Had a nice breakfast here today. We were seated quickly at 8:40am. Plenty of table and booths throughout with space for tables to be put together for large groups. Our waitress was pleasant and quickly brought us coffee. The menu has plenty of all American breakfast foods to choose from, omelets, pancakes, waffles, chicken fried steak, the usual suspects; so plenty of options. I kept it simple with eggs, fruit and a biscuit. I do wish there had been more eggs, the serving looked so little on my plate but I'm sure they used two eggs. I just love eggs so I'd probably order three next time, waistline permitting. Haha My friend enjoyed her savory crepes and the guys had chicken fried steak with hash browns and a ham steak. This place has delicious food and amazing servers. We came in because my husband likes breakfast food (I'm not a big fan), but the food was amazing. It's the first time I ever cleaned my plate at a breakfast place! The waffles were delicious and fluffy, the bacon was the perfect line between crispy and chewy so almost anyone would love it, and the steak with herb butter was drool worthy! Jacky was an amazing server, making sure we had refills of things before we even realized we needed them and checking in on all of her tables. Mode in the kitchen cooked a perfect rare steak for my husband, enough that I stole a few bites because I couldn't help myself! Overall, an amazing visit and we're sure to be back! read more

Elmer's need to regroup. Used to be spotless, used to have hot, well prepared food. The experience was less than satisfactory. My wife had a great french dip. I had eggs (poached), hash browns and dry sourdough. Toast soaked in butter/oil. Eggs were served in a bowl half filled with water. Had to drain the water in a saucer to eat them. I returned the toast, it was returned to me exactly the same way. ??! Glad my bride had a great sandwich. read more

Right off the 99W, Elmers jumped out at us and said: "Try Us Today!". Sunday lunch prime time saw a long line out the door but were seated in a jiffy at what looked like very ordinary indeed. The menu seemed slightly more breakfast than lunch fare, but good spread of items, reminding me of the Issaquah Cafè. The clam chowder was thick as could be, but more creamy than clammy, if thats your thing. I skipped over what looked like nicely battered cod and went for the Hazelnut Crusted Cod, which proved a mistake, as the crust was almost not, and the cod a little long in the tooth (or the freezer). Her bacon cheese burger was packed with hearty bacon, surrounded by superbly cut fries. Service was snappy and friendly. 3.5 overall. Onwards to the coast! read more

Stopped at this Elmer's for a quick lunch right after arriving in Oregon and I noticed Elmer's appears to be very popular in this area. We were seated right away and our drinks stayed full. The menu has a little bit of everything from breakfast to dinner so took a minute to look through the many options. Couldn't decide if I wanted fish & chips or the patty melt, both sounded like excellent diner favorite options. Fortunately my lunch companion liked both those meals as well so we ordered both and split them. The fish was light and crunchy and cooked perfectly. Loved the tarter sauce, actually ended up dipping a fry or two in as well. The patty melt was exactly what a patty melt should be, just greasy enough to be moist and flavorful but not so much that the toasted bread couldn't hold up to it. Both dishes were served with fries which were hot and fresh and delicious. Service was super fast and our food came out freshly cooked. Very reasonable prices, tip top service and delicious food make it clear why Elmer's is a favorite. read more

I don't blame the waiter because he was super busy but Chelsea the manager was super fake and when I told her we ordered 20 minutes ago and still had no food she contradicted me saying the kitchen just got the order. I'm just over this place and won't be coming back. UPDATE- I have talked to the district manager and I feel good about changing my review mostly because of John the waiter's great customer service. This is a place I have gone to since I was a kid. Now I take my kids here. Nothing has changed, you still get the smiles and amazing service coupled with the huge selection of homemade food using local products. I love that and appreciate that. This place is a "where the locals eat." You cannot go wrong with anything on the menu, the only problem you will have is choosing one thing over another! So let me start out by saying how much of a picky eater I am! I never venture out of my comfort zone and it's very hard to please me but wow this place was exceptional!!!!!!! There wasn't a single thing I ate that I didn't like. My mom ordered a German waffle as we heard about them and people raved about them for this place so she tried it.....and to my surprise I tried it too and OH MY GOD WAS IT DELICIOUS these are a must have when you come here! I can't rave about this place enough! Everything was cooked to perfection and I have never had that in a place before. I am now hooked to German pancakes which are soo soft and light and omg!!!! And I'm hooked to emlers! YOU HAVE TO CONE HERE!!!!! Best place we have ever ever eaten at! And the service was great! Very friendly and very little wait time:) I'm forever a customer! And if you come to the one in Tigard Oregon we had the best waiter, Bernabe! Sweetest man ever and soooo incredibly grateful for tip we left! No Maple Syrup? The thing that brought me here was the idea of nice fluffy pancakes and maple syrup drizzled on top. I got the pancakes but what was brought out to be allegedly maple syrup is some in house Elmer's concoction that is nothing more than EXTREMELY SWEET corn syrup with some type of weak maple flavoring. I asked for PURE maple syrup and was told, they only carry this syrup that they buy from their supplier, the same supplier used by all the Elmer's restaurants. Well in my book, you have no business offering yourself up as a place to get pancakes if you can't also offer your customers maple syrup. Just no business. Elmer's long ago gave up being a locally owned family business. I get that it has gone corporate with franchises and it is listed on the NASDAQ if you want to buy a share. This is Portland, home of the internationally famous VooDoo donuts and other culinary delights that attract people literally from all over the world (Who would have thought that sleepy Portland in the 1980's would become a mega-destination?) But there are some things you can't substitute for to maximize corporate profits and pure maple syrup as a condiment with good pancakes is one of those things. (They now offer an apple chicken sausage as an alternative to their pork sausages. You'd think having pure maple syrup would be along the same line of thinking.) Stock your restaurants with maple syrup. It has a very long shelf life. Promote it as a special option when taking orders that include pancakes, waffles or french toast. You can tack on a small extra charge if the cost concerns you, but I hope you won't. Every thing else was ***** 5 star. The food was good, the pancakes excellent, the servers fantastic, nice friendly place and I even had a table near the cozy fireplace. Every Sunday morning, Elmers is a one of a kind restaurant perfect for morning breakfast on the weekend if you don't mind waiting 5 to 10 minutes you don't have to be first in line on Sundays if you prefer not to wait get there around 8:30am. Wonderful staff and management. read more

I have been here twice, and have had the same experience both times, so A for consistency! On the downside, the food is pretty bland and I have had to add a ton of hot sauce to make it palatable. The coffee is moderate, and the service is just okay. I ordered a coffee to drink, but didn't get any water to drink, which I thought unusual in a diner. I asked for hot sauce and was given Tabasco, then had to wait about 5 min before I could get the waiter's attention to ask if they had any other alternative hot sauces. They had Cholula, which is a much better choice for eggs. I wish the waiter had given the option instead of just assuming I wanted Tabasco! After 2 times, I won't be back, considering there are much better options in town. read more

Elmer's is usually a dependable place to grab a quick breakfast or lunch. This is a popular breakfast stop for many locals. Like most chains, it can vary depending on location and choice of menu items. Today, we went there for breakfast and had the fresh strawberry Dutch Baby and the Saturday Market Skillet with Zenner's sausage. The latter was delicious. It came served with a fresh, warm buttery biscuit. The portion was good size, but not too big. Ingredients were fresh and tasty. On the other hand, the Dutch Baby would have been better without the "fresh" strawberries. While they were fresh, they tasted like they'd been prepared hours earlier and left to stew in their own juices in a big bowl. This gave them a kind of "stewed" quality. Too soupy with many of the berries on the questionable side, giving them an almost frozen quality rather than fresh. Next time, I would opt for the Dutch Baby with lemons and powdered sugar and no strawberries. Coffee was good though not exceptional. Service excellent. The place was crowded as usual. I give it three stars because it's a notch above so-so, but certainly not exceptional. read more

One of the better tasting Elmer's that I've been to. Honestly not a high standard though. When I got my steak and egg breakfast here, the first thing that grabbed me was, hey this is hot! So there's that. Not a fave or anything. I'm into real food and eat on the paleo side of things usually. I add in some rice, oats and gluten free bread and baked goods (no sugar). Speaking of, it's 2020.... So if you're going to be a respectable breakfast establishment, you might want to get some gluten free bread. I mean, come on. I can throw something acceptable together here when it's a choice some of my older family members. But there's definitely other places I'd rather choose. read more

This place is like IHOP or Denny's, but a solid step up on the restaurant hierarchy. They have a huge menu of pancakes, waffles, omelets, eggs, and basically every other breakfast permutation. Their hollandaise sauce may not be perfect, but it's actually better than some of the nicer restaurants in Portland can manage. And i gotta say, the Dutch Baby is great with just butter and lemon, no need for all the sugary fruit toppings (heck, i even scrape off the powdered sugar layer). The staff is friendly, and a lot of the customers are regulars. If you come in right after opening, you'll hear a lot of conversations like this: Waitress: G'morning Bob. How ya doing? The usual? Bob: Yep. Doin' good. So no, it's not high-class dining, but it's fast and friendly and good enough for a lazy morning when i don't feel like making my own pancakes. read more

The hollandaise sauce tasted plasticky, the tartar sauce tasted like vinegar and sugar, and the Ivan's clam chowder tasted very very old. Decided to try Elmers for the first time on Friday. I've driven past it numerous times, looked at it on Yelp. Time to bite the bullet. Those maple bacon pancakes look good. So good that they don't have them anymore :( They just switched over to a different set of seasonal items. On a Friday evening at 6p there was no wait. We got a table immediately. The interior might be dated but it is exceptionally clean. I was looking at the light fixtures above the tables. Something easy to not worry about. They were clean. No dust and grime. Definitely looked like someone cared. We had the German Pancake and the stuffed hash browns. I was a little concerned from the other recent reviews I had read about cold food, but the food came out piping hot. I actually got the stuffed hash browns and substituted the fresh fruit for pancakes (yes, I had a side of pancakes) and they did not upcharge me! The food was tasty and fresh. Dessert looked good but, well, as you may recall, I had pancakes. The German Pancake is enormous. Bigger than your face. It looked really tasty. Our waitress was very polite and checked in on us. As did the two floor managers. It was an enjoyable dinner experience and I look forward to trying some other their other dishes. Like the maple bacon pancake. Bring the damn pancake back! read more

Not impressed... This place is always busy so I thought they would have good diner food but nope... We waited 15 minutes to be seated (not to bad for a Sunday). The waitress was hurried the entire time..talking very quickly and very short with us. The coffee was burnt and we had to ask for a fresh batch. It took over 30 minutes to get out food (there was only 2 of us). My salad looked good but was just okay. Nothing to really comment on. They do not offer any flavored iced tea, they do not offer any coffee creamer other then half-half and the table was not stocked with jams or sugars... For just plain o' coffee and salad I could just stay home. I would not eat here a second time. read more

Sunday's breakfast always has a lot of people but we normally get seated quickly. Waitress and staff were very friendly, good way to start out for a nice tip. Steak and eggs for breakfast is always a good way to start out the day. The steak was a little on the small side but I am a big guy but it was very tender. The management truly cares about your experience, as they reached out after my review to inquire about additional details and apologized for the quality issues we encountered. I've rarely experienced such compassion from a restaurant and certainly not a chain (local or otherwise). They say they wish you to have a great experience and are authentic about it. We returned this past weekend and had amazing service (were checked on by the manager on duty 2 times and wait staff were accommodating and friendly). Food was far better, they've made some solid improvements (food was hot, cooked properly, just as we had come to expect over the decades). Elmer's Restaurants are a chain with locations predominately in Oregon, Washington and Idaho. This is a family-friendly facility with large menus for breakfast, lunch and dinner, lots of choices and at moderate prices. This location is clean, cheerful and efficient. Both Hubby and I ordered Breakfast for dinner and the food was hot and arrived at our table quickly. Our server, Sara K. was pleasant and made us feel welcome. Worst customer service ever from a server and a so called manager. Me & my lady weren't in there more then 5 minutes we ordered 2 mimosa's & were denied service due to the fact we came from Arizona so our driver's license don't expire until your 65th birthday. They tried to say we are lying our license are fake and no license has an expiration date that long and they have that in file. All I could do is LMAO & leave. If you live on 99, choose Elmer's, or Davidson's, for your post-drink weekend morning breakfast. I highly recommend staying away from Biscuits...for various reasons. Elmer's has phenomenal customer service. And speedy. You'll never have to ask for water or coffee refills. And, your food is tasty, with good prices, served hot. The omelletes are all good. Mr Elmer's or crabavocado are my faces. Fresh biscuits. Your food comes out hot. Your server is on point. This is why this Elmer's is always packed every time I visit- because its ran like a fine oiled machine. Here's why I recommend staying away from this particular Elmer's restaurant: My last two experiences dining at Elmer's in Tigard have been horrible. After my first bad experience I didn't go back for some time; but when I went back this evening it seems that instead of improving, things had further deteriorated. My first bad experience involved a rude waitress who couldn't be bothered to provide service despite the restaurant being nearly empty. It also involved a disgusting, minuscule and completely flat "German Pancake" that more closely resembled a thin dollar pancake. My second nasty experience far surpassed the first; here are just a few samples of tonight's dining disaster: 1. I was seated at a dirty table surrounded by other empty, dirty tables. The tables had been cleared but either never wiped down or done so by a gross incompetent. No one apologized and offered to wipe down my table despite it being obviously sticky all over; I had to insist on it. 2. I was never provided with silverware; I had to retrieve them from a nearby table. 3. It took nearly 15 minutes to be served my ice tea after giving the waiter my food and beverage order despite only 3 other tables being occupied in the whole restaurant at that time. 4. The waiter never wrote down how I wanted my prime rib and had to come back and ask me again several minutes after taking my order, he also couldn't seem to remember that I asked for extra sour cream for my baked potato. 5. My prime rib meal came complete with two human hairs. Further, half of my prime rib was overlooked and dry and the other half much too rare. 6. It was a struggle to get the obviously inexperienced waiter to refill my ice tea twice and the second time I asked for a refill the waiter retorted, "Really?!" 7. I tend to eat my meals slowly which seemed to disturb the waiter. Even though I had difficulty getting him to refill my empty ice tea glass he kept coming back to my table and asking me if I was done and asking if he could bring me a carry-out box. Ironically, even though a few more tables filled up while I was there, the restaurant was far from busy. 8. The men's restroom was cramped and rank with the stench of mildew. All in all I have to say that this particular Elmer's has managed to not only ensure poor quality meals, but atrocious service. I recommend people avoid it like the plague. read more
