I arrived so I knew exactly what I wanted. Mimosa was good! The server was nice and the food came out in a decent time. The fish was crispy and delicious. My daughters and I made a reservation and went here for brunch. There ample parking available in their lot. They have a nice lobby/waiting area. They have 2 nice size dining rooms. Our server was very friendly. We had a variety of items from the menu and everything we had was nicely seasoned and delicious! The pork chops, the croquettes and the chicken were so good. I was fortunate to be seated where I could see into the kitchen ... every hostess, cook, server, & busser was on point. Fast moving, yet friendly & professional ... even the newer ones. My family and I decided to try Elicious on a Saturday morning. There was a wait but it wasn't bad at all. We loved that the waiting area was very spacious. The host Sly, was very personable. We loved his rhymes and words of encouragement. Our waitress was very friendly and efficient. She offered great recommendations. My husband ordered a Bloody Mary to start. He said it was good but that he preferred more spice to his. My daughter ordered a hot chocolate. Theirs is made with water and she prefers them with milk but she said it was fine. For meals, I ordered the Southern catfish breakfast. The catfish had good flavor and crisp. I loved the breakfast potatoes. The pancake was fine. My only recommendation would be to wait a bit to bring the warm syrup and butter. It didn't take long to get our food but because the syrup was brought so early, it was no longer warm. My husband ordered the Famous southern style pork chop breakfast. He said the pork chop was well seasoned, crispy, and juicy. He liked how well seasoned the breakfast potatoes were and that the pancake was good. My daughter ordered the Mississippi biscuits and gravy. She opted for fruit instead of breakfast meat. She enjoyed her food but said she could have used a little more salt in the gravy. Overall it was a good experience. Once the food was ordered we waited in the waiting space and lobby. One of my immediate reactions to the space was that it felt like home, the music playing was great, the ambience was chill and friendly, and it was very clean. After waiting not long maybe less than 20 minutes we received our food. I was pleasantly surprised because it was almost a full restaurant of customers. My partner and I asked if we could sit at the bar to enjoy our food there and Ms. Mary made it happen! YASS shoutout to her! Our waitress at the bar was great too, thanks Alexis!!! While I wanted to love this place and support a black owned business, some things weren't so good. 1. We waited for our food for almost 2 hours. While they were beyond appropriately staffed and did have 4 servers catered to a busier table who had a party of 10, I still don't understand what happened. I will say the restaurant wasn't that busy to the point the staff was slammed and I still can't see why there were that many servers to one table instead of disbursed. 2. While our server was very cute and kind, we didn't have basic things such as water, napkins and silverware. Also, the silverware was plastic but everything else was actual plates, cups, glasses. 3. The food was mediocre. I ordered the chicken and waffles and the chicken wings were seasoned well and was delicious! Waffle was not. My boyfriend's food didn't look good for me to try and comment. The service was adequate, and it felt very homey and comfortable. I would give it a 3.5. Overall, I enjoyed my experience. This was my first visit but not my last. I went with the biscuits and gravy on a cool spring morning. These may have been the best I have ever had. The biscuits were soft and flavorful. They were topped with a sausage gravy that was absolutely delicious. What really made the flavor pop was a sprinkling of green onions over the top. I can't believe the difference these made. The staff was a treat in itself. I was given a "proper greeting " according to the man who showed me to my table. He delivered a beautiful, poetic message with a little blessing included. The aesthetics of venue was very nice. There are beautiful photos of music artists that are displayed on the walls in the waiting area such as Tina Tuner, Diana Ross and a list of others. We walked in and was greeted immediately and the hostess was informative by communicating the wait time that was quoted as 45 minutes. I was not pleased with the wait time but it's always easier to wait with good music and a mimosa. It was very busy so have some patience but it felt good that the community was embracing a new hot spot with so much love. I talked with others that were waiting and enjoyed the connects. We finally sat down after 1 hour and waited another 40 minutes for breakfast. There was lip stick on my coffee mug so I had to send it back and had to send 1 additional mug back and a glass to the kitchen so a total of 3 items. I asked the server if there was a dishwasher or was someone hand washing the dishes to hopefully suggest maybe running the dishes through one more time as one maybe an outlier but 3 is a pattern. My sister spoke with the manager and he seemed to busy to talk and explained how many people were there the day before (400 people). This of course is not a plausible explanation for dirty dishes and now I was uncomfortable but I am here and want the full experience. The manager brushed past the conversation and said he would return to complete our conversation but never did return. I ordered chicken and waffles and my sister ordered shrimp and grits. I enjoyed the fried chicken and shrimp and grits. Both dishes were full of flavor. The waffle was decent. Our server was very nice and attentive as well. I would still recommend and say it's worth trying but please ensure staff is checking dishes before they deliver to the table.
