We pulled into this restaurant leaving Chama headed home and we are sure glad we did! It was delicious! I got the Fireman burger with red chile (opened faced burger smothered with chile) it was so good! I ate every last bite! My husband had the Chipotle burger and he said would you definitely have again and our boys split the fish in chips which came with 2 filets, side salad, fries and hush puppies. There were so many good options we had a hard time picking! Can't wait for our next trip to Chama to try something else on their menu! read more

Elk Burger with green chile and cheddar cheese....AMAZING. My Dad had enchiladas with red and loved them. Sweet girls that work there make you feel welcomed. The sopapilla was delicious. The location on Apple maps was wrong it's further south than the river so keep driving another mile, it's worth it! read more

The employees were very kind, food was good and exactly as advertised, everyone was wearing masks and distancing appropriately. The is a great hometown cafe. We arrived just before they were closing and the took us cheerfully. The staff is friendly. The food was good, hot, and plentiful. I had the smothered chimichanga and she had the smothered burrito. Fantastic and spicy. Highly recommended. read more

Food was set on the table that was still frozen inside; lipstick on the coffee mug; three tried before getting a clean fort.

We had the Chama Burger. Excellent! Would gladly go back and get that one again. Sat outside and enjoyed the great weather of this area. What a wonderful way to spread the afternoon. Too bad we hit it right around closing time or we might have spent the day there :-) read more

What a great little cafe. From the outside it doesn't look special but the food is fabulous and the atmosphere is very comfortable. My wife had the Taco Salad while I had the chicken with green and red peppers sandwich. The plates were presented very well and both my wife and I gave the food quality five stars. We had the telcos and they were so greasy we could hardly eat them, there was very little to put on them. The beans and rice were cold and they never brought the sopapias. Yuck read more

Delicious breakfast & courteous, welcoming greeting! There were 5 of us and seated immediately. Our greeter/server was enthusiastic & helpful the entire duration. I ordered the #13 Old Fashioned Breakfast which included two fluffy pancakes, choice of egg & choice of bacon or sausage. All of it was delish! My wife ordered the Breakfast Burrito with green chile & chorizo. She loved it! I had a taste and the green chile had a great taste and slight bite. My father in law had the Huevos Rancheros and loved his as well. Definitely recommend for Breakfast. Need to try dinner next. read more

We stopped at what looked like the only place around and didn't expect much. We waited longer than expected for your typical restaurant BUT this is not your typical restaurant. The food is amazing and totally worth it. I had carnitas tacos , other meals at our table were meatball sub, hot turkey sandwich, elk burger, chimichanga burrito. The portions were perfect and everything tasted homemade. If you don't get sopapillas with your meal you are missing out. The staff made sure we were comfortable and turned on the fan to keep our seating area cool and kept us well hydrated. Bathrooms are small but clean. This is my first review but they deserved the great props. read more

Had a great time riding the Cumbres Toltec Train on Saturday. Sunday morning we decided to grab breakfast before heading back to Albuquerque. Stopped at the Elk Horn Cafe. We may have missed the morning rush, not too many folks in the restaurant. I ordered the breakfast burrito w/ bacon smothered with green chile; my boyfriend ordered the chicken fried steak breakfast. Great meal -- so much food -- and flavorful. The staff was very friendly, kept checking on us to see if we needed anything. By far the BEST meal we had while in Chama. I ordered a glass of milk for $2, much cheaper than the $4 glass of milk I ordered from another restaurant on Saturday morning. I do recommend this place for breakfast; you will not be disappointed read more

Delish! We went for breakfast. I had the huevos and it was so good!!!!!! My husband had the pork chop and eggs. The pork chop was huge and about 2 inches thick. Also had a piece of apple pie(don't judge me). It was amazing! Homemade, flaky and buttery. read more

Went there on a sunday lunch. Food was mediocre. Stale chips, overcook patty. Service was horrendous. Had to wait one hour and a half before the food showed up. No excuses on their behalf. With so much prep time, it should have been the best lunch ever. Quite the contrary. Then the cashier thought that the waitress had forgotten to put stuff on the check and she treated us with suspicion. Never will we come back. read more

I have been dreading writing this review, but I can't put it off forever.... My husband and I were in Chama about 2 weeks ago for the train ride and stopped in here, hoping for a light dinner. We weren't real sure about the looks of the place, but we had read some pretty good reviews on Yelp and another site, and there was a large group already seated and they looked pretty happy, so we decided to stay. My husband ordered the chili and I ordered the taco plate with shredded beef. While we were waiting for the food (probably 45-50 minutes), we asked our server about the place and learned that they close for the winter...sometimes as early as September, sometimes not until January...just whenever they decide to close. I was getting really cold (this was in September) and the server said they would "close the windows." Ten minutes later I was still shivering and asked the server about turning up the heat and he told me, "There is no heat in this restaurant." When the food did come, we couldn't eat it. My husband's chili looked like they had poured a can on tomato sauce in a bowl and it had just 1 (one!) piece of meat. Honestly. My tacos had beef in them, but the meat was grey-ish and mushy with what looked like a melted white cheese. Just not at all appetizing. We were on vacation and didn't want to take a chance of getting sick by eating this stuff. I am sorry to have to write such a bad review, but this place was bad. read more

We stopped here on our way to Angel Fire. What a pleasant surprise. They have an outdoor space where we had an apple, chicken, walnut salad. The menu is varied with sandwiches and burgers. It is clean and our service was prompt and courteous. read more

Traveling thought Chama on Sunday there are not many choices of where to eat. The Elk Horn was open and was really great. I had the enchiladas with red sauce and my wife had the tortilla soup. Both were excellent. The service was really good a friendly as well. read more

We stayed in the lodge next to this restaurant so it was convenient. We were absolutely impressed at how good the food was in both taste and speed in which it came out. We had both breakfast and dinner and loved it! My 7 year old daughter had the teriyaki burger and said she wanted to give it 6 out of 5 stars. Highly recommend it! read more

After we found out that the box car cafe wasn't open (when it should have been) we came here. Both Yelp and Google maps said they were open from 7:00Am - 9:00Pm. As we pulled in, we noticed the hours on the front stated the same hours, yet they were not open. So went to the High Country place down the road. They had great food! read more
