Well we waited 40m for our food and nothing. Our 2.5yo was completely restless and either crying or throwing the balloon they gave him. So we ended up paying for the couple's food next to us to compensate for our embarrassment. So when we couldn't take it anymore we left. So after 45m, we were $30 poorer, still hungry, and pissed. And the GM should have been walking around apologizing to people or offering a discount. But he was no where in sight. The people at the other table told us they had been waiting 45-50m. This restaurant is only a 5 minute walk away from the Homewood Suites hotel in Oregon. I am not an Oregonian but I see a lot of Elmer restaurants scattered throughout the city. I made the assumption that Elmer's was Oregon's version of Denny's or Ihop but I was wrong; the food is of better quality than any Denny's or Ihop I've been to. My family and I (party of 11) arrived for lunch at around 2 pm. We were quickly seated and our orders were promptly taken. I ordered the Fish feast that consisted of 3 battered fish fillets and 2 fried shrimp with a side of cocktail and tartar sauce. It also came with fries; I was impressed with the overall quality of the food. It ws not overly greasy and the servers were attentive. I was very happy with the experience. Furthermore, the ambiance of the restaurant is very cozy. It reminds me of a warm cabin with grandma's furnishings. Good for large groups, small groups, lunch dates, kids, etc. read more

Elmer's has always been my favorite breakfast joint. It's always quiet, the tables don't feel crammed together, and the food is delicious and reasonably priced. The star of the menu, I'd say, is the German pancake. It's exactly the same as I remember it being 15 years ago - which is perfect. It ain't broke, don't fix it. A close 2nd for favorite menu items would have to be the potato pancakes. Wowzer they are fantastic. The server I had at this location was simply delightful. She seemed genuinely happy, was friendly, attentive, and not over-bearing. I can't believe I'm giving a chain breakfast restaurant 5 stars... but this just happened. read more

Pretty damn good. This place has improved recently so I wanted to give credit where it is deserved. About a year ago I swore I would never eat here again. But as the universe would have it I ended up here for Sunday Brunch the other day and boy was I glad to have arrived! I got sooooooooooooo much food. They where very accommodating to swapping biscuits for pancakes and ham for extra sausage. Me and my girl ate and ate and ate and left very satiated. The quality of food was excellent. The servers where friendly. Price was fair. The only thing that kind of sucked where all the churchy chirch folks who decided to have conversation standing next to our table when we where eating. But hey, do unto others...... We will pray they learn some manners. read more

I had a wonderful experience at Elmer's last Saturday! My server Sebastian was professional, courteous and so welcoming! I was a little upset for having to wait so long for a table but the server experience and how accommodating my server was made up for all of it. He regularly refilled my coffee and made sure we had all of our sauces and enough napkins and asked if we needed boxes for our leftover food. We went here for breakfast/lunch. Walked in was greeted warmly and taken to our table in no time. There was four adults and two child in our party. We orders two kids pancake, one pancake meal, two potato pancake and one other order I can't remember. I was very impressed with the kids pancake, they came with four small pancake and two sausages. The pancakes looked so good that I had to have a bite,mmmm they taste good!!!. I have had plenty pancakes and this one was GOOD. Of course the kids finished it all. My husband also had the pancake and he too liked it alot. I had ordered the potato pancake, it came with two good size pancakes, scramble eggs and bacon. The pancakes was very tasty, pancake was made with potatoes, Tillimook cheese and bits of bacon. I loved the dish I have not had anything like it. I am diffidently recommend that you try Elmer's the next time you are in Portland, Hillisboro area. It's worth trying it I know you will like it too bad we don't have Elmer's in the bay area I will be a regular here. I have to update this review because I am SO MAD about the prices. I don't normally put them in a review, but we were charged $6.49 for a bowl of oatmeal for a kid. She is allergic to most everything, so it was just oats, water and brown sugar. I could have made her oatmeal for a very long time for that price. I realize restaurants are going to charge more than it costs to make it at home (duh), but there is a limit. The price gouging didn't stop there. If you're just ordering a set meal on the menu, you'll do okay . . . ish. The prices are a bit high, but it shouldn't cost what it did to add a side of pancakes or bacon. The turnaround that Elmer's made hasn't been completely erased, but they aren't at the top anymore. The food wasn't as good, but it's still better than the bigger chains. The service was kind of terrible, but I've had worse. This isn't my only experience with this downward turn of Elmer's, so I fear it wasn't just an off day. Elmer's will continue to be fine for a meal, but it is no longer anything special. read more

Elmer's continues to be my favorite breakfast place around. I had to add a star since my last review because I have discovered their option of egg whites for any of their omelets. Not many places can nail the egg white omelet, but Elmer's has consistently executed (eggsecuted?) this omelet for me and I can't help but devour them every time I visit. Still a 4, but when I was ordering my omelette, the server asked me what kind of cheese I wanted. I told him, "cheddar, not that 'american' cheese". He said, "We don't have American cheese." This place just went up another notch in my book! Ordered the build-your-own omelette once again. This is one of the few chains that has pretty darn good food no matter which one you go to. Again, 5 stars are reserved for *exceptional* establishments, so this is the highest rating I can rightly give this place. This is typical Elmer's - I went for lunch on a weekday (whereas I normally look for Elmer's for breakfast on weekends). I was a little surprised to see no host, and when I got seated he took my drink order and never brought it. Service was good, but I think they may have only had one server because he did take a while to come to my table and take my order - but the food came out so quickly I suppose it was a wash. The food here is quality - so my 3-star rating is mostly for the sub-expectation in service and friendliness that's usually a standard at Elmer's. read more

I have to say, my expectations weren't very high going into Elmer's for breakfast. I expected just another Denny's-look-alike with standard breakfast fare. I was remarkably surprised however by both the food and service, both were excellent. I've been here twice now for breakfast and had a great experience both times. The one thing I noticed is that they keep the restaurant pretty warm and it feels a bit like you're at your grandmother's house. Given that a grandmother is possibly their target demographic, they do a good job setting the mood. For me, it's a comfortable place to get a great breakfast and is surprisingly now on my list of local favorites. read more

This is our go-to Sunday morning breakfast spot. Arriving at 11:30 today, I was worried about the post-church folks packing the place, but even though the lobby was full, we were told the wait would only be about 10 minutes. I just recently discovered Elmer's and it seems like I can't get enough of it. The reason why I'm such a huge fan is that I've never had to wait in line for long, even on a Sunday morning, to have breakfast at Elmer's. They will customize your dish as you please without a problem (one less egg for a 'lighter fare', hold the onion, hold the hollandaise, etc. etc.), without spending any extra time on it. So far I've had eggs, french toast, and omelettes, and I've liked everything. I'm particularly fond of their biscuits; they're just great. The service can go from quick and efficient to overly friendly depending on your server, but I've never had a bad experience here. read more

My boyfriend and I came by around 8pm on a weekday. Got seated immediately, as it wasn't too busy that night. There were maybe 4 or 5 other tables filled, mostly with couples. 2 waiters that night working the tables. The lady that helped us was alright... not very friendly and talked fast. She asked us questions that we already answered when ordering. When the food came she never checked on us and never came by to fill our waters. She was obviously helping all the tables around us though. Since she wasn't helping us we asked the other waiter to grab us a few straws. He says ok and walks to the back. He's coming in and out the back but never returns. He even was just standing around not helping people at one point. Sucks bc the food was pretty good. Good breakfast! The food is good, service is fast, the wait staff are professional! Their potato pancakes are exactly as the ones in Hillsboro - must try them. Bacon and potato, somehow sticking together in a perfect little flat cake, geez with applesauce and bacon? Sigh. Hubby got a side of gravy and it was good too; no fake powdery taste. If you take anything home, know that omelets heat up great in the microwave because they are not overcooked to begin with. We love that about Elmer's locally. Eggs are barely done, but done right, and not all browned up like a potato. I hate that. Eggs are delicate and should never be browned like meat. Ewwww. My friend and I had to wait for about 45 minutes, when we were seated, the waitress was nice, polite, but a little slow (took about eight minutes to get drinks). The coffee special was sickeningly sweet, maybe some people like that, but it didn't even taste like it had coffee in it, just syrup. My chicken fried steak was good, the hashbrows were a little burnt, they did cook my eggs perfectly. My friend asked for a medium rare steak, she had to send it back twice because both times it came back looking like shoe leather. Overall, for the price and for my experience, I don't think I'll be coming back if I can help it. I prefer Black Bear Diner if I'm going to do breakfast out. read more

My boyfriend and I came here this morning while the restaurant was very busy. We had a little wait for our table, but not too long! The host staff were super friendly and helpful and got us the best seat in the house! Even during the rush our sever Mimi (mini?) was super sweet. Coffee is much better than I expected. I was standing outside just before opening time of 0600. The nice gentleman with a key let me in a couple minutes early to allow me to sit down with a cup of coffee; a really good cup of coffee. Not the weak wannabe coffee peddled by so many fake food places. This place has a wonderful family feel. It feels like they really care. The waitress was a blessing. Not only they had a young teen answer phones, but he had no knowledge of the menu nor tried to get someone to help him place my to go, since he didn't know what he was doing. I kept explaining what I want to order, even what the ingredients are. Obviously he didn't know the menu or what planet he lives on. He kept asking me how I want my scrambled eggs: easy, medium, etc. Omg! Once I arrived, my food was not done as it was supposed to take 7-10 min. 45 min later I had to walk up to them & ask about my food status. Nobody even bothered to look into it. Everyone was busy seating the walk-ins! And guess what: instead of Farm Scrambled Eggs Crepes, I received 2 fried eggs. I was too hungry to even wait for another round, so I just ate what I got! Just had breakfast at Elmers for the first time, and we were very disappointed. Service was lackluster and incompetent. The waitress wasn't paying any attention to our orders - how hard is it to bring someone a small oj instead of a large, or hash browns instead of fruit when the server repeats what you asked for back to you, and still messes up?? The food itself was mediocre. My husband ordered ham, eggs, and potato pancakes that everyone on this site recommended and they were OK, but Toms Pancake house has better. I ordered the eggs benedict, and that too was OK, but the hollandaise sauce was really underwhelming with little flavor and too much butter. It could have been the dishes we ordered, but the underwhelming quality of the food along with the incompetent service and $9-$13 per breakfast price tag means that we won't be coming back. read more

First omelette I've had in years that I would eat every day. The prices at Elmer's are great and the servers friendly. I got the "Looking for Sun" omelette with breakfast tea and it was fantastic. I was still hungry afterwards (although the portion sizes were fine, I was just exceptionally hungry) and so got a short stack of blueberry pancakes. They were fresh, fluffy, flavorful, and delicious. The berries were definitely not fresh, but the flavor was good nonetheless. Cheap, good consistant breakfast good. Large portions. It is not the most swanky place to go to breakfast, but that isn't what you are expecting either when to drive to an Elmer's anyway. You are expecting Grandma's house, so you are happy with that. The only problem is that Grandma got a little lazy with a couple things and you need to remind her not to slack. Let me explain: I like my scrambled eggs fresh cracked, cooked slowly (so that they are not rubbery), I also assume that most people like their eggs this way this way too. However, here, grandma, pours them from a carton (eeewwww) and cooks them on high (gasp!). Now, now, grandma. Knock that off. The server told us that you can order your scrambled eggs "Country style" where they will "actually crack an egg, and scramble it" for your order. There aren't many "sit down" breakfast options in the suburban wasteland of the Beaverton-Bethany area, so Elmer's has become a go-to choice for our occasional weekday breakfast outings (we head over the river on the weekends). The food is decent, though somewhat inconsistent, with a focus on the things that make America obese...but that's OK, since we know that ahead of time. We have found inconsistent service - sometimes fast and sometimes painfully slow or understaffed - and challenges with sticky tables, but Elmer's is still an acceptable option for breakfast. read more
