My brother and I were heading home after a great day of fishing at Clear Lake and decided to stop at Elkins Frosty for a classic burger, fries, and shake. The restaurant has that nostalgic roadside burger stand feel that instantly takes you back. We arrived just before the dinner rush, and within minutes the place was packed. The cook was friendly, attentive, and handled the sudden rush as well as anyone could. They even had to bring in another employee to keep up with the line, which says a lot about how popular this place is. I ordered the double cheeseburger. It came loaded with fresh toppings, but the beef patties were a bit underwhelming. They weren't bad by any means--they just didn't quite match the thick, juicy burgers shown in the photos. Even so, the burger was flavorful and enjoyable. The fries were a pleasant surprise. They were thick, crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, and excellent with a little ketchup. The real star of the meal was the strawberry milkshake. It was outstanding--thick, creamy, and packed with strawberry flavor. Easily a five-star shake and the highlight of our visit. My brother mentioned that he had stopped here years ago and remembered the burger patties being noticeably thicker, so perhaps they've changed over time. Overall, this was a solid roadside burger stop with friendly service, great fries, and an exceptional milkshake. While the burger didn't quite meet my expectations, I'd definitely stop again when passing through for a quick, satisfying meal--and I'd order that strawberry shake every single time. read more

Service was okay. The lady was really pushing us out it wasn't even closing time. We ended up just taking the food home. Frosty was good but it gave us some stomach issues or could be the burger I don't know. First time trying it. We both go deluxe burgers. It's like a Temu version of in and out. Expensive for a frosty. I get of people want a burger and it's the only place in town but I'll pass and never recommend anyone going here ever unless you have crap taste buds. I was working in Wheatland for a week and I'm so glad that I decided to try Elkins. The ordering was fast and the burgers were good! I must say that the coated fries were especially delicious! I sat in the dining room where music was playing and some local kids were having conversation. The buns were fresh and also the lettuce, tomatoes , onions and pickles, I did get a double cheeseburger, I now know why the outside sign says," best burger in town" I would have to agree! Ordered the double deluxe burger with fries and a soda the order arrived and it was only a single burger which I specifically stated to have a two patties. The one patty burger was delicious as usual. The fries were crispy and cooked perfect and the chef actually cooked me another burger saying that the customer is always correct and wanted to give me another hamburger. Kept it simple... ordered their standard cheeseburger (add onions) with fries, and a chocolate shake. The cheeseburger tasted great and the roll was nice and soft/fresh. Fries were decent too. Called our order in and the person who answered was not friendly at all. The same person who answered must have been the one working the counter. She was not friendly and I watched a couple walk in and she didn't even greet them. Just started until they ordered. Once we arrived they gave us a small bag of tots when we ordered a chili cheese tot. They ended up giving us chili tots and said they had no cheese. We got a large and regular milkshake and both were the same size in the end? Not sure what happened there. Also it wasn't even an ice cream milkshake but tasted more like ice milk. Driving home from work I passed by this place at least 100 times. I'm always fascinated by old school restaurants. To be old school your food has to have old-fashioned qualities and friendly service. Elkins seems to be an old school restaurant. You have a takeout window and you also have a inside order counter as well. I had the pastrami cheeseburger combo, which was around $18 with fries and a Coke. I don't mind waiting for the food as long as it's cooked right. The bag of food was smaller than what I expected. The french fries were very good. The pastrami burger for the price was smaller and not very much pastrami on it. The Coke was served in an old-fashioned Styrofoam cup, which I love. I would like to give this restaurant one more try and maybe select something different from the menu. The person serving me was very friendly and appreciated the tip. read more

Omg. So, ok, last Friday at 2pm I turned off my computer, rounded my family into the car, and set off for ANYWHERE. Somehow we ended up in Wheatland. Looking up local chow, I happened upon the Frosty and I am a sucker for a Frosty so we got some gas, called in our order, and went to pickup. We were going to eat down by the lake but never made it that far. The food didn't, that is! I forgot my Lactaid at home so I skipped the blackberry shake. Elkins is a throwback of the burger joint I grew up visiting. I have ordered food here on a least 20 occasions and it has been a great experience each time. I work in Granite Bay and live in Yuba City so I drive through Wheatland on my way home so I always ordered food to go. We have had burgers, chicken tenders, fries, onion rings, zucchini, mushrooms and jalapeño poppers and have never been disappointed. The onion rings are the best I've ever had. Do not come here. They sold the place and have no supervisor or manager on staff. Their phone line is off the hook so no one can answer. The food is rock solid like a hockey puck. I asked for a cheese burger with bacon and this is what I received. I took one bite and had to rip the burger away like a beef jerky. I want my money back and honestly wanted to bring the food back but it's in the middle of bfe to go back to! It says voted best in town but don't let that fool you. They kept the name of the previous owner and also it's the ONLY burger place in town. What does it tell you when the fries aren't good you throw them away after two bites. Stopped on my way home from Yuba, hadn't had Elkins in a while. Ordered the crispy chicken sandwich and fries. Freaking amazing! They now have seasoned style fries. They were hot and fresh. The breading on the chicken sandwich was light not over done. Probably one of the best chicken sandwiches I have had in a long time.
