The 12 volt battery on my Prius died and Scott came out and put in a new battery, checked the fluid levels and oil, put in a new lightbulb for a parking light that was out, and cleaned everything under the hood. I had a truck that wouldn't start in my driveway, with a costly tow costly tow to the dealership. I was able to diagnose the issue, and just needed a fuse replicator kit installed. When I called EMS and asked if they could come to my house for this install, the response was "oh, I assume you're seeing a crank/no-start on hour truck?" After having had a TERRIBLE experience with another mobile mechanic in town (I won't name names but you can look at my reviews if you'd like to find out!), I was hesitant to hire another one. My brakes were jacked beyond belief and didn't really feel like messing around with waiting several hours at a shop only to check out and find that they doubled my quote with "various" other things that it "needed." In a two week span my car (a 2009 Acura MDX) died on me three times. A close friend of mine highly recommended Scott, so I called him up and he came to my apartment that same day to check out my vehicle. Right from the start I could tell he knew what he was doing. He was extremely professional and there was something very empowering about being able to watch as he explained everything he was looking for. After the initial diagnosis, he needed to order some parts, but I was getting ready to go out of town for 10 days. He ended up working on my car while it was parked at the airport! I also asked if he could take a look at my broken A/C (which the Acura dealership said would cost close to $1K to fix). I came back yesterday... my car drove smoother than it has in YEARS. Scott was very helpful in my situation. I really needed a simple repair done on my truck and getting it towed to a mechanic's shop would have cost $65 and up but I wouldn't have been any closer to getting my truck fixed. He called me back after I left a message and he met me soon thereafter. He helped out with the repairs and I was on my way for cheaper than the cost of towing plus a mechanic's shop combined. He has a van full of tools and can get you all fixed up. I was also able to get a partial reimbursement from insurance company. If you have a towing benefit on your auto insurance policy I recommend submitting his invoice to your insurer. I was able to get $40 refunded to me by insurer which was a nice bonus. I definitely recommend Scott and I am now a total convert to the mobile mechanic concept! For my next vehicle breakdown (knock on wood) I will be sure to give him a call. read more

The first time I called him was a few months ago, straight of yelp after looking for a shop to help fix a problem with my car, which I had no clue what that was. I called Scott based on his reviews and because he was mobile. My car is my company vechile (i'm also a small business owner) and most of my day is spent driving around the city, so it was imapirative that it was fixed ASAP. We chatted on the phone for over 30mins, in that time I described the symtoms and he provided me with knowledge and what I needed to get it fixed. Because of that, I saved his number in my phone, now 3 months later I am finally meeting him and having him work on my car for a different problem. THAT'S THE KIND OF FIRST IMPRESSION HE LEFT. Today he came and fixed what was told to be by 3 other places would be over $400 for a tad over $200, NEXT DAY AND FIXED WITHIN THE HOUR! I was recommended to Elite Mobile Services from a friend (who, as it happens, has known Scot for many years) and I can truthfully say the best mechanic experience I've ever had, hands down. Diagnosed both problems with my car without overcharging me, very transparent about what he was doing, what he needed to do, and was open and honest about the entire process. I was trying to figure out a problem I was having with my 3rd cylinder (engine light came on right as I went to get an inspection, of course) so I thought that I just needed a tune up, but Scot pulled things apart and found out that one of the connectors on my coil was damaged by whoever put the last one in. I also had a coolant leak (coming from an odd place) and he diagnosed and fixed both problems very fast (just had to wait for the part to arrive). The first time I met Scott he came to work on my food truck that another Mobile Mechanic had worked on for five hours and couldn't figure out what the problem was I have to say I would use the other mechanic again because he didn't even charge me for the time which was amazing, Scott figured it out in 15 minutes. Initially I put in a service request for Scott to diagnose an electrical issue I was having. I managed to take care of the problem myself the day before and even sent an email the night prior explaining I had done so. I did however outline in my email that I wanted to replace my driver side wheel bearing. The following day he shows up for about 30 minutes and says it's too late in the day to attempt any work on the wheel bearing since it needs to be taken to a shop and "pressed-out" for approximately $50-75. Alternatively, he mentioned there was a tool (kit) that could be purchased to do it himself costing roughly $100. According to Scott customers seldomly request this service so it was an investment he really didn't think he needed to make (or one that he needed to think about considering the year and model of my vehicle). Despite that fact that zero work was done on my vehicle that day (4/31), I decided to schedule a time to have the bearing replaced (5/8) since that was his earliest availability. Fast forward to today. Scott called me while he was en route to my apartment around 10 A.M. During this brief phone call I asked if he had worked out a price quote for the work being done today. Specifically, how much will I be paying for parts and labor. To which he replied "I haven't done that yet so I really don't know." At this point, I can say I was a little alarmed that a mechanic who's had this particular job scheduled for over a week, who knows precisely what work needs to be done and the parts required for the job has no idea how much this will cost. Not a huge deal but a little odd none the less. I greeted Scott about 10-15 minutes after he showed up (I left my keys in my visor so he could get to work as soon as he arrived) and he'd already gotten the wheel off and was about to take the bearing hub off. I'm not a helicopter customer so I just let him work uninterrupted (there still has not been any mention of labor or parts cost). Approximately 15 or 20 minutes later I notice he's already got the wheel back on and has vacated the premises. My only assumption was that he went to a shop to get the bearing "pressed-out" as he said that was most likely the method he'd pursue the week prior. At this point there was no communication about how Scott was going to fix my wheel bearing so I'm left to make assumptions from prior conversations. 4 HOURS later Scott arrives back at my apartment and has the hub/bearing and tire/rim back on within 20 minutes of being there. I promptly go down and ask how everything went and to get down to brass-tax. LABOR AND PART(s) COST. Which with any other mechanic in the world you'd know prior to getting the service done. Keep in mind, Scott has at no point divulged his per hour rate nor any indication of how much the parts are. Not only does he NOT tell me how much he payed for the parts, he claims he doesn't have a receipt and that he "just cant do that" and that "I don't have one". Not even a minute later after my inquiry he shows me the receipt (after I laughed about him charging me $112 for parts) and it shows he payed $72 for the hub AND the bearing which is insane. A brief google shows you can get a PAIR OF HUBS AND BEARINGS FOR $86 and I payed $72 for ONE. So he flat out lied to my face for no apparent reason. In Scott's own words, he marks up parts between 20%-40% based on availability. I can only imagine the 40% is for parts that are difficult to procure. Scott charged me over 50% mark up value on these parts ($112 on $72 cost). I drive a Honda Civic, so I'm sure the availability of these parts are in excess. Did I mention he also charged me for 2 hours of labor? Call me old fashioned but if you work on a car for 2 hours, you get payed for 2 hours. HE DID NOT SPEND MORE THAN AN HOUR TOTAL ON MY VEHICLE. Nor can I attest to if he actually went to a shop to get this done OR do it himself. Only after specifically asking him did he say that he did the work at home because he forgot a tool. At this point, Scott was yelling at the top of his lungs proclaiming this must be how I get things in life for free. So he then decides that he can drop his labor time down to 1.5 hours for a reason I can only assume is based around guilt. Verbatim, "IT DOESN'T MATTER HOW LONG I SPEND ON THE JOB!!." I mean, are you serious? I told this guy I didn't even care how much it costs at this point, I'm done with the conversation. This was at the MOST a $250 job. That being on the highest end possible with a shop mechanic, I payed this guy $300. In reality, he spent an hour on labor ($100) and $72 in parts. Sooo, $200 seems like a reasonable pay out. I pondered as to how I may write this review as I see that there are a lot of good reviews here and my review may tend to be overlooked, but I wanted to go ahead and share my story since it is what I have experienced. I started off looking for a mechanic that had great reviews on Yelp as I believed people with many good experiences would have them because the mechanic was knowledgeable and friendly, so hence I decided to give Elite Mobile Services a call. I booked an appointment and Scott had show up early in the morning to give me a hand. When Scott came I had informed him that my wife's care was not starting and that the A/C was blowing hot air. I was told at Autozone that I needed a new alternator but Scott had informed me that I needed a new battery and went and picked it up for me since I was unable to get there. He then put it in and it worked like a charm. He then attempted to find the underlying cause as to why the A/C was blowing hot air. He checked the hoses and concluded that the problem was a small leak and that the schrader valve had a leak and replaced those valves in the car. He then evacuated the refrigerant and filled it up again. The air worked and everything seemed great and I was quite satisfied. The whole thing costed me 300+ and a tip I had left because I believe it was a job well done Come a little less than a month the car was blowing hot air again, and I felt distressed, so I called him again and he came out and used a UV leak checker I believe it was and still could no conclude the problem. So he said he would have to replace the hoses in there which was going to cost 400+ at this point I was kind of dumbfounded wondering if he was serious after already charging me 300+, but he was. He told me he could do it that day or that I could wait until he got back from vacation. I was really upset and will not be using Elite Mobile Services again. Without warning, my car didn't start one morning. I did the basic DIY stuff (charged and checked the battery, inspected the basic electrical connections etc). As a relatively new resident to Austin, I had no experience with auto mechanics here. I was left with the option of a $100 tow (I didn't have AAA at the time) to a random shop and leaving myself to their mercies. "Well you see, the flux capacitor picked up some dust causing a cascade of system failures and ultimately burn out to the mother board." The faint sound of the Jaws theme music would trip on silently in my head. WIsh it would go away. The sudden paleness to my face and blank look of confusion must be showing my fear. He continues, "but that's not all." The Jaws theme music gets louder. "Unfortunately, since the event wasn't just confined the capacitors and motherboards, it is very likely one or more of the ancillary systems has failed. Won't know tell we test...but I've seen the transmission, engine, AC and braking systems go out......" He says while wiping blood like transmission fluid from his hands on a shop rag. The Jaws music in my head steps up a notch in volume. "Would you like us to get going with the other tests?" I struggle to make out the words, "How much do I owe you so far?" I ask with unlikely demure. "Well the initial diagnostic was $85, plus the "tow in fee" for "$25, then $15 for shop parts, so about $125." "Oh add in about another $15 for tax. Gotta pay Uncle Sam..." He says with chuckle. I try to smile. The JAWS music just stepped up another notch. "Each test will run between $85 and $150, maybe $400 to go through most of the systems...." I could no longer make out his words as the internal dialog in my head was overcome by the Jaws theme music. I needed to get some fresh air. Then I saw Elite Mobile Services on Yelp. For a $100/hr charge, Elite would come out and diagnose and potentially fix the problem. I figured this would be a better option than allowing myself to be thrown to the wolves by paying at least an $90 fee to have it towed. Unfortunately, Scot was booked for the day but took my number and address in case he had an opening. Lucky for me, Scot was able to find time to stop by later the same day. He was able to quickly diagnose and fix the problem. I couldn't ask for a better outcome. he was prompt, professional, friendly, honest and had my car up and running within the minimum charge. He provided useful advice on how to avoid the problem in the future. I will make Elite Mobile Services my first call the next time I have a car problem. It's hard to beat a service that comes to you (at home or work), charges a fair price and demonstrates true honestly. read more
