Eli's Table is one of my favorite restaurants in Charleston, mostly because of their great courtyard! I went last night for the third time (first time for dinner as we had gone for brunch the other two times). They have a jazz band in the courtyard on Thursday nights and we were treated to complimentary champagne and a delicious shrimp ceviche. We ordered the fig and prosciutto crostini, the shrimp and sweet potato pancakes and the asparagus salad. All were extremely flavorful and I would definitely get them again. Eli's was busy when we walked in on a Saturday, but they found room for us right away, We enjoyed a lovely brunch/lunch and we were pleased with our menu selections. The fried green tomatoes were delicious! Also tasty were the entrees we ordered, which included: the grilled asparagus salad, the shrimp and grits, and the Eli's burger. Service was friendly and efficient. Our water glasses were filled on a regular basis which was kind of a big deal after walking around in Charleston's July heat. As I write this review, I am unbuckling my belt buckle...because we just ate the 3 for $30 at Eli's. We had the beef and the chicken, starting with the Harvest Salad. Amazing flavor! We ended with the Key Lime Pie and the salted caramel cheesecake. The desserts were ssooooo good! Our server, Raymond, was very personable and knew the menu like he had written it himself! The roast chicken was good, but their signature ribeye steak dish was a disappointment. The service was also not the best, maybe because there was some important chef sitting at the table next to us and the restaurant staff were too busy trying to please him and ignored the other guests. This place earned all five stars! So so so good! I wasn't that hungry, so I just had the chicken salad with red wine vinaigrette. The chicken was served hot on a bed of greens with yummy goat cheese and pecans. A simple salad, but it was done right. Hubby had the shrimp and grits benedict and that was delicious. This restaurant was recommended to me by my Airbnb host. Apparently it's been around for ages. I enjoyed a nice breakfast here on the patio. The menu is great and the food is delicious. We visited Charleston with a bachelorette party this past weekend, we had attempted to get a table at a very popular restaurant around the corner from Eli's but had no luck as our party was very large. We ended up accidentally stumbling upon this GEM. There were TWELVE of us!! The entire staff was so unbelievably sweet and accommodating but I give the ultimate compliment to TINA , she was amazing! She gave us phenomenal recommendations ( and everyone's meal was SO SO good) , she was quick, thorough, funny and also gave us great reccs for other stuff to do in town. They hype the Shrimp and Grits as the best in Charleston. That's a bold claim, and although I haven't eaten all the Shrimp and Grits in Charleston, I nonetheless think they may have a pretty strong case for that claim. These may very well be the best Shrimp and Grits I've ever had. The Fried Green Tomato Napoleon was also sinfully delicious. Staff was attentive and very friendly. So, why not 5 stars? The answer is the She Crab Soup, which was pretty bad. I know it's supposed to be thick and rich, but this was so thick it actually seemed like it would be better spread on toast with a butter knife. Heavy? Oh yeah...this stuff was dense like a black hole. Also, she crab soup usually has a touch of sherry in the flavor profile, and I tasted none whatsoever. So...best Shrimp and Grits I've ever had, but also one of the worst cups of She Crab Soup. Still, it was only a poor cup of soup against great service, a pleasant dining room, a wonderful fried green tomato appetizer, and what may, in fact, be the platonic ideal of Shrimp and Grits, so only one star lost ;) read more

I read the "vegan" review from February 2014 and brought my vegan friend from San Francisco, CA to the restaurant for dinner on 8/31/2014. There is no vegan food. We asked the waiter, and after giving us a rude look, he told us that they didn't serve anything vegan. My friend was willing to compromise to vegetarian and the waiter again said it wasn't vegan. Again he was rude. He disappeared for 20 minutes, brought our water and disappeared for another 20 minutes. My friend had to ask a different server for bread that everyone else seemed to be getting. After taking our order, our original waiter disappeared for another 30 minutes. We asked another different server a question and 20 minutes later another different waiter brought our food out. Our original waiter came back to bring us the bill. I love eating out, but I will never come back to this restaurant. The food was good, but the service is the worst I've experienced so far in Charleston. If any of the folks at my husband's work (Boeing) ask about restaurants to try in Charleston, I will NOT be recommending Eli's Table. read more

My wife and I had our rehearsal dinner here a couple of months ago, and we had an amazing experience. Everything was top notch: food, service, ambiance. I worked with the restaurant's General Manager Damon on arranging all of these details for our dinner. He was great to work with, and he really made sure that everything was set up perfectly for us. He worked with the head chef to make a customized menu that would fit our budget. Our budget was a very important factor in choosing a rehearsal dinner location, and Eli's Table's prices were much more reasonable than some of the other top notch restaurants in the area (particularly since most other restaurants wanted to charge us a room rental fee while Eli's Table did not). We had a great private space at Eli's. Our party was 33 total people, and everyone fit comfortably in the private room. As for the meal, we had several options to choose from but I personally ordered the fried green tomatoes (served family style), butternut squash soup, southern style shrimp and grits, and apple crisp for dessert. Everything was amazing, but the fried green tomatoes and the shrimp and grits were the highlights. All of our guests loved the food, and everyone had a great time. I would highly recommend Eli's Table to anyone looking for a great private dinner event in downtown Charleston. Damon and the Eli's Table staff, thanks for everything. Tourist trap. Hostesses are more interested in socializing than seating. Alcohol is pushed heavily with breakfast. So is free wi-fi. Our meals arrived before beverages or silverware hit the table. The food was mediocre. The beignets were overpriced but good. My mushroom omelet was a bit heavy and dry but the mushrooms within were high quality. There are better grits in town. The mimosa was mostly OJ, I think fresh squeezed. There are much better brunch deals around but I am happy to have crossed it off the list. read more

We ate here last night, and I was really excited, the wine was great, our server was humorous. Then my "filet" came. I am pretty darn sure that was not a filet, it was like trying to eat leather. I get better from Costco. In fact, I got better from Walmart. The seasoning was not bad, but nothing to write home about. My husband had fried soft-shell crab, that he really enjoyed. (Though it was $34, which is more expensive than even their nicest steak! I don't mind paying a lot of money for dinner, but it better knock my socks off.) Our food took almost an hour, and wasn't worth it when it arrived. What a waste of time. I would consider going back for brunch, mostly because I liked our server, and the hope still in my heart that this could be a good restaurant. This place is chaotic and the service was not what you expect from a popular and well reviewed restaurant. The estimate for a table was grossly understated despite the restaurant having many vacant tables. In the end we elected to sit at the bar to avoid any further delay. The experience just got worse from there. On top of not being attended to by the bar staff, the hostess had to take our drinks order and prompt the bar staff to take our food order. My dining companion was then sprayed with a champagne bottle as it was opened. Thankfully, someone apologized but no one offered a cloth or napkin so he could clean himself up. I made dinner reservations online for a birthday dinner date. The reservation process was streamlined and I received a call the day of to confirm my reservation. When arriving, they seated us at a two person table next to the front window, which had a lovely street view and a not so lovely view of the server computer the staff kept walking to two feet to our right. Unfortunately, halfway through dinner, another, more noisier couple was seated at the table two feet to our left. We began with martinis that weren't on their specialty menu, as the list seems a bit odd. The Fried Green Tomato Napolean, an Eli's Table classic, did not disappoint with aesthetic or flavor; however, it should've been served with a spoon to utilize the sauce. I had the Eli's Expresso Rubbed Ribeye with asparagus and onions, and my date had Forager's Filet with truffled potatoes and brown beech mushrooms. My Ribeye was huge and all of the food was delicious. My only complain was the length of time it took to receive the dinner. Our waitress was a little odd in that her mood seemed to fluctuate with each visit to the table-one visit would be very polite and helpful while the next she would remain silent. When you check in on Yelp, you receive a "free appetizer" and below that it states "six dollar value" which is odd because they serve no appetizers less than $8, but when she took my phone, the manager took off the entire price of our appetizer. I learned that on Thursday nights they have live Jazz music at 7pm, which was also unfortunate for my 6pm dinner reservation as everyone was boisterous in welcoming the group continually carry in their musical instruments. I overheard the bar tender teaching someone how to make drinks at the bar and later a lady walked her dog in off the street. Overall it was a slightly awkward dinner with no special treatment for the birthday. I will definitely continue exploring Charleston before becoming a regular at Eli's Table. read more

Such a cute place. Sullivan was our waitress and we stopped in for breakfast. Another great find through Yelp. Everything on the menu looked wonderful. Definitely order a coffee because it comes in a huge cup. I had the frittata with a side of bacon. The grits are amazing and I'm not usually a grits person but they are worth choosing. The frittata was very good, fresh, with yummy breakfast potatoes. I had to get a side of bacon after Sullivan mentioned how good they were. Definitely a place to stop. read more

Eli's was highly rated on many lists, but for the price ($25-45 a dish), it was very sub-par. Ambiance was very dated and basic. Service was average. Risotto was very under-cooked. Shrimp and grits were excellent, but not sure it was worth $29. At the table next to us, the woman had to return the chicken dish because it was too dry and asked for scallops instead. The scallops should have been served with risotto but she received it with spaghetti. Very disappointing for all of the hype. read more

A fantastic little place! My family and I went for breakfast and it was a lovely experience. The staff was very friendly and our waiter Nick and Manager Joel were great! I had the sweet potato pancakes and they were amazing! Sweet fluffy and delicious! My dad had the Lowcountry Benedict, which was beyond incredible!
