I had lunch with my mom here today and we had a nice experience. The portions for fries are HUGE, so if you're a fan of fresh cut fries, this is certainly the place to go. We got our sandwiches promptly and everything tasted very good. They only sell bottled drinks, but will gladly give you a cup if you ask. I had the BLT and my mom had the Italian beef. We ended up taking half the fries home which is great because we can heat them in the air fryer later for a snack. Some of the lower reviews here could have been prevented if people would just have brought things to the attention of the staff - they were very present AND pleasant and not hard to find if we had found something wrong with our order. It also looked like sometimes they have bread for sale, but they didn't have any out - we'd love to try their rye (especially if it's made in store.) read more

I was an avid fan of Ellie's when they opened their first location; often requesting it to others as a "new place" to try. Unique variety, fresh ingredients, well-prepared food, generous portions, etc. Obviously, others felt the same way. Word of mouth spread, and business grew. A change in ownership (and eventually in location) occurred around this time, but most of the items on the menu remained. Typically, the food was still worth the trip, but the owners cared less and less about customer service. A sample of soup, a cookie, or a small side dish were often part of the experience at the old location. The owner checked-in with his customers regularly and knew many of them by face or name. DEFINITELY not the case anymore. We kept ordering because we kept WANTING to like it again. The Brazilian Panini is a good representation of how things have gone...it used to be piled high with steak, grilled onions, and a healthy portion of chimichurri sauce. The chimichurri sauce was so good that the owner often added a side of it due to all the requests. Now? Well...you can judge for yourself. The sauce isn't even included at this point. It's an additional cost, along with EVERYTHING else. They continue to decrease portion sizes and charge $3.25 for things that were once included with every order. Again, just one example of many. If there's one takeaway from this review though, it should be this. Expect to wait. Counter service is the antithesis of urgency. If you call ahead, wait at home until the scheduled pick-up time. Then wait another 20-30 minutes before heading out. Make sure you bring something to do while you wait. You're probably going to wait another 20 minutes when you get there. You'll be in good company...there are likely 2-3 other customers, sporting the same confused and frustrated look as you, keeping you company. By the time your food is ready, you'll be hangry. You'll want an explanation (or for someone to take accountability). Don't count on it. Counter service can't be bothered enough to put out that kind of effort. We are biiiig fans of Ellie's deli. We live nearby and have been coming here for years. The food is always fresh, hot (or cold, if it should be!), plentiful, and delicious. I love the Reuben, the Philly cheesesteak, and the sweet pepper and mushroom sandwich as a vegetarian option. Their fries are good but you can get chips as a side, and they send you a MOUNTAIN of delicious crispy chips, not some bag of lays. The sweet potato fries are also good! Their menu is enormous and there's certainly something for everyone. The prices are SO reasonable - less than Panera, and definitely more flavor than you'd get there. You can order straight from their website and pick it up in like minutes. What's not to love?! read more

I tried Ellie's this past weekend with my daughter and dad. We were in the area trying to shake off our stir craziness. My daughter said she was craving a sandwich and after a quick internet search I found Ellie's. Both my dad and I got Reuben's and my daughter got a Brazilian steak sandwich. We each got hand-cut fries and a pop with our orders. The reubens were absolutely delicious. The sauerkraut complimented the saltiness of the corned beef perfectly and the zestiness of the thousand island dressing helped smooth the bite. I would definitely order it again. My daughter really enjoyed her steak sandwich. The French fries were good but a little undercooked for my liking. Some were perfect and others a little on the raw side. They also had a nice selection of drinks to choose from. I settled on an orange coke (don't know why, but I like the flavor combination). We also got a meatball sub with fries for my brother, which was the special of the day for $5.99. That is a steal and he apparently loved it. They also have Boar's Head meats and packaged sliced bread for purchase. It was a little pricey but for being a convenience, it was a nice option. We will definitely be back. read more

Decided to try Ellie's Deli for the first time. They are located near my wife's office, so we grabbed some lunch. I was extremely surprised and happy with the quality of the food. The are known for their Rueben Sandwich, but we decided to try some other items on their menu. The Philly Cheesesteak was fantastic! They also offer the same sandwich with chicken instead of steak. The tuna salad wrap was delicious and refreshing. You could tell that the sandwiches are made fresh. The gentleman who brought out my food even gave me a free order of their homemade chips and fries, since it was my first visit. They were delicious as well! You can literally watch him make your food without wearing one as you look at the menu or place your order, despite STATE LAW that requires masks. It's an ignorant and selfish view displayed here. I came to get Mexican takeout next door but popped in to just see what they had. The selections of salads looked great! Their list of sandwiches did too. The sweet owner gave me a sample of some deliciously tender Brazilian beef and decided to change my dinner plans. They have vegan/vegetarian options, unique sandwiches like their Brazilian beef with chimichurri sauce, house made mayo, and provolone cheese. We were greeted by Ellie (AKA Margo). I indicated that it was our first time and she proceeded to provide us with a sample of the chicken salad. (VERY TASTY, INDEED.) The also provided us with a sample of the beef they use in the Brazilian Steak Sandwich. The meat had a wonderful flavor...it was seasoned with only sea salt. The Brazilian Steak Sandwich with chimichurri was outstanding. The Turkey Wrap was chock full of turkey and fresh sweet peppers, tomatoes and cucumber with a very tasty chipotle mayo spread. Their fresh cut fries were great. Their claim to fame is no additives or preservatives and it does reflect in their food! We're sold and will back! read more

We recently moved to the neighborhood, and drove past Ellie's Deli many times. Last night we finally got around to trying it. We both ordered Italian Subs, which includes ham, salami, prosciutto, lettuce, provolone, black olives and Giardiniera. They were delicious! The meat was quality and the portions were generous. I ordered mine on a gluten free roll, which was great, not crumby held together nicely. Mine came with hand-cut fries and my boyfriend upgraded to cheese curds. Both were awesome. I love that they offer fries as many sandwich places only have chips. The service was friendly and the deli was clean. I'm new to Naperville and dropped in this deli because it's less than a mile from where I live. Oh my gosh, it was so good!! Our first time here we had three sandwiches - the Reuben, the Venetian, and the Italian. The bread was so fresh and delicious and was the best part of the sandwiches. I was just around the area and quite starving so I went to the place for the first time. I was in the counter and I they have a huge and variety of selection in their menu. Good thing is that the staff is friendly and when I asked her which sandwich should I order she recommend the Brazilian steak sandwich that comes with a chips. The food was ready after a few minutes. First bite and I could taste the freshness of the veggies, the meat is tender and it got a nice flavor. Chips are crispy and good as well. It was a nice experience. Days off from teaching means trying lunch specials at new spots! Today's pick? Ellie's Deli. Stealing bites from my family members, I sampled the gyro (SO yummy!), the meatball sandwich (messy but tasty comfort food) the pasta primavera salad, the tuna salad and the orzo salad. All three salads were very tasty. Although the gyro and meatball sandwich came with fries, we ordered an extra small fries for us salad eaters. For $1.99, we got a HUGE portion of fries. I can't even imagine how crazy big the large portion must be! The fries were tasty albeit a tad oily. The prices for the lunch special were very reasonable. The only negative feedback I have has to do with how the food is served - in styrofoam containers with plastic utensils. Not only do I not enjoy eating out of styrofoam, I feel strongly that restaurant owners have a responsibility to minimize their environmental impact. At the very least, I'd love to see them serve their tasty food to dine-in customers on reusable, washable plates/baskets along with real cutlery. The owners and staff are super sweet and accommodating. This gem of a place is located off 75th. I always see cops go in so you know it's good when law enforcement makes it a regular stop. I like walking up here after my nature walks. Service is quick and the food is good. I actually also love the detailed menu boards with the real pictures of the food. On a second visit, I think this place just didn't keep up with my memory of it. Everything was meh relative to the price point. Not bad but not great. Combined with a longer wait time when the shop was empty and I probably won't be back. I bought lunch for 3 people including a kids meal and the tab was a little over $35. If I had this same experience and price point at O'Hare airport, I would have been more forgiving. My turkey panini was OK but the grilling added nothing. The bread was too thick and grilling it didn't leave the bread with any real crunch. That's what I expect when I order a panini sandwich. I had a lentil soup with it and that was OK too. The curly fries it came with were super delicious. I'd suggest getting those if you stop in. I do want to compliment the staff for their customer service. This was a much different experience than our last visit to Ellie's (at the old location). We had a Ruben with fresh cut fries, a meatball sandwich with chips and a chicken and rice soup. We enjoyed everything but the soup. They used some herb that we are not familiar with and didn't care for. It gave the soup an off flavor. The bun on the meatball sandwich was VERY fresh. I wasn't sure what to expect when I pulled up. I was pleasantly surprised with the menu and food offering. With the quality of food that they are serving here I would expect to see a full dining area, it is 11:30ish and a few others are picking up orders to go. The place is very clean with piped in contemporary music to set the ambiance. I ordered the cheese burger with fries special for just $5.99, picked up a cold bottle of pop from a well stocked cooler. My food was prepared to my request perfectly and made to order. Fresh prepared high quality food at a great price, I think that when the news gets out they will need to hire more people to cover the crowd. Ellie's moved into their new home. Big, Room to Eat, Greater selection of food, salads and beverages! I am glade to see Margo and Bob back in actions and preparing the best Homemade food around. You might have to wait a bit, although don't forget, this is food made from scratch!! They have hired a whole new staff, it takes time for everyone to get trained and learn how to work together. You can't judge a place from only one or two visits. These ratings will make or break a place. I would suggest you visit numerous times before you rate them. Really good Italian sub. Fresh cut meats and cheeses, homemade bread, can't go wrong. I gave it three stars because of the service. Just too slow for one Italian sub. When I walked in, no one was in front of me and only one person was waiting. I waited 10 minutes for my cold sandwich was was absolutely incredible but that service might deter me from going back. I might try it again but I would have to be in the area to rejudge it. Owner seems like a great guy that works hard just gotta work on being quicker. Update: Bob S., Jersey mikes hand slices their subs at a fraction of the time and you're not a big chain, correct, but a deli shouldn't take that long to receive food. The fact that you claim you're not fast food then compare yourself to fast food places like McDonalds does not make sense also. Everything here is delicious! The salads, sandwiches, wraps...all amazing. My daughter got their hot dog, which is one of the best I've had. They have great lunch specials; with a sandwich and chips for $5.99 and even a large vegetarian lunch menu. I love how friendly they are, and always happy to answer questions. I just came in to their new location and let me tell you this, if you want the freshest tasting most delicious food this is the place for you. My wife ordered a couple of small signs potato salad tortellini salad. I had originally asked for something keto friendly and let me tell you what happened. I decided not to as I just got finished with sinus surgery and I was feeling a little bit out of it but the owner introduced himself and told me that he was going to make me a cheeseburger. So sure enough a few minutes later he came out with a delicious cheeseburger it was a quarter pound of fresh Angus beef not frozen but fresh perfectly cooked juicy delicious well seasoned with a tomato slice some nice cheese and it was on iceberg lettuce that was perfectly formed as a heel and a crown. My wife's Brazilian steak sandwich was equally delicious it was served on Panini bread with crisscross and a delicious homemade chimichurri and provolone cheese it smelled so good. The bread tasted amazingly fresh and homemade and apparently it is homemade literally. The meet is high-quality top sirloin thinly slice perfectly seasoned in perfectly cooked juicy. You cannot go wrong ordering the sandwich it comes with either french fries or chips my wife chose the chips and they were also homemade literally made on the spot and they were delicious perfect just perfectly crispy. I complimented him on the taste of the beef on the sandwich and he probably brought out to large slices of it for me to enjoy top round seasoned delicious beef not a trace of fat anywhere perfectly cooked, by the way he didn't charge me for the cheeseburger. I told him that it was so good he should put it on the menu as it was probably the best cheeseburger I've had in quite some time and I eat at epic Burger frequently, it was better than a pig burger that is saying something. We tried Ellie's Deli last week for a local, quick lunch and were very glad we stopped in! We ordered 4 different deli salads (potato salad, coleslaw, vegetable salad, and spaghetti salad) and they were all very tasty. We loved the mushroom and pepper sandwich and upgraded to curly fries. It was all delicious! My one con would be that the service was a little slow as it looked like there were only two people working; which is to be expected during times like this! However, there is a large sign on their menu that mentions that it will be a little slow and next time I can just order ahead to avoid that minor issue. Turns out it was a blessing in disguise because I ended up using FRANKIE'S DELI IN OAKBROOK TERRACE and their food was far superior, very good customer service and extreme accommodating.
