2017 - Scottsdale Elks Lodge Charity Ball
Rachel C.

My first time visiting an Elks Lodge. I really wasn't sure what to expect, but a friend invited me to a Charity Ball at the Scottsdale Elks Lodge, so what the heck . . . I am always interested in new experiences at new places. The Elks Lodge, officially "The Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks" is an American fraternal order founded in 1868 as a social club in NYC. It seems to have the same vibes as the VFW organization lodges (I've been to an event at a VFW in NM in past years.) The Elks have lodges across the US and, if you are a member, you can find one to attend near you by going to their website. [Membership in the Elks BPOE requires you to be a citizen of the US, over 21 and believe in God. Membership in the VFW is based on current service in the military or an honorable discharge from one of the branches of the US military.] The Charity Ball at the Scottsdale Elks Lodge was a formal / semi-formal affair with dinner and drinks. Sounded like a welcome change from my usual jeans & flip-flops. The staff at the Lodge were all super-nice and even had added a local volunteer troop of Girl Scouts to serve the meal. Apparently the Elks do a lot of charity financial support for local non-profit organizations. A big plus in my book . . . Tales at our table indicated that this Lodge has recently gone through some renovations. Seemed like a typical "Lodge" building to me. Large meeting room, equally large bar with bartenders, kitchen, etc. Nothing fancy, but if you like that feeling of a members-only meeting place, this would certainly fill that bill. Most everyone seemed to be well-acquainted and comfortable with the surroundings. Trips to the well stocked bar may have helped.

Comfort food Sunday

How much do I love Elks Lodge Scottsdale 2148? I have to say that I love it very much, in fact I'm there all the time. Here are some of the reasons: Steak nights on the first and third Tuesdays of the month, Comfort food cooking Sundays, the beautiful and relaxing sunny patio, my favorite michelada beer made by the awesome bartenders, country music by a live singer on steak nights, genuine friendly people, views of Camelback Mountain, Pinball machines, salsa dancing lessons and so much more. Don't miss this place, you'll love it too!

Bryan G.

Place has been completely redone, non smoking inside, great food and great people. Seriously cheap drinks. New TVs. I will return for taco Tuesday!

This lodge has really improved the last year. It's gone to non-smoking and has been renovated inside and out. The patio is the best, with a beautiful view of Camelback mountain, new horseshoe pits and bar seating. Food is offered many days of the week including Comfort Food Sunday's, Steak Night the first and third Tuesday's of each month and Fish Fry Friday's. You can't beat the prices, atmosphere, and the terrific food. I've attended almost every steak night and comfort food meal days. The steaks are some of the best I've had and I've had tons. They have great flavor and are served with real garlic mashed potatoes, corn, and dinner roll. The meals on Sunday's are all homemade and have included pan seared chicken, country fried steak, Sweedish meatballs, pasta, and meatloaf to name a few. If you consider yourself a foodie, you should add this to your list of places to try.

This place just finished a full remodel and is a great place to come and eat and hang out. Unbelievable prices on food and drinks. This is not your average Elks club.

While it's not in the heart of Old Town, it's within walking distance. We stopped by on a Thursday around 9:30 p.m. While we were on foot, I noticed that they have a parking lot. Ambiance (4/5): Relatively small for a brewery, but your typical chill, brewery vibes. They have some seats at the bar, some high tops, and a small patio. We sat out on the patio since the weather was nice. The seats out there are a bit uncomfortable, but we couldn't pass up on patio weather. They have free water in the corner which is always a plus so you don't have to wait in line. Service (5/5): The bartender working was super nice. It's always appreciated when servers go above and beyond in providing a great experience. He was friendly, efficient, and attentive. I couldn't have asked for more in my service experience at Goldwater. He exceeded my expectations. Food (N/A): I already ate previously so no food for me. There was a Mexican food truck in the parking lot. Drinks (4/5): I love trying local brews. At breweries, I typically get a flight so I can try out a variety of beers. This time though, I went with a pint. I couldn't say no to the Sour Rangers. I grew up watching the Power Rangers, so that was all the motivation I needed. An added bonus was that this beer is a sour. Not something you have every day, nor a style of beer that you come across very often. So I had to take advantage of the opportunity. And it was a good one. Goldwater is my type of place. I'd definitely return the next time I'm in the area!

Goldwater Brewing is a great find!…read more We had family in town who love visiting local breweries so we found Goldwater on Yelp and decided to give it a try! Goldwater has indoor and outdoor seating options. It was a warm day so we sat inside at the hi-top. I didn't see food options available but it is located next to a few restaurants. My husband and friend enjoyed their beer flights and since I don't drink beer, I was happy to see a cooler with wine and other options such as white claw, etc. the beer was poured directly from the fermenter tank. The staff were very friendly and explained they had to open the wine bottle and make the first pour which was fine with me. We look forward to coming back in the near future.

You can tell right away this is the kind of place regulars come back to often. Food I didn't try much food, but I did have the cheese crisp and it was solid. Light, flaky, and more like an open-faced tostada than a quesadilla. It came topped with green chili and chicken, and everything worked well together. Based on that, I'd expect the rest of the menu to be consistent, even if it's not trying to reinvent the wheel. Service Service was efficient, especially considering how busy it was. No complaints here... you can tell the staff knows how to handle a full house and keep things moving. Ambience This is where the place stands out. The vibe feels like a food network designed a biker bar, but in a fun, not over-the-top way. It's also apparently a Kansas City Chiefs bar, which adds to the identity. There was a live band playing early 2000s rock hits, which kept the energy up. Crowd was friendly overall, very much a neighborhood crowd. Overall This isn't a destination bar, but it's a really solid go-to if you live nearby. Think of it as an elevated dive/sports bar with a strong local following. Good drinks, good energy, and a place that does what it's supposed to do well.

We thought about going somewhere else but the music, dancing and overall vibe kept us there. There is table service and even for a busy night it was very good. There is a really nice patio too when it is not too hot out. It's a very not-Scottsdale Scottsdale bar, which is to say that it's down-to-earth, unpretentious and not too pricey. It has an incredibly strong live music program, with music at least once a day and twice on weekends during the summer, and twice daily during high tourist season. I've found that people--regulars and visitors--are friendly and easy to talk to. OTT is closing in this location and will be reopening in the old Back Door space directly behind it. The space will be larger, but I expect the cold drinks, great music and good vibes will transfer well.

The wings were jumbo and I didn't know otherwise I would have asked for them to be cooked extra crispy. I didn't really enjoy those since they were juicy and not crispy.
