Located in a strip plaza off Millersport Highway, Elmo's has been a reliable spot for lunch or dinner for at least 40 years that I can remember. They are as good today as they were in the 1980's, they remained open during Covid, and the quality has remained solid. Whereas chicken wings at most other establishments have been getting smaller in recent years, Elmo's continues to serve large, plump wings cooked exactly as you like them. In my case, I like them extra crispy with medium sauce. Their chili as they prepare and serve it is mild, but they will bring hot sauce to your table so you can make it as aggressive as you'd like. Their burgers are a decent size, they cook it exactly as you order it, and they are generous with the lettuce tomatoes and onions. For a dollar upgrade you can get onion rings instead of fries on the side and the onion rings are quite good. They don't have a huge selection of beers, but the beer they do carry is served, icy cold, in appropriate glasses, and their inventory turns over quickly, so you know you're getting fresh product. The bartenders mix a decent drink, not overflowing with ice. The restrooms are more than adequate. They have a dartboard for the patrons to use and very attentive waitresses and bus staff. This may have made it to the top of my wing list. I go to this plaza a lot but never tried out this place. My friend was the one who brought me there. It is a nice small place with a bar. We ordered 60 wings for 6 people. We ordered medium, hot, bbq, bbq honey mustard, honey mustard, and Cajun. The wings were so good because they were grilled. The bbq and the bbq honey mustard had to be my favorite ones. I'm not a fan of mustard in general which is why I didn't try the honey mustard alone. The bbq honey mustard did not taste like mustard at all which was just okay with me. They put the perfect amount of sauce on each set of wings which is how I prefer it. The next favorite is the Cajun. I will come back to this place again for wings! I would truly recommend this place! read more

This is in a very unassuming location, but packs a punch. Came here for the first time with a few friends who had been here before. It's a fairly small place in a plaza, has a large bar, and is a little dark inside. It wasn't very busy at first for a Wednesday, but seemed filled when we left. Our server was friendly and attentive. We all ordered a single order of wings each, one Cajun, one medium, one honey mustard, and one double dip Cajun/honey mustard. Just a typical WNY joint but with that incredible feel or as they say ambiance which is "rustic ". The service was excellent as were the wings. When people talk about the best wings in Buffalo, Elmos is often at the top of the list. I've been meaning to come here for a while now. I did not expect it to be in a strip mall but honestly once you get inside it feels like a dive bar that has had the same carpets since it opened in 1985. I'm not even saying this as a bad thing. I love divey places. It was oddly dark inside and you'll see this by the picture I took of our wings. When we walked in the waitress said we could sit anywhere. Once we picked a seat she quickly grabbed our drink order and brought some menus. My husband and I split a single order of wings and a basket of fries. The fries were a little undercooked but that doesn't really deter me. I got a side of ranch for the fries (not the wings don't you fret) and it was honestly one of the best ranches I've ever had. The wings came out hot and saucy (hot temp and spicy wise). They were pretty good overall and I can see why everyone loves them. Although I am not a wing person, I enjoyed grilled cajun wings here and highly recommend it. We were a group of 8 on Saturday night. Didn't wait more than 20-25 min at bar to have a table. I think there were understaffed. Every 10 wings would have a same sauce and I personally liked hot cajun got better than Cajun/honey mustard . This place is unique! Here's my rating for the wings: Flavor is good. Quality of the cook is well Wings were petite and subpar Onion rings were really good! Slightly overpriced but I enjoyed them! As a buffalonian I wouldn't say that I'd frequent this place for wings, however I would definitely recommend it to someone from out of town or someone who doesn't have super high expectations. It's like they were cooked twice. Perhaps they anticipated being busy and pre-cooked the wings making it easy to prep the orders. The only girl working keep on the move and the food and drinks were out in no time. We enjoyed the wings and they are about as good as wings get. The prices were reasonable and market priced. That's the good now the bad. The bathroom is filthy, Come on owners you have to be making some money here it isn't a big request to clean up your facilities. Ate here with my daughter on a Saturday evening after a recent college visit. There was a wait of about 30 minutes as the place isn't very big, but with a screen at every angle watching hockey made the time go by quickly. In the end, it was so worth it. We ordered 2 types of wings, traditional Buffalo Hot and Cajun Dry Rubbed. The Buffalo Hot wings were phenomenal! Crunchy and perfectly sauced. The Cajun ones weren't very spicy and definitely needed some type of sauce, but that's why you try things, right? I had Roast Beef on Weck (When in Rome...) which was absolutely amazing... a huge amount of meat without a trace of fat or grizzle, on a well-seasoned roll, with horseradish on the side. Perfect! My daughter enjoyed her Western Burger, which got the best of her as it was simply too much with the wings, well-done fries as requested, and excellent onion rings on the side. The service was outstanding and friendly. I highly recommend Elmo's and look forward to returning the next time I am in Buffalo. read more

Not sure what has happened. I've been a customer for twenty plus years and for multiple reasons not been in three. Previous years we had literally had parties where we ordered hundreds of wings in advance at a time. We did take out and the wings were almost inedible. The blue cheese is Kens small packets now (yuck). One was Cajun, no flavor another was medium wings which were dry with no flavor. We ordered fries and the were the same type of frozen crinkle cut fries you would find in a supermarket frozen section. The portions were large, just a waste of money and calories. This was our favorite..... no more. Yes, we did try to reach out with no response. It's a shame. COVID is taking out restaurants and the last thing a place should do is lower their quality in the process. I hope they turn things around. read more

To have the best wings, you need three things: 1) Outstanding sauce - whether is a dry rub of some kind, or a buffalo sauce, it's gotta be good. I can tell if you're just doing a cheap generic hot sauce-mixed-with-butter hack job. 2) Crispy skin - something that makes the wing soggy on the outside gets a thumbs down 3) Tender meat - if it's dry and needs lots of sauce to help, I'm not impressed I first came here during my college days and remembered it having good wings. I came again recently during a trip to western New York. First, it's still dark and dank inside. It was really cold and had that dungeon sort of feel to it. I was here for lunch, so the only light that was available was from the bar area and the limited sunlight from a typical overcast day in Buffalo... I went for the honey mustard wings, cajun, and medium wings. All three had excellent sauces. The honey mustard wasn't too sweet and had a nice tang to it. The cajun was a dry rub and was flavorful. The medium wings were saucy but not too saucy. All three also had very good crispy skin to them. The honey mustard probably is the best out of all three. The wing/beer deal is pretty nice. The only drawback to all three wings was that they were somewhat dry inside, perhaps less so with the honey mustard. You need to help them out with some blue cheese. That's the only reason (a big one albeit) Elmo's doesn't get 5-stars. The onion rings were excellent. None of them were clumped together, which I appreciate. The rings were golden brown on the outside, while being soft on the inside. Service was decent as the server was friendly and fairly attentive. Once Elmo's manages to get the wings tender, they can take on the big boys. read more

Ok, I love chicken wings. I have had them all over the country. Let me take you back to my first visit to Elmo's. but first, I have been to Anchor Bar (tourist trap) but a true wing aficionado has to say that theybvisited the birthplace of the buffalo wing at least once! I have also had Duff's very good. But back to Elmo's. My first visit was in 2003. I went with a coworker who swore by the place. Location is horrible. Strip mall - dated next to some taco place that doesn't look too appealing. We go in, it's dark but doesn't look too clean. The place wreaks of cigarette smoke. (Back when smoking inside was still legal) We sat at the bar because my coworker had become friends with Adam one of the bartenders. My buddy orders first, a double and a pitcher. He orders 1/2 Buffalo style and 1/2 Cajun. I look at him incredulously. He has just committed the greatest sin... Ordering Cajun wings?! In Buffalo?! I ordered a double, hot. We also ordered fries to share. Beers is cold, I can see Adam through the thick smoke. They don't have any dark beers but that's okay. The wings and fries arrive and we start to chow down. My buddy keeps offering me a Cajun, I decline. Hot wings are awesome. Fries are excellent. Celery is limp and not fresh but I'm not here for the celery! Every tv in the joint has the Sabres game on. I am not a hockey fan and ask Adam if he can change one of the tv's to the Boston Celtics game. He looks at me like I am crazy. Evidently, the owner requires all of her tv's to be tuned to the Sabres game when they are playing. Back to wings... I am again offered a Cajun wing and to shut the guy up, I finally accept. Okay, I have since been to Elmo's 20 or so times in the ensuing 8 years. I have yet to order anything but the Cajuns. They are hands down, the BEST wings I have ever eaten. Not to knock the hots, but let me repeat, the Cajuns are the best. It would be nice to see the owner update or even move the place but maybe that's part of the Personality of the place. Although, the bathroom could very well be the nastiest bathroom I have been in. I moved south 2 years ago and haven't been back up Buffalo way since. sure do miss Elmo's. Very disappointed in our recent takeout order from Elmo's. The majority of our wings were covered in feathers. When I called the restaurant to talk to them about it I was told that's how the come from the distributor. We went to Elmos this afternoon for the first time after hearing about it time and time again. This is a place that often lands itself on the "top wings in Buffalo lists". For someone like myself who is on a personal spiritual journey to try every wing in Buffalo, a visit here was long overdue. The wife and I ended up splitting some wings (hot) and a basket of fries. The fries came out first and were a bit underwhelming. They were a thicker cut and didn't seem to be cooked well. The fries were largely mushy and the center of the fries were very raw potato tasting. The wings themselves came out while we were nearing the end of the basket of fries and they were still steaming hot. The wings were cooked well, crisp and tender. The sauce (although ordered hot) was not very hot and a little more buttery than I would of liked. They also had a kind of charred/smokey flavor that both of us picked up on although we couldn't make sense of why or what caused it. The strength of this wing was definitely in how well it was cooked. Overall the wings were just OK. I would certainly go back again, but I'd probably just get another sauce next time. There were also a couple of other things worth note from our visit. This was by far the darkest bar I've ever been to at 4pm. It felt like midnight inside. It took several minutes for my eyes to adjust to the darkness (and again to the light when we left). In food related notes, the bleu cheese was standard and tasted like it was out of a bottle. Upon entering the place, the bar is dead centre, with two rooms on each side with windows. There was hardly anyone in the place except for a few guests taking a break from wedding activities. The place looks pretty old inside with torn seat cushions, the whole place dark inside, but doesn't feel dirty, until you use the bathrooms--they need work. Now onto the good stuff. The waitress was super friendly and set us up with drinks and menus. We ordered a double order of wings, 1/2 Medium, 1/2 BBQ. We had to wait 25 minutes for the wings but they were well worth the wait. Piping hot, just enough sauce, and nice and crispy. It's nice getting wings done right and not having to put in the standard request of "extra crispy". The BBQ wings were grilled. Both tasted amazing, these guys really know what they are doing. Nice tasting blue cheese too. $19.50 for the double wings isn't too bad as well. Can't wait to go back to try the Hot and Cajun! read more

I came here upon recommendation by a friend who is also a wing enthusiast. Him and I enjoy the holy grail that is WingNutz, as well as 911 Tavern and Barbill. And so I trusted his opinion to come to Elmo's. The yelp pictures looked appetizing. Upon being served these wings pictured below, I was severely disappointed. The cook quality and flavor was nice, but the portion sizes were terrible and I felt very ripped off.
