Had a great meal and wine tasting at Elk Prime. Chef Higgins and Pellet Winery put on a fun dinner. The wines and the food were paired so well. We started with an unoaked Chardonnay and oysters, great start. The trout was so delicious paired with a Chardonnay. The next dish was the duck, my favorite of the three was paired with a Cabernet. The nut encrusted Colorado lamb was also paired with a Cabernet. The whole evening was so good, great menu with the selected wines. Look forward to more of these events. We went here 2 nights in a row during off-season, Fall 2018. We had such a fabulous dinner the first night we couldn't find any other spot that would compare (though there were a few other supposedly good spots closed.). But that aside, we could not have been happier with our food. We had a rare filet mignon, their special elk filet with buffalo ravioli, baked potato and Mac/cheese side. Everything was to die for. Each entree also came with a perfectly toasted bit of garlic. We enjoyed each clove. A special treat! On our second dinner visit we were more modest but had a great salad, loved the French onion soup. I got the Colorado trout which was perfectly cooked but was a bit disappointed by the risotto which seemed under cooked. The waitress and staff were quick to respond and we were not charged. Probably the most condescending host experience I have ever had. We have been here before several times as we are locals but have never been treated like this. First off the resteraunt does not answer the phone. We figured it was because they were busy but we arrived to see 50% of the resteraunt empty and not a single person in line to be seated. She told us to go online and that there was no availability until 3 days from now. We looked online and there were multiple reservations available next day. Hurts to see us treated like this. I wanted a good steak for my birthday while in CB so we headed to Elk Prime. Since ribeye is my favorite cut of steak and they had Prime bone-in then I had to try it. My wife had a filet. We had oyster appetizers, the steaks, and smoked potatoes. Everything was pretty good except for the ribeye. It was real bad. I mean a total hack job on what I seriously doubt was a Prime grade cut of beef. I ordered rare and it was medium rare with no sear at all but warm all the way through. I think it was cooked sous vide too long and they couldn't leave it on the grill for a proper sear. I mean it was bad. The potatoes were great, my wife's filet was excellent. Not for those positives this would be a one star review. Since the filet was so good they may have other good cuts that they are capable of cooking, but I won't be testing that theory. read more

Best anniversary dinner! Our server, Elliot, took amazing care to course out our meal perfectly. We are kind of obsessed with the lump crab cake appetizer. Neither seemed interested in serving us in a timely manner. The only thing I can think of is that our bartender forgot to put in our order, but in that case please say something and admit your mistake rather than making us feel less than deserving of service. Such a cozy and perfect spot for a low key or fancy meal. Coming here is such a treat. Usually we sit at the bar and have drinks and food there. On our most recent visit, yesterday, we had a table with friends. The wine (all drinks, actually) list comes on an iPad - pretty cool. The wine pours are a little small for the price per glass, so just know this going into it. The prices and pours are on par with a higher end restaurant. The sides are pretty large and are definitely enough for 2 or even 3 people to share. The half wedge salad was huge and delicious. The crispy onions on top were amazing. Corn chowder needed a bit more salt or spice or something. It was good but not something to love. Risotto was very good. Very rich, but that's risotto. Service was fantastic. Great food, great service. Cole was a great and personable bartender/server. My steak was cooked perfectly and my oysters were on point! I was a bit skeptical to order fresh oysters in such a remote location, but I was not disappointed. Whomever shucked them knew what they were doing as all the liquor was intact and the oyster last were released from the bottom of the shell. Wagyu steak was cooked perfectly medium rare and even the manager came by twice to make sure I was satisfied. Elk Avenue Prime...where do I begin! Last memorial day my fiancé and parents came to CB, we were thinking about getting married there and the minute we rolled into town we knew it was the place. We decided fairly quickly on our ceremony locale and after eating at Maxwell's (what Elk Ave was at the time) we agreed that was the place for the reception. The decor was warm and inviting, the food was phenomenal and the owner was just the nicest person. We had about a year before the wedding to do our planning. During that time Maxwell's changed ownership and we soon received contact from Curtis, the new owner of now Elk Avenue Prime. I was a little hesitant that the restaurant was changing ownership, and had no idea what the food or atmosphere would be under Curtis' ownership. He assured me he was a chef and he knew what he was doing- we had nothing to worry about. Over the next few months he was extremely responsive whenever I send him a question, was polite and so helpful. My parents and I came down for a tasting about a month before our wedding and the food was even better. Curtis worked with our budget and came up with a menu that was absolutely fantastic. He came up with a great appetizer and desert option (s'mores bar, if you can believe it!) and helped us with menus, drinks, table arrangements, you name it. We even got to play our own music using Sonos wireless sound system. We didn't have a wedding planner and we were worried about the reception more than anything else. We had our ceremony at Woods Walk at 3 PM- the reception was meant to start at 5 but it started to rain as soon as the ceremony ended and all of our guests ran to the shuttles we provided for them and they were dropped off at Elk Avenue Prime...and they just went in! Once we saw the guests were starting to enter the restaurant we ran in to talk to Curtis but he just said, Don't worry about it! We'll take care of it. The reception started an hour and a half early and somehow he and his staff made it work! Drinks were flowing, and dinner was served at 5:30. Started with a salad and once everyone had ordered we only had about 20 minutes before fresh, hot food was coming out of the kitchen. I was amazed at how perfectly they had it timed. The quality of this food too...Curtis graduated from the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park and the food shows it. He let us come in early to decorate and after the reception the staff put all of our decorations in one area for us to pick up the next day. All in all, the reception turned out beautifully. I had several guests tell me that it was the best reception food they had ever had. Honestly, it was some of the best food I've ever had! It really came together thanks to the helpful owner, the wonderful staff and amazing food. If you're considering Elk Ave for your reception, for dinner, for events, whatever it is, just go there. We had a couple of appetizers, the fried green tomatoes and the tempura fried brussel sprouts. The tomatoes were really good. The brussel sprouts were just okay. Too much fried and not enough brussel sprouts. We had a Fillet Mignon and the 18 oz 28 day dry ages bone in rib eye. The fillet was melt in your mouth tender. The rib eye had great flavor and was a huge portion for bone in. We had crab mac and cheese and mushroom spinach risotto. They were both good, with the risotto being the winner. My husband and I decided to have our last meal here and we were blown away. We started with the honey pepper bacon which was sweet and spicy. I had the Chilean Sea Bass with a sweetcorn puree and rustic brown rice and my husband had the elk tenderloin with buffalo ravioli and lamb lollipops. We also had a side of scalloped potatoes. One of the best dining experiences we ever had. I indicated on the reservation that it was my fiancé's birthday. She was treated fantastically, each employee that we came across wished her a happy birthday. Our waitress was fantastic and even rushed to get her the last prime rib special. The food was amazing.
