This contradicts my understanding of what a diagnostic service entails and feels like a poor excuse for their failure to identify the underlying problem. Instead of addressing my concerns, the manager deflected by referencing earlier diagnostics from this year and scenarios about going to the doctor which had no relevance to the current issue. I left my previous review on 6/11 after not hearing back from Elmhurst BMW after e-mailing them 6/8. I finally got a response on 6/12. I responded immediately and then didn't get a response again. I followed up with the managers on 6/17 and finally got a response. While talking with one of the GMs I was told he incorrectly quoted the extended warranty and it was actually $1500 MORE expensive than he had told me. And there was nothing he could do to fix that. It was a trade and cash payment of the balance, which is where it became frustrating...took 90 minutes for the paperwork to be drawn up and they claimed it took time to figure out IN tax (we share borders, I'm sure I'm not the only IN client!). They still haven't sent us the extra key and now 3 weeks later I'm being told by my local BMW that the car we just purchased needs all new brakes and left bushings ($3000!). I rarely give negative reviews but this one is worth mentioning...while at the BMW dealer at Elmhurst...walked the around the lot and no one around so decided to go inside and inquire about a particular car on the lot as there are no prices on the cars the front desk young man said he would Paige someone to help us...out came a young man named Brian who seemed nice enough and versed us on the BMW models..I sensed he was a bit arrogant because we are not very cognizant of the BMW lineup nor it's mechanical nuances and capabilities so we were here to learn about the options of BMW models...during our conversation we decided we want an M class BMW model which he mentioned they just received a new one that fit our preferences so we requested to see it I liked it and asked to drive it...I loved it...we then proceeded to try and make an arrangement to bring in a trade in for evaluation and to make a deal ...Brian refused to set up an appointment because he said the car just arrived and would require the 100 point BMW certified mechanical overhaul and would be taken off site to get this done it was Friday but he would call us Monday to set it up once he was informed of when the car would be ready to sell...since we did not get a return call on Monday as agreed, we stopped in to get an update on Tuesday...we saw the car driving away as we pulled in once inside we were made to wait about 30 minutes for Brian to come out and speak to us ...at which time he seemed not to know much about the car and we told him looks like it just left the lot? He replied "yes probably!" We asked why did you not call us yesterday as agreed to tell us the car was still here you said it would be back by Monday now it's Tuesday and it's just now leaving for the service you stated would be done by today? ... We felt a bit put off by that ...then as we were speaking he was called somewhere and we were left waiting again for about 20 more minutes spent nearly an hour in there to get no definitive answer other than he would call us when the car was ready...once again we followed up on Thursday to ask about the car no response no return call ...called again on Friday to try to make arrangements finally he came to the phone and told us the car was sold!! I stopped in for an oil change prompted by the notification in the car. The scheduler said it would take an hour, when I arrived, I was told 90 min. Having driven there already I stayed even thought it threw off my plan. While there, I was told I was also due for a new microfilter. Said ok. Then was asked to sign the signature line on the tablet to authorize repairs. I asked to review the fine print/details only to learn it wasn't available for viewing without being printed. So I insisted on seeing the printed version which showed an $80 charge with no description. At checkout, the total was $400+. $99 for an oil change and $189 plus labor and tax for the microfilter. I insisted on referring back to the estimate if no additional work was performed which led to a price adjustment. Was also told the $80 amount was an error of some sort. Odd. Frustrating and unpredictable. Moral to the story -- read before you sign a/k/a trust but verify. read more

We bought a 2022 BMW X7 M50i from this dealer and, on the day of delivery, my wife opted to purchase the paint protection package for ~$600, which we paid with our personal American Express card. We were then told that someone would reach out to us to set up the service. Around January I finally called and, after a few issues set up to have the service completed. I went in to have the protection done, getting in at 8am, and I was told it would take 2-3 hours. After first choosing to leave, I then decided to stick around and wait. Several hours passed by, and, around 1 o'clock in the afternoon, my service advisor came up to me asking why I didn't leave. I simply told him that I decided to stick around, since it was only supposed to take 2 to 3 hours, and I asked him if the car was ready. He then told me that they didn't even get started on the car, because they listed me as I drop off, thereby putting me in the back of the line. I immediately told them to give me my money back, although he refused, forcing me to talk to the service manager who made up more excuses, finally telling me they would refund the money. They pulled my car up, still dirty, meaning they hadn't even begun to prepare it because the most basic thing you must do before doing the paint protection is wash the car. I'm not sure they had any intention of ever doing it. I reached out to Irv, the GM, who is a worthless moron and a typical car dealership, totally scummy, guy, who claimed they would process the refund on my credit card. However, two weeks later I received a check. Between talking to Irv, and receiving the check, which I deposited, I left a email, very detailed, describing my experience to the owner. Today I got an alert from my bank. Elmhurst BMW head stop payment on the check for my refund. When I called to speak with Irv, he said, "nothing we can do is good enough for you", alleging that this is my fault. He then went on to tell me that they did in fact issued a refund on my credit card, which I still have not verified, and again told me it was my fault. Let's review, we paid for service; they failed to reach out to us to secure an appointment; we then secured an appointment; they failed to provide the service; we requested a refund, they sent us a check, they stop payment on a check; and everything is my fault. The whole process from booking to checking out is executed seamlessly. I've normally chosen to stay there while the work is being done, and each time they have finished early. I haven't ever had something I didn't need be marketed to me. This dealership is a bit further away for me, but the extra drive time is worth it, because they treat their customers with respect and kindness. I haven't purchased from this dealership, but would definitely start with them for the next car based on how much I have enjoyed visiting their service department. Great place to buy a car- all of the staff and salesmen are super friendly! Diven took care of us and he provided exceptional customer service. He is attentive, friendly, and communicates very well. My dad and I initially saw the car that I ended up buying online- it was a Honda that they got as a trade-in. We called to have Diven send pictures and he sent them that night and we followed up with him the next day. One thing I took notice of is the fact that although the Honda I bought is much less in price compared to the BMWs that they have on their lot, we were treated just as important as anyone spending much more $$$. I purchased a 2012 X5M with 45,000 miles on it from Elmhurst in June of 2018 with the most comprehensive aftermarket warranty they offered. When I got the car home to Denver, Colorado, I noticed that the "side view camera malfunction" warning came on whenever I tried to activate them. I immediately called Mike to let him know, and he said to wait a month and file a warranty claim. I waited a month, and took my car to a BMW independent shop. They noted that the oil pan gasket was leaking, a PCV hose was leaking, and the side view camera wiring was damaged and had caused corrosion at the camera itself. All told, over $3000 of work. I had them submit the claim to Continental Warranty, and all was denied except for the oil pan gasket (but they refused to cover the one-time-use fasteners, or the alignment that needed to be done in conjunction with the repair). I know these warranties have a reputation for nitpicking claims, and I was just happy they were paying for some of it. Upon removal of the oil pan, the tech found that the engine block was cracked and needed to be replaced. They immediately called Continental Warranty, and the claim was 100% denied. I called Elmhurst to tell them what was going on, and Tim Baber said he would call Continental and see what he could do. Tim called me back after the weekend, and said that Continental refused to budge. I asked for a refund on the warranty, and they agreed to refund me in full. This was the last helpful thing Elmhurst BMW did for me. The full price of the engine replacement in my car was $26,000. My car cost $36,000. Elmhurst didn't offer me any assistance in contacting BMW of North America, nor with the cost of the repairs. I asked them what they suggested I do, and Tim Baber told me to "JB Weld the cracks and sell the car." I pointed out how incredibly unethical that suggestion was. He said, "so trade it in at a place like CarMax." Oh, okay...I'll just pawn it off on someone else, and lose a ton of money in the process. He said, "well, you'd probably lose less trading it in than the engine would cost." I messaged my friend who works for BMW North America to see if he could help, and he went to work advocating for me. After a few weeks of back and forth, he advised me to tow my car to BMW of Denver Downtown. In the end, he got BMW to cover 75% of the repair cost. That left me with a $1,400 diagnostic fee to my independent shop and $6,500 for the balance of the repair. In the midst of this, I emailed Tim Baber, and Irv Shenderovsky to let them know how disappointed I was. They seemed perfectly content to sell me a car that needed a $26,000 engine and wash their hands of the situation. If I hadn't had friends at BMW, I would have been on the hook for the full cost of the repair, and they would not have lifted a finger to help me. Irv assured me that they would see what they could do to help, but strung me along for over a month. BMW dealerships are independently owned, and I wanted Elmhurst to take some responsibility. I asked Korey, the service manager, if they would have sold this car knowing the extent of the damage to the engine, and he said no, they would not have sold the car. But they did. They sold it to me. And they weren't sorry. I finally got Irv on the phone, and expressed how incredibly upset and disappointed I have been with his handling of the situation. He acted defensive, and insisted over and over again that there was no way they could have known about the damage, totally missing the fact that it doesn't matter whether or not they knew. What matters is how they handled the issue. If they had stepped up to contact BMW on my behalf to address the issue from the beginning, if they had offered to pay for, or even split my out of pocket costs with me just to make it right, I would be raving about their customer service. I wouldn't have hesitated to travel again for another car purchase. Elmhurst BMW profits from selling me a car and Elmhurst BMW profits from selling me a $4,500 extended warranty for the car that is now invalid even-though it is not expired. Although there is still more than a year, and over 15,000 miles left on the warranty contract, the warranty the Elmhurst BMW sold me is now INVALID because I exceeded a certain dollar amount on the warranty. Elmhurst BMW wins, customer loses. p.s. This is getting reviewed by the Illinois attorney general office as they disapprove of deceptive practices like the ones committed by Elmhurst BMW. p.p.s There were a handful of repairs that were not covered by the warranty even though the sales person told me that they would be covered. I decided to wait a few weeks after my purchase and once the dust fully settled to write my review. I was very pleased with my experience from start to finish, but along the way there were a few hiccups. SALES: Joe Svoboda is a WONDERFUL salesman. Before I decided to purchase my vehicle I had my parents go check it out and then I followed up, as I was traveling for business. That being said from the moment Joe met our family he was kind and welcoming and provided excellent customer service!! He handled everything from showing the car, to giving me important car facts, and getting me set up with the financial department. These things might be givens, but I can't say how much I appreciate Joe for helping me during this car buying experience (over the course of 1 month). Even as some issues developed after the sale of the car, Joe stuck by me to ensure everything was handled. If we ever buy a car again, we are going to Joe! GENIUS: Sam was my genius and he was also fantastic!! This is my first BMW so needless to say I didn't understand how anything worked. Sam met with me one on one to show me the many features and allowed me to ask him follow up questions even after I left with my vehicle. FINANCE: Coop was my finance guy and he was really the best. Luckily although he talks fast, I listen fast because he was sharing a lot of information. He covered all the financing facts with me and gave me information about the maintenance plan and the services. Again, this is my first BMW so a lot of things I didn't know, but he made sure to explain all plans and share which things were most applicable to my vehicle. I came back a few days later with a service issue, and Coop came over and really handled the situation and corrected the service rep with the details of my plan!! It seems there was a misunderstand of what was covering with my vehicle and Coop ensured the correct information was in my file and assured me I was set to go for the future. SERVICE: Now the reason for the missing star falls on the vehicle itself. I bought a certified pre- owned 2017 X1. That being said I was disappointed that within the first week my front rotors and brakes needed to be replaced. Regardless of the reasoning (I was told it was because the car sat for a few months) I expected that would've been handled before I received my vehicle. Although they took care of this free of charge, I believe that should've been handled prior to the sale of the vehicle. It made me question the certification process as a whole. Further, although I appreciate the service department covering the cost of the repairs I wasn't as pleased that my service rep kept giving me incorrect information. We were able to settle the misunderstandings before I left, but at first he was telling me things that weren't covered that were covered by the plans I purchased with financing and really made me feel like he was in a rush. But again, Coop and Joe swooped in to the save the day!! And although I forgot the service managers name (Korey?) I appreciate him allowing me to bring the car in same day and get things fixed right away and getting me set up with a loaner vehicle. Overall I'm very pleased with my new vehicle and my experience at Elmhurst BMW!! Was quite interested in purchasing a used vehicle, price advertised at $34,900. But then they add a bullshit $1799 dealer accessory fee (LoJack, windshield protection and tire nitrogen). They tell me it's mandatory and all dealers do the same. I guess they thought I was dumb. Make sure you read the fine print on their ads. read more

Just bought a used VW from here and I had such a good experience! Michal was very helpful and always responded to my emails. He let me know what I needed to bring in and made the entire process very smooth. This was my first time buying a car by the way! Zain in finance was also wonderful. Staff went the extra mile to great you, inquire if you needed assistance or just that friendly smile as you walked by. POLAR OPPOSITE AT ELMHURST BMW!! Its as if everyone was just there, stressed and unhappy with their jobs. Zero excitement to sell a car. The salesmen (GLEN) did the bare minimum in showing the car we were interested in. I accidentally left my BMW key fob in my pocket when I did the laundry and ruined it. Although I could still unlock the doors manually and start the car by inserting the fob into the steering column, I decided to replace it. I went to Elmhurst BMW and bought a new fob but the Comfort Access did not work. That is where you can unlock the door by touching the handle and start the car without inserting the fob in the steering column. I called the dealer and they told me It had to be programmed for that function to work and I would have to make an appointment and pay $90. No one told me that when I bought the fob for $327. I told the service rep that it would be only fair to program it for free since in its current state it was not much better than the broken fob I already had. He disagreed and blamed me for not asking them if the fob would work without additional service; silly me. When buying a product it never would have occurred to me to ask the checkout person if that product would actually function properly. I didn't know I had to do that. Its not so much the $90 that bothers me, its more the feeling that I have been cheated and made a fool of. The information should have been provided at the time of purchase, and since it was not they should have offered to program it free of charge. read more

I shopped online for an I3. A different process for me. But after doing a lot of research on this all electric vehicle and finding the vehicle with the options I was interested in I found one at Elmhurst BMW. I live in WI but spent over 25 years in River Forest IL and was very familiar with the Elmhurst area. Many Fenwick connections. So based on info I was sent about financing and Sirius radio 1 year included and a fair but not great price point a according to Car Gurus I headed to Elmhurst. After settling on price, minimal change from internet price, guess what? They changed the financing claiming that my vehicle was not eligible. I had been pre-approved for credit with a credit score of 850. When I offered to leave and get my own financing, amazingly they came down over 2 points on the loan. Not what was promised but close enough. So we bought the car. We received the car with a minimal battery charge and 1.9 gallons of gas. ( don't worry about that, that's a full tank) , a key fob which did not work and after 3 hours at the dealer I had to wait another 2 hours to charge the car. The Sirius did not work and a piece of equipment, a cargo cover was missing from the car. This electric vehicle has many features that should have been explained. The car comes with a checklist. The technician showed me how to start the car and within five minutes was gone. No checklist. After getting home and discovering these issues I sent an email to the sales person. He sends a replacement fob battery. Hope it works or I'll have to return to the dealer. No answers to my other questions. A sales manager Nicholas reaches out and wants to hear how great my experience was. Sorry to disappoint but I expressed my issues. Somewhat defensive but he tells me no Sirius as promised. Not a year. 3 months only. He verified I was missing a part from my car. I asked to have it sent to Wisconsin. Agreed. But despite emails and in person assertions and documents sent to me with specific promises they will not keep their word. I know it's a small cost to me but I feel "slimed" after dealing with Elmhurst BMW. They know I won't be back for service so I guess it's a low risk. But I will be sharing my story with numerous River Forest, Elmhurst and Oak Park friends and acquaintances. Many own BMW's You'll see that the dealer reached out to me after my YELP post. Want to turn around my experience. Don't be fooled. He responds to all negative Yelp posts in a very similar manner I called and left two messages. Never received a call back. The manager was copied on all my emails trying to get dealer to honor "their word". He didn't intervene when he had the chance. His reach out is just as honest as the rest of the Elmhurst staff. Not.
